Hey Tony,

Still exploring as per the industry metrics but major focus is over ease of
efforts from customer's point of view. Our customers often like processes
which are simpler and effort less from their perspective. We can connect
personally to have an in depth conversations occasionally also to make
things better for each other.

Welcome Gaurav!

I'm curious: what kinds of metrics do you look at when you're working on
improving your processes?

I'm working on an effort to help coworking spaces shift their mindset away
from "butts in seats" and towards more valuable success metrics, so any
guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

[Coworking] Introducing myself-

2013-01-04 Thread Alex Lassar
Greetings all!

Joining this group in a somewhat interesting role. I work for a major CRE
services company (Jones Lang LaSalle) and work with a lot of
small/growing/startup/tech companies. Myself and others in the company in
the 'major' tech markets have been studying coworking models for several
years and have been recommending them to clients regularly. We like the
model so much we said- what if there were an easier way to get MORE
coworking spaces into the marketplace? I am leading an experimental
project that aims to be an online 'kickstarter' for shared/coworking
workspaces. Essentially, we are creating a marketplace to bridge the
'traditional' office space market with the coworking/shared space
marketplace by providing a platform for normal commercial space listings
(read: stuff you find on a commercial space MLS that you have to lease the
whole thing for a long time) to be re-packaged, showcased, priced, split,
transacted and then subsequently run/managed as shared spaces/coworking
spaces WITHOUT a master lease/sponsor. You can
visit http://signup.hirises.co or follow @hiriseRE to find out when we'll
be launching in your market. We're currently testing our marketplace in
DC/Mid-Atlantic.

[Coworking] Introducing myself!

Introducing yourself is always awkward, especially online, but I feel like
an introduction might be in order...

I'm Ashley Aspiranti, a redheaded coworker based out of Chicago, Illinois.
I work out of The Coop (www.coworkchicago.com) with the Desktime team (
www.desktimeapp.com)
and also recently joined the super amazing folks over at the Coworking Wiki
(http://www.opencoworking.org/coworkingwiki/project)!!!

Quietly, I've been keeping up with this group for a while but now I'd like
to start actively participating and contributing in your discussions.
I look forward to chatting with all of you and getting to know more about
each of your spaces, and coworking experiences.

Happy Coworking!

[Coworking] Introducing myself to group

2011-05-17 Thread Steve
Hi Everyone,

I'm Steve and I'm interested in starting a coworking space. I've been
following the coworking movement from the sidelines for some time now,
but am ready to move forward and see if there is a community of people
also interested in my area. This would include Erie, Lafayette,
Louisville, Longmont and even possibly Northeast Boulder, Colorado.
Trying to figure out a location the community would be most interested
in. I am completely drawn to the idea of coworking as a place to
belong and the creative connections that people develop overtime.

My professional background is rooted in back-office financial
operations for cable programmers and broadcast television groups. I'm
currently leading a great team for a company in south Denver. On a
personal note, I'm married to a wonderful woman, Emily, and we have a
beautiful little girl, Annabel and our overly friendly Goldendoodle
named Hailey. My wife and I have talked about collaborating on a
project, or working together, for awhile and starting a space may just
be the perfect thing to start with. There's also a part of me that
wants my little girl to be proud of her daddy for creating something
that has lasting impact.

We look forward to the community's support and feedback as we start
our journey.

Thanks!
Steve

[Coworking] Introducing myself w@tercooler

2011-03-20 Thread Jenifer Ross
Hey Everyone-

My name is Jenifer Ross and I am opening a coworking space in
Tarrytown, NY.

If all goes as planned with construction, purchasing, wiring,
outfitting and populating the space, w@tercooler will open its doors
on June 1, 2011. The 1,600 square foot space is located on the second
floor of a nifty 1940's building and will comfortably accommodate
about 35 folks between the desks, shared tables and lounge area. We
will also have a conference room that seats ten, one private office, a
shared kitchen area and, if hopefully by late summer, an outdoor roof
deck.

I've been enjoying the many posts about coworking, and so appreciate
the open exchanges that take place in this group. I look forward to
being more active as my new world unfolds and I have more to both ask
and contribute.

All the best,

[Coworking] Introducing Myself (Nashville, TN)

2010-11-18 Thread MattSheppard12
Hello to all,

My name is Matt Sheppard and I am interested in starting a co-working
facility in Nashville, TN. After reading an article about co-working
I became very interested in the idea. I enjoy connecting people and
feel like a co-working facility would be a perfect opportunity to do
that.

Nashville has a great music scene and is full of song writers. A co-
working space with a music angle really interests me. I would be
interested if there are any spaces represented in this group that
presently do that?

I am excited about the idea and just need to get more information
before I move forward. That being said any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

Best of luck to you all.

Scott,

You'll find that it gets easier to explain as you find your own identity.
If you could hear how I sounded two years ago when we first opened Office
Nomads, and compare it to how I talk about what we do today, it would be
very amusing. Try out different things and see what sticks, and what feels
right to you.

Howdy Co-workers,
Just thought I'd drop a note to introduce myself.

I'm Morgan Sully and I run programming, marketing and partnerships for a new
media Lab http://macsddiy.posterous.com/ at Media Arts Center San Diego.

What I love is that it's in my neighborhood
http://macsddiy.posterous.com/results-from-our-google-mapping-workshop-0
(I live half a block from work), I get to work with friends (we're
partnering with a local FabLab) and I get to work on developing innovative
programing for the space:

*   Google Mapping Workshops
* Online Fundraising for Your Creative Projects
* New Media Show and Tells (part of the http://SHARE.dj global
network)

The Lab emphasizes learning and making through digital media.

We're in seed stages right now, but I'm really excited to solidify our
operations to make this a sustainable, collaborative resource for my
neighborhood.

Cheers from Golden Hill, San Diego,
Morgan

[Coworking] Introducing myself: Jedi from Los Angeles, CA / Philadelphia, PA

2010-02-16 Thread JediWright
Hello all-

I'm a Space Catalyst and Coworker, though I didn't realize it fully as
such until today. I stopped in at Blankspaces.com across the street
from my apt, where I met Jerome and got a tour and the low down on his
space (it's a beautiful space by the way).

I've been involved with all this on various levels since 1996 when, at
17, I synced up with a motley crew of artists, performers and others
at one of our old employers properties. Some of us, including the
employers son, co-managed an outdoor adventure company by day and then
gathered together with others afterhours for parties, movies, and then
increasingly so for the common vision of forming a collective, for-
and non-profit group to raise the locals awareness on a number of
topics. While we had high hopes our efforts never moved much further
than our dinner parties and other planning meetings - we looked at
some spaces and drew out some floor plans even but nothing more.

Next was my last two years of secondary school during which I
homeschooled myself but would go on campus to use it's computer lab or
other study/work rooms (this makes me think that study hall is
probably another early model for coworking spaces), then again in
college/at university where computer labs were nearly every other room
(at least the art/design/computer schools anyway).

Then I relocated to Los Angeles and made ample use of Internet cafes,
connected with collectives, and with live/work loft communities like
The Brewery Art Colony, Abundant Sugar, The Do LaB, Sugar Shack, and
most recently, the Catalyst Artist Collective.

Throughout all this time, I've continued reconnecting to the ideals
and themes I helped craft back in the nineties as a teenager, merging
them together with my adult ones in the hopes of birthing something
new.

Also, my experience in event productions, eCommerce, social media
marketing, carpentry and construction, and other related areas lends
itself to my desire to create space for something new on some level.
One of my working concepts is called Floorspace which arose from a
desire for more floorspace to dance at clubs, then morphed towards
more practical uses as I became more active in business.

As Ken said in his intro, it might be that I don't take this any
further too. But I keep bumping into signs along the way that inspire
this desire to be played out as far I can take it.

[Coworking] Introducing myself - Ken from Reigate, Surrey, UK

2010-02-02 Thread logorrhoea
Hi everyone,

I'm Ken and I'm a 'Space Catalyst' thinking about starting a coworking
space in Reigate, Surrey, UK. I'm currently in a serviced office -
which is great, and definitely cost efficient - but the company
running the shared office are putting together people with very
different jobs, and there isn't a great community feel about it.

I'm currently in the really early stages of trying to gauge the
interest out there for the space, so it might be that I don't take it
any further but I'm looking forward to getting tips from those of you
who have started from scratch in a relatively small town, as opposed
to a city.

Cheers,

Ken

the coworking wiki.

Be well!

[Coworking] Introducing myself and plans for coworking in Prague, Czech Republic

2009-04-02 Thread DaveRuzius

Hi All,

Dave Ruzius from Prague here. Originally Dutch but have been here in
Prague for a while now.
I've been working in IT and Consulting for 17 years and although I'm
doing quit a few web projects myself I've found out that I'm not that
good a coder :( but seem to be better in talking and bringing people
together.

By luck (or unfortune) I find myself working at home most of the time
on my projects and this is becoming painfull.. As a social person (the
human is not a solitairy creature) I miss the interaction with other
people and sometimes find myself sitting in the shopping centre just
to see some people. (Sad)

Anyway, at the moment I'm exploring options for starting a coworking
space in Prague as there is a large community of independent workers
and creative minds out there that may benefit from collaborating in
real life rather than on the web.

As a start I've created the Independent workers in Prague Facebook
group to get the people together and discuss issues / needs.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=74593553112

I hope to et some positive response and to be able to take it from
there. It will be a long process but hey... I believe worth it.

More later.

[Coworking] Introducing myself, plans for coworking in Lancaster, PA

2009-03-30 Thread danielklotz

Hi, I'm Daniel Klotz. I'm part of a team of people in Lancaster, PA
who met through The Creative House of Lancaster (http://
www.thechl.org), a new and local networking group for all creative
types. We are working out the details on a lease of an incredible
building in downtown Lancaster--the original powerplant, now
beautifully rehabbed--which will house not only a variety of coworking
spaces for 25+ individuals, but also a large coffee shop and separate
performance venue.

I look forward to learning a lot from this group and to sharing our
experiences as we take coworking to the next level in Lancaster.

[Coworking] Introducing myself--from Boulder, CO

2008-12-19 Thread Drea

Hi everyone,

I am really excited to have found this group. I've been dreaming of
creating a coworking space for quite a while. Believe it or not, I
just learned about coworking as a concept (I know, I kind of lagged on
that one), and am extremely stoked to see that it's exactly what I've
been conceiving of while stuck in coffee shops!

I'm baffled that there isn't a coworking space in Boulder. Is anyone
else from the area interested in starting one up? I apologize for
asking this without thoroughly researching archives, but I wanted to
put it out there.

About me: I'm a freelance writer. Right now, my primary project is
blogging for a popular business blog called BusinessPundit.com. There,
I spew drivel intermixed with facts. I enjoy criticizing Hank Paulson
and celebrating independent thinkers. I encourage you to shuffle
through the blog if you're interested in biz-like topics. I also write
for several magazines and have a book out called The Backroads and
Byways of Colorado.

I sit at home working in my pajamas way too often. I would love to
collaborate and hang with fellow self-employed types. I am chomping at
the bit to start up a Boulder coworking venue.

Looking forward to the process.

Cheers, everyone,

Drea

[Coworking] introducing myself, Jeremy Welch

2008-12-03 Thread Jeremy

I recently joined the coworking google group and I've made a couple
posts, so I think its time that I introduce myself.

My name is Jeremy Welch and I'm based out of Raleigh-Durham, NC. I
currently work at Ignite Social Media Agency, doing a variety of
things (we're a growing company, so there's lots to do!).

I've already learned a lot by reading through the threads here, and
look forward to contributing in the future.

Also, I've been working on some web tools for coworkers/coworkings
spaces. I talked with a local coworking space owner to understand what
problems he's running into with his space, and started building an
alpha shortly after we talked. I'm a couple weeks out from a beta. As
soon as I get it running, this group will be one of my first stops for
feedback.

Thanks!

[Coworking] Introducing myself: ATL-based, trying to create coworking space

2008-08-18 Thread Blake Perdue

My name is Blake Perdue (http://blakeperdue.com), I'm a graduate
student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. I work part-time at a startup
incubator (http://atdc.org). We're trying to learn as much as we can
about coworking, the challenges of creating a space, pitfalls to
avoid, etc as we look to create a coworking space in our office.

I hope to learn much from you all and thank you for your attention.

[Coworking] Introducing myself - Nick in Seattle (Fremont)

2008-06-19 Thread nickf

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to the group. I am
quite new here and a Space Catalyst. I co-run a web company called
Blue Flavor in Fremont, a neighborhood of Seattle. I am also the
owner of Digital Web Magazine, an online magazine for web
professionals.

I think I may know a few people in this group, so hello! I am in the
process of setting up a space at our office, most everything is in
place but we're still adding the final touches, setting up a website
for the space and so forth.

I do have a bunch of questions for the group but feel I am a little
too green to be firing questions off in my first post.

Thanks,
- Nick

[Coworking] Introducing myself and the Coworking Léman community (Switzerland)

2008-06-13 Thread Stephanie Booth
Hello!

First, let me introduce myself.

Stephanie Booth, pink-haired social media thingy and event organiser
blogging away at Climb to the Stars and now various other places
(http://friendfeed.com/sbooth will give you the best summary). I live
in Lausanne, Switzerland, and as a freelance consultant who's often on
the road, I came to learn about coworking (mainly during my stay last
summer in SF, with Chris and Tara).

I'm somebody who enjoys working from home, but suffers a bit from lack
of structure in my days/life at times. I've also been through phases
of intense work when preparing my conference Going Solo, where I
wished I had somewhere else to go and work than home.

I'm the kind of person who'd like a place to meet clients, and go and
Get Stuff Done 3-4 half-days a week. (And also meet human beings I'm
not necessarily interacting with one-on-one during all the time I'm
with them.)

I've been talking about coworking in my area for some time now, and
found some like-minded people, but unfortunately not enough (and not
enough solid interest) to actually set up a space. One of the issues
that we deal with here (I really think it's a cultural/regional thing)
is that people are not ready to commute much (me included). A
30-minute commute to work is usually considered a long way away, here.
As far as coworking is concerned, that means we need to find enough
interested in a reasonably small geographical area -- and Lausanne,
second only to Geneva around here, is about 150'000 people, 200'000 if
I'm generous (correct me if I'm wrong).

So, not to whine, but the situation here is slightly different than in
the middle of a big metropolis.

Over the last months, I was approached twice with spaces that could be
suitable for coworking, so I started thinking seriously about putting
the energy to gather enough people to start a community here. In both
cases, the space availability didn't work out (funding issues and lack
of existing community to solve them). So, I decided to keep the idea
warm, and work on gathering the community somewhere so that should a
suitable space show up, it would be easy to see if enough potential
tenants were interested.

Coworking, like BarCamp, is a very local thing. But if your local is
too small, nothing much happens. I decided to create a mailing-list
for interested people in the area, the latter being loosely defined
as around the lake. (Lake Geneva, or Lac Léman -- its real name.)
There is also a blog, but it's in a very embryonic state at the
moment.

If you're in Switzerland, or neighbouring France, feel free to join
our group so you can meet other interested people in your area.

http://groups.google.com/group/coworking-leman/

Just now, it seems the tenants of the office space on the ground floor
of my building are going to be heading out by 2009. They've asked me
if I was interested in taking over the space. I'm pretty extatic, as
it seems quite ideal to me: 116m2, calm, accessible by car and public
transport (5 min by bus from city centre), cheap (700$/mo), has a
separate room we can turn into a meeting room, and big windows with
the garden just outside. So, I'm in the process of trying to figure
out if there are enough people in the Lausanne area for me to take the
risk of signing the lease :-)

If there are coworking efforts taking place elsewhere in Switzerland,
I'd be really happy to learn about them!

Cheers

Steph

[Coworking] Introducing myself

2008-05-19 Thread Cheryl H

Hey everyone. I just discovered the whole concept of coworking last
week, but have had this exact notion in my head for a long time. I'm
a writer and writing alone is an exercise in writer's block for me. I
like to have low level noise, background conversations... anything
except the godawful music that's piped into Starbucks or any other
public space.

I live in Pasadena, CA and have finally figured out what I need to be
productive and it doesn't include holing up and pounding stuff out. I
always do more and concentrate better if there are other humans at
work around me. I'm interested in finding a space in Pasadena, the
Valley (Studio City, Burbank, Glendale, North Hollywood) or a second
space in LA, besides Blankspaces.

Hoping to meet and work alongside some of you soon.

Cheryl Holliday

[Coworking] Introducing Myself and Looking into Starting Coworking Space in TX

2008-05-06 Thread BusynessStudent

Hey Guys and Gals! I just wanted to take some time to introduce
myself. My names Joel and I'm going to be graduating this Friday from
Texas State University. This past spring I was in a class that
required us to start a business. I helped started one and have helped
an other start looking for funding. Early on in the semester I
pitched an idea of a co-op working space before I even knew there was
such a thing. Now that I am about to graduate I have time to start
focusing on my future. So if anybody is wanting to start a coworking
space in San Antonio, Houston, or Austin I would love to work with ya!
I would have a floor or couch to sleep on in each city. Ive been
working on some financials and hope this coming Saturday to pitch my
idea for coworking space to my family. I know its not going to make me
a millionaire over night. I just want to work beside creative people
who are all entrepreneurs in there own right so that one day I will
find the way to my dreams. thanks in advance for reading through my
horrible writing. I hope to stay in touch.

[Coworking] introducing myself

2008-02-23 Thread CoupleCare

Hi, i am the cofounder and ceo of a startup called to help couples
have happier stronger relationships. I am ideally seeking space in
return for equity, since i am tapped out in what i spending on
subsistence pay for my enginerer (might need a new one too) right hand
office person, and designer. We were a finalist in the UC Berkeley BP
competition, and have strong interest in our invention by major
healthinsurance companies, and an alpha that couples have loved.

[Coworking] Introducing myself and my project in Londo n - Social Media Café

2007-10-25 Thread Lloyd Davis

Hi everyone, I'm quite embarrassed not to have been here before, it's
been one of those things that's slipped through my fingers when my
phone rings, e-mail pings or twitter tweets. Mea culpa.

I saw that there was some activity a little while ago - Hi Riccardo
Lars :) I'm jumping in here now because I'm able to give this project
some real time at last.

To let you know what I'm thinking in a nutshell. I want to create a
*social* space in London that is not *entirely* focused on work, but
which helps facilitate work taking place. The primary space is a
café, a real place in Central London where bloggers, podcasters and
other fellow socialmediatistas (and their friends who think they may
like to be socialmediatistas), locals and out-of-towners, can come and
hang out with each other and with clients, drink coffee, talk and meet
each other. A place where you *know* you're going to find a kindred
spirit or at least someone who understands a little of what your
talking about. Comfort and ease is the name of the game - a place to
build offline relationships out of those pesky online relationships.

On one side of this space I envision a more private co-working space
in the spirit of those described on this group - a place for work,
with desks, powerstrips, whiteboards, ethernet cables, printer,
scanner, various cables and card-readers etc. I love the idea I've
seen for cooperBricolage (and doubtless elsewhere) of freelancers
signing up on the wiki and advertising their presence.

In addition, I want another room for training and hiring out for
events meetings. A place for blogging masterclasses and micro
unconferences as well as press briefings and product launches and
perhaps screenings and live performances from our more openly artistic
compadres.

The story so far is that I blogged about this here: http://tinyurl.com/23jne9
- you can see the further thinking that's gone on on my blog

And set up a wiki for discussing: http://londonsocialmediacafe.pbwiki.com/

And a facebook group to gauge interest:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4068990923
which quickly acquired 250 members, the majority of whom are in or
near London - sorry if you're not on facebook you won't be able to see
that :(

I'm also going to be talking about this at web2open in Berlin next
month and at BarCampLondon3

I'm working up the business plan right now and talking to people about
funding and sponsorship as well as looking for suitable venues. The
nub of it it seems to me is how soon we can find the right place and
to what extent the various revenues I envisage from these 3 product
areas can exceed the costs of doing business in Central London. I'm
interested in building a real business that makes a profit for those
who contribute to its success.

I'm particularly looking now for local co-conspirators who can give
time and energy to really make this happen.

All advice, feedback, elephant-trap-warnings are warmly welcomed.

Cheers :)

Lloyd
