No, as bad as Netscape is, Mozilla is not comparable to Netscape. Mozilla is good, yes, but sometime Netscape 4 is also needed. probably, due to the fact that the way to do the configuration is the same. I mean the lines to add in the XF86Config and the imwheel stuff. Hi, I have to say it took me a while to have the wheel mouse back working when I switched to XF4. What I think happened is that I had the correct options in the XF86Config file, but not in the right order. For X4 with an Intellimouse, I have: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol""IMPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Buttons""5" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection =-= kk1 >From: Mike & Tracy Holt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [Cooker] Wheel mouse support in 7.1/Cooker >Date: Wed, 21 Jun 2000 16:27:57 -0700 > >Hmmm... Re: [Cooker] Wheel mouse support in 7.1/Cooker
Hmmm... I'm not sure what to tell you. I've been using logitech trackman marble w/ wheel on both my machines here at home without problem. I do include the imwheelrc file in the $user directory because that's the way it was originally intended to be used. I don't know if that's changed, but why not try it? I also believe that all the logitech wheel mice use the same protocol at this point, so yours should work. I'm currently using XFree 4.0, but I've also used 3.3.6 - I'm using MDK 7.1 final, but it also worked for RedHat and MDK 7.0. At first I was thinking that maybe it was gnome that was giving you the problem, but I know that it definitly works with kde (which you've said doesn't work at all for you). I would try adding the imwheelrc file and see what happens. I hope that something has helped here; but since this isn't the support list, I'll just say "good luck". RE: [Cooker] Wheel mouse support in 7.1/Cooker
? have a microsoft trackball and it works fine with the following settings in XF86Config: Protocol "IMPS/2" Option "Buttons" "3" Option "ZaxisMapping" "4 5" Comment out "emulate3buttons" and "emulate3timeout" The device is "psaux" or something like that. Then, I put "imwheel -p" in the autostart folder of KDE. Works fine with all applications. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Roberto Rosselli Del Turco Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2000 10:35 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Cooker] Wheel mouse support in 7.1/Cooker Mike & Tracy Holt wrote: > > I'm using the logitech trackball with the thumb marble and scroll wheel, > it works just fine. I'm using the logitech trackball with the thumb marble and scroll wheel, it works just fine. You have to edit your XF86Config file (3.3.6 or 4.0 - both work just fine) adding the lines to the 'Pointer' section: Buttons 3 ZAxisMapping4 5 and make sure to comment out the lines that say: emulate3buttons emulate3timeout or anything to that effect. Make sure that 'protocol' is MouseManPlusPS/2 and 'device' is /dev/mouse (make sure to follow the syntax of whichever file you happen to be editing). Finally, include a copy of imwheelrc in the $user directory of anyone who cares to use it, and perform chmod a+x /usr/X11R6/bin/imwheel Everything should work just fine after that. So, waiting for a better understanding of how it works, I'd like to disable it: can I safely uninstall it or is it better to comment it out (what's the script in question?)? I must say I am mildly disappointed with this release, mainly because of details like this; even Netscape is behaving funny, when I launch it the window is blank and useless for about 5 minutes, then it comes to life: never seen this before, abrupt termination was the norm :) Mind you: it still is one of the best, if not the best, Linux distribution IMHO. COOL! And also modified "protocol "PS/2" " to "IMPS/2" My mouse: Ms-Intellimouse Explorer . Regarding non-root: - Anyway, I always have a running super-user Konsole window... Thus, I am not yet that lazy to complain that I have to type "imwheel" from that terminal... Oh yes! I forgot: I have to press "ENTER" to execute it... Sorry I felt for making a joke :-) ciao, Serge Lussier

Okay, well, moved imwheel instead of imwheelrc, restarted X, and now scroll wheel will scroll up, but not down ... do I need to edit the Netscape entries in .Xdefaults? >From: Daniel Hammer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], "bobby dowling" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, > [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [Cooker] Wheel Mouse! >Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 10:56:46 +0200 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from [216.71.84.35] by hotmail.com (3.2) with ESMTP id >MHotMailBB0F723100BFD82197A2D847542340A90; Tue Jun 13 05:21:06 2000 >Received: (from sympa@localhost)by mandrakesoft.mandrakesoft.com >(8.8.5/8.8.5) id HAA05679for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Tue, 13 Jun 2000 >07:21:01 -0500 >Received: from proxy.mediamarketing.de ([62.159.68.10]) by >mandrakesoft.mandrakesoft.com (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id EAA18611 for ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Tue, 13 Jun 2000 04:22:40 -0500 >Received: from danix.mediamarketing.de (gate.mediamarketing.de >[62.159.68.11]) by proxy.mediamarketing.de (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id >LAA27469; Tue, 13 Jun 2000 11:36:49 +0200 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jun 13 05:27:31 2000 >Organization: Thoiroh Live & Fun >X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.0.28] >References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >X-Loop: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >X-Sequence: 909 >Precedence: list > >BS''D > > > So far I have: > > 1) Edited /etc/X11/XF86Config with > > Buttons 3 > > ZAxisMapping 4 5 > > # emulate 3 buttons > > # emulate 3 timeout > > 2) Added immwheelrc to $user dir (though I heard this had no effect) > > 3) Rebooted > > What else might I try? > >just add the following lines to your local .Xdefaults than you will be able >to use your wheel properly. Re: [Cooker] Wheel Mouse!
Thanks! You know, "Linux people" always like to say to not reboot because it's Linux and not Windows, but when "new"guys (and in Linux I always feel new because there is a lot to it) like myself are not sure what process needs to be stopped and restarted, rebooting sometimes really does the trick. In Mandrake 7.0, after following these noted steps, the wheel mouse did not function until reboot. >From: Daniel Hammer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], "bobby dowling" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [Cooker] Wheel Mouse!
Before I updated to 7.1, I followed the directions for setting up a wheeled mouse (Logitech firstmouse+) at http://www.inria.fr/koala/colas/mouse-wheel-scroll/. Now, after the upgrade, it doesn't work, and I don't know why either. Anyone know what's up? -- Stephen On Mon, 12 Jun 2000, you wrote: > For all of the times this question has been asked and for all of the people > who have responded before: sorry!! > > Ok, how do you get the stinkin' wheel to work in Netscape.
