You must have skimmed through my post rather quick. If you notice, it was a question, not an answer. I was hoping for a response from someone who had an abortion, what their thoughts may be. The point I was making is that to some people, an abortion is something done without enough thought, that comes back to haunt them. It would make more sense to me if all men had vasectomies and froze their sperm for later in life, should he and his partner decide they want children, then unwanted pregnancies would be kept to a minimum. MOST women who terminate pregnancy do so after hours of thought, often painful and uncomfortable reflection...but without question their choice is correct...and for you or anyone else to second-guess them is, at best armchair quarterbacking...and that's at best... I imagine MOST probably put days of thought in to this decision. Read my post again, I wasn't second guessing anyone, but relating my own personal experiences. Age may also be a factor since these women were all in their late 30's early 40's. I would think that a woman who was really comfortable with her decision would probably be ok with her decision. 17 may be just a little young to make a decision that could affect you for the rest of your life. Any ladies out there that have had an abortion, or know someone who has - have some light to shed on this subject? I would appreciate some comments about whether or not this has come back to haunt them, or didn't make any difference. Now why do you think President Clinton is so soft on Mexico? There's no question that he is. That's not in debate. Why is he so soft? BUCHANAN: His NAFTA policy. He's got an enormous investment in that. He thinks it's a crown jewel of his legacy. And I don't think he wants to upset it. That's why he's remained silent, despite the fact that our NAFTA free trade partner is conspiring with Saudi Arabia and Iran to hold oil off the market to gauge American consumers, triple the price of oil, and double the price of gasoline. That's not free trade. Clinton hasn't said a word about it. O'REILLY: No. Well, they made a mistake by not acting more swiftly, Mr. Buchanan. Didn't you hear that? Never in U.S. history has there been a Cabinet more rife with personalities whose loyalties and sympathies are to Israel, as well as to the U.S. And in many cases these persons wouldn't be where they are but for the political and financial intervention of the infamous "Israeli/Jewish lobby", a collection of some 40 different interlocking organizations that together make-up this powerful entity which continues to have a stranglehold over U.S. policies in the Middle East. And all this is not an accident. This question, as Mr. Chris Tarrant might say, is worth £150,000. When quizzed
about the accuracy of a past statement during a recent libel trial, who came up
with the memorable line 'I was not knowingly not telling the truth'? Was it
Jeffrey Archer, Jonathan Aitken, Neil Hamilton or Mohamed Fayed?
Actually it was none of those veterans of the sleaze wars. It was Ian Williams,
ITN journalist and seeker after the truth. The £150,00 was his share of the
f375,000 libel damages awarded to ITN and two reporters, over an article
published in LM magazine (circulation 10,000) three years ago-damages that have
already forced the magazine to close, and still threaten to bankrupt myself as
LM editor and Helene Guldberg, the co-publisher.
To sit in Court 14 through three weeks of our libel trial was to experience
justice through the looking-glass. English libel law is a system where the
defendants are presumed guilty unless they can prove their innocence; where a
journalist such as ITN's Penny Marshall, who has reported on wars and crises
around the world, could claim that being criticised in LM had 'upset me more
than anything else that has happened to me', and get aggravated damages for her
hurt feelings; and where the judge could sum up by telling the jury, as Nick
Higham reported on BBC News, that 'LM's facts might have been right, but, he
asked, did that matter?' Standing on the steps of the High Court after the
verdict, I told the assembled media that while we apologised for nothing, we
would not be appealing, since 'life is too short to waste any more time in the
bizarre world of Mr Justice Morland's libel court'.
Some of LM's fiercest critics, and ITN's most fervent supporters, have come
from the liberal-left media. Meanwhile, many who have condemned ITN's actions
and defended our right to publish are conservatives who one might not think of
as the natural allies of a magazine that began life as Living Marxism. This
line-up reflects some of the strange alliances that have drifted together as we
thrash around in the uncharted waters of post-Cold War politics, nowhere more
so than in the debate about Western intervention in the former Yugoslavia-one
of the issues behind the libel case.
For 375,000 obvious reasons, I cannot repeat the allegations that the article
in LM made about the presentation of ITN's famous pictures of an emaciated
Bosnian Muslim and a barbed-wire fence at the Serb-run Trnopolje camp in 1992.
But I can say that LM has consistently tried to counter the crude attempts by
too many in the media to Nazify the Serbs and compare the conflicts in the
former Yugoslavia to the unique horror of the Holocaust. For that I have been
branded an appeaser, a revisionist and even a 'tinpot Holocaust denier' (the

world, it seems to me that the primary motive behind many liberals' new
enthusiasm for intervention can be found closer to home. Like Saul, their first
concern is with saving their own souls.
By reducing complex foreign conflicts to fairytale struggles between good and
evil, they put themselves on the side of the angels. At a time when few of the
old certainties seem to hold at home, how comforting it is for the Western
conscience to rediscover such a clear sense of moral purpose 'over there'. The
crusading hacks are really using other people's life-and-death conflicts as a
therapy session through which to give their own lives more meaning. Listen to
some liberal journalists talk about a conflict like Bosnia or Kosovo as 'the
test of our generation', or as the chance to walk in their father's footsteps
on the moral high ground by fighting ithe new Nazis' (the contemporary
equivalent of the Devil himself). In the fashionable language of self-help,
they are meddling in places such as the former Yugoslavia on an outreach
programme designed to raise their own self-esteem.
One aspect of the therapeutic world view that is particularly ruinous of good

Recently discovered photographs taken at a secret laboratory in the 1950s reveal for the first time how close Britain came to developing a saucer-shaped stealth fighter after the second world war. The pictures, taken at a research centre in Canada, show a revolutionary ultra-high-speed jet fighter designed by the British engineer John Frost. Aviation experts who studied the pictures last week said the jet incorporated some of the features on America's stealth fighter plane. Work on the aircraft in the 1950s was codenamed Project Y. Frost and his team initially set out to build a disc-shaped machine with vertical takeoff, but ended with a sleek, arch-shaped aircraft. The pictures are a wonderful find, said David Windle, who has researched the history of Project Y. It is technology that Britain just lost and it is a pity the project was abandoned. Who knows what would have happened if they had pursued it. The photographs were taken at a laboratory in Malton, near Toronto, where Frost was working with Avro-Canada, a subsidiary of the British firm Avro, to develop a jet fighter for the Canadian government. He wanted to create an aircraft which could fly at 2,500mph and take off and land on its tail. The existence of Project Y has been known about for years, but no pictures of the aircraft have ever been found. An aviation researcher accidentally discovered the photographs in a file at the Public Records Office in Kew. An elongated saucer shape was used because of the revolutionary radial flow jets designed to power it. The engines were designed to emit the exhaust gases from several small nozzles, increasing the thrust of the jet. Aviation experts said last week that the prototype vehicle would have been almost invisible to radar because of its slim cross-section. It would also have been more likely to evade enemy missiles because of the lower heat output through the numerous jet outlets. It is not known why the revolutionary jet never went into production, but the project was abandoned before the plane had its first test flight. Reach for the sky: despite its sleek look, the Avro never flew Alex Raeburn, then assistant superintendent of manufacturing at Avro, described the life of secrecy for those on the base. The security was very tight, he says. Armed guards were stationed on the doors and drawings were taken away as soon as we'd made the component. In fact, we never knew exactly what it was we were making. Verne Morse, one of the team who worked on the secret project, said he was amazed any pictures had survived because of the total secrecy surrounding the project. I was involved wth a young woman who decide to have an abortion. I supported her in the plan. Actually I was relieved. I am still angered by the incredible lack of support provided to us before and after the abortion. I was told I would "get over it" before she would. No one explained to me how much longer it would take me to realize what I had done, or how callous and selfish I would look to her while hoping it was all over. Needless to say, it destroyed my relationship with the woman I hoped to marry. I ws heart broken for years. I know God has forgiven me, but I still have to live with this every day. Decision on inquiry on Echelon postponed for a week Jelle van Buuren 06.04.2000 Big political groups in European Parliament don't want a committee of inquiry Deutsche Fassung The European Parliaments Conference of Presidents (an organ consisted of the presidents of all political groups) today did not decide on the inquiry on Echelon. The decision has been postponed for a week. It is assumed some political groups wants more time to make their decision. The Greens in the European Parliament asked for the [Local Link] parliamentary inquiry. They have the support of a quarter of the members of parliament. But the big political groups in the European Parliament are reluctant to the idea. At a meeting of the Committee on Citizen's Rights, that was held wednesday, the European People's Party and European Democrats (EPP/ED) was opposed to any idea of setting up a committee of inquiry into Echelon. The EPP/ED is in favour of a temporary committee. Another suggestion is that the Parliament first makes its own study into data protection and data interception. The Party of European Socialists (PES) also was reluctant to the idea of a committee of inquiry, as Echelon is not a Community activity. Also, the PES predicted the US and UK would not come testify for the committee. The PES favoured a temporary committee. This committee could adopt a report with recommendations to the European Council and European Commission. A spokesman of the Greens told us the Greens were willing to accept a temporary committee. "A temporary committee has almost the same powers as a committee of inquiry." He expects next week the Parliaments Conference of Presidents will propose a temporary committee. But he warned there is still the possibility, the Conference of Presidents rejects the idea of any investigation on Echelon. "This would be a very unsatisfactory result," the spokesman said. I'd hazard a guess that if you and I decided to loiter on any street in Miami, we'd soon have cops telling us to move along. If we didn't, we'd find ourselves arrested. For some reason this simple anti-loitering statute is NOT being applied in this case. Any state in the union would recognize a biological father's right to have custody of his own son, over the claims of a maternal grand-uncle, unless it could be proven that for some reason the father was an unfit parent. Far from proving that, the Miami relatives have actually bolstered the claim that the father was fit, by publicly questioning for months why the father didn't come see his son in Miami -- if they considered him unfit, why suggest he should come? As for what the majority of the U.S. citizenry thinks about this case, almost everyone outside of the Cuban community says the kid should be returned to his father, irregardless if the father asks for political sanctuary here, are returns with Elian to Cuba. Seems to me the same offer was made to send slaves back to Africa, is that your politics? Do you think ex-Cubans have no right to be here? They have the same rights as all citizens, no less, but certainly no more. One has to wonder why the Cuban mob parked in permanent encampment outside the home where Elian is staying are being given special treatment. One wonders why this Cuban child should get any more special treatment from the INS and the Justice Department than a child escaping from Haiti. Do you support Castro? Are you a Communist? And, why are you afraid to use your real name? Speaking only for myself, it is quite common to use a nickname on the Internet, in fact it is more common than not. In my case I use the nickname, and only sign with my first name, to avoid stalking. As for my politics, my postings to this list over the years should easily answer that question. It is not a matter of whether one is Communist or not, or whether one supports Castro or not. It is a matter of upholding U.S. law -- the kid was part of an operation to enter the U.S. illegally, after all. And he DOES have a living parent, who is fit to care for him. If the father lived in Georgia, there would be no discussion. The only reason you and your ilk give for denying this father his right to take custody of his own son is because you don't like the country he comes from. If this was a case involving a mother escaping Iraq with her child, and the father back in Iraq wanting to take custody of his child after the mother's death, I would still support the father's right to raise his own child, even though I have Saddam Hussein and his politics. The reason we are called prolife is because we are concerned about
protecting life from conception until natural death. We are active against
euthanasia.
The rub Tara is that most self-professed "pro-lifers" are also pro-death
penalty...intellectually inconsistant IMHO.
I tend to think that anti-choice or anti-abortion are better descriptions...
They also tend to be anti-sex education ("let's keep the kids in the dark about how
babies are made") and anti-contraceptive ("God
created sex only for procreation, not recreation")...
You are correct, Bill, 'anti-choice' is a better description of them than 'pro-life'...

It is true American imperialism in the American revolution wanted to an-
nex Canada. That was the first goal of the revolution. You remember
the Oregon trail which goal it was to get a grudge match going with the
Brits? The war would be fought on two fronts. Remember 55'40" or fight?
The treaty of Webster-Ashburton defined the D-line in Minnesota and
Maine. But do American's know, or Canadians for that matter, that the
Brits ("they are good at giving away what they don't own) offered the
America negotiators the ENTIRE geat lakes. And some more territory as
well. They said that is not exceptable and what border you see today is
what they demanded. Was this done to set up a "grudge" match later?
Interestingly, when the border with Mexico was determined the Mexicans
offered us the Baja Californian penninsula which would have given us
the mouth of the mouth of the Colorado river which would be worth
billions today but the water must be shared.
Do you recall Ponco Villa who the American army alleged was violating
our territory? The Rio Grande is not a good border and it is obvious to
me that the Americas wanted the mountain range furthur south for the bor
der. The army advanced far into Mexico and demanded a plenipotentiary
to negotiate but one was not sent and I would think the Brits pulled us
off of the Mexicans. Look at the map of Africa and you can see how
Rhodes chopped up the continent for divide and conquer. Same on our
continent.
I believe that our two countries will be one nation as it should have
been before the Revolution. But when that happens it will be at the
Canadian dictation. Power moves north to south; civilization from east
to west; mercy from south to north and destruction from west to east.
The pope told us we are going to be a poor country. You may have little
idea of American companies that are owned or controled by foreigners nor
do most Americans. The only care where they can get it cheaper.
P.T. Barnum said, "you'll never go broke underestimating the intelligen-
ce of the American public".
I say we can't help it. Every American is born a fool. And if an alien
becomes a naturalised citizen and gets his little flag to wave, he be-

Bernard Natanson who sent his girl friend off to Canada for an abortion was an atheistic Jewish intern. Their relationship was never the same. Eventually, he ran the largest abortuary in New York. WASHINGTON, April 8 -- The Central Intelligence Agency has dismissed a mid-level officer whose targeting error was blamed for the American bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade during NATO's air war against Yugoslavia last year, an agency official and a lawyer said today. Six other agency employees, including a senior official and four supervisors, also received administrative punishments from the director of Central Intelligence, George J. Tenet, for their roles in approving the target, which officials have said was intended to be a Yugoslav military supply headquarters, the agency official said. In punishing the employees, the agency acknowledged that blame for the bombing fell on a range of people and spanned several levels of responsibility. Within hours of the attack on the night of May 7, officials at the White House, the Pentagon and the C.I.A. insisted that it was an accident -- the result of simple human error. The attack badly derailed relations between the United States and China, provoking stone-throwing mobs to swarm the American Embassy in Beijing and producing diplomatic strains that still lingers. But it was only on Thursday, 11 months after the bombing, that the agency began to punish those held responsible, dismissing the officer blamed for the targeting. The bombing of the embassy occurred during NATO's 78-day air war. The attack, which killed 3 Chinese and wounded 20 others sleeping in the basement for protection, exposed deep doubts in the alliance over the wisdom of its strategy and the susceptibility of even the most advanced American military weaponry to human error. A senior Chinese general visiting Washington in late January demanded to know when those responsible would be punished. Today, Under Secretary of State Thomas R. Pickering met at the State Department with China's ambassador, Li Zhao Xing, to inform him of the dismissal and other punishments. "The Chinese side has been informed of this decision, but at this point we don't have any information on what kind of response the Chinese are going to make, and any kind of response would have to be made in Beijing," a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy said today. The statement did not mention what actions Mr. Tenet had taken, though an agency official and the lawyer for one of the employees later described them generally. For the past 2000 years, God, Jesus, and the Holy Sprit have been working through Christianity to create a foundation of faith and an environment of freedom in which to finally accomplish his goal. As we have seen, particularly since the Renaissance and the Reformation, God has been working to expand his world wide providence. The discovery of the new world and the history of America as a champion of freedom have been of central importance. Just as America could not successfully establish a foundation for freedom for itself and for the world until the "organic sin" of slavery had been removed form the national constitution, so in order for us to enter the emerging world of true love we must deal with the "original sin" of sexual immorality. This is the reason that we are stressing the idea that married couples rededicate their marriages consciously to the ideal of God, true love, sexual fidelity, and world peace and commit themselves to raise their children to be sexually pure. FBI Director Louis J. Freeh advised Janet Reno to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate possible criminal wrongdoing by Clinton and Al Gore. Now, Freeh is looking for a new job and Clinton is putting Reno in charge of the Emergency Response Program. Clinton defenders will no doubt say this is a good move because Reno proved how well she handles emergencies at Waco! I copied the following directly from the White House website, so there can be no doubt as to its authenticity. Bill Clinton is putting Butch Reno in charge of the Emergency Response Assistance Program (known as the Domestic Preparedness Program). This Program is for training and providing assistance to state and local agencies to be prepared and respond to "terrorist attacks" and emergencies involving chemical, biological, nuclear weapons. Up till now, the Secretary of Defense has been in charge of this program. (The following is my opinion). 1. The DOD is the logical agency to conduct this program in terms of mission, equipment, logictics, and its structure of Communication, Command, and Controland experience and training regarding CBR weapons. 2. DARE indoctrination fails to work and ends up endangering families By Diane Barnes Everyone is rightly concerned about the dangers that drugs pose to our children. However, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) is demonstrably ineffective and an actual danger to our families. Many hours are spent indoctrinating children through DARE -- valuable time and resources that should be used for academics. Thanks to DARE and other useless, so-called self- esteem programs, American 12th graders now consistently score below average in math and science in international tests. One of the most comprehensive studies from the University of Kentucky tracks more than 1,000 Midwestern students who participated in DARE in the sixth grade. The research published last August in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology showed that there is no difference between those who received DARE and those who did not in their use of cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana or other drugs. The only difference was that those who received the training had lower levels of self-esteem. The Research Triangle Institute (RTI) was hired by the Justice Department to do a statistical analysis of all DARE research. RTI analyzed eight studies involving 9,500 children. Their report says that DARE has a "limited to essentially nonexistent effect" on drug use. World-renowned psychologists Bill Coulson, Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow developed the theories that DARE was founded on. Rogers and Maslow later admitted their theories were wrong and off-base. Coulson concluded that the program is "rooted in trash psychology" in a December 1998 interview in the Boulder Weekly in Colorado. The director of DARE America, Glenn Levant, argues that the solution to the program's ineffectiveness is to spend even more money on it. What else would he say? The one thing DARE is undeniably good at is raising money. News stories have reported that DARE uses lobbyists to compete for its share of more than $500 million in federal money targeted for drug and violence prevention. DARE claims the program costs are less than $200 million annually, but other credible estimates range as high as $700 million, considering all the costs. Ominously, DARE is also encouraging kids to spy and inform on parents and friends. Children are asked to submit to DARE police officers sensitive written questions that can easily refer to the kids' homes. And you might be surprised by a DARE lesson called "The Three R's: Recognize, Resist, Report," which encourages children to tell friends, teachers or police if they find drugs at home. DARE officials have denied that the program is set up to bust parents, but incidents of parental arrests related to DARE have been documented in Georgia, Colorado, Oklahoma, Maryland and Maine. If you ask kids about the anti-drug program, most of them will tell you it is boring or an excuse to get out of class. DARE's usual response to criticism is to dismiss the evidence and rely on anecdotes. The good news is that school districts and police departments in California, Colorado and Texas have seen through this and have dumped the program. We should do the same in Michigan. Parents must tell their local district to reject the hype associated with this putative drug education program. We should replace it with math, science or other academic class work -- the kind of education we expect our schools to provide and the kind of education they have so tragically neglected. Both devloped int highly political people, had strange sexual relationships, and changed the 20th century. Wittgenstein had a profound effect at groups of people such as the apostles(homosexual oxbridge crowd) along with Victor Rothschild into bringing the english elite to favour communism. SIX Schopenhauer, Rosenberg and Race Theory In his Biographical Sketch of Wittgenstein, Von Wright states bluntly that Wittgenstein appears to have had no historical predecessors in philosophy. This is certainly a tribute to Wittgensteins originality, but by now the reader ought to have developed some doubts that it might be so. My own belief is that, through Schopenhauer, his predecessors occupy a greater historical and geographical spread than do those of any other Western philosopher. Wittgensteins philosophy of mind has an ancient and curiously split pedigree. Some of its lineage goes back through Schopenhauer to Kant. But its apparent novelty is due to the other branch that goes back through Schopenhauer. It is basically Indian, in just the sense that Schopenhauers philosophy of mind is Indian. This is not to say that the source was necessarily Indian. But Wittgensteins doctrines have (as Schopenhauer acknowledged of his own philosophy) an Indian character, a discernible Indian smell. Western philosophers such as Von Wright, unused to seeing modern philosophical issues in Indian religious doctrines, are thus unlikely to detect their eruption in the work of the most original philosopher this century. It is also possible that the source of this Indian smell, certainly in Schopenhauers philosophy and therefore possibly in Wittgensteins also, really was India after all. We shall examine some of the internal evidence in Schopenhauers works in a moment. The trail is hardly over virgin ground, for details of Schopenhauers abiding interest in Indian thought have been recorded already, most recently by Wilhelm Halbfass: Schopenhauers interest in India was awakened early by the Orientalist F. Major: who was effective as a recruiter for India among the Romantics. . .3 Halbfass also quotes Schopenhauers own words of 1816, written during the production of the first volume of The World as Will and Representation: By the way, I admit that I do not believe that my doctrine could have ever been formulated before the Upanishads, Plato, and Kant were able to all cast their light simultaneously on to a human mind.4 What was the harmony that Schopenhauer discerned between his own and Indian thought? Halbfass continues: His approach to Indian philosophy was, so to speak, that of a recognitive historiography of philosophy (wiedererkennende Philosophiegeschichtc) which remained open to the possibility of finding the same insights in the most diverse historical contexts. Schopenhauer felt that the basic ideas of his philosophy, viz., the doctrine of the world as will and representation, of a fundamental unity of reality and an apparent projection into spattemporal multiplicity, could be found among the Indians, and not just in the form of historical antecedents, but in a sense of truth which knows no historical and geographical restrictions. This approach is exactly the one we have been following in our interpretation of Wittgenstein in the light of Schopenhauer. And we shall try to bring out the relevance of the doctrines found among the Indians to both Schopenhauer and Wittgenstein, again in a sense of truth which knows no historical and geographical restrictions. The reader must note that these doctrines found among the Indians are the only surviving examples of the religious beliefs of the early Aryans. We shall see soon what the Nazi race theorists were to make of these Aryan doctrines. Suffice to say that, they present a theory of the mind that is fundamentally at odds with the Jewish doctrine of the otherness of Yahweh. For these early Aryans, the Divine Mind is the individual mind, if only the individual mind could purge itself of the errors that prevent it from discerning this fact. Modern commentators on Schopenhauer tend to downplay the significance of the Indian connection. There appears to be a feeling that his interpretation of Indian religious doctrines was idiosyncratic and quite certainly wrong; even that Schopenhauer was somewhat of a crank. The commentators might be right about this, but it is foolishness to ignore the beliefs of influential cranks. Schopenhauers ideas infected Nietszche, Wagner, Wittgenstein and Hitler. It is therefore important to bring out what Schopenhauer thought was significant about Indian religious doctrines, for he had no doubts at all about their value. He was rather contemptuous of Anglican missionaries in particular and wrote: WC, on the contrary, now send to the Brahmans English clergymen and evangelical linen-weavers, in order out of sympathy to put them right, and to point out to them that they are created out of nothing, and that they ought to be rateful and pleased about it. But it is just the same as if we fired a bullet at a cliff. In India our religions will never at any time take root; the ancient wisdom of the human race will not be supplanted by the events in Galilee. On the contrary, Indian wisdom

SEVEN Magic, Sorcery and Hitler (Picture of hitler weaving a spell) The Magus of Bayer To many, Cambridge and Oxford universities come paired with images of something distinctively and gloriously English: dreaming spires and reflective civilization. To others come thoughts of triumphant intellectual progress: the great scientific discoveries in physics and biology, the philosophical work of Russell, Moore and Wittgenstein, or the economic theo-ries of Keynes. At various times over the century past, however, a number of Oxbridge no-ownership academics and students concerned themselves inot with the humanities or the sciences, but with the hermetic mysteries of magic and the occult. In this they followed the same path as the Alexandrine neo-Platonists, who also moved from a theory of a single soul with Plotinus to ritual magic with lamblichus. Some of these no-ownership theorists studied magic as object, and produced very clever philosophical anthropological observations on its role and mode of operation. In this category I include Collingwood and Wittgenstein. Some, however, devoted themselves to the practice of magic. Into this category come Aleister Crowley, Walter Duranty and a number of others. One aspect of this hermetic involvement of interest for our purposes is its repercussions, for via Crowley, Dennis Wheatley and Maxwell Knight, it was to penetrate the British security agencies. Those in positions of authority were not religious men and so did not view Crowleys advice askance. They used this advice to their own purpose, to help engineer, for example, the Hess defection. It appears that some of them even apprenticed themselves to Crowley, though this astonishing fact and its consequences are properly the concern of another book. Our prime concern here is not to demonstrate the existence of a coven within the British secu-rity agencies, but rather in how magic - which Schopenhauer called practical metaphysics - connects to the no-ownership theory of mind. We shall also be looking at Hitlers beliefs about magic and how they influenced his life. Schopenhauer remarked upon occult phenomena in various works and in two he discussed them in depth. These two are the chapter Animal Magnetism and Magic in Ott the Will in Nuture and the essay On Spirit Seeing in Pareuga and Paualipometta.3 Modern expositors of Schopen-hauers thought omit these essays entirely, as something of a scandal, much as historians neglected the alchemical writings of Sir Isaac Newton. They quite overlook their historical importance, and present Schopenhauer as a rationalist philosopher in the same mould as Kant. Schopenhauer, however, developed his own theory of occult phenomena, intrinsically tied to his own account of the Will. It was Schopenhauers ideas here that were to resonate in the musical mind of Richard Wagner. He offered an account of the nature of magic that was original with him and that has not, so far as I am aware, been presented elsewhere, although a variant that might be Schopenhauers is discernible in Crowleys writings on magic, with their emphasis on the Will. I do not 142 propose to investigate Crowleys writings here, nor do I commend them to the reader. Reading Crowley is like dipping ones hand into a bag full of lice and leeches. To approach Schopenhauers theory, we must consider first the question of the efficacy of magic. Readers of a rationalist persuasion will take it for granted that magic is not casually efficacious; but on the question of whether magical phenomena really occur, the assumption of. what follows is that some of them really do. Australian and South African readers are notably less sceptical than English and european readers in this regard. 1 well remember newspaper articles from my youth in Western Australia, recording cases of tribal aborigines brought to Perth hospitals following malevolent tribal sorcery. In some cases the victims died. Rather than document what I say here, I refer the doubtful reader to the anthropological literature. Analogues of pointing the bone or singing to death ceremonies exist in many human groups, but the Australian aboriginal practice is as well documented as any - as is the fact that there are deaths to its account. Skeptics dismiss such cases by saying that the victims simply died of fright and that the magical means employed were not efficacious as magic, but worked their effect through other means - perhaps via a pre-disposing fear. By MICHAEL LIND t the end of September, in 1919, the presidential train bearing Woodrow Wilson on a Western tour of speechmaking in his last-ditch, desperate effort to rally the nation behind the ratification of the Versailles Treaty of Peace, which the Senate seemed determined to nullify, pulled into Wichita, Kan., where a large crowd had gathered at the station to hear him,'' Louis Auchincloss begins. ''After a 15-minute wait the president's secretary, Joe Tumulty, appeared and announced gravely that his chief was suffering from 'nervous exhaustion' and could not make the address. The train then headed directly to Washington.'' The minor stroke aboard the train was followed by a major stroke on Oct. 2, which at once paralyzed the president and the government. From that point onward, the political and personal tragedies of Woodrow Wilson were one. While the treaty went down to defeat in the Senate, dooming his hopes for the League of Nations, Wilson cut himself off from one friend after another, including his closest aide, Col. Edward M. House. (Whether the failure of the United States to join the League of Nations was a tragedy may be debated; as League members, Britain and France failed to stop German, Italian and Japanese aggression, and it is doubtful that the United States, which had to be bombed into World War II, would have been driven to act earlier by a mere collective-security treaty.) The story of Thomas Woodrow Wilson is material for a tragedian, an American Shakespeare. Auchincloss, an American novelist and man of letters, is the next best thing. The esprit de finesse, the mastery of motive, that informs Auchincloss's more than 50 books of fiction and nonfiction complements Wilson's esprit de geometrie, his devotion to abstract principle. The match of subject, writer and genre in ''Woodrow Wilson'' is perfect. The genre of the brief life forces the biographer to concentrate on the years in which a person of historical importance does the work for which he is remembered (a span that may be only a fraction of a lifetime). Woodrow Wilson divides neatly into two parts: 1856-1914 and 1914-24. With a novelist's interest in the formation of character, Auchincloss describes the early years of Tommy Wilson, who was born in Virginia but grew up in Augusta, Ga., where his father, Joseph Wilson, became the chief executive of the Southern Presbyterian Church. Because Wilson's father came from Ohio and his mother, Jessie Woodrow, from England, Auchincloss writes, ''Wilson's claim to be a Southerner had in it something of the factitious. Although it is true that he lived in Virginia and Georgia until he was in his late 20's, he had no Southern ancestry, and he resided in the North for the balance of his life.'' But surely someone who lives in a single region until he is nearly 30 is a product of that region. ''He used to say,'' Auchincloss notes, ''that the South was the only part of the country where nothing had to be explained to him.'' Indeed, Wilson was the first Southerner to be elected president since the Civil War, and he started a trend: if Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson are considered Southerners, then five of seven Democratic presidents in the 20th century came from the South. After an abortive start in the legal profession, Wilson attended graduate school at Johns Hopkins and taught history and political science at Bryn Mawr, Wesleyan and, beginning in 1890, at Princeton, his undergraduate alma mater. While battling snobbery among students and alumni as president of Princeton and publishing an impressive number of articles and books, including the acclaimed ''Congressional Government'' (1885), Wilson dreamed of influencing public affairs. Auchincloss, who has written about early modern France, observes, ''His precedent is more to be found in Europe than in America, more in the example of some young priest like the 17th-century Richelieu dreaming in the cloister of how he might take over the power of the state from the clumsy military minds that had ruled it so long.'' If Auchincloss knew the South better, he would recognize Wilson as an example of a kind that also includes Thomas Jefferson and John C. Calhoun: the Ciceronian humanist who moves with ease between politics, philosophy, journalism and literature, a type that survived in the provincial South for generations after specialization destroyed its habitats in Britain and the American North. Media Covers for Candidate Gore -- http://www.egroups.com/group/cemb Not that anyone should expect anything other than sheer unadulterated inside-the-beltway spin, the former-Bill Bradley loving Washington Post (see previous Coalition to End Media Bias/CEMB -- http://www.egroups.com/group/cemb -- postings re Bradley/Post obsession) has once again hit a home run in its support of Democrat presidential candidate Al Gore. In a April 9, 34-graph story (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A39992-2000Apr8.html), cleverly entitled "Voters Grade Gore Make-Over As Incomplete," the positives, which includes the Post's very own home brand of spinning, clearly outweigh the negatives against Gore. With only one Republican quoted, along with a voter who "liked Sen. John McCain" (a maverick Republican), this most recent Post piece does nothing but offer Gore's "campaign officials," "media advisors" and an assorted of other Gore supporters free publicity. Similarly, positive quotes came from folks described as "one strategist," and "former consultants." For a newspaper that had supported Bradley all throughout the "rough and tough" Democratic primary (see previous CEMB postings re Bradley/Post obsession), its settled on Gore simply because a liberal paper like the Post can't bare to see Republican George W. Bush elected the next President. The Post's editorials are simply one indicator of its own collective beliefs. And, its rash of "press release"-type articles on Gore are another. (With a majority of the media voting for Clinton in 1992 it's not surprising how the media leans.) Interestingly, the Post piece makes no mention of the many Gore-isms that have plagued the vice-president since he took office back in 1992. And, considering that one-time reporter Gore hasn't held a news conference in more than six weeks, few should expect any explanations from Gore himself any time soon. Most notable was his flip flop on tobacco, when in 1988, the February 26 issue of Newsday quoted Gore telling tobacco farmers: "Throughout most of my life, I raised tobacco. I want you to know that with my own hands, all of my life, I put it in the plant beds and transferred it. I've hoed it, I've dug in it, I've sprayed it, I've chopped it, I've shredded it, spiked it, put it in the barn and stripped it and sold it." (Incidentally, Gore made this statement almost four years after his sister's death from lung cancer and over six years before his anti-tobacco speech at the Democratic national convention.) The tobacco flop? For the period 1979 through 1990, the August 30 Post reported that Gore accepted $16,440 from tobacco political action committees. And, at the Democrat National Convention of 1996, what did Gore say about tobacco? "Tomorrow morning another 13-year-old girl will start smoking. I love her, too. Three thousand young people in America will start smoking tomorrow. One thousand of them will die a death not unlike my sister's. And that is why, until I draw my last breath, I will pour my heart and soul into the cause of protecting our children from the dangers of smoking." Then there are the Gore-isms on guns. According to National Rifle Association, Key Vote Analyses (1985-1992), between 1985 and 1990, Sen. Al Gore voted with the NRA 75% of the time. But, in July of 1999, the The Atlanta Journal and Constitution has Gore proclaiming that, "In this presidential race, there are some who believe the urgent matter related to guns is the need to extend new protections to the gun manufacturers. I believe it is time to have new protections for our children and our families. . . . Some want more concealed weapons, but they can't conceal the fact that they are doing the bidding of the NRA." Huh? Would the Post have reported all these gaffes in their story had the topic been former vice president Dan Quayle? Probably. Just go back to the Post archives and take a look at their reporting of Dan Quayle. Any stories about him that did not mention an alleged Quayle-ism of some sort? There are more Gore-isms that Post reporters John Harris and Ceci Connolly, both of whom penned this piece, failed to include in their "hard-hitting analysis" of candidate Gore. That is, besides those "mini-Gore-isms" in which the Democrat candidate for the highest office in the land claims to have invented the Internet. On the abortion issue, in a 1984 letter to a constituent, Gore, then a member of the House of Representative, wrote, "It is my deep personal conviction that abortion is wrong. I hope that some day we will see the current outrageously large number of abortions drop sharply. . . . Let me assure you that I share your belief that innocent human life must be protected. . ." Gore continues, "As you know, I have strongly opposed federal funding of abortions. In my opinion, it is wrong to spend federal funds for what is arguably the taking of a human life." The secret science of Masonic, Roman and Babylonian symbology figures prominently. The semiotics of cabalistic signs as well as Sumerian iconography also points to a subliminal influence which has been virtually ignored by mainstream historians. Tupper Saussy's "Rulers of Evil" is a well-honed and highly readable account of the hidden history of America. In great detail, the author circumscribes the influence of the Roman Catholic Church and its Jesuit cadres in promoting the governance of the Church Militant and the US Federal Government -- both of which he equates with the proscribed rulership by those bearing the Mark of Cain. Well-versed in the nuances of Jesuitic and specious reasoning, Tupper Saussy maintains that American history has been dominated by the subrosa machinations of the Jesuits. Furthermore, he contends that their behind the scenes manipulations have resulted in the government we deserve. For instance, Saussy points out that the result of the Dred Scott decision, which was supposed to abolish slavery, actually did the opposite. "First slavery was abolished by the Thirteenth Amendment (1865)," Saussy writes. "Then the Fourteenth Amendment (1868) created a new national citizenship. Unlike State citizenship, which was denied to Negroes, national citizenship was available to anyone as long as they subjected themselves to the jurisdiction of the United States -- that is to the Federal Government, whose seat is the District of Columbia, 'Rome.'" "What is so remarkably jesuitic about the scheme that proceeded out of Roger Taney's opinion [Taney was US Supreme Court Chief Justice who wrote it] is that slavery was sustained by the very amendment that supposedly abolished it. Amendment Thirteen provides for the abolition of 'involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.'" Saussy contends that, "In our time the federally regulated communications media, with their continually exciting celebration of violence and drug-use, have subtly but vigorously induced youthful audiences to play on the minefield of complementary criminal statutes. The fruit of this collaboration is a burgeoning national prison population of men and women enslaved constitutionally. American slavery has become a permanent institution." In describing the origins of the Society of Jesus founded by Ignatius Loyola, Saussy delves into the organization's militaristic nature, its extreme oath of obedience (which he reproduces in the book from a Library of Congress document), and the cabalistic significance of their rituals and methodology. Jesuit casuistry, writes Saussy, is known as "the process of applying moral principles falsely in deciding the rights or wrongs of a case -- the word 'casuistry' comes from 'cases.' WWWebster [the online dictionary] equates casuistry with rationalization, 'to cause something to seem reasonable; to provide plausible but untrue reasons for conduct.' (In early 1999, President Clinton's biographer, David Maraniss, could be seen remarking on talkshows that the President owed his formidable skills as a criminal defendant to 'his training in casuistry at Georgetown University')." Georgetown, of course, is the preeminent Jesuit school, still administered by the Society of Jesus and the foremost educator of US federal policymakers and bureaucrats. "The great Jesuit casuist Antonio Escobar pardoned evildoers as long as it was committed in pursuit of a lofty goal," continues Saussy. "Purity of intention, he declared in 1627, may justify actions which are contrary to moral code and to human laws." Thus, Jesuit "logic" remains the foundation for rationalizing morally repugnant and ethically questionable behavior in today's society. "Hermann Busenbaum ratified Escobar with his own famous maxim, "Cum finis est licitus, etiam media sunt licita." If the end is legal, the means are legal. Escobar and Busenbaum boil down to the essential doctrine of terrorism: The ends justify the means." State terrorism, of course, is not excluded from this dictum. During the American Revolution, the Superior General of Jesuitism (also called the Black Pope) was Lorenzo Ricci -- pronounced "Richey". Saussey credits him with translating the most celebrated treatise on war ever published, Joseph Marie Amiot's "SunTzu" usually called "The Art of War." The subject women have an addiction of power over the male. They use their sexual attractiveness to snare, then seduce the male. A woman who becomes an alcoholic has learned that alcohol is a means to attract the male; especially if the woman is not physically attractive. If, in the act intercourse, the woman becomes pregnant, it is of no consequence to her to have an abortion; but merely an inconvenient cost of fulfilling her warped desire/addiction to power over the male. This type of female would have been most definitely brought up in a dysfunctional family; either a single mom, or a two parent family where the female has turned the male into a wimp, with the consequence that the offspring has no respect for the Father figure; the young daughter learning how her Mother wraps her Father around her little finger. In cases where the parents are not dysfunctional it is more than likely the subject woman would have sustained sexual abuse by an outsider at an early age; sometime the 'loving' Father will sexually abuse the young daughter. From: The Detroit News More Implant Injustice The federal government is suing for a cut of the multibillion-dollar fund established to settle breast-implant claims . Reimbursement supposedly is due Medicare and other federally funded health care programs for treatment of implant-related disorders. In reality, this is yet another corporate shakedown by the Clinton administration. The lawsuit filed March 31 by the Justice Department seeks to halt settlement payments to thousands of women until federal expenditures are first recovered. A Justice spokesman said millions of dollars are owed, but acknowledged that no actual accounting has been conducted. In a similar vein, the government also is delaying the emergence of Michigan-based Dow Corning Corp. from bankruptcy protection. Justice Department attorneys have filed objections to the companys court-approved reorganization plan, which commits $3.2 billion to settle tens of thousands of implant claims that forced Dow Cornings Chapter 11 filing. The government insists that Dow Corning first determine which claimants received federally financed medical care. Two federal statutes the Medical Care Recovery Act and the Medicare Secondary Payer Law allow the government to sue for reimbursement when a third party is deemed liable for the medical conditions requiring treatment. But a slew of research including the governments own has consistently failed to establish any link between silicone breast implants and the myriad disorders cited by claimants. "There is a sense among some voters that she's not fitting in' in New York," said one Giuliani aide. A survey last month by Marist College showed 50 percent of those questioned said they are "concerned" about Clinton not being from New York, including 31 percent who call themselves "greatly" bothered by it. The figure is virtually unchanged from last July -- when campaigning started. Among key independent voters and those who have yet to make up their mind about a candidate, concern over Clinton's carpetbagging is even higher (up to 57 percent) than with other voters. "If it's independents and they are worried about it, she's got problems," said Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science at Syracuse University. Brooklyn-born Giuliani does his best to fan the issue, often mocking Clinton's upbringing in Illinois, life in Arkansas, and ties to Washington, D.C. He tossed some darts about Clinton and the Chicago Cubs last week during a campaign bus ride with Sen. John McCain on Long Island. Speaking recently to the Civil Service Employees Association in Syracuse, Clinton was blunt about it -- and she offered a new twist in an effort to turn the lingering resentment to her benefit. "I know there may be some people you see in church or down the supermarket aisle or back at work who are going to say, Why did the CSEA endorse her? You know, she didn't grow up here. She's not from here. What does she know about us?'" Clinton told several hundred union members. Clinton finished by telling supporters they should let any doubters know she will be a "zealot" for New York, working even harder, like an adopted child or a religious convert does -- a description she hadn't used before. Clinton's allies and some experts believe her carpetbagger status will not be decisive in November. They said the first lady is smart to raise the issue herself, favorably comparing her open handling of it to the way John F. Kennedy dealt with being a Catholic when he was running for president in 1960. "I can't imagine people would choose a senator based on such a simplistic issue," said Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli (D-Nassau), the county Democratic chairman and Clinton backer. "By the end of the campaign, a lot of people may say, Gee, it would be nice if she'd been born in Mineola, but we'll vote for her anyway.'" ### P.S.
