Swindle Is Reported to Use the Name of Roger Clinton

By NEIL A. LEWIS

ASHINGTON, March 9 ó Federal prosecutors are investigating
complaints from several people who say they were swindled by two
Arkansas businessman who claimed they were partners with Roger
Clinton, the former president's half- brother, and could deliver
pardons and business deals, law enforcement officials and lawyers
said today.

One Texas man, Guy H. Lincecum, said he and his mother paid
$235,000 to the Arkansas businessmen, Dickey Morton and George
Locke, for a pardon for his brother but never received one. The
checks from Mr. Lincecum and his mother, Alberta, were deposited
in the Arkansas account of a company called C.L.M. Mr. Lincecum
said he was told by Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton that the company's
initials stood for Clinton, Locke and Morton.

Roger Clinton said through a spokeswoman today that though he
knew Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton, he never heard of C.L.M. and had
never authorized either man to use his name in any way. In fact,
all those who said they dealt with Mr. Morton and Mr. Locke said
that while they believed their assertions that Mr. Clinton was
their partner, they never saw nor spoke to Mr. Clinton.

In addition to the Lincecums, three other people said in
interviews that they were approached by Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton
and invited to invest in business ventures with the lure that
they were partners with Roger Clinton and that the association
would guarantee success.

Federal investigators are trying to determine whether Mr. Locke
and Mr. Morton were using Roger Clinton's name without his
permission to swindle people. The only name on the Arkansas
incorporation papers of C.L.M. is that of Mr. Morton.

All four parties who met with Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton said the
pair acted strangely when they asked to meet Mr. Clinton. Mr.
Locke and Mr. Morton did not return telephone calls to their
homes. Reed Harrod, Mr. Morton's lawyer, did not return calls to
his office in Hamburg, Ark.

Roger Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton's two brothers have been
embroiled in controversy over their efforts to obtain
presidential pardons for friends and clients. But investigators
have found evidence to suggest that in the cases involving Mr.
Locke and Mr. Morton, Roger Clinton may have had his name used
unknowingly.

One businessman, R. V. Wilson of Mississippi, recounted in an
interview how his requests to meet Roger Clinton were never
fulfilled. He said that when he went to Little Rock to discuss
business with Mr. Morton and Mr. Locke in June 1999, they
repeatedly promised that Roger Clinton was about to come by and
introduce himself. But each time, he said, they made some excuse
as to why he did not appear.

Mr. Wilson said he met with Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton in a Little
Rock hotel to discuss importing building materials from China. He
said that when he asked where Roger Clinton was, "they told me he
was playing golf right now in Hope," a town about two hours away.
Mr. Wilson said the pair seemed to be talking to Roger Clinton on
a cell phone, though they never handed it to him.

He said he spent the night in Little Rock only to be told that
evening that Roger Clinton was too intoxicated to drive. The next
day he was told that Mr. Clinton was back on the golf course. He
left without investing. He was the only one of the four parties
who did not give the pair money.

Mr. Lincecum's lawyer, Edward W. Hayes of New York, said his
client had paid Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton $235,000 to obtain a
pardon for his brother, Garland H. Lincecum, who is serving time
in Texas for fraud.

Robert S. Bronson of Queens, a Lincecum family friend, gave this
account on their behalf. He said Guy Lincecum met with Mr. Locke
and Mr. Morton in Little Rock beginning in 1998, turning over two
checks: a $100,000 cashier's check from his mother and a check on
his own pension account that was paid into the account of C.L.M.,
a company incorporated in Arkansas. The account was at the First
National Bank of Crossett, Ark. Mr. Bronson produced copies of
the canceled checks.

"When Guy asked them when he would get the pardon for his
brother, these two guys pick up a book and look through it and
say `I think Clinton will do it in the third quarter,' " Mr.
Bronson said. Mr. Bronson said Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton used
Roger Clinton's name freely.

Mr. Hayes, the Lincecums' lawyer, confirmed the account but said
he could not comment further because federal prosecutors in New
York had asked him not to say more.

The other two businessmen who felt they were swindled in the
building materials deal asked that their names not be used, but
similarly said that when they had asked to meet with Roger
Clinton, their requests were always met with excuses. One said
Mr. Locke and Mr. Morton had showed him a photo of them with
Roger Clinton.

Roger Clinton has said that he asked his

Questions for Barak

Congress wants information from the outgoing Israeli prime minister.

National Review Online
March 6, 2001 7:00 p.m.
By ByronYork

House Government Reform Committee investigators will soon send a
list of written questions to outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud
Barak as part of their expanding investigation into the
presidential pardon scandal, according to congressional sources.

Committee lawyers want to learn how — and how many times — Barak
appealed to President Bill Clinton on behalf of fugitive
tax-evader Marc Rich. Appearing before the committee last week,
three top Clinton administration officials — former White House
chief of staff John Podesta, former White House counsel Beth
Nolan, and Clinton confidant Bruce Lindsey — testified that a
call from Barak to Clinton on the afternoon of January 19 was a
key factor in Clinton's decision to pardon Rich. "While the bulk
of that call concerned the situation in the Middle East," Podesta
testified, "Prime Minister Barak raised the Rich matter at the
end and asked the president once again to consider the Rich
pardon."

All three witnesses said that before Barak's call, they believed
Clinton would not pardon Rich. After Barak's call, they said,
Clinton appeared to change his mind. "It certainly seemed that he
[Clinton] was not going to grant it [the pardon], and then that
Mr. Barak's phone call had been significant," Nolan testified.

Podesta, Nolan, and Lindsey also said Barak's call on the 19th
was not the first time the Israeli prime minister discussed the
Rich case with the president. "I'm certain that it came up prior
to January 19," John Podesta testified. "I think it may have been
three times that he [Barak] raised it."

Lindsey told the committee that Clinton said Barak's call was
"the third time at least that Barak had mentioned it to him." "I
thought he said fourth," Nolan added.

Their testimony conflicts with a report Sunday in the Jerusalem
Post, which said Barak maintains he brought the Rich case up with
Clinton just once. "The prime minister made one call and the
matter was only raised at the end of the phone call," the Post
quoted a source inside the prime minister's office. "It is
obvious that a marginal telephone mention did not play a deciding
role in the granting of the pardon. Even if it is convenient to
say so, it is untrue."

In addition, there is evidence to suggest that whatever Barak
said to Clinton on the 19th, the president had already made up
his mind to pardon Rich. Three weeks ago, investigators released
a January 10, 2001 e-mail from a close associate of Rich's to
Jack Quinn, the former White House counsel who represented Rich
in the pardon matter. The e-mail said Clinton had called top
Democratic fundraiser Beth Dozoretz and discussed the Rich case
with her. Clinton, according to the e-mail, "wants to do it
[grant the pardon] and is doing all possible to turn around the
WH counsels."

That leaves investigators with several questions. Did Clinton and
Barak speak about Rich on several occasions, as Clinton contends,
or just once, as Barak apparently believes? If they spoke just
one time, why would Clinton tell his top aides that he and the
prime minister had discussed the matter at least three, and
perhaps four, times? Finally, and most importantly, if the two
men spoke about Rich just once, on the 19th, and Clinton had made
up his mind well before then — at least by January 10, the date
of the e-mail — why did Clinton's top aides testify that Barak's
call had been so important to the pardon decision?

Investigators believe Barak can help them begin to answer those
and other questions. Late Tuesday afternoon, committee chairman
Dan Burton okayed the proposal to contact Barak, who leaves
office Wednesday. Committee lawyers plan to send written
questions to Barak within the next few days.

[CTRL] NM: Pardongater Dozoretz Fund Raising for Andrew Cuomo?

Pardongater Dozoretz Fund Raising for Andrew Cuomo?

If what Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed reports Tuesday
is true, stonewalling congressional Pardongate probers hasn't put
a crimp in Clinton fund-raiser Beth Dozoretz's style.

"Word is Beth Dozoretz, Denise Rich's pal and frequent White
House visitor, was phoning CEOs last week drumming up cash for
Andrew Cuomo's run for governor ...," Sneed reveals without
elaboration.

If indeed the longtime Clinton fund-raiser has jumped on Cuomo's
bandwagon, it could signal that the Clintons themselves will
eventually wind up in his corner as well.

That would no doubt disappoint more than a few of the Clintons'
African-American supporters, who hoped to see fellow Democrat,
state Comptroller Carl McCall, become New York's first black
governor.

Last week McCall told WABC radio's Steve Malzberg that he
expected Democratic leaders to return the loyalty of the party's
most reliable constituency by backing him against Cuomo.

presidential pardons. We don't need presidents with the ability to pardon
away the investigations that would send them to jail for treason--the very
thing that George Bush the Elder did. Governors should have pardon ability,
but presidents should not. I had forgotten about Nixon pardoning Jimmy
Hoffa. We just don't need presidents to be able to do that. Prudy

[CTRL] Another Fatal Raid

2001-03-10 Thread Prudence L. Kuhn

-Caveat Lector-

This is not a forfeiture case, but it has related search seizure
issues

Government to unveil new details of fatal ATF raid
CATHY FRYE
ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

The federal government has agreed to release a more detailed account of
the
events leading to an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Bureau raid that left
a
man dead in his bedroom.
Carl Wilson, 60, was killed in a shootout with federal authorities
when
they arrived before dawn on Jan. 12 at his rural Faulkner County home.
They
were searching for an old Winchester rifle.
The documents explaining why the ATF wanted the gun have remained
sealed
in federal court. The Democrat-Gazette filed a motion Feb. 15, asking
that
the case file be made public. The government initially objected to the
newspaper's request.
But at a hearing before U.S. Magistrate J. Thomas Ray on Friday,
prosecutors agreed to unseal the documents. However, they want to
redact, or
"black out," portions of the file beforehand, saying witnesses and
informants need to be protected.
The judge's ruling, expected next week, will likely challenge the
constitutionality of the way in which search-and-seizure warrants are
handled in the Eastern District of Arkansas. It could eliminate the
automatic sealing of all warrants and accompanying documents, and
instead
require a specific request from prosecutors to keep the paperwork from
public view.
At Friday's hearing, attorneys haggled not only over the Wilson case
but
also the First Amendment versus search warrants -- namely, how much
information should remain secret and why.
"We are an open society," said lawyer Jess Askew, who is
representing
the Democrat-Gazette. "As Justice [Warren] Burger has said, 'People in
an
open society do not demand infallibility from their institutions, but it
is
difficult for them to accept what they are prohibited from observing.'"
U.S. prosecutor Michael Johnson, citing concerns about the names of
witnesses that appear in some of the sealed documents, countered the
newspaper's argument: "The First Amendment is not the sole societal
interest
at stake here."
The current debate over the secretive manner in which search
warrants
are obtained and filed in court emerged from what happened in the early
morning darkness when ATF agents carried out a surprise raid at Wilson's
home.
They were looking for a .30-.30 Winchester rifle, model 94, serial
number NRA 8315.
Wilson's widow, Tammy, wants to know why her husband was being
investigated. And how, she asks, did the raid turn deadly? Much to her
anger, the answers have remained secret.
Until Friday, the only items that had been unsealed were the search
warrant and an inventory of what was seized at the Wilson home. Both of
those documents had been given to the family at the time of the raid.
Friday, the court unsealed two more documents -- the Jan. 10
application
for the search warrant and an exhibit, which was an aerial photograph of

Wilson's isolated home.
Still sealed, however, is the probable-cause affidavit, which would
explain what kind of investigation the ATF was conducting and why a
no-knock
raid was necessary.
No-knock raids allow officers to enter a home without announcing
themselves. The Wilson raid was to occur "in the daytime," according to
the
warrant. Federal law defines "daytime" as between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
ATF agents raided Wilson's home at 6:30 a.m. Sunrise that day was
around
7:15 a.m.
In documents filed with the court, the Democrat-Gazette argues:
"A man was shot and killed in his own bedroom by state and federal
authorities with a federal search warrant, and the press wants to know
why
the authorities were there. The government seeks to conceal this
information. In doing so, the government seeks to avoid accounting to
the
people for its conduct in this most unfortunate episode.
"By failing to account, the government engenders dark suspicions
about
its conduct."
In its initial response to the newspaper's motion, the government
argued
that unsealing the case file would compromise confidential information
related to the investigation and make public the names of witnesses
involved
in the ATF investigation.
They also cited an ongoing investigation into the shootout by state
police, arguing that this unfinished inquiry should be grounds for
keeping
the documents sealed.
The judge said Friday, however, that the state police investigation
has
no bearing on whether the case file should be made public.
Although prosecutors are withdrawing their objections to unseal the
file, they want the names of witnesses and any information that would
identify those witnesses blacked out before the documents are made
public.
The importance of these witnesses is unclear. Authorities have said
their investigation of Wilson ended with his death and that no one else
will
be charged in the case.
Prosecutors' reasons for requesting that portions of the documents

Triumph of (George) Will: When Media Might Makes Right

   By Norman Solomon

A skeleton is rattling in George Will's closet. But it's difficult to
hear above the steady applause from his elite boosters inside the
   media business.

Widely viewed as one of the nation's most influential journalists,
Will churns out syndicated columns that appear in hundreds of daily
papers. He also writes for Newsweek. And he's a regular on ABC's "This
Week." He is definitely outspoken -- but don't expect him to speak out
about the fact that Juanita Yvette Lozano now faces up to 15 years in
   prison.

"A woman who worked for a media company that produced ads for
President George W. Bush's campaign was indicted for secretly mailing
a videotape of Bush practicing for a debate to Vice President Al
Gore's campaign," an Associated Press story explained the other day.
Accompanying the 60-minute video were about 120 pages of the Bush
team's confidential material for debate preparation.

Ordinarily, such a transgression might cause Will to express his
law-and-order zeal in no uncertain terms. But it's understandable that
he isn't eager to weigh in when the subject is theft of debate prep
documents. The circumstances of the incident last fall were far less
egregious than what happened -- with Will's active participation -- in
   1980.

Six months ago, when Gore campaign adviser Tom Downey received a
package containing the Bush campaign material prior to the first
debate, he immediately turned it over to the FBI. In sharp contrast,
20 years earlier, top operatives in Ronald Reagan's presidential
campaign pored through Jimmy Carter's lengthy briefing book swiped
from the White House. Back then, behind the scenes, Will was part of
the effort to make the most of the illegally obtained papers.

Will looked at the Carter briefing materials and then helped coach
Reagan for a crucial debate with Carter. Promptly after the debate,
Will went on "Nightline" to praise Reagan for a "thoroughbred
performance." Viewers had no way to know of Will's involvement in
   prepping Reagan for the debate.

For years, Will was able to cover up the deception. But in mid-1983,
the "Debategate" story finally broke, and he took some flak.

At first, Newsweek merely mentioned in passing that Will had been
shown the stolen briefing book "and thought nothing of it." A week
later, devoting several sentences to the intrigue of its star
columnist, the magazine reported that he "saw the Carter materials"
and later helped to prepare Reagan "for his confrontation with Carter.
Then, in his role as television commentator, Will gave Reagan a
favorable review for his performance -- without explaining that he had
personally taken part in the event."

During the summer of 1983, various media pillars rumbled with
disapproval. As Newsweek observed, "some of Will's fellow journalists
have heatedly criticized his partisan role. Jack Nelson, Washington
bureau chief for the Los Angeles Times, called it 'outrageous.'"

The New Republic declared Will to be "the one person who has been most
embarrassed by Debategate" and faulted him for two aspects of his
behavior: "Appearing on ABC's 'Nightline' the night of the debate, Mr.
Will was one of the commentators who awarded the 'victory' to Mr.
Reagan; he posed as a referee without ever making it clear that he had
been one of the seconds." In addition, the columnist "knew about the
purloined briefing books" but kept the knowledge to himself. "Mr. Will
said nothing about this on 'Nightline'; nor did he write about it."

Perhaps a bit taken aback by the uproar, Will devoted a Washington
Post column to his own defense. In essence, Time magazine noted, "Will
said he was glad he had done what he had done, but would not do it
   again."

The controversy blew over. And in retrospect, Will's prominence in
Debategate probably helped rather than hurt his career. The incident
certified that he was a power player at the highest reaches of
   presidential politics.

Nearly three years after his stealth role in the Carter-Reagan debates
came to light, a front-page Los Angeles Times profile called Will "the
pre-eminent American political commentator." When the story briefly
touched on Debategate and quoted Will, the tone was far from
apologetic: "I simply reject the idea that I misled anyone. It wasn't
a state secret who I was for."

But George Will knew that those Carter briefing papers were stolen. He
made use of them. And he kept mum for as long as he could.

On the day after Lozano's indictment, I requested a statement from
Will about the criminal charges against her -- or about his own role
   in the Carter briefing-book

Have you really heard Bush condemn Clinton - no he wants to move on, and

Why did the Mossad get away with tapping Clinton's telephone through

Franks turns on him? Clinton said "nigger" and like Byrd using same --
Byrd was old Klansman while Clinton worshipped the ground upon which
Jesse Jackson and his "followers" walked for Hill and Bill got the
Jewish vote and the black vote - and then Gore?

Gore did not get the Jewish vote - Joe Liebrman did - for Holy Joe was
to be President for this is the big take over and Gore could not
deliver...Clinton must be killed off now figurative and literally -
people must be taught to hate him and soon Morris Dees or ADL will put
him on a hate list while Hilliary distances herself further and further
away from him - people so eager now to go for the jugular?

Clinton was doing okay until little Monica - he would not blow the hell
out of the Persian Gulf but chose maybe - well put it this way, Remember
the USS Liberty and the USS Cole and maybe this great ship Greenville
was attacked by a Japanese Doomsday Cult or who and what in disguise?

Fee of Clay - Clinton got away with this stuff for so long for he was
"protected" and NWO who made this man piece by piece along with Ehud
Barak aka Brug, this Blair - these leaders all sang out of same
songbook?

The King is dead - Long Live the KingCamelot is Dead - Long live
this bunch of parasites who believe they have replaced it?

Joe Lieberman is now a gentleman in waiting - no doubt in my mind he
would have been president within a year if Gore had been elected for all
things are now ready for the takeover - the sell-out - big bucks
controlled by a handful of people who are not payng their taxes - funny
they usually get into the hotel business like thee Bilderbergers - the
building trades also come with demolition crews and this is what is
happening to America.

Everying decent in this country is being destroyed and this nation of
sheep sit back and watch for its show time - they cannot now tell
reality from fantasy, running around half doped up - now in movies bang,
dead man walks away but at our schools, bang and kids do not get back up
-

If Clinton writes a book - he better be careful of who and what the
publisher is for the Mafia this Jewish Mafia took over the 5 major
publishing houses in 1970 period - they control the news media and they
make or break - they think

Holy Joe Lieberman, holder of duel citizenship which means duel
loyalties - somehow escapes criticismhe prepares to run for
President.and big bucks will be behind him but this Marc Rich cut
down Clinton good.

For Clinton to be surrounded with such loyalty - he gets weaker every
day - if Clinton is to be punished unofficially, it would seem
censorship by the press would suffice - as the Senate and House censor
at times - old Union tactics, the shunning .secret society stuff.

Clinton and Gore were so spaced out these past 8 years they do not know
what hit them - both are lucky to still be alive.

Or was murder of JFK, RFK, MLK, shooting of Wallace and Reagan, just a
bad dream?

Want your country back - get that Hollywood scum out that have been
pushing sodomy and Rosie O'Donnell ( now she sings songs from the
Flintstones but has a broken hand? Could not stand to watch this show
long enough to find out how this happened - but I kept thinking of this
10th Psalm which Catholics took out of their psalms - "break thou the
arm of the wicked man (or woman?? equal rights).

So such is life in As the Stomach Churns or Turns.note neither
political party is any good now - notice how carefully each have been

Land protections face rollback
By Mike Soraghan
Denver Post Washington Bureau

Mar. 9, 2001 - WASHINGTON - Interior Secretary Gale Norton said she will roll
back some of the land protections at Western monuments created by President
Clinton if the sites' neighbors want changes.

Norton said she'll work work with communities around the monuments, which
have complained that they would like more mining, grazing and off-road uses
now off-limits.

"We're doing things in reverse - we're trying to resolve the problems after
the monuments were created," Norton said Thursday. "We try to tailor things
to existing uses and to what makes sense for the local community."

Her stance is likely to bolster her standing with conservatives, coming out
the same day she announced that a mining industry lobbyist will be her top
deputy and just minutes after taking a slap at her critics in the
environmental community, accusing them in a speech of campaigning against her
nomination to "fill their fund-raising coffers."

Her comments Thursday were the fullest explanation she has given of what she
plans to do about the monuments, and a reverse of what has been reported in
some national newspapers.

Norton's monument plan parallels the slow, cautious approach taken by other
Republicans left seething by Clinton's drive for a lands legacy but mindful
that it was popular with the public.

But environmentalists accuse her of mounting a "backdoor"

campaign to reverse the protections Clinton imposed.

"I think the Bush administration recognizes their public lands agenda is not
popular," said Melanie Griffin of the Sierra Club. "I think they'll be trying
to pursue it quietly."

Clinton designated 21 monuments, many in his last year, imposing protections
on millions of acres he said were threatened by development, tourism or
industry. Westerners howled about the loss of access to the land. Among those
monuments was Canyons of the Ancients, 164,000 acres of mesas, canyons and
ancient Indian ruins in southwestern Colorado near Mesa Verde National Park.

Norton, formerly Colorado's attorney general, has criticized the way Clinton
created the monuments, saying he did not consult with the Westerners affected
by the new restrictions on the land. But she has shied away from a frontal
assault on Clinton's "lands legacy,"

saying she hasn't heard direct calls for repealing the monuments.

House Resources Committee Chairman Jim Hansen, the Utah Republican who has
been the leading critic of the monuments, is working on a similar plan.
Hansen acknowledges that "no one is going to see a wholesale rolling back of
these monuments," but he has solicited ideas from lawmakers about how
Congress could change them.

Conservatives welcomed the plan, calling it a return to sanity.

"If Norton's talking about restoring the uses that were there before the
monument designations, that's good news," said Mike Hardiman, lobbyist for
the American Land Rights Association, a propertyrights group. "You're looking
at restoring the recreational access."

At Colorado's only new monument, so many uses already are allowed that any
changes would negate everything Clinton did, said one of the
environmentalists who lobbied to create it.

"I don't know how you could roll back any of the protections and not just
unravel the whole monument,"

said Jeff Widen of the Colorado Environmental Coalition, who lobbied for the
monument near Cortez.

It's not entirely clear what authority Norton would have to alter the
monuments. Some say the authority is spelled out in the Antiquities Act of
1906, the law Clinton used to declare the monuments. Some think President
Bush could just reverse them, while other say it would take a lawsuit.

What is clear is that the management plans, the detailed rule books of what
is and isn't allowed in the monuments, have not yet been written. The
employees who will be writing them now work for Norton, not Clinton's
interior secretary, Bruce Babbitt.

Eurofile: EU suppression of criticism smacks of fascism
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

THE European Court of Justice changed the political climate profoundly
this week by ruling that the European Union can suppress criticism to
protect its reputation.

Keith Vaz, the Europe minister, dismissed the matter as a minor staff
case involving Bernard Connolly, the British whistleblower, with no
implications for ordinary EU citizens. But Mr Vaz mixes up two
separate cases. One is a staff case, the other is a free speech case
going far beyond the issue of whether Connolly broke his contract at the
European Commission by writing The Rotten Heart of Europe.

The court ruled that the Commission could restrict criticism that
damaged "the institution's image and reputation", and that it could do so
by resorting to a legal device used by fascist governments to suppress
dissent in the 1920s and 1930s: "the protection of the rights of others".
This ECJ ruling defies half a century of case law by Europe's other
court, the non-EU Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, as well as
resurrecting the ancient offence of "seditious libel" banned by the House
of Lords.

The Human Rights Court has ruled repeatedly that governing bodies
may not restrict criticism in such a way. Specifically, the term
"protection of the rights of others" does not apply to public bodies. Last
week's ruling shows that the ECJ (despite paying lip-service) does not
consider itself bound by the European Convention on Human Rights,
drafted by British lawyers after the Second World War to safeguard
liberty in Europe.

This is an extremely serious development because the EU's new
Charter of Fundamental Rights extends the ECJ's competence into the
area of civil liberties, transforming it from a commercial court dealing
with single market issues to a full-fledged supreme court. The ECJ has
already begun referring to the charter in its rulings, demolishing the
British government's pretence that the document has no more legal
status than "the Beano".

The door could be soon be open for the ECJ to start ruling on free
speech cases involving ordinary EU citizens, or indeed involving Euro-
sceptic newspapers. We now have two rival sets of European rights law,
overseen by rival courts with very different views of civil liberty: the ECJ
and the charter on one side, set against the Human Rights Court and
the convention on the other. The battle is just beginning.

Have you been wondering why the Japanese 'fishing' vessel
was in the US submarine training area? Have you wondered what the
Japanese were actually 'fishing' for and what they had in the way of
equipment inside and outside the Ehime Maru's hull?
Robert D. Morningstar has written a piece on just these
questions and what he has arrived at may change some opinions among

The primary question for investigators is "What was the Ehime Maru,

vessels, doing in a U.S. military operations area warning zone?

NOTE:
The author completed additional research and suggests readers visit an
ATTACHED PAGE of this assessment for his findings.

Many Questions To Be Answered
The tragic events which occurred off Hawaii on February 9th, 2001,
involving a collision between the attack submarine, U.S.S. Greenville,
and a Japanese fishing vessel, the Ehime Maru, are a signal event in
U.S.-Japanese relations. Although the media has already leaped to a
foregone conclusion of criminal negligence on the part of the captain,
crew and passengers of the U.S.S. Greenville, many questions remain
regarding the sinking of the Ehime Maru.

The primary question for this investigator is "What was the Ehime Maru,
one of the world's most advanced (and 'stealthy") high tech fishing
vessels, doing in a U.S. military operations area warning zone bearing
down at top speed on a submerged U.S. Navy attack sub?"

Piranha Attack By Media

The piranha-like attack of the press and news media on the captain,
Commander Scott Waddle, the crew of the U.S.S. Greenville, and a group
of civilians aboard the sub, members of the U.S.S. Missouri Memorial
Association, was so vicious, slanted and one-sided that I felt compelled
to communicate my concerns about fairness and due process to the
National Transportation Board. I brought to the attention of the NTSB
important information regarding the Ehime Maru.

Subject: Submarine-Fishing Boat Collision
Dear Sir:

I'm writing in regard to the recent accident which occurred off Hawaii
recently and which is the subject of a current NTSB investigation. I
really hate it when the Navy makes a captain swing in the wind to save
face in international politics.

On behalf of Commander Waddle getting a "fair shake", I would like to
point out that the Japanese government often disguises spying operations
and RD operations as "fishing explorations" or student projects. The
development of stealth technology at sea is not unheard of in our day
and age. The fishing vessel could very easily have been "stalking" the
submarine. Was it really correct for the Japanese fishing vessel, an
advanced oceanic laboratory, to be operating in a U.S. Navy military
operations area warning zone?

However, the major point I am going to make is in regard to the type of
propeller on the fishing vessel. If this propeller was milled using an
advanced propeller milling technology, which our country shared with the
Japanese in the 1980's, it is possible that the frequency produced by
such a propeller could be stealthily quiet. Furthermore, if its
frequency was a harmonic of that of the submarine's screw, its frequency
could have been cancelled out by the frequency of the submarine's
propeller resonating through the sea at harmonic levels.

It is possible that the Japanese were testing an undersea
noise-canceling technology similar to those we have in aviation
headsets. The sound of the screws of the sub and the fishing vessel
could have been made to cancel each other out.

Another distinct possibility exists, i.e., that the fishing vessel had
turned off its engines to listen for the submarine (or whales) and was
in fact tracking it but not expecting it to breach suddenly through the
surface as it did. (Author's note: this can now be ruled out as it is
known that the Ehime Maru was moving at nearly top speed when she struck
the submarine.)

All these avenues should be investigated before condemning the captain
of the USS Greenville, Commander Scott Waddle.

Sincerely,
Robert Morningstar

P.S. During the 1980's, we developed and shared an advanced CAD/CAM
propeller milling technology with Japan which made our submarines
super-quiet and which could not be easily heard by the Russians. Law
prohibited its transfer to Eastern Block nations. The Russian's
propellers were loud, clunky things, which we could hear from the East
Coast coming through Gibraltar easily. In 1987, Toshiba Corporation
illegally transferred this technology to USSR by way of a Norwegian
intermediary. Since then I have avoided doing any business with or using
Toshiba products, computers or otherwise."

[Title 17 U.S.C. section 107]

To Harass and Terrorize
by Jef Allen

In its lead story in the Thursday March 8, 2001,
edition of the Forsyth County News, the Georgia
newspaper (Motto: Your "Hometown Paper" Since 1908),
ran an article under the headline: "Drug dogs are
familiar sight on school campuses." Forsyth County
is a rural bedroom community in the northern
suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.

To quote the article, "Deputies are increasingly
using drug-sniffing dogs in searches of lockers
and cars at Forsyth County middle and high schools.

The searches are done as a cooperative effort
between the county sheriff's office and school
system as part of the ongoing war on drugs and in
response to heightened fears about school safety.
There is no specific reason deputies are appearing
more this year on campuses with the dogs, said
Capt. Ernie Born, commander of special operations
for the sheriff's office.

"'We have the resources, so we might as well use
them,' Born said Tuesday."

The article continues, "In some cases, deputies
theorized the dogs were sniffing marijuana smoke
in the (automobile) upholstery. Deputies also
have walked canines by lockers at a handful of
middle schools. No arrests have been made as a
result of the searches.

Deputy Jody Chapman said the practice is a
preventative measure, designed to keep campuses
free of drugs, more than to "bust" students while
they are in class.

"'All it takes is one student to look out a window
and it goes around the school we're out there with
the dogs. It scares them,' Chapman said."

No kidding, Deputy Chapman. Dogs on the leashes
of armed agents of the government have a long and
colorful history of scaring the crap out of people,
from runaway slaves to Jews being herded into
boxcars on their way to concentration camps.

This article in "Your 'Hometown Paper' Since 1908"
captures in a microcosm the rot to our institutions
that is being caused by our government's
ill-conceived "war on drugs."

For starters, we have the local authorities, and
the school administrators who accompany them,
wandering about the school campus with German
Shepherds looking for evidence of criminal activity
without probable cause, other than the fact that
the officers "know" that some of these kids are
using drugs.

Second, we have the officers promoting the theory
that "the dogs were sniffing marijuana smoke in
the (automobile) upholstery" of some of the cars
in the parking lot. No physical evidence necessary,
thank you very much.

By the officer's own admission, there is "no
specific reason" for the activity that they are
engaged in, they simply "have the resources, so we
might as well use them." There is something morally
repugnant when the police feel justified in scaring
middle and high school kids with dogs because they
"have the resources."

Of course, the officers in question certainly feel
justified in their activity. They are theoretically
preventing crimes from taking place on our public
school grounds. You can hear the argument now: If
you aren't guilty, you have nothing to be afraid
of. When you extend this argument logically, however,
it falls apart in tatters.

If the officers are justified in their actions with
no evidence of a crime being committed, where does it
stop? Should we start searching every car on the
street or every individual's home simply because we
are certain that somebody, somewhere is breaking
the law, and besides, "we have the resources"?

Why not post checkpoints with a rising gate and a
guard shack at all county borders where we can check
the citizens' papers and let the dogs sniff for
illegal contraband? After all, surely somebody on
these highways is breaking the law. The job of law
enforcement would be a helluva lot easier if we could
just get rid of that pesky Bill of Rights.

According to an article in the July 17, 2000, issue
of U.S. News and World Report, entitled "The Case of
the Missing Cops", Potsdam, Ohio Police Chief Bobby
Cheney proposed just that. In an effort to latch onto
a share of President Clinton's COPS program funding,
Cheney proposed "raising the match (locally provided
matching funds required by the federal program) by
launching Driving Under the Influence checkpoints,
issuing speed citations, and making the village
eligible for asset forfeiture funds through a K-9
unit, which would sniff out drugs on local roads.
"It would have been top notch," says Chaney, insisting
he was just trying to keep a lid on crime. But
residents were not impressed: 80 out of 100 polled
opposed fattening the force, agreeing with a Dayton
Daily News headline that tagged the chief's grand
scheme 'Mad Stop.'"

According to the article, "Potsdam, Ohio, (population
250) consists of 100 houses scattered around two
principal streets: Main and Cross. There are no
stoplights, stores, gas stations, or restaurants. Yet
from October to February, this tiny village northwest
of Dayton employed 11 police

Ann Coulter (back to story)
March 8, 2001
More facts, fewer liberals
While having dinner recently with John Lott, author of "More Guns, Less Crime," one
of life's enduring debates came up: Are liberals evil or just stupid? I was
surprised to discover that Lott vigorously disputed those of us staking out the evil
position.
Lott couldn't even be fairly described as calling liberals stupid. They just believe
"different facts," as he put it. Facts other than his number-crunching study
analyzing 18 years of crime data from every county in the nation, for example. That
study famously demonstrated that concealed-carry laws reduce certain types of crime.
Lott's results contradicted the prevailing liberal ethos on guns, and liberals are
hopping mad about it.
Consequently, it was kind of a shock to see the hard-nosed economist getting all
gooey-eyed and "We Are the World" sappy when discussing the people who have declared
World War III on him. He adamantly refuses to believe that anyone would knowingly
support a policy that costs lives.
This is where economics and politics clash. As Franklin D. Roosevelt's pal "Uncle
Joe" Stalin summarized the politician's view: "A single death is a tragedy, a
million deaths is a statistic."
Pumping fresh data into the evil-or-stupid debate, the week after our dinner a
liberal weekly published an article on Lott. It was not immediately clear what
prompted Newsweek to write about him. There was no new law, study or sensational
crime in the news. (The school shooting in California came days after the article
was published.)
There was, however, a nice new Republican president. One of the liberal arguments
against Lott's study is that no one should hire him. Not universities and -- just in
case a Republican administration might be interested in hiring an economist who is
not intimidated by liberal censors -- not the Bush administration either.
Consequently, Newsweek ran a timely piece on Lott, stating in a neutral,
nonjudgmental way that he is "vicious," as if it were a bullet point on his resume.
This is another important liberal argument against Lott's research -- the man is
"vicious."
The article also revealed insights only a telepath or psychiatrist could claim to
know, such as Lott's purported "need to attack." It was reminiscent of the FACT
magazine article published during the 1964 presidential campaign that quoted
numerous psychiatrists saying Barry Goldwater was -- in their professional opinion --
 nuts.
Commendably, the Newsweek article did not repeat some of the old lies about Lott,
such as that he was funded by the gun industry. It did, however, make up some new
lies, such as that his research on the Florida election was funded by Republicans.
Among the many liberal ripostes to John Lott -- he was funded by gun-nuts or
Republicans, he is "vicious," he should not be able to make a living -- this
argument does not appear: He is wrong. Newsweek quoted a Stanford University law
professor, John Donohue, who has "spent years reviewing Lott's data" saying only:
"What a lot of people worry about is that if it really is the case that the results
aren't good, then he's really peddling a false message."
Wait a second. But if Lott's results are good, then it's gun control advocates who
are peddling a false message. One position or the other is going to cause more
people to die. So which is it? Gee, if only we had someone who had "spent years
reviewing Lott's data." How about Donohue? Why didn't it occur to the Newsweek
reporter to ask Donohue why he was unable to cough up an attack on Lott's research?
It's not as if Donohue is shy about leaping into the political fray. He has raised
objections to law professor Paul Cassell's research on the Miranda warnings.
(Leading Cassell to remark, "I chased my opponents from empirical assertions to
untestable arguments.")
Last year Donohue co-authored the winsome study purporting to link legalized
abortion to reductions in crime. ("Given that homicide rates of black youths are
roughly nine times higher than those of white youths, racial differences in the
fertility effects of abortion are likely to translate into greater homicide
reductions.") He once ran for the Connecticut state senate -- as a Democrat, one
need hardly add.
But the worst Donohue can say about Lott's study, which he's spent "years" studying,
is that "people" worry that if it's wrong, that would be very bad. If Lott is wrong,
why can't Donohue say so, rather than tossing out irrelevant and painfully obvious
epistemological points?
"People" probably worried that if reports of Stalin's systematic starvation of 10
million Ukrainians weren't true, then those who said so were peddling a false
message. (None more so than The New York Times, which whiled away the years of the
Ukrainian famine denying it.)
That's not believing different facts; it's squirting octopus fluid on

assessment from 1974 to 1986 - a period covering at least three
presidencies - "substantially" overestimated the Kremlin's plans to
modernize and expand its strategic nuclear arsenal.

Well DUH How else do you maintain a wartime military economy during peace?
The bigger the enemy, the bigger the threat. The bigger the threat, the bigger
the fear. The bigger the fear, the better the justification for the ENORMOUS
amount spent on the cold war. Thirteen TRILLION dollars.

The document raised new questions about how well the CIA and other U.S.
intelligence agencies judged the Soviet Union's aims and intentions, and the
extent to which mistaken analyses influenced U.S. military spending and
 Washington's defense and foreign policies.

They weren't mistaken. They lied. The Soviet economy was one one sixth that
of the USA's. They didn't have the money to waste on military hardware AND
fund their society.

The persistent errors also raise questions about the intelligence
community's ability to collect reliable information on today's targets,
which are more diverse and even harder for spies to penetrate than the
 Soviet Union was.

The " intelligence " community did not see the Soviet Empire crumble. But
they did see the Soviets ' modernize and expand ' their military. Why am I
paying these guys?

During the Cold War, the Soviet Union's force of nuclear-armed
intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarines, and long-range
bombers was the U.S intelligence community's primary target. But today's
spies must try to keep track of international terrorists, rogue
nuclear-weapons programs and computer hackers, and also plumb the minds of
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and North Korea's Kim Jong Il, all of which
is much harder than counting missile silos in Kazakstan or estimating the
 wheat crop in Ukraine.

This is all bullshit. This writer is a CIA hack.

The study is part of more than 19,000 pages of documents that have been
declassified for a two-day conference on the CIA's analysis of the Soviet
Union from 1947 to 1991 that opened today at Princeton University. The
documents deleted material still considered important to national security.

Princeton is the home of the modern US intelligence structure foisted upon the
American people by presidential order after WWII. NOTHING comming out of
Princeton which relates to intelligence can be trusted. It is simply one of the
academic outlets for CIA disinformation. As is this article.

Titled "Intelligence Forecasts of Soviet Intercontinental Attack Forces: An
Evaluation of the Record," the study reviewed the U.S. intelligence
community's projections of efforts to modernize Soviet nuclear forces in the
 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

The forecasts, known as national intelligence estimates (NIE), were intended
to guide the president and his top aides in setting defense and foreign
policies, including military spending and the size of U.S. nuclear forces.
An NIE represents the consensus of 13 agencies, including the CIA and the
Defense Intelligence Agency, which frequently disagreed about the severity
 of the Soviet threat.

The study found that predicting the rate of Soviet nuclear-force
modernization "has proven to be the most difficult aspect of Soviet
 strategic forces to project."

Yeah right.

As an example, it cited a 1975 forecast that by 1985 more than 90 percent of
Soviet long-range missiles and bombers would be replaced. "In reality, the
Soviets replaced less than 60 percent of them," the study said.

"This tendency to substantially overestimate the rate of [Soviet] force
modernization occurred in every NIE published from 1974 to 1986, and it was
true for every projected force - whether it assumed high, moderate or low
levels of effort," the study continued.

Remember the hysteria of the " missile gap?" Remember haw much it cost us to catch
up? Evidently, GE, Hughes, General Dynamics, and the other masters of war weren't
making enough profits for their share holders to buy a new limousine every year.

In another example, it said an NIE published in 1985 - the beginning of
President Ronald Reagan's second term - "projected that virtually the entire
[Soviet] ICBM force would be replaced within 10 years."

The Reagan administration waged economic war against the Soviets using these
fabricated reports as justification. The US economy, being six times larger
than the Soviet economy, could spend huge

Corporate donors seek return on investment in Bush campaign

http://www.msnbc.com/news/539790.asp

Philip Morris has numerous ties to the Bush administration

By Tom Hamburger, Laurie McGinley and David S. Cloud
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

WASHINGTON, March 6 - For the businesses that invested more money than ever
before in George W. Bush's costly campaign for the presidency, the returns
have already begun. MBNA America Bank was one of the single largest
corporate donors to the Bush campaign and other GOP electoral efforts last
year.
THE BANK AND ITS EMPLOYEES gave a total of about $1.3 million, according to
the Center for Responsive Politics, a non-partisan clearinghouse here.
Charles Cawley, MBNA's president, was a member of the Bush "pioneers,"
wealthy fund-raisers who each personally gathered at least $100,000 for the
presidential campaign.
Mr. Cawley hosted Bush fund-raising events at his home in Wilmington, Del.,
last year and, in 1999, at his summer home in Maine, north of the Bush
family retreat in Kennebunkport. At the Maine affair, 200 guests gathered
in the early evening on the large porch of the Cawley home, situated on a
hill with a sweeping view of the Atlantic Ocean. Guests sipped cocktails
and heard a brief talk by the candidate.
The money didn't stop on election day. Mr. Cawley and his wife each gave
the maximum of $5,000 to help fund Mr. Bush's fight in the Florida vote
recount. Mr. Cawley gave an additional $100,000 to the Bush-Cheney
inaugural committee, the most the committee would take from a single donor.
Last week, MBNA's investment began paying off. The company, one of the
nation's three largest credit-card issuers, has been pushing for years to
tighten bankruptcy laws that allow certain consumers filing for court
protection, in effect, to disregard obligations to credit-card companies
and other unsecured lenders. On Wednesday, the White House announced that
President Bush would sign a bill now moving through Congress that would
make it tougher for consumers to escape such debts. If enacted, the measure
could translate into an estimated tens of millions of dollars in additional
annual earnings for each of the big credit companies.
MBNA's vice chair, David Spartin, says his firm has no way to estimate how
the legislation would affect the company's bottom line. MBNA has backed the
bill for years "because we think it is good for consumers," as it will
"reduce the cost of credit for everyone," Mr. Spartin says. The donations
to President Bush and other candidates were made because "we think they
would make excellent public officials," he adds. No MBNA official "has ever
spoken to President Bush about the bill," Mr. Spartin says.
   'OUT OF THE CAVE, BLINKING'
Many corporations feel like a new day is dawning in Washington. "We have
come out of the cave, blinking in the sunlight, saying to one another, 'My
God, now we can actually get something done,' " says Richard Hohlt,
Washington lobbyist for several other major banks which, like MBNA, are
backing an industry coalition whose members provided some $26 million to
Republicans during the 1999-2000 campaign cycle.
President Clinton last year vetoed a similar bill that would have toughened
bankruptcy law. Consumer groups argue that such legislation would weaken
protection for working families, many of whom have been the targets of
aggressive credit-card marketing.
Also in action last week were members of a large coalition of Mr. Bush's
business backers who want to roll back new federal rules designed to
protect workers from repetitive-motion injuries.
In a private meeting with congressional leaders last Tuesday, President
Bush signed off on a plan to kill the ergonomic regulations, using the
powers of the Congressional Review Act. That act, passed in 1996, gives
Congress 60 days to reject regulations issued by federal agencies. But it
was never used during Mr. Clinton's term because to take effect, a
resolution rejecting new rules has to be approved by the president.
Repealing the ergonomic rules ranks high on the priority lists of the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers and the
National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors. The trade groups
technically don't endorse candidates, but each of them mounted major
grass-roots and advertising campaigns that benefited Mr. Bush and other
Republicans in the 2000 elections.
A repeal would be a particularly hard loss for organized labor, which has
fought for enactment of the ergonomic rules for 10 years, saying they are
needed to protect workers from wrist, back and other injuries.
On employee safety, consumer bankruptcy and a host of other issues, Bush
administration officials maintain they are acting strictly on the merits,
not the money. Proponents of the bankruptcy bill, for example, point out
that personal bankruptcy filings reached a record 1.4 million in 1998. The
bill that would toughen the bankruptcy law won strong

The rise of capitalist elites

Central to Smith's model of a market economy was the condition that all buyers
and sellers must be small. In this way, prices could not be influenced by
individual actors, but would reach a fair and reasonable level - through fair
competition between sellers, and comparison shopping on the part of buyers. In
Smith's model, very large producers - who had the power to dominate markets - were
specifically forbidden. The dynamics of capitalism, on the other hand, lead
naturally toward monopoly. While Smith's arguments helped pave the way for
capitalism, it is the natural dynamics of capitalism which have prevailed, not the
enlightened dynamics which Smith prescribed.

If one central principle could be identified, which best characterizes the essence
of the Industrial Revolution, that principle would be 'economy of scale'. That's
what factories, and steam engines, and mass production are all about. By
concentrating lots of equipment, resources, and workers all in one place, it is
possible to produce more and cheaper products than with many small operations. In
a large operation one can use more powerful and efficient equipment; one can
demand discount prices from suppliers; one can set up an efficient distribution
system - and there are many other advantages as well. Unless there are sufficient
regulatory restrictions placed on the size of an operation, the natural tendency
is for the large to gobble the small, and the larger to gobble the large, '...and
so adinfinitum'. And this is exactly what has happened, right up to the current
day - with its mega retail stores, global fast-food chains, transnational
corporations, and the increasing concentration of world commerce into the hands of
a small number of huge operators.

In order to understand the dynamics of capitalism, recall the capitalist paradigm:
'wealth accumulation through initiative innovation'. Building factories showed
one kind of initiative, and lobbying for new economic policies showed another.
The entrepreneur and the investor, in pursuit of greater wealth, must always ask
themselves the following question: 'Given my available assets, what strategy will
bring me the greatest future returns?' The answers to this question are as varied
as the human imagination, and it is that 'creativity in pursuit of ever-greater
wealth' which has guided the course of history ever since capitalism took hold.

Industrialists, bankers, and financiers formed the core of the capitalist
community, and as such they were clearly an important and influential segment of
society. Governments looked to this community when financing was needed for wars
and other government endeavors, and it was from this community that Finance
Ministers and other important government officials would usually be selected. The
interests of government and the interests of capitalism became intertwined, and
government policy increasingly

The
  Right Has Won?
(A Footnote on Jonah Goldberg)
by
  Steven Yates
Although
I’ve followed the spat between National Review Online columnist Jonah
Goldberg and several of my fellow LewRockwell.com columnists,
I’d been a nonparticipant. Nevertheless, Goldberg has been one of
the many writers whose material I would read and print if he was
writing on a topic I found interesting – including the article that
bashed LewRockwell.com by way of replying to David
  Dieteman, Myles
  Kantor and Gene
  Callahan. Goldberg attempted
to produce a "conservative canon." But let’s face it: the list
was flawed. While most of the books that were on Goldberg’s list
belonged there, not listing Hayek’s major later works or anything
by Mises was a blunder. Goldberg goofed in at least one major respect
no one I know of has noticed: he omitted C.S. Lewis’ The
Abolition of Man, arguably one of the half-dozen most important
  books of the 20th century.
I
confess that in Goldberg’s rejoinder to Dieteman, Cantor, and Callahan
  (as well as this
week’s installment) I sense resentment more than anything else
  – resentment that folks out here in the boonies and hinterlands
(here boonies and hinterlands mean: everywhere in
the country but inside-the-beltway) would take up their word processors
and criticize the work of someone in the "in crowd." This
would help explain the references to "cat-kicking" libertarians
who "spew Diet Coke out of their noses," etc., in response
to what I thought was Dieteman’s sensible and level-headed explanation
of why Hayek is not a conservative. Goldberg is dismissive of the
whole enterprise of LewRockwell.com. We’re unimportant; no one reads
us; no one has heard of us; we’re idiots, he insinuates in his most
recent rejoinder; etc., etc. If this is true, then why did he bother
replying – and then reply a second time? Could it be that he
  just doesn’t want the competition?
But
none of this is why I took up my word processor here. The dispute
led me to take another look at Goldberg’s recent columns, upon which
I discovered another oddity that might shed some light on recent
  events. In a January
column, Goldberg looked at an article in Lingua-Franca,
a rather curious publication somewhere between The Chronicle
  of Higher Education and People (or was a few years ago;
my subscription has since lapsed). Goldberg’s topic was a handful
of folks who had allied themselves with the right, broadly conceived,
and then, for whatever reason, lurched leftward. Examples: John
Gray, David Brock (the latter being the author of The Real Anita
Hill, still the definitive guide to the University of Oklahoma
affirmative-action law professor whose infamous Coke can was instrumental
in leftists’ efforts to sabotage Clarence Thomas’ Supreme Court
  nomination in 1991).
While
reading this article, I came across the following statement: "After
decades of war, the Right (broadly defined) has won (even more broadly defined). Over
the course of the battle, and even more so in its
aftermath, hordes of Leftists have migrated across the intellectual
borderlands to the right. Meanwhile, a few dyspeptic and opportunistic
tag-alongs and second lieutenants decide to double-back the other
way, figuring the decimated and demoralized troops on the Left will
eagerly promote them and offer them some hope of victory in the
  future."
Goldberg’s
remark invoked some dj vu of a different
sort, memories of conversations about the right winning. Years ago
I would listen to philosophy professors and various other
intellectual-wannabes
express fears of the coming take-over of what Hillary would later
call the vast right-wing conspiracy. We were several years into
the so-called Reagan Revolution, and according to this crowd, everything
was moving right. I never took any of it seriously. Some of these
rants were punctuated with references to offbeat sci-fi fantasies
like The Handmaid’s Tale, perhaps the radical feminist’s ultimate
nightmare but about as plausible as Lost in Space. (The latter
  at least used

Mr.

I’m
was an "ordinary" American conservative. I scratched my
head when we invaded Iraq, and since I was in high school, my main
concern was that my reservist Uncles make it home safely. I didn’t
understand why my relatives should be in harm’s way to fight someone
else’s war in the middle east, but went along with the "we
have to win it if we’re in it" attitude. After high school,
I went to Georgia Tech. I knew the US was helping one side in some
"Bosnian War", and that the other side was supposedly
doing "really bad things". It sounded fishy, but I was
in school and didn’t have the time to care.
I
graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree, and took a job
happily building the Internet infrastructure that makes email and
the web possible. I disliked being in the 30%+ tax bracket, but
compared to student poverty, 60+% of my pay seemed pretty good.
I met and married my beautiful Serbian bride a few months before
anyone had ever heard of Kosovo. I got quit a shock when I discovered
she was one of the "bad guys" but that her family had
been ethnically cleansed from Sarajevo by the Muslims. Here was
a side to the story I had never heard. She told me the US was going
to start another war over Kosovo and was helping the Albanians.
I nodded my head at the time, but still didn’t quit believe that
the media would actually lie about something so dangerous as a war.

So,
when the claims of a genocide started, I was shocked. She had called
it correctly. CNNAOLTIMEWARNERNBCCBSABCMSNBC all spun into action. The
most ludicrous claims of Jamie Shea and James Rubin were parroted without question.
"100,000 rounded up in a Pristina soccer
stadium." Pictures of war refugees were shown as "proof"
of the genocide and ethnic cleansing, after the bombs started falling
of course. You probably think we were right to bomb.
You’re
wrong. We armed the KLA while "brokering" the "peace
deal". We setup the massacre at Racak. We ripped up the Rambouilett
agreement that Yugoslavia signed but the KLA didn’t. We drafted
a new one with an ammendment that turned Yugoslavia into a NATO
puppet state and bombed them when they didn’t sign. In violation
of the NATO charter. In violation of the US Constitution. We bombed
hospitals, power grids, the Chinese Embassy, a market, civilian
factories, a commuter train, a TV station, an Albanian refugee column,
and countless civilians. We bombed within a kilometer of my in-laws
home in downtown Zemun outside Belgrade. We bombed past the 60 day
limit of the Unconstitutional "War Powers Act". We bombed
in spite of all norms of decency, morality, and common human kindness.
Somewhere
early on in that personal nightmare I realized that we have become an
Empire. Now, paying tribute to the government sickens me. I know
that my money went to fund an illegal, unethical war. As we approach
the two year anniversary of the bombing, I look back at my political
transformation: my joy at finding Antiwar.com, a site dedicated
to the truth; my sudden libertarian epiphany when Justin Raimondo’s

So
now, as I read National Review (via links from Lewrockwell.com),
I ask myself. "How can anyone with a shred of morality advocate
aggressive war?" It’s a question more and more Americans ask
themselves, and each other. Perhaps it’s a question you should ask
yourself. Have you ever seen the Chinese Embassy with your own eyes?
Do you understand how shocked and ashamed I was to see bombed bridges,
buildings, power plants, and factories as I toured welcoming Yugoslavia

Brian Lamb and guest looked at each other in a confused way and thanked the
old guy for calling. They didn't get it, but I did and rushed for my
dictionary. The old guy was right, and Clinton was too. One must be
careful about language. I remember when a school in Utah dropped Red Riding
Hood from the children's access, because the word "screw" was used in the
story. Now it was used in the old way of describing a container, but screw
was screw to the folks in whatever small town this was. Not too long ago I
shocked a group by saying that someone looked like they had been "rode hard
and put away wet". Now this is an old time phrase that relates to what
happens to a horse that is ridden hard and put away without being walked to
cool down. The horse usually founders, suffers terribly, looks awful and
frequently must be put down. My ignorant group had never heard it, knew
nothing of horses, and were sure I had said something off color. What can I
say? In the South, you can still hear one woman say to another, "You old
heifer." It's usually a joke, but it is disparaging. A heifer is a cow that
has never had a calf. An old cow that is barren is fit only for slaughter,
and the meat will not be very good either. Language means different things
to different people in different times. There were a lot of nasty remarks
about Clinton's lawyers wanting specific legal definitions for things. I
don't blame them. I've just never figured out why Clinton kept rolling over.
It was always so important to Republicans that Clinton's words be exact, but
Dubya can barely get out a meaningful sentence, and the media and the various
talking heads just smile like they're watching an awkward four year old and
say, he's learning to use the teleprompter. I can just hear the inference,
"Oh look, he's taking his first step." He's not only the "first son;" he's
been adopted by ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and FOX. And their pride in his
small accomplishments is matched only by his own. Prudy

[CTRL] Fwd: Nazis in the UK

2001-03-10 Thread Kris Millegan

Nazis in the UK

Beneath the anxious skies of haze-bound England, you dont need a
weatherman to know which way the wind blows. ‹ Alex Constantine

NAZIS ASSUMED DIVIDED BRITAIN WOULD LOSE WAR (Independent, November 26,
1993, p. 3): Hitler believed Britain was so divided in 1941 it could be
defeated without invasion, according to documents from Sir Winston
Churchills wartime intelligence archive, released yesterday.
Other documents released show Britain received reports in 1942
revealing that more than 8,000 men and women died at Auschwitz concentration
camp in a single month.
Jewish groups maintain that Britain knew more about genocide inside
the camp than it has been prepared to admit.
Newly released material also reinforces claims that Britain knew of,
or was able to predict, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 but
failed to warn the United States in an effort to draw her into the war

CHANNEL ISLAND NAZIS COULD HAVE BEEN PROSECUTED (Guardian, January 23,
1995): The Governments long-standing claim that none of the Nazis
respinsible for war crimes on the Channel Islands could be brought to trial
because they escaped capture has been revealed to be a lie.
A British military intelligence report uncovered by Guardian reporter
Madeliene Bunting in archives in Moscow shows that in September 1945 there
were 15 suspected German war criminals being held either on the Channel
Islands or in British mainland camps. A further 31 swuspects were identified
as easily traceable.
None was ever tried, apparently because of official embarrassment
about the risk of exposure of the scale of collaboration on the islands, and
the fact that the islands witnessed the biggest mass murder ever on British
soil
In 1945, a copy of the report was sent to the Soviet Union as Œthe
most aggrieved nation in the islands labor camps.
ΠWicked and merciless crimes were carried out on British soil in the
last three years, Capt. Pantcheff told his superiors after interviewing
hundreds of survivors and captors. The crimes included shootings and
beatings of sick and starving prisoners on Alderney. In his report, Capt.
Pantcheff recommended prosecutions byt, in a television interview in 1990,
he maintained that rials had been impossible because those responsible Œhad
all left before we got here

KING GEORGE VI ŒTRIED TO STOP THE JEWS ESCAPING NAZI GERMANY
(International Express, No. 299, July 1994, P. 4): The Queens father tried
to stop Jewish families escaping Nazi Germany, according to a controversial
new book. George VI is accused of personally intervening to prevent refugees
from Hitler fleeing to the safety of Palestine

THE NAZI-HUNTERS FACE COSTLY DEFEAT (International Express, No. 169, p.
13): Britains most expensive police investitation, the worldwide hunt for
Nazi war criminals, is on the brink of collapse.
After a two-year inquiry, a hand-picked Scotland Yard squad has failed
to uncover enough evidence for a single prosecution.

1500 UKRANIAN SS OFFICERS MIGRATED TO THE UK (Independent,
January 15, 2001): Suspected Nazi war criminals would be stripped of
British citizenship under plans being drawn up by the Government to speed
the extradition of those accused of committing atrocities during the Second
World War. Jack Straw, the Home Secretary, is reviewing his powers amid
claims that 1,500 members of a notorious Ukrainian SS division are living in
the UK
Barbara Roche, the Immigration minister, revealed a change was being
considered after a series of allegations about former Nazis living in
Britain. "The Home Secretary is considering the scope of his powers under
immigration and nationality legislation in relation to individuals suspected
of war crimes or crimes against humanity," she confirmed

BRITAIN ŒA HAVEN FOR WAR CRIMINALS (Guiardian, December 15, 1993, p.
4) War crimes campaigners have accused the Government of procrastinating
over trials as the United States government announced that a British citizen
alleged to be a former SS camp guard is to be deported to Britain.
Alexander Schweidler, aged 71, a Czech-born British citizen has been
living in the United States since 1965. He agreed to leave the country after
being charged with having concealed his SS record when applying for a visa
to enter the United States

TOP BRITISH GENERAL SENT TO HONOUR S.S. (International Express, April
1994): Diplomats accused over tributes to Œgallant Nazi dead ‹ Britains
new army commander in Bosnia is at the centre of an embarrassing row after
joining former SS officers at a war memorial service organized by one of
Hitlers closest aides.
The Foreign Office in London asked Brigadier General Andrew Ridgway
and two staff officers to lay a wreath at the Second World War ceremony in
Celle, northern Germany

The gospels redated via the Scrolls

The link with Kevin King's website was interesting, in that he accepts the
pre-70 dating of the gospels while upholding a fairly orthodox Christian view
about Jesus. As he said, the redating of the gospels was first argued by
J.A.T. Robinson in the 60's. Robinson's insight was that the very late date
came from a desire to justify the incredible content of the gospels, chiefly
the miracles and the apparent contradictions. Time was needed for the growth
of legend. The dating simply ignored much of the historical evidence because
of this theological motive. Now there is a huge quantity of new information,
which Christian biblical scholars are only slowly digesting, much gored by
papal bulls. The Scrolls are capable of making an even bigger difference to
the NT than the 19th century discoveries of Creation and Flood stories made
to the OT. The Scrolls' information leading to a redating of John (for a
start) includes the fact of the zealot activities of the Qumran community in
its 1st cent CE phase, taken with the many evidences of an institutional
connection of Qumran with the early Christians. Further, the enemies of the
Teacher are said to be Samaritans in 1QpMic. From this and a great deal more
(Clementina, Acts 8, Eusebius, the stone found in the Tiber etc etc), the
pesher technique identifies Simon Magus the Samaritan as a leading figure in
the history. He was an associate of Jesus, who is called a Samaritan in Jn
8:48, and he was the zealot leader, being also Simon the Zealot of the
disciples (Lk 6:15), also Simon the leper of Bethany, and Lazarus of Bethany
(numerous pseudonyms used for political cover, as was also the case in the
Scrolls' treatment of their opponent). Simon was the leader of the
'Seekers-after-Smooth-Things', Diaspora Essenes, and was the main person
crucified for zealotry by Pilate, 'the Young Lion of Wrath' (pNah). Jesus was
only a subordinate who was crucified as an act of treachery instigated by the
zealots themselves. Since Lazarus is treated sympathetically in John's
gospel, (his 'raising from the dead' in Jn 11 being the lifting of his ban of
excommunication), this means that this gospel was written before Peter and
Paul denounced him (Acts 8, also Acts 13: 8-12 re Bar-Jesus). Acts 8 may be
dated, internally from the pesher, in 37-39 CE. A split occurred in 44 CE, in
the tolerant reign of Claudius, when pro-Roman Christians separated with a
new name, and the zealots remained in the Damascus party that produced CD.
The composition of John's gospel may, on these grounds, be placed very early
indeed, before 37 CE, only a few years after the crucifixion. Its dualistic
philosophy of light-darkness, once taken to be a sign of very late
Hellenistic influence, is now known to be thoroughly at home in the Scrolls,
as Albright saw at once. Other gospels follow. The pesher indicates that Mark
was written in c. 45 CE, Luke at about the same time, and Matthew completed
(after an earlier version, the Hebrew Logia) by 49 CE. For further on this,
see my 'Jesus of the Apocalypse' (1995) and 'The Book that Jesus Wrote -
John's Gospel' (1998). Questions, comments and criticisms that show an
understanding of what is being argued would be welcomed. B.T.

Well Prudy I do believe Clinton was set up - what is outrageous is at
the same time TV promotes homosexuality and people with whom I have
always associated - none of this is polite conversation - many had their
cable taken out for cable is controlled by organized crime and it isn't
too hard to figure who they are is it/.

The experimentors and the experimentees - for classic example of this
refer to LIttleton.cause and effects.

Clinton always was vulnerable.but it took a pig like Monica to -
well put it this way famous old case Angelo Gyp DeCarlo and Sam the
Plumber in a phone conversation and both knew the FBI was monitoring
their telephones?

So they spoke of all the public officials who were "holding them up",
bribes and payoffs.and then said "Hey we got so many members (Mafia)
in the Masons we call it the Mafia Mason Lodge"..so this was a title
out of my manuscript, and I wondered.

So who did Nixon pardon? Why Angelo "Gyp"
DeCarlo and not a shot or word was fired.

Monica was setting Clinton up for it was her phone they tapped...the
President knew his line was clear but evidently someone told him hey
watch it - the Mossad is tapping your line for his private line turned
out to be an old party lineand Monica knew this.

She is a trained prostitute - trained - and no matter what you call it,
they made a pig pen out of the Oval Office (my apologies to the pig)

And John Gotti is in jail? While the chief prosecution witness against
him admitted in Court he had murdered 19 people, (had imunity) to show
how honest he was.

Today the mob should be shouting Give Us Gotti.for they are hanging
the wrong man.

Then who set up Nixon? Gordon Liddy, Jesuit trained, might have answer
to that one - for once a Jesuit, always a Jesuit - Huzzah?

saba

So all this spying on the internet - we pay taxes to build our own
gallows?

[CTRL] The United States of Corporate America

2001-03-10 Thread Steve Wingate

-Caveat Lector-

The United States of Corporate America
A sad realization

 By Diane Tkac
March 9, 2001

http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/Tkac030901/tkac030901.html

First let's make it clear that under the Bush regime, America is a
corporation and corporations are in the business of making money. You've
got to have money to participate and frankly, most Americans just don't
earn enough.

The Clinton administration did a great disservice to Corporate America by
encouraging individual participation. You know the saying about too many
cooks.

Second, citizens need to understand that government regulations are
dramatically eating away Corporate America's profits. To correct this unjust
theft and intrusion by government, the Bush regime will submit a budget that
slashes funding for EPA, FEMA, the Departments of Agriculture,
Commerce, Energy, Interior, Justice, Labor and Transportation.

With these departments curtailed, Corporate America will see a massive
reduction in regulations, and experience a sizable increase in its bottom
line profits. Any damage caused by reduced or non-existent regulations,
will be limited to areas inhabited by the poor (recently removed from the tax
rolls), the uneducated and most minorities. Please consider this Corporate
America's public notification to reduce activity in these areas. Corporate
America will not accept liability for ailments, accidents or damages
incurred while living and working in or traveling through these areas.

Third. Voter participation over the past several election cycles has dipped
below 50 percent. With the ultimate goal of eliminating time consuming
elections, Corporate America has streamlined the voting process. Just
think no more campaign ads, no more boring debates and no more waiting
in line to cast a ballot. Corporate America will select and present to the
Supreme Court, an experienced, prominent (wealthy), white (of course)
male for a ceremonial stamp of approval. Also in a strictly ceremonial
process, citizens may cast a vote; these votes, of course, will not be
counted.

Fourth. The Office of Faith Based Initiatives, created for Republican
supported special interest groups (i.e. Christian Coalition, NRA, Right to
Life, etc.) will approve future funding to the poor and needy. The Republican
Congress is instructed to no longer involve themselves in social issues.

Corporate America thanks all the special interest groups participating in
Election 2000, however, their services are no longer needed to
disseminate Corporate America's message. In the future, all information
passed on to the public, will be carefully constructed and presented in an
easily understood, entertaining sound bite.

Finally, Corporate America will not, in any way, eliminate the American
Dream. A compassionate conservative Corporate America would never
deny an individual the right to dream that he or she could dramatically
change the course of their lives. Corporate America does, however, refuse
to provide any assistance in realizing the dream.

Welcome to the United States of Corporate America, government of
business, by business and for business.

[CTRL] That's how the president speaks

2001-03-10 Thread Steve Wingate

-Caveat Lector-

"That's how the president speaks"

 By Bill C. Davis

March 9, 2001

http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/Davis030901/davis030901.html

The man who won the Nobel Peace Prize sits next to George and we listen
and watch as George says things like: "We had a frank discussion€”a
good discussion." "We'll consult closely. We'll stay in touch." He points to a
reporter, sans nickname, after Kim Dae Jung has responded in depth to a
question, and George says to the reporter something like, "Go ahead, if
you can remember your question. Or if you know the answer." Implying
perhaps that Kim Dae Jung went on too long and that he, George, will not
have an answer, or that the reporter, like he, must strain to remember what
he was thinking or if he was thinking. This, I suppose, is what people like
Tom Brokaw and Cokie Roberts would call charming. I call it frightening.

Equally frightening is a response from a White House spokesman to a
question about a George statement. Explaining why he is suspicious of
North Korea, George is quoted in an article by David E. Sanger in the New
York Times as saying, "We're not certain as to whether or not they're
keeping all terms of all agreements." According to the article there is
apparently only one agreement America has with North Korea and there is
no evidence that it is not keeping those terms. The White House
spokesman said that George was referring to future agreements. When
pressed about the fact the George did not use the future tense, the
spokesman said, "That's how the president speaks." That's how the
president speaks.

George's impromptu speaking is a reflection of his simplistic thinking
process and his lack of emotional and intellectual connection to
complicated and ambiguous issues. He can't seem to process them. He
comes out with things like: "The North Koreans should know that we are a
peaceful people. They need not be fearful of us." It's bad dialogue from a
Grade-B science fiction movie. Yes, we are building a missile defense
system. Yes, our military budget is bigger than the next seven countries
combined. Yes, we bomb Baghdad. Yes a girl, in a Catholic school, named
Bush shot her classmate in the back, but we are a peaceful people and
until you can assure me that you see us that way, I will be very suspicious of
you. What gives him the right to be suspicious and at the same time
oblivious to the suspicions of others? Somehow he feels he has said we
are a peaceful people and they should just accept that and our suspicions
without any resentment or indignation.

Colin Powell, shifting from previous positions, now refers to North Korea as
a threat. There are no imminent negotiations about to take place. The way
the president speaks not only reflects a simplistic thought process, but
seems to create them as well. It's a new version of collateral damage.

The military used to exist to protect our borders, now it exists to protect our
interests. Who is defining "interests" for us? Is it George? His sponsors? If
he had a clear grasp of the agenda he was fronting for, one could feel
secure. If I felt it was all a big chess game and the overriding interest of all
parties, after all is said and done, was the preservation of the chessboard,
I'd sort of sit back and watch the spectacle. But somehow I feel this could
spiral out of control with George holding the pieces. In a sane world, he
would get a vote of no confidence and retire to his ranch, which is what he
wants to do anyway.

My anger about not seeing Al Gore there talking to Kim Dae Jung is
reserved for the people like that spokesman who said, "That's just the way
the president speaks." The mantra for the enablers: "That's just the way he.
. . . ." fill in the blank. My anger is for the senators and congressmen on both
sides who just let it happen as they try to convince us and them that he can
do it; that he'll be fine and that's just the way he speaks.

I think the guy who knows better than anyone what is happening to the
country is Dick Cheney€“a smart guy, probably patriotic. Maybe he is
developing a global vision, but even he has to know that it's not just the way
the president speaks, it's the president. You just know the poor guy is trying
but, God bless him, his heart is just not in it.

Canada May Allow Jammers to Silence Cellphones

By Ian Karleff

TORONTO (Reuters) - The piercing ring of a mobile phone is enough to send many
restaurant and movie patrons into a rage,
but Canada's mobile phone industry is dead against the government forcing etiquette
on the country's eight million users by
legalizing signal jamming technology.

Industry Canada is planning to launch three months of public consultations into
the use of the technology, which could be used
to block cellular phone signals in restaurants, theaters, libraries or other
locations.

``We're going to gather the widest public views possible on the use of cellphone
silencers,'' said Industry Canada advisor David
Warnes.

Warnes told the National Post newspaper that not only are there widespread complaints
about cellphone use in public places
but also inquiries by security firms that want to put jammers in corporate boardrooms
to protect privacy.

The industry representing cellular phone manufacturers and network operators
is firmly against legalizing signal jamming systems
on the grounds that it could compromise public safety.

``Jamming technology is illegal here in Canada. We hope it would remain illegal,''
said Marc Choma, a spokesman for
cellphone lobby group the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association. ''Our
primary concern is public safety with
three million (emergency) calls per year made to 911.''

Cellular phones have long been advertised as indispensable tools in an emergency,
and the industry is worried that this lifeline
would be compromised with jamming technology.

Lately, the industry has been under attack from multiple fronts as cellphones
become ubiquitous, with critics saying mobile
phones are health risks and many North American jurisdictions considering banning
their use by drivers.

There are currently 8.3 million cellular phone users in Canada, up 27 percent
from 1999, and this number is expected to grow
by 25 to 30 percent in 2001.

Cellular phones are a fairly new invention and have only gained widespread popularity
in the past few years, so it only makes
sense that society has yet to self-regulate their usage, said Choma.

``Etiquette is not something we feel you can legislate. It will take a bit of
time for Canadians to tell other Canadians what is right
and wrong, and what is rude,'' added Choma.

Vicki Whitmell, the executive director of the Canadian Library Association said
she has yet to hear of problems with cellphones
in libraries.

``I haven't heard anyone mention this issue and I would think it's partly the
culture of libraries. People know how to use libraries
and most libraries have had a policy in place regarding it for some time,'' she
said.

Choma argues that rather than block the signals, users can be encouraged to turn
the phones off in public places or set them to
vibrate rather than ring. But these are the kinds of solutions that come from
peer, rather than government pressure, he said.

Carbon dioxide, emitted when coal, oil and natural gas combust, is
 one of
those identified greenhouse gases. But it is also the substance
 released into
the air by humans when they breathe, so it is still not classified as
 a
pollutant by U.S. environmental regulating agencies.

Well, it WOULD be one way to rationalize killing off a few billion

New Magnetic-Electric Device Can Power Home From Near Free Energy
Source

By Penny Robins
The Cairns Post
Northern Queensland, OZ
3-8-1

http://www.sightings.com/general9/unveil.htm

(Note - 'Ergon' refers to the local electricity supplier utility
which used to be known as the FNQEB Far North Queensland
Electricity Board).

Two Cairns inventors yesterday unveiled a world first commercial
machine which can power a house from a permanent, clean, green
and virtually free energy source.

The machine, developed by Brinsmead mechanical engineer John
Christie and Edge Hil electrician Lou Brits, has an international
patent pending and is expected to go on the market for
$4000-$5000.

Relying on the attraction and repulsion of internal magnets, the
Lutec 1000 operates continually on a pulse-like current 24 hours
a day - producing 24 kilowatts of power - once it is kickstarted
from a battery source.

The device is more than 500 per cent efficient, compared to a car
which is less than 40 per cent efficient and loses power through
heat and friction.

No powerlines would be needed to distribute energy from the
individual power sources.

There is no heat, harmful emissions or airborne matter in the
transmission.

If it were not for the magnets, which have a life of 1300 years,
and the battery pack, which has a life of about five years, the
machine would be in perpetual motion.

A demonstration of the motor from the carpeted study of Mr
Christie's Brinsmead home revealed the device in all its glory -
bigger than the average cyclone back-up generator but much less
noisy.

Mr Christie and Mr Brits have been tinkering together on the
motor in their spare time since they met in a Sheridan St cafe
five years ago and began sharing ideas.

One and a half years ago, the design was perfected and the pair
lodged a patent with Brisbane patent attorneys Griffith Hack.

Mr Christie said the next step was to develop a small-scale pilot
plant in Cairns to begin distributing the motors to the places
they were needed most - such as shops and homes in the
power-starved Daintree region and the Torres Strait.

He said the price tag for the devices could vary in remote
locations depending on government rebates, freight and
installation costs.

The beauty of the device was that it was transportable
and could be packed in a removalist van along with other
earthly possessions when moving house, he said

The only problem the pair now face is in raising $500,000 to
start their production plant.

"We're trying to keep it local, and trying to keep it in
Australia, but it's hard because, offshore, they are more
aggressive in taking up new initiatives," Mr Christie said.

Already, the invention has received interest from the United
States, China, Japan and Indonesia.

"But we want to set up here and put the product on the market
first, and then we'll take it to the world," he said.

Mr Christie said it had been hard to keep a lid on the invention
which had such a huge potential in the quest for clean, green,
energy production.

He said he and Mr Brit also feared the worst once they realised
the significance of their invention.

"We were afraid the kids would be kidnapped or we'd be shot, I'm
not kidding," he said.

"You hear horror stories about people running up against fuel
companies, but it's all hogwash - people in the main are
desperately looking for technologies that will help our
environment."

The pair have begun discussions with Ergon as there is also the
opportunity of selling energy back to the grid.

Mr Christie said the average home with a pool needed only 14kW of
energy per day - which meant a 10 kW daily excess would be left
over during the generation process

Griffith Hack partner Cliff Carew, who was speaking from
Brisbane, confirmed the device was genuine and unique.

"An international application has been lodged, they've conducted
an international search and haven't come up with anything
similar, so it would seem to be a new concept," Mr Carew said.

He said it would be another two and a half years before the
patent was recognised in 140 countries around the world - the
usual length of time for an international patent to be processed.

SPACE MAPPING MISSION OF ANTARCTICA ABORTED DUE TO NSA OVER-RIDE

In a brief announcment today, NASA and the JPL terminated all further study
of Lake Vostok in S. Antarctica. In an apparent slip of confidentiality,
spokeswoman Debra Shingteller alluded to "National Security Issues" allowing
the NSA to assume full control of what had been an International effort to
explore a huge, under-ice lake near the Russian Vostok research station. Ms.
Shingteller was immediately led away from the podium, and an aid responded
to the many further questions with the same answer: "the project has been
halted due to environmental issues", and that no further releases were
pending. The large crowd of press corp. were left clamoring as the officials
left the stage. Ms. Shingteller has not responded to repeated attempts at
contact.

The above is a report from an official JPL PR rep. who attended the
announcement. The following is part of a letter written to an editor of
Scientific American Magazine (who has requested anonimity). The linked photo
at the end was released by NASA in Jan 2001 seemingly by mistake. It is no
longer available from the official archive.

Approximately 300 miles from the South Pole there is a lake, a very large
lake. It is Lake Vostok. It is also located over 3/4 mile beneath the
Continental Ice Sheet. The best photos of Lk Vostok are from space, where
the outline is clearly visible. Current ice-penetrating radar studies
indicate that the water is up to 2000 ft deep in places, and has an
over-arching dome up to 1/2 mile high. Estimates for filtered light at the
lake surface indicate something like "continuous first morning light" during
Antarctica's summer months. Thermograph imaging proposes an amazing
50-degree average water temperature with "hot spots" near 65 degrees. This
can only be attributed to subsurface geothermal heat sources. At 300 miles
long, and 50 miles wide, the encapsulated atmosphere should have the ability
to cleanse itself through interaction with the lake, and possibly... plant
life.
Also proposed as a possible route for atmospheric interaction with the
lake's environment are what are being labeled "geothermal boils". These are
thousands of bubbles in the ice sheet located in the some 200 sq. miles of
"ice dunes" discovered by the late Russian scientist Ivan Toskovoi who was
stationed at Vostok research base until his disappearance in March 2000. The
surveyed bubbles range from a few to several hundred feet in diameter.

Quite possibly just as exciting as all of the data related so far, is the
discovery through Magnetic Imaging that there is an extremely powerful
source of magnetic energy located at the North end of the lake's shoreline.
As of this writing, no one has suggested an explanation for the magnetic
"anomaly".

As recently as February 2000, at least two international teams were planning
separate probes of the lake. Both consisted of fairly similar robotic
sensors that would have been lowered through shafts(to be drilled). The team
based at Cambridge University, London were sponsored by the UK and US
governments, and backed by NASA technology. For reasons not clear, both
programs have been shelved indefinitely, with NASA going so far as to deny
any involvement, and both governments citing "environmental concerns". An
independent source that visited Norway's research base some 150 miles to the
East stated that a large amount of new equipment and personnel have been
arriving at Russia's Vostok Station over the last six months. This is
interesting considering Russia's current financial situation.

A final note is a verified dispatch out of Casey Station(AU). The pair of
women adventurers who were attempting to ski across the continent last
month, and were extracted by plane during the last leg of their trip, did
NOT request the intervention. Over the protests of the Australian crew at
Casey, the two were airlifted via an extraordinary 48 hour flight by a USN
Special Forces team out of American Samoa. According to the dispatch the
women were insistent on reporting something unusual they had seen. The
latest news reports have the pair resting in "seclusion".

Bankruptcy Bill Benefits Chosen Few
Well-to-Do Investors Sought Special Provision

By Kathleen Day
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, March 10, 2001; Page A01 A bill designed to make it harder for
Americans to wipe out their debts through bankruptcy contains a special
clause that helps shield a group of well-to-do Americans from a debt of at
least $15 million owed to insurance giant Lloyd's of London.
The provision is one of the few in the bankruptcy legislation now being
debated in the Senate that would benefit a small targeted group: about 300
Americans, including 20 millionaires such as Lorraine Grace and her son,
Oliver Grace -- relatives of deceased industrialist J. Peter Grace.
The amendment was added last fall by Republican congressional leaders when
they met privately to craft a final version of the bankruptcy legislation,
which was passed last week in the House.
The provision is an attempt by American investors to win a long-running
battle with Lloyd's that they have lost in British courts. Lloyd's depends on
tens of thousands of wealthy individuals and companies to provide funds for
underwriting its insurance. When Lloyd's suffered enormous losses in the late
1980s and 1990s, investors were expected to use their assets to cover the
claims.
Many investors originally balked at the billions in losses, but most
eventually settled, including many of the 3,000 American investors. But about
10 percent of the Americans refused, contending that they were misled about
the risk and accusing Lloyd's of fraud.
The provision in the bankruptcy bill, which the Senate expects to vote on
next week, would prevent Lloyd's from collecting money from those American
investors, unless the insurer could prove its case in a U.S. court. U.S.
courts have thus far refused to hear these cases, saying that British courts
have jurisdiction over British contracts.
"This is another example of how hopelessly skewed the bankruptcy bill is,"
said Travis Plunkett of the Consumer Federation of America, a nonprofit
advocacy group. "Wealthy investors get a bailout from their financial
obligations, while Americans of modest means must confront harsh new
bankruptcy barriers." Consumer groups say the bankruptcy bill will hurt
middle and lower-income families struggling with debts because of divorce,
ill health or job loss.
Lloyd's investor Thomas Lind, a lawyer for Canal Barge Co., a small
transportation company in New Orleans, disagreed, saying the British courts
failed to fully consider the fraud allegations investors raised, as U.S. law
would require. "All we're asking is that we be allowed to have our day in
court," he said.
"I don't see any irony or conflict with that amendment being in the bill. As
I understand [it], the purpose of the bill as a whole is to allow fair and
legal debts to be collected. And there's nothing fair and legal about the
debt I and hundreds of others are being asked to pay," said Lind, who
described himself as "a middle-class citizen."
The protracted legal battle with Lloyd's forced him in 1995 to prepare for
the possibility of bankruptcy, he said. He has dropped out of "all the social
clubs I belonged to." And he said he transferred half of his assets, which he
said are worth $400,000 including his house, to his wife's name to protect
them.
The Graces and the rest of the 300 investors fund an organization called the
American Names Association, which they formed in 1993 to represent them.
(Lloyd's refers to individual investors as "Names.")
The 300 have already paid $150 million in claims to Lloyd's over the past
decade, or about $700,000 each on average, said Jeffrey Peterson, a spokesman
for the association. But as losses mounted, they decided to challenge Lloyd's.
The American Names Association lobbied Democrats and Republicans in Congress
for over a year in favor of the amendment. Republican members of Congress
crafting a bankruptcy bill last fall added the measure at the request of Rep.
Henry J. Hyde (R-Ill.) and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Sessions and a
spokesman for Hyde said yesterday.
The meeting was closed to Democrats and to consumer group lobbyists.
In an interview yesterday, Sessions said that several Democrats, including
Sens. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and now-retired Bob Kerrey of Nebraska, also
pushed for the amendment. Republicans decided to include it in the final bill
partly to try to gain their votes for the bill, Sessions said.
Congress passed the bankruptcy bill last year, but President Bill Clinton
called it unfair to consumers and vetoed it. In January, Republicans
reintroduced a virtually identical bill that included the Lloyd's clause.
President Bush is expected to sign the measure if Congress passes it.
The British government and the State Department oppose the Lloyd's provision,
saying it undermines court rulings and international treaties that require
contract disputes to be settled in courts in the

NSA, Carnivore, Others Win 'Anti-Awards'

By Robert MacMillan, Newsbytes
CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, U.S.A.,
07 Mar 2001, 8:35 PM CST

The National Security Agency, the FBI's Carnivore Internet surveillance
system, ChoicePoint and the city of Tampa today all received the dubious "Big
Brother" awards from Privacy International for their Internet missteps in the
eyes of online privacy advocates.

The National Security Agency took top "honors" for the "lifetime menace
award," despite Privacy International's David Banisar's assertion that in the
past five years "they've gotten happy and friendly." He noted that this
latest trend of NSA user-friendliness has amounted to a general attempt not
to stop invading citizen's privacy, but to focus attention away from it.

The once-known-as-Carnivore Internet snooping project run by the FBI won the
award for "most heinous project," according to Banisar, for, as he said,
"Bringing Echelon to the ISP level."

The city of Tampa, Fla., meanwhile, took the honors for "worst government
official/agency" for the by now notorious Super Bowl Sunday surveillance
project in which video cameras taped the faces of fans, and then matched them
up against a criminal recognition program.

ChoicePoint, a company that sold consumer data in Transportation Department
records, and also supplied Texas-based felon lists to the state of Florida so
it could invalidate certain potential voters then living in that state during
the 2001 presidential election, took the prize for "greatest corporate
invader."

Other contenders for the lifetime menace award included IBM for, among other
things, its continuing lobbying push on Capitol Hill against privacy laws,
and the Direct Marketing Association for "making sure junk mail is officially
delivered," Banisar said.

Nortel Networks and VeriSign's Network Solutions were runners-up for
"greatest corporate invader," with Network Solutions receiving a special
raspberry for selling its WHOIS database to direct marketers.

The Justice Department and three Pennsylvania school districts - Tussey
Mountain, Penn Cambria and Lower Merion - took honors for the Cybercrime.gov
project and a local school district initiative to link a biometrics program
for individual students to their school lunch programs.

The Clinton administration's medical privacy regulations, under the
Department of Health Human Services, took flak from Privacy International
for its pretense of protecting personal patient data, but in reality, PI
said, for allowing the selling of that data on a widespread basis.

The Seven Big Lies About Iraq
by Jon Basil Utley
3/9/01

ONE –It’s Saddam’s fault that half a million children died since the
economic blockade, saddam could feed his people if he cared instead of using
his money to buy weapons – "More than one million Iraqis have died- 500,000
of them children-as a direct consequence of economic sanctions... As many as
12% of the children surveyed in Baghdad are wasted, 28% stunted and 29%
underweight." – UN FAO, December 1995. For details see Morbidity and
Mortality Among Iraqi Children 1990-98.
ANSWER – Nearly all oil sales money has been allocated through United Nations
inspectors, subject to nearly 40% reduction for reparations and UN expenses,
and subject to Washington's veto and foot dragging – usually months for even
the simplest decision. Washington has allowed food and medicine imports, but
almost nothing else. For nearly ten years it blockaded chlorine to sanitize
the water and any equipment to rebuild the electricity grid, sanitation and
irrigation facilities. Even pencils for school children were prohibited. (A
New York Times editorial 2/11/01 reports, "currently American diplomats are
holding up billions of dollars of imports needed for civilian transportation,
electric power generation...and even medical treatment"). Finally the
Europeans rebelled at the cruelty and shamed Washington into allowing such
imports, (New York Times 12/6/00). Until oil prices increased last year,
sales ran about $4 billion yearly minus about 35% withheld by UN left 2.6
billion divided by 20 million population = $130 per year per person = 36
cents per day per person for food, medicine. Obviously Iraq needed to rebuild
its agriculture and transport infrastructure to feed itself, but this was
prevented by Washington.
Washington blockaded supplies to rebuild Iraq's bombed oil production and
refining facilities since 10 years, although it went to war supposedly to
assure oil supplies for the world. Iraq is now also getting substantial
monies through sales of smuggled oil, especially since the price of oil went
up and the rest of the world tires of the American blockade. No doubt some of
this goes for weapons purchases.

TWO – If Iraq allowed inspections for wmd (weapons of mass destruction),
Washington would remove the blockade. Iraq iraq must prove that it has no wmd
and that it won't manufacture any in the future.
ANSWER – There's No Connection Between Inspections and Sanctions on Iraq and
consequently no incentive for Iraq to comply. Equally No Nation can "prove" a
negative, that it's not doing something. Biological and chemical weapons can
be made, "in a large closet which is all the space you need to mix deadly
chemical weapons.. Chemical and biological weapons are the great
equalizers against our atomic weapons." (Time "Everyman a Superpower,"
11/24/97).
Re inspections, Reuters reported, 12/13/99, – "The (European) aim was to
prevent the United States and Britain from imposing arms requirements that
Iraq could not meet and thus keeping the sanctions in place for years to
come." And AFP 12/13/99, "French diplomats retorted that by insisting on full
cooperation, the council would give the United States an excuse to refuse to
suspend sanctions on the flimsiest grounds." Madeleine Albright declared in
1997: "We do not agree with the nations who argue that if Iraq complies with
its obligations concerning weapons of mass destruction, sanctions should be
lifted." Clinton went one step further when he said, "sanctions will be there
until the end of time, or as long as he [Saddam] lasts." The Bush
Administration has not repudiated these statements
Scott Ritter, former head of the U.N. arms inspection team in Iraq, on the
NBC Today Show, 12/17/98, explained, "Washington perverted the U.N. weapons
process by using it as a tool to justify military actions, falsely so. ...
The U.S. was using the inspection process as a trigger for war."

THREE – Iraq wouldn't let the UN/US monitors inspect possible wmd production
or storage sites. that's why America started bombing.
ANSWER – Iraq did so from 1991 until 1998, but Washington still wouldn’t
take off the trade blockade. Scott Ritter, the former UNSCOM inspector, told
CNN on 2/18 "In terms of large-scale weapons of mass destruction programs,
these had been fundamentally destroyed or dismantled by the weapons
inspectors as early as 1996, so by 1998 we had under control the situation on
the ground."
Then in 1998 Washington also demanded access to the Iraq's government
personnel files, the basis of the its power structure. Saddam saw that U.S.
demands were just always increased with no hope of sanctions being lifted.

FOUR – It's Iraq's fault that the blockade continues. America has nothing
against Iraq's people, only against its government.
ANSWER – Britain and Washington have introduced a "peace plan"demanding that
Iraq must allow

Spy files reveal US lied to beat Soviets in arms race

Robert Tait In Washington

THE UNITED States deliberately exaggerated the advancement of Ronald Reagan’s
"Star Wars" missile defence project to price the Soviet Union out of the cold
war, previously unreleased documents revealed yesterday.

US intelligence experts advised President Reagan that the 1980s Soviet
economy was too weak to enable it to respond with its own system and that
further development would force Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet leader, to the
negotiating table.

Details of the 1980s US strategy on Star Wars - the forerunner to President
George Bush’s proposed national missile defence - are contained in hitherto
classified documents released yesterday by the CIA.

Some 859 documents, containing 19,000 pages of cold war analysis written
between 1947 and 1991 - the year the Soviet Union collapsed - were released.
Despite the display of official openness, the reports have been carefully
censored to hide intelligence sources and sensitive information that could
affect contemporary US security interests.

All the same, they reveal the mixture of speculation, uncertainty, shrewd
analysis and misjudgment that characterised the US assessment of its
superpower adversary during the cold war. They show that the US overestimated
the Soviet military build-up between the mid-70s and 1980s.

Other documents predict that the selection of a Polish Pope, John Paul II, in
1978 would be "extremely worrisome to Moscow" because it would make it more
difficult for the Soviet Union to keep Catholic Poland integrated into a
rigid Communist system.

The released documents also reveal the CIA admitting it had "no eyes and
ears" in the Soviet Union in the early years of the cold war, during the
1940s and early 1950s.

"We have no reliable inside intelligence on thinking in the Kremlin," a
top-secret 1953 report stated, adding that there would be no means of
obtaining information in the event of a surprise attack.

It was only the advent of the U2 spy plane - one of which was later shot down
over Soviet territory - and the Corona spy satellite in the late 50s that the
US was able to best the Soviets in the quality of intelligence.

A 1963 document revealed a split within the upper echelons of the US
intelligence community over just how close the United States and Soviet
Russia had come to nuclear war over the Cuban missile crisis of October the
previous year.

However, the advice given to the Reagan administration by the CIA over Star
Wars proved prescient. The agency predicted in 1987 that the Soviet Union was
likely to pursue arms control measures in return for US concessions on
missile defence - a scenario that ultimately came to pass.

But, in a forerunner to the contemporary debate over national missile
defence, the agency predicted that the Soviets would try to foment European
opposition to star wars by portraying it as a threat to Washington’s
commitment to defending western Europe.

The documents reveal that, after Mr Reagan announced his Star Wars project -
a space-based defence against nuclear attack - in 1983 the US deliberately
deceived the Soviets over the extent to which its development was proceeding.

The released documents include several analysis of Mikhail Gorbachev’s
policies of glasnost and perestroika and reveal how puzzling the then new
Soviet leader was to US analysts. In 1986 ,the CIA analysed Mr Gorbachev’s
anti-alcohol campaign and concluded that success in curtailing alcohol abuse,
at a time when consumption had doubled over the prior 30 years, would
strengthen his political position.

Lloyd Salvetti, director of the CIA’s Centre for the Study of Intelligence -
unveiling the documents yesterday - compared studying the Gorbachev regime to
"trying to keep pace with a rapidly moving train".

CLASS WARFARE
It's Back in Fashion

David Corn is the Washington editor of the Nation. His first novel, Deep
Background, a political thriller, was published recently by St. Martin's
Press.

Class warfare is alive and well in Washington, DC.

Last summer, after Al Gore delivered his populist-lite acceptance speech at
the Democratic National Convention -- in which he pledged to combat powerful
interests on behalf of common folk -- Republicans and much of the chattering
class hooted him for resorting to old-fashioned get-the-rich classism and
proclaimed that his desperate tactics would be soundly rejected by The
People.

After the election was finally resolved, New Democrats -- those bankrolled by
corporate lobbyists -- attributed Gore’s defeat to his down-beat populism (as
diluted and last-minute as it was), and they echoed the conventional wisdom
that us-against-them rhetoric is a thing of the past and does not reflect the
realities of the New Economy. All these predictions and analyses, though,
were undermined by the numbers, for Gore did draw more popular votes than
George W. Bush. And had the Supreme Court not intervened in the fiasco in
Florida, Gore probably would have pulled ahead in the statewide recount
ordered by the state supreme court. Consequently, it’s hard to argue his line
of attack was an obvious mistake. Nevertheless, his loss has not side-lined
class warfare -- just open talk of it, for the Republicans have been
advancing their silent form of class conflict on various fronts.

Battle one -- the Bush tax cut. After Bush made nice-nice with the Democrats
-- and suckered them into seconding his empty rhetoric about bipartisanship
-- his Republican allies in the House rolled the Democrats on legislation
encompassing the central provision of the Bush tax cut. There is no denying
that Bush and the House GOPers rushed through a measure that by lowering tax
brackets sends far more "relief" to higher-income Americans than lower-income
Americans. The top 1 percent would get about 44 percent of the Bush tax
give-back, according to Citizens for Tax Justice. The GOPers argue this is
only natural since the rich pay more in taxes. But by one estimate, the
1-percenters pay 39 percent. Thus, even by Bushian standards, they will
pocket more than their fair share. (When Bush's Treasury Department released
figures on the distributional impact of the President's proposed tax cut, it
conveniently left out the calculation for the top 1 percent, which previous
administrations customarily included.)

There’s no compelling need to structure a tax cut in favor of the wealthy. If
the goal is to send $2 trillion back to people to spark the sluggish economy,
why not zap it all to middle- and low-income citizens? Is it better that a
boost in consumer spending be Lexus-driven rather than Taurus-driven?

This was how Republicans and the corporate lobby tried to demonstrate the
Bush tax cut is good for working Americans: the National Association of
Manufacturers sent out a memo to business groups that urged lobbyists to show
up at Capitol Hill tax cut rally wearing hard hats and non-business attire.
"WE DO NEED BODIES -- they must be DRESSED DOWN, [to] appear to be REAL
WORKER types, etc," said the note, which was obtained by the Washington Post.
Camouflage -- just like in real warfare -- to hide the truth.

Under the House measure, the top 1 percent would see their after-tax income
go up 3.8 percent, the bottom 20 percent, 0.6 percent, according to the
Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Why shouldn’t those numbers be
flipped? Millions of low-income Americans who pay little, if any, income
taxes but who are socked by Social Security taxes would realize no relief
under this plan. And the Bush/GOP tax cuts are based on iffy surplus
projections, so there’s a possibility that down the road the tax cuts will
have to be paid for by reductions in social spending or a raid on the Social
Security surplus -- either of which would likely hurt the poor more than the
affluent.

In order to beat back the Bush offensive, the Democrats will have to persuade
Americans the tax cut of this charming and friendly fella is unfair, and that
means they have to spell out who wins and who loses. ("Our strategy at the
moment," quips one congressional Democratic aide, "is to wait for Strom
Thurmond to die.") If the Democrats don’t want to acknowledge they are in the
middle of class warfare, perhaps they can refer to it as a "policy dispute
involving population strata distributional benefits." Still, they are going
to have to ask people, which side -- or strata -- are you on?

Battle two -- the ergonomics rules. In response to one of the most intense
corporate lobby blitzes in years, the Republicans in the House and Senate --
aided by several conservative Democratic senators -- voted to deep-six the

Princess Diana Could Have Been Saved, Says Medic

LONDON (Reuters) - A leading heart surgeon has said that Britain's Princess
Diana could have been saved if she had been rushed to hospital quicker.

Christian Barnard, who was a friend of the Princess of Wales, writes in a new
book that she could have been saved if she had reached hospital within 10
minutes of the 1997 high-speed car crash in Paris, the Sunday Telegraph said.

``My opinion is that they made a mistake not rushing her to hospital quicker
because her bleeding could only be stopped by surgery,'' said pioneering
surgeon Barnard in his book ``50 Ways To A Healthy Heart,'' which is to be
published in May.

``I understand they spent up to an hour at the scene of the accident,'' he
said.

Barnard, based in South Africa, said according to the autopsy Diana died of
internal bleeding as the result of injury to the pulmonary vein. He said such
an injury would not lead to rapid loss of blood.

``What I want to say here is, that, if Princess Diana had been brought to
hospital within 10 minutes of the accident -- something which should easily
have been possible -- and once there, had been cared for properly, she could
have survived.''

Diana's companion Dodi Al Fayed and their driver Henri Paul also died in the
crash. Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived.

The Telegraph quoted a French doctor, who arrived quickly on the scene as he
had been traveling in the opposite direction at the time of the crash, as
saying Diana was in the best shape of the four.

Frederic Maillez said Diana had ``looked pretty fine...I thought this woman
had a chance.''An official French inquiry found that the accident was the
result of ``loss of control,'' the speed of the vehicle and alcohol.

There is not a shred of scientific evidence presented below for these
speculations. In my opinion, this kind of letter, because it lacks
any scientific documentation and would sound like a paranoid rant to
conventional scientists, increases the likelihood that officials will
dismiss any future serious attempts to study these phenomena. I'd be
interested, however, in hearing what Senator Lieberman's science
   advisors
   think of these speculations.

Hi All - Fortunately the poster's opinions are not driving public
interest policy. If they were, the perpetrators of tectonic warfare
against Seattle and Vancouver would clearly have won.

We are now discussing applied environmental war research. The citizens
of Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA personally experienced an earthquake
last week and it feels to a growing population here that the earthquake
was a tectonic EM event. So much so that the West Coast media is now,
Thank God, moving into the story for which EcoNews has served as
  phalanx.

EcoNews original news article on the EM tectonic event references a book
on the EM-tectonic environmental war scenario. The book forms the
research basis for the article. Last I counted the book on which the
article is based is about 100,000 words long, with numerous scientific
references. Included in the news story is a link to a FREE copy of the
  book.

In a word, the above post acts out the role here of what the Bolshevik
intelligence agencies technically called "A Useful Idiot".
In intelligence agency parlance, a useful idiot is a civilian who
publicly defends the disinformation around a secret project, and attacks
critics of the disinformation. Key is that the useful idiot act in
  subjective good faith.

This is not the first time HAARP has been defended on MC-L. Ever since I
joined MC-L, the poster vociferously attacked any analysis showing that
HAARP had a mind control function. For two years he attacked any of us
researchers who brought information to the list suggesting that HAARP
  affected the human limbic system.

Fnally, when evidence emerged of a signal embedded within HAARP that did
affect the limbic system, the poster relented. In the meantime two
precious years of fighting HAARP had been lost, not to mention countless
researchers and members of the public who had been hoodwinked.

Well, speaking on behalf of those of us citizens and researchers who
actually PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED the Seattle-Vancouver earthquake and the
EM transmissions that went along with it, that misleading will not
  happen again.

Bombs Over Buddha

There is something hilarious about the worldwide horror at the Taliban’s
proposal to destroy Afghanistan’s Buddhist statues, including the
two giant Buddhas in the central Bamiyan province. The Bamiyan
statues date back to the centuries of Buddhist rule that preceded the
arrival of Islam in the ninth century AD. Despite the protests, the Taliban
are in no mood to hang about. Using anti-aircraft weapons, tanks
and explosives, they have already destroyed large parts of the figures.
Western leaders issued statements laced with piety and sanctimony.
Up until two weeks ago none of them had even known that there were
Buddhist statues in Afghanistan. Now they are all aficionados of
museums. However, the last thing they want to be caught doing is
expressing hostility towards Islam.

State Department spokesman Richard Boucher called the ancient
statues "an important part of the world’s cultural legacy and the cultural
heritage of Afghanistan…. The United States joins...other governments
in urging a halt to the destruction by the Taliban of a significant aspect
of Afghans’ cultural heritage." Following their meeting in Trieste,
Italy, the environment ministers of the G-8 group of industrialized
nations issued this gaseous statement: "Mindful that the diversity of
natural and human systems is at the core of sustainable development,
we express dismay and shock at reports of the edict of the Taliban
leadership." "Afghanistan’s rich cultural heritage," the statement
went on, "is of vital importance not only to the people of Afghanistan
but also to the world as a whole." The European Union too got into the
act. In a statement issued in Pakistan by Sweden, the EU condemned
the destruction: "The Presidency of the European Union strongly
condemns this crime against the world’s common heritage and deeply
regrets that it has taken place in the name of one of the world’s
important religions." German Culture Minister Julian Nida-Ruemelin –
inevitably – compared the destruction of the statues to the burning of
books by the Nazis. "This is about a piece of global cultural heritage
which the rest of the world cannot be indifferent to" he declaimed.

UNESCO sent an emissary to Kabul to negotiate a "solution"
with the Taliban. New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art
offered to pay to have the giant Buddhas removed from the country.
There has also been a proposal to build a giant
wall in front of the statues so as to hide them from Islamic
eyes. But Taliban Foreign Minister Wakil Ahmad Muttawakil
dismissed these ideas. "We have all sorts of possibilities
to maintain them or to keep them out of sight," he explained, "Our
verdict wants their annihilation." His hands were tied, he explained. Any
alternative to the destruction would fail to satisfy Islamic law: "Our
decree is based on Islamic orders and…we will spare no pre-Islamic
or post-Islamic era statues."

"World’s cultural legacy," "global cultural heritage," "diversity of natural
and human systems," "one of the world’s important religions" – such
grandiloquent phrases roll easily off the tongues of the guardians of
the New World Order. Or at least occasionally they do. For the
destruction of the Buddhist statues is hardly the first instance in recent
times of Islamic intolerance towards other religions. For at least two
years, Albanian Moslems have waged a systematic campaign to
annihilate the "rich cultural heritage" – to use the appropriate phrase
 – of the Eastern Orthodox Church in Kosovo. This has taken place
while the province has been under military occupation by NATO and
under the nominal jurisdiction of the United Nations. Yet this destruction
has evoked very little protest and virtually no condemnation. The Met
has not offered to pony up some cash to save precious cultural artifacts.
UNESCO has not rushed an emissary over to Pristina to undertake
urgent negotiations with the KLA. The loss of Europe’s Christian
heritage clearly is a matter of very little importance. Here is a tiny
sample of the devastation wrought by this reign of Islamic terror (rather
nearer to home than Afghanistan):

The Monastery of the Holy Trinity, built in the 14th century, housed a
valuable collection of manuscripts from 14th to 18th centuries. It was
plundered, burnt and then leveled to the ground by explosives.

The medieval Monastery of St. Mark of Korisa, built in
1467 with a single-nave, a rectangular foundation and a
preserved fragment of the original, ancient fresco, housed
a major book collection. It was robbed and burnt prior to having been
completely destroyed by explosives.

The Monastery of St. Archangel Gabriel, built in the
14th century, had a rectangular foundation, a semi-round apse and a
semi-cylindrical vault. A number of the 14th century liturgical vessels
were kept in the church. The monastery was first looted and then set
on fire. Finally, it was completely destroyed by

BREMERTON, Washington - Oceans off the Bahamas
seem lonelier this winter as whale researchers scan the
water for the beaked whales they have been studying for
   years, a scientist says.

At least some of the whales were caught in a Navy
exercise nearly a year ago, and now Ken Balcomb fears
many whales were killed by sonar.

Balcomb, who divides his time between Washington
state's San Juan Islands and the Bahamas, has spent
years identifying beaked whales. Now, the only ones he
sees are strangers - probably visitors from other areas.

Balcomb, of the Center for Whale Research, is normally
a reserved and cautious scientist. Recently, he sent a
strongly worded letter to the Navy warning that the
proposed deployment of a new low-frequency sonar
system could have devastating effects on whales
   throughout the world.

The Navy has acknowledged that sonar may have
contributed to the deaths of seven whales in the
Bahamas. The whales beached themselves last March
15 during an exercise involving five ships.

A natural phenomenon, called a "surface duct," may have
transmitted greater volumes of sound to lower depths,
   according to a report.

The National Marine Fisheries Service suggested that
the whales may have become disoriented by the sound
   and died due to beaching.

Balcomb is calling for better analysis.

"Considering the observed damage to the whales that
stranded and died and the short time period between
stranding and death, the NMFS statement that the
whales died from stranding is patently absurd," Balcomb
said in his letter. "The whales that we observed
swimming toward shore and stranding were only the
temporary survivors of an acoustic holocaust that can be
   likened to fishing with dynamite."

Balcomb contends the Navy has not adequately
considered how loud noise from sonar may resonate
within air chambers located in the whales' skulls.

"The killing is largely due to resonance phenomena in
the whales' cranial air spaces that are tearing apart
delicate tissues around the brain and ears," Balcomb
said in his letter. "This is an entirely separate issue from
auditory thresholds and traumas that the Navy has
   fixated upon."

Balcomb's letter uses mathematical equations to describe
the relationship between the size of air spaces and the
   resulting resonance.

He also questions whether the Navy has proposed
adequate precautions with its new low-frequency sonar,
which he says can create resonance frequencies.

"The Navy has consistently tried to de-link the
low-frequency active sonar with the normal sonar," he
said. "If you really investigate resonance, you will see
   there is a common denominator."

Joe Johnson, who leads a team studying the
environmental impacts of low-frequency sonar, said
laboratory studies were done to measure resonance
effects on rats, mice and guinea pigs.

It takes a fairly steady tone to create resonance, he said.

Is Greenspan Fighting Phantom Recession?

By Pierre Belec

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Nearly two years ago, Alan Greenspan (news -
web sites) began raising interest rates to head off ``inflation'' and now he's
chopping away at rates to head off ``recession.'' As it turned out, he was
fighting phantom inflation and people are wondering if he is now combating
a phantom recession.

One expert says the Federal Reserve (news - web sites) chairman has
gotten it wrong before and he may be missing the bull's-eye, again.

``First, the Fed was raising rates to fight inflation, which did not exist and
now it is lowering rates to fight a recession, which we feel does not exist,''
says Penny Russell, economist at H. C. Wainwright Co., Economics Inc.

While the Fed was raising interest rates to a 10-year high between 1999
and 2000, the Consumer Price Index (news - web sites), which tracks
inflation at the retail level, edged up less than 1.5 percentage points and
the core rate that excludes volatile food and energy prices went up even
less.

Greenspan's tight money policy succeeded too well as the economy's
growth has nearly stalled. In January this year, the central bank launched a
bold move: preemptive rate cuts for fear that the six interest-rate hikes had
put the economy at risk of recession.

Smart move? No, says Russell, dismissing the Fed's assurance that it can
figure out to the nth degree when the economy is facing a killer problem,
like a recession.

``What's happening is that we have been through an economic period when
things were so extraordinary and when they go back to just ordinary, people
seem to be more concerned than they should,'' Russell says.

DID GREENSPAN's RATE HIKES CHOKE ECONOMY?

``So it would appear,'' says Russell. ``But the truth is that no one at the Fed -
- not even its illustrious chairman -- is capable of managing a large and
complex economy like the U.S. or of knowing just when to raise and when
to lower interest rates to keep growth within a predesignated range.''

Greenspan, who worried that the stock market was too high-priced in 1999,
went on a rate-raising spree instead of allowing Wall Street to correct its
excess in its own sweet time. The result of this hands-on money policy: the
rapid destruction of $3 trillion in stock market wealth and disillusioned
households that caused consumer confidence to plunge.

Falling stock prices made a lot of Americans feel poor because many of
them looked at the market during the great boom years between 1995 and
1999 as a savings account with tremendously good yields.

The market's monster reversal, which sent the Nasdaq down an eye-
popping 55 percent from its high during a 12-month period, shook
consumer confidence in a New York minute. The reason that the
apprehension spread so fast was because more than 50 percent of U.S.
households have a stake in the stock market through retirement accounts.

Russell favors benign neglect and monetary neutrality rather than the Fed's
jockeying, which she says destabilizes both the economy and stock
market.

``Now, if the Fed could be persuaded to leave rates alone and let all the
ripples die out, there is no reason that the economy could not get back on
the fast track,'' she says. ''Noninterference would be even more stimulative
than a tax cut.''

Greenspan and his fellow bankers have been known to fumble the ball.
They misread the handwriting on the wall in 1990-91 when a recession was
slamming the economy and fell asleep at the wheel.

So the Fed, which is now racing to keep the economy from tipping into
recession, is faced with a dilemma on whether to cut interest rates for a
third time this year. It has made two cuts each of 50 basis points in January
after boosting rates by 175 basis points from June 1999 to May 2000.

Russell says that if interest rates had been left alone in 1999-2000, the
economy would have slowed down by itself, ``gently not abruptly and we
would have been enjoying higher growth than we are now.''

The betting is that the Fed again will lower by 50 basis points at its March
20 policy-setting meeting.

Recession Isn'T In The Cards

Even the numbers crunchers say that an old reliable measuring stick -- the
nation's money supply, also known as M2 -- is not emitting signals of a
recession. M2 has jumped at an annual rate of more than 10 percent over
the last three months, which means the Fed is printing more money to
pump up the softening economy.

``Since the M2 series began in 1959, the U.S. economy has never entered
a recession with the real M2 growth this high,'' says Paul Kasriel, head of
economic research at Northern Trust Co. ``The additional 50 basis points
of cuts we are forecasting to occur by March 20 would be expected to
boost nominal M2 growth still more.''

Russell says the Fed appears to be focusing too much on momentary
changes in the economy.

``The central bank is overreacting to what is happening in the economy,''
she

[CTRL] MC:Mass Mind Control in the Present-Day U.S. -- The big picture

2001-03-10 Thread DIG alfred webre

-Caveat Lector-

From Newshawk:

Mass Mind Control in the Present-Day U.S. -- The big picture

There are a number of interlocking systems, technologies and techniques
which are currently being deployed against the citizens of the United
States of America by certain segments of our national government.

First, there are literally COUNTLESS mind-control projects and
sub-projects in operation at this time which target SPECIFIC
subjects/victims in a variety of ways; using one or more of a number of
technologies such as drugs, (ritual) psycho-sexual abuse, a vast panoply
of different EM/RF mind control technologies, repetitive conditioning,
hypnotic trance induction, and so on and on and on.

Reliable reports from MANY different sources indicate that as many as
TEN MILLION individuals many be ACTIVE subjects/victims of these kinds
of mind control activities, and huge quantities of hard documentation on
a great many of these projects DOES exist.

However, in addition to these kinds of mind control operations, there are
ALSO mind control and mind manipulation activities that target MASSES
of people in large geographical regions at the same time. Indeed, there
is VERY strong evidence that the operators of HAARP for example, have
ever since HAARP's earliest days intended that it be used for, among many
 other things, GLOBAL mind control.

There is in FACT much evidence to show that HAARP is NOW being used for
just such utterly evil purposes by the United States federal government.

Of course, there are many other EM/RF technologies and systems which
are, or may be, applied to mass-scale mind, mood, thought and
consciousness control/manipulation operations: such as the nationwide
"GWEN" (Ground Wave Emergency Network) system, certain ELF and ULF
transmitter systems, and so on (such as your TV set, even IF it's turned
OFF!)

Another way to manipulate and "regulate" the minds and consciousness of
a mass of people at a VERY basic, fundamental level is to CONTROL the
population's PRIMARY sources of INFORMATION. This is one of the MOST
powerful ways shape the collective consciousness of the public, and it is
CLEAR that many mass media outlets in the United States are both
willingly and un-wittingly aiding and abetting the manipulation of
our minds by the government, and are assisting the FedGov in carrying out
 many social-engineering agendas.

The mass media's treatment of school shooting incidents, for instance,
plays DIRECTLY and TOTALLY into the schemes of those who deployed the
mind-controlled killers to carry out these shootings, in a grand plan to
shut down our Constitution's 2nd Amendment, among other things.

Moreover, very carefully designed CONDITIONING programs and tactics have
 been brought to bear against nearly EVERY segment of society;
disseminated throughout the nation and the world by mass media and
entertainment industries and corporations; and imbedded in ALL forms of
so-called entertainment at this point, such as movies, TV shows, video
and computer games ESPECIALLY, some pop music, and so on.

This condition of constant, relentless bombardment with grotesquely violent
imagery, which the general population, ESPECIALLY its younger members, is
inundated with by nearly ALL forms of popular contemporary entertainment and
sources of "information", is indeed directly derived from those
mind-conditioning programs and systems developed at Fort Detrick (and
other similar locations). San Diego shooter Charles Williams' father
worked at the Army's Fort Detrick facility for THIRTEEN YEARS.

Specifically, indoctrination/conditioning programs were developed at
Fort Detrick in which subjects were repeatedly, continually and
continuously immersed in virtual reality-type video/computer "games"
of extreme and GRAPHIC brutality, for long stretches of time and
 over an extended time frame.

This kind of psychological assault proved very effective in rapidly
obliterating subjects' ethical and moral values and cultural norms with
regard to violence, brutality, killing and so on.

These systems were perfected, applied to the brainwashing and
conditioning of members of the U.S. military and also turned over to
the intelligence sectors for other applications. The intelligence sector,
in turn, DELIBERATELY and successfully undertook to have this same kind
of HIGHLY negative, destructive and effective conditioning applied to
SOCIETY AS A WHOLE, via mass conditioning of our consciousness through
the entertainment and information industries, as noted.

One OTHER method of mass mind control/manipulation/conditioning which is
NOW being utilized MORE and MORE -- ESPECIALLY against the most
vulnerable members of our society, our CHILDREN -- is the
 highly-reprehensible/questionable and increasingly common MANDATED
DRUGGING of ever-growing numbers of children through hugely intrusive,
invasive, ill-advised, psychologically unpredictable and often
 destructive

-Caveat Lector-

radman says:

democrats fight back? yeah right!! when pigs flythey're still busy
beating up on Nader...sheesh.. and considering Mary F. Berry (the Pacifica
demoness) is at point on the Civil Rights, (with Ashcroft now sticking his
nose in) it looks like the voting charades will continue indefinitely...I
don't expect anything except an increased measure of control when they
standardize the voting systems...as the vestiges of legitimacy crumble, the
measures of control become more forceful...we really are living in rad times...

[p.s.-- Does anybody know what Al Franken said or did?]

03-11-01: It is time to fight back

By Jerry Fees

March 11, 2001-Thank you Al Franken. It's about damn time we woke up and
started using the word liar. Why is it that the Republicans and their
media mouthpieces can make up their facts as they go and continuously get
away with it? (Bill O'Reilly can claim he's not a Republican but we know
better and we sure as hell won't claim him.) Why is it that Herr
Goebbels', . . . I mean Rove's, propaganda machine runs unchecked
spitting out one distortion after another? I'll tell you why. It's because
we've been acting like a bunch of scared children, afraid we're going to
appear shrill and be called sore losers. That's what they're saying anyway
so what the heck, let's fight back!

As much as I respect Al Gore for his dignity and grace under fire, he had
no business allowing Bush and that bunch of self-righteous heathens to
talk to him like they did. The audacity of any one of that thieving, lying
Bush clan to call Gore, or anyone else for that matter, a liar. They have
no shame. Al took the high road and look at the mess it left us in.

We need to forget this whole civility charade and get on with the program.
It's only 21 months till the 2002 election and we've got work to do. I saw
that moron Hannity on TV last night, and he and one of his GOP puppets,
Bill Dal Col, (they call this guy a Republican strategist, I call him a
liar) were talking about the economy. Col made the observation that we
have a 7 trillion dollar economy with a 3.5 trillion dollar debt. What
happened to the other 2.1 trillion dollars of debt? Look it up for
yourselves. It would appear that, for the sake of political expediency,
the Republican strategists (see liars) want to confuse the public by
separating the amount of debt held in private hands overseas and in
central banks ($3.5 trillion) from the amount owed to the Social Security,
Medicare and other trust funds ($2.1 trillion). The last time the national
debt was $3.5 trillion was 1991.

Hannity then went on to cry crocodile tears about government spending. The
Republicans are up to their collective ears in pork and he knows it. They
went on a spending spree last year (a record $284 billion in non-defense
spending) that forever ended their right to call themselves conservatives.
Conservative about what? Certainly not in the use of lies. Hannity can't
hardly open his mouth that he doesn't tell a lie. The reason I even
mention these guys is that they're a microcosm of the problem as a whole.
Lies followed by misdirection and what do we do about it? Nothing! Turn
the other cheek. That's getting old real fast and it just plays into their
hands. We have absolutely nothing to gain from this tactic. Do you think
we'll win votes this way? We already have enough votes if we can just get
them counted. It's in our best interest to fight back and call them liars.
Let's just do it!

Bush proposes a budget with a 4 percent rate of increase, knowing full
well the Congress will have to spend more than that. Ask Pete Domenici.
He's already acknowledged it won't be enough. Of course it won't be
enough. As dumb as Bush is, he knew what he was doing. Now he can go to
the people and point out what the evil Congress is doing, especially those
mean old tax and spend Democrats trying to wreck the economy by funding
those wretched social programs. Liar, liar, liar. My Grandma Rohrscheib
would wash his mouth out with soap. If a little old lady with a southern
accent shows up in Washington looking for W with some Irish Spring in her
hand, I hope he gets what he's got coming.

Get with it Tom, Dick and the rest of you spineless wimps. We are your
people and we demand you go after these guys. The Black Congressional
Caucus and Terry McAuliffe look to me to be the only ones left that still
have their guts.

I have no idea why we as a party have decided to get sucked into this
civility ploy when it is such a transparent ruse. I do know this though,
if we continue to lie down for Rove and his propaganda machine, we will
pay for it.

We can ride this out together but our elected officials are going to have
to be a lot more plain spoken and we're all going to have to follow Al
Franken's example. Seek out a specific case of Republican lies,
investigate it and
