Bug#298578: xmms-scrobbler: makes xmms crash with certain songs

2005-03-08 Thread Pieter Naaijkens
Package: xmms-scrobbler
Version: 0.3.7-1
Severity: important

I have some songs that make XMMS crash when the audioscrobbler plugin is
trying to read the tag information. When I disable the plugin,
everything works fine. The audioscrobbler debug messages aren't of any
help. Here is a backtrace:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

I haven't done any further research with gdb, since I'm not terribly

there it seems the bug is in the id3v2 part, here in the APE part. The
file doesn't contain any APE tags. If it is helpful, I can send the MP3
on request.

Thanks in advance.

Same as #279484 (susv2). Are you planning on NMU that too? BTW; I

I was not aware of it, but now that I see it I will fix with the attached

Okay. FYI it appears that dh_clean was not called, as your patch

The argument is a pointer to a termio structure.
Those terminal parameters that can be stored in a

I have a hunch that TCSETAF is used in more applications, so a bug in
the former might be overlooked.

Maybe its a kernel or libc bug after all?

I suspect that, but don't have an easy way to prove it. There are a couple of
things that are related:

Some time ago there were comments to the effect that the PowerPC port had
changed some of the I/O structs incompatibly, causing some isolated failures.
I mentioned that to Brandon when this bug came up, but his opinion was that
those problems had been dealt with.

The other is whether the connection is remote or local (I don't have the other
report at hand, but seem to recall that this problem happens on local
connections).

 All the best,
 Jochen

PS.: I was unsure which bug report entry I should forward this
information to. I choose my copy of the bug report. Hope that this
 is ok.

that's fine (Brandon may merge them as he needs to).

Bug#298580: phpbb2 uses sometime the wrongcharset for postgres

2005-03-08 Thread Florian Reitmeir
Package: phpbb2
Version: 2.0.12-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

our postgres uses UTF8, the apache server on default iso-8859-1 and the
templates provided from the package are also using this charset.

first, in 2005 it should be standard to use iso-8859-15 so the Euro
Curreny Symbol is shown correctly.

for the apache config a
php_value default_charset iso-8859-15

would do the correct thing, so adding this to the config example would
be nice.

Then the connection php - database is broken, because like we
mentioned we use UTF8 (i don't no, if mysql has proper charset
handling).

We fixed the database layer, always to do the correct thing:

pam_usb is a PAM module that enables authentication using an USB-Storage
device (such as an USB Pen) through DSA private/public keys.

It can also work with other devices, such as floppy disks or cdroms. It
can be setup to work with any application using PAM such as your

The package I made is available here:

Bug#297796: emacs21: FTBFS: timestamp skew issues.

2005-03-08 Thread Jérôme Marant
Quoting Rob Browning [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Rob, do you have any idea about how to fix this?

The only thing I've thought of so far is to change debian/rules to not
rely on timestamps for this file. Instead keep a file of the md5sums
of the *.dpatch files and use that and cmp to determine when to
 re-generate. i.e. (in psudeo-make code):

   define update_autofiles_diff_if_needed
 md5sum debian/*.dpatch debian/tmp-dpatch.md5
 if ! cmp debian/dpatch.md5 debian/tmp-dpatch.md5; \
 then \
   $(update_debian_autofiles_diff); \
   md5sum debian/*.dpatch debian/dpatch.md5; \
 fi
   endef

Then I'd just have to arrange for this action to be taken at all the
appropriate times. A bit ugly perhaps, but it looks like it might
 work.

To my mind, we should avoid to do this automatically from the makefile
and generate a dpatch manually every we have to regenerate the
configure script.

Currently, the only file which is modified when changing configure.in
is configure, so this should be straightforward.

Cheers,

Adam, thank you, this solved my problem.

But... as far as I know, my predecessor took php4-gd2 not only
because of the gd-version 2 needed (php4-gd*2* for the naiv one,
see below), but also because of the information given in
/var/lib/dpkg/available:

Package: php4-gd2

This package provides a module for handling graphics directly from

compiled with libgd2, so it has more functions, but it may happen,
   ^^

As others may be confused as well, is there a way to explain the
situation you discribed in the package information of php4-gd2?

Hmmm, reading php4-gd:

Package: php4-gd

Replaces: php4-cgi-gd, php4-gd2
Provides: php4-gd2
...Ok...
Description: GD module for php4
This package provides a module for handling graphics directly from

As long as php4-gd2 also exists, wouldn't it be a good idea to
explicitly write that this is linked against libgd2?

Once more: thank you. The application is running again just fine!

True, though there's no guarantee of that. Some newer version of

source tree elements that older versions didn't. That's the reason
for the current approach:

  - apply all the other patches to a temp tree
  - run the appropriate autofoo on the temp tree
  - diff the temp tree and the original tree

More generally, even though the current autofiles.diff patch for
emacs21 only contains changes to configure, I was hoping to create a
solution that was as automatic as possible, one that could work on any
package using the autotools. A key presumption was that there's no
way to predict what changes a given version of the autotools might
make to the source tree (especially in cases where additional
autotools like automake and libtool are involved).

Bug#167367: inetd-xinetd config converter breaks amanda

  Hi,

On November 02, 13:56 (+0100), Andrea Borgia wrote:
Could you please send your inetd.conf and the resulting xinetd.conf ?
Here they come. I just had a confirmation of this problem: after upgrading to
xinetd, amcheck complained of permission problems on localhost for all
partitions which are set to be backupped with dump (only for those, no
problem was reported for the Windows partitions set to use tar!)

Sorry for the delay, but someone might have found a solution to your
  problem.

Could you try to specify the additional configuration instruction to
  the amanda-related stanzas of your xinetd.conf :

groups = yes

Hope you're still using these things :)

  Thanks,

I select sungem (Benjamin Herrenschmidt has confirmed me that all recent

selection menu.

lspci is not available, but here is an extract from /proc/pci (I don't

Removing and inserting sungen, crc32 and sungen_phy works seamlessly but
does not bring any change.

I've never shipped defoma support in our XFree86 packages because:

1) I never managed to understand defoma despite multiple attempts to
comprehend the documentation;

2) It seems to be nearly orphaned -- it has seen only two uploads in the
past year, one of which was an NMU. It is a Debian-native package and yet
has 2 important and 17 normal bug reports outstanding against it.

I cannot properly support that which I don't understand, and there's quite
enough of that just in the XFree86 codebase alone without adding to it.

The preference of the release managers that XFree86 stabilize for sarge
release has been expressed to me, and there are currently no plans for a
-13 release[1].

I could conceivably be persuaded that defoma is the way, the truth, and the
light, and that I should beseech the release managers to let a -13 with
defoma support added into sarge, but someone's got to make a case for it.
To the best of my recollection, no one has ever made such a case. All I
ever get are unexplained requests to add the same two Byzantine file
specifications to the default font path. (Also, these submitters never
seem to think about xfs and its default catalogue.)

I have almost as much aversion to cargo-cult configuration as I do to
cargo-cult programming.

Does someone want to take ownership of this issue, and intelligently
evangelize defoma?

Bug#298429: synaptic: Please include deborphan functionality

Thanks for your bugreport.

 Dear Synaptic maintainers

Synaptic is an excellent tool with great usability and really showcases
the power of Debian package management in a user friendly fashion.
 Thanks a lot for that!

Thanks, glad to hear :)

So I was wondering whether you would consider integrating the
functionality of deborphan via an additional entry 'Installed (orphan)'
when the 'Status' button is pushed. I like to keep my system clean and
thus am a frequent user of deborphan. It would be great to have this
 functionality available from within Synaptic.

If you have deborphan installed, you can create a custom filter that
displays you orphaned packages. Create it with Settings/Filters and
check the Orphaned checkbox in the status page.

I agree that it would be nice if the funtioncality would be easier
accessable.

Cheers,
 Michael

 Best regards
 Andree

Could you prepare a diff of your changes?

I will apply this once the concerns of Martin Steigerwald are addressed.
Specifically, I think the the retry cycle must be abortable.

Also, including some default commands for the common filesystem types seems
a good idea. ie: Check if it is ext3, xfs, reiserfs, and vfat automatically
before falling back on a user-supplied CRYPTDISKS_CHECK.

I have one of these new Dells at home running sarge/sid with an i910

have access at work to another type of dell workstation with a third
type of intel chipset, iirc. So I can test 2, maybe 3 chipsets, and am
willing to help develop as well.

I have a middling amount of debian packaging experience and plenty of
build maintenance experience, so I think I can take this on. I'll get
started by reading HACKING.txt and getting things building this weekend
 most likely.

Well, essentially, a patch would need to be prepped that resembled
debian/patches/000_stolen_from_xorg_nv_driver.diff (in the Debian xfree86
source package), but updated the i810 driver directory instead.

The bad news is that no more updates to xfree86 for sarge are planned.
A case can of course be made for this hardware support, but at this point
I'd need to involve the release management team.

What's the word on this licensing issue? I'm uncertain from reading all
the emails in this bug which codebases might or might not be tainted.

David Martínez Moreno appears to have addressed this issue. If you get
your patches from freedesktop.org CVS, it shouldn't be a problem.

Bug#289182: kino endianness issues on powerpc

On Mon, Feb 14, 2005 at 05:41:26PM +0100, Michael Schmitz wrote:
I can confirm the XV problem is the same old problem that a patch had
  been posted for in http://jira.schirmacher.de/jira-kino/browse/KINO-76.
I've added some #ifdef __BIG_ENDIAN__ around that, the following patch
should finally fix the display issue:

Err, this patch did fix the display problems for you!? It does not touch
a single line of code that was executed in the Debian build that uses
libdv to do the decoding. (Actually, this is no longer true as of today.

It did fix the xv problems for me - not sure what libdv version I was
using at that time. 0.103-2 is what I find in the package cache.
My guess is I didn't use libavcodec at first - preview speed was abysmal
and is quite decent now that I built against libdv4 plus libavcodec-cvs.
The patch is still required to fix byte ordering with libavcodec, however.

Now with ffmpeg in main, I've uploaded a new version that uses
libavcodec instead of libdv for the decoding part.) Furthermore, it
looks obviously buggy. Eg. the little-endian version of the first loop
uses values Y[0] and Y[1], while the big-endian variant reuses Y[0]
twice. And I can't make sense of the other array indices, either. I was
 expecting something like dest_big_endian = bswap_32(dest_little_endian);
maybe that's what was intended, and the current version of the patch

I took the patch from a URL mentioned in one of the comments in the BTS. I
had established that yuv byte ordering was broken by experimenting with
byteswappig schemes in displayer.cc but that, naturally, would not fix
export issues.

makes little difference with smooth input data? Anyway, what I remember
from years ago, Xv did expect image data in host-endian format with DRI
turned off, and in PCI-endian (little-endian) format with DRI turned on.

DRI is off in my case IIRC (I need to use UseFBDev in the server).

I'd be very interested to know whether this still holds true. (Cc'ing
debian-powerpc, hoping someone there might be able to help.)

Just saw a message by Michel Dänzer arrive in my inbox, seems he knew
something.

I've uploaded kino 0.75-5 that should make the archive by today's
dinstall run. It includes a comprehensive patch that might fix the
endianness problems with audio. Alas, I had to do some guessing on the
endianness of the input data, so it might actually do worse than before,
but in any case the framework is now in place to fix this with a few
keypresses. The second change in 0.75-5 related to this bug was the
mentioned switch from libdv to libavcodec for video decoding. There's a
small chance that it fixes the display problem out of the box already.

I'll test that ASAP.

Otherwise, I'll have to apply a cleaned up version of the cited patch.
In any case, this move should significantly boost decoding performance
on non-x86 and bring us a bit closer to getting kino usable on ppc and
 friends as well.

You bet - I was quite happy with ffmpeg (hacked to assume BE audio) as
export pipe plus libavcodec for decoding.

Michael

I think the documentation should be fixed in Sarge. Will Sarge release

HFS is _the_ native PPC filesystem. Parted's package description really
should be in sync with its major features. Why wait for 1.6.22 anyway?
It's fairly trivial to fix that.

Even better, please check the parted CVS tree at

Only debian/{control,README.Debian} are affected, it has nothing to do

and propose patches to K.G. for the documentation if needed.

Who's K.G.?

P.S. Note this bug affects parted and
libparted1.6-{12,i18n,dev,dbg,udeb}.
I would have filed it against the parted source package, but how does

The hurd package currently ships its own /bin/login and

As to why that is suid as well, Roland McGrath once said[0]:

If we can presume the password server works, then we can
clear the setuid bit here. (We could also remove the old

I guess this is a good opportunity to review our suid login as well.

Bug#298588: RFP: mpedit -- Minimum profit text editor for programmers

2005-03-08 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: mpedit
  Version : 3.3.11
  Upstream Author :
* URL : http://www.triptico.com/software/mp.html
* License : GPL
Description : Minimum profit text editor for programmers

(Include the long description here.)

Features

- Multiple files can be edited at the same time and blocks copied and
  pasted among them.

- Syntax highlighting for many popular languages / file formats: C,
C++, Perl, Shell Scripts, Ruby, Php, SQL, Python, HTML...

- Creative use of tags: tags created by the external utility ctags are
used to move instantaneously to functions or variables inside your
current source tree. Tags are visually highlighted (underlined), and
symbol completion can be triggered to avoid typing your own function
  names over and over.

- Intelligent help system: pressing F1 over any word of a text being
edited triggers the underlying system help (calling man when editing
C or Shell files, perldoc with Perl, ri on Ruby, winhelp on MS
  Windows...).

- Understandable interface: drop-down menus, reasonable default key
  bindings.

- Configurable keys, menus and colors.
- Text templates can be easily defined / accessed.
- Multiplatform: Console/curses, GTK+ (1.2 and 2.0), MS Windows.
- Automatic indentation, word wrapping, internal grep, learning /
  repeating functions.
- Search and replace using plain text or regular expressions
(including a special function to replace text on all open files).
- Small memory footprint.
- Multilingual.
- Password-protected, encrypted text files (using the ARCFOUR
  algorithm).
- It helps you abandon vi, emacs and other six-legged freaks
  definitely.
- Awesome easter egg.

possibly, if not i will backport the fix.

HFS is _the_ native PPC filesystem. Parted's package description really

It's fairly trivial to fix that.

Even better, please check the parted CVS tree at

Only debian/{control,README.Debian} are affected, it has nothing to do
 with upstream.

Oh, i misunderstood.

sorry, will apply it, feel free to send me a patch against those, would make
things easier for me.

Bug#298592: xfonts-artwiz: another author made an updated version

2005-03-08 Thread browaeys . alban
Package: xfonts-artwiz
Version: 1:1.3-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi looking around more bitmap fonts i end up on
http://artwizaleczapka.sourceforge.net/ .
This seems to be only a fix and extend version of the artwiz
fonts.

As told no the artwiz set author, http://www.vastwaters.com/ ,
it does not intend to work on his set for a long time. All the
previous material where removed.

The rework done seems to add more swedish and german version
which i am not really interested in :) But better support for
fontconfig (i think this is what it talks when telling better qt3
and gtk2 support) would be great !

I end up on htis font while looking for an awkward thing in
fontconfig cache : fonts without spacing parameter. 6 of them
where from the xfonts-artwiz pack, one from xfonts-base (ClearyU) and the
last from gtk-engines-xenophilia. I have not found out by now
which of the font or fontconfig are at fault but this improved
support could really help.

This is really a post sarge issue, maybe in between the version 2
of this set will be out (full iso-8859-1 support !) , though the
work seems stalled on it by now (latest news from may 2004, but
seeing the history of it , it is not uncommon).

Regards
Alban

global variable or something related.

Have a nice day,

Bug#298593: Installation report

2005-03-08 Thread Holger Dietze
Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version:
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-i386/20041118/
uname -a: Linux nelson 2.4.27-1-386 #1 Fri Sep 3 06:24:46 UTC 2004 i686 unknown
Date: 2005-03-07 21:00 CET
Method: boot from floppy, got installation packages from local
apt-proxy, which gets its packages mainly from ftp.de.debian.org

Machine: self-built
Processor: Pentium-II 350MHz
Memory: 256MB
Root Device: should be IDE disk, but see below
Root Size/partition table:
Output of lspci and lspci -n:

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot worked:[O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [ ]
Load installer modules: [E]
Detect hard drives: [E]
Partition hard drives: [E]
Create file systems:[ ]
Mount partitions: [ ]
Install base system:[ ]
Install boot loader:[ ]
Reboot: [ ]

Comments/Problems:
- initial boot worked fine
- when getting the kernel modules from the network, the packages file
was downloaded (both from my apt-proxy and directly from debian
mirror), but the installer refused to get the kernel modules citing a
kernel version mismatch between the booted kernel and the available
modules. Trying other some other mirrors and distributions was not
  successful

- on some earlier attempt, the loading of the driver floppy had some
problems (bad floppy). After the message that it has failed, the
installer got into an infinite loop (flashing white over black
  background)

Oops. You are correct; that bug had drifted off topic.
I am combining this into bug#258376.

When I try to create a crypto device on a physical device that is
already mounted elsewhere, cryptsetup gives the error message invalid
argument which is not helpful at all. This should be target device
 is already mounted.
Yep, pretty bad error message.

Thanks for your bugreport and sorry for my late reply. I think this

I have checked these errors and skimmed the entire new catalogue to some
degree. Looks like the german localisation of synaptic is in a fairly
bad state, many missing translations, and some should be corrected :-(

Now, here is an updated patch for Synaptic 0.55+cvs20050218-1.
Note it fixes a minor typo in a glade XML file, too, so it's not
 strictly a l10n patch.
Some items may be debatable. Please review.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm a bit overloaded right now. I'm
puzzled. The german translation in my svn repository seems to be fully
translated (but it probablystill contains bad translations :)

I'll try to have a look over your diff and see what patch still
applies and which does not. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. Thanks!

Cheers,
 Michael

Bug#298595: [i386] [20041118] [netinst] USB2 drive boot - failed to boot, an IBM workstation

2005-03-08 Thread Vassilii Khachaturov
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

I apologize in advance for not having collected all the possibly
relevant info about the machine. I have only had limited access to it
today; I'll try to collect more info off it later. Also, I'm not
allowed to open it and I don't have access to things like the
motherboard docs, although I am allowed to reinstall it as I please.
Please tell me if the lspci info (below) gives enough clues, or
if still more info is needed.

I am trying to boot sarge-i386 (the current image) off an M-Systems USB
2.0 drive, w/2 partitions, the 1st of them being prepared the easy way
as per http://d-i.pascal.at/ -- took the boot.img.gz off
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/
and did
zcat boot.img.gz /dev/sdb1
and then copied the netinst image manually over into the
partition initialized as above (after mounting it, of course).

When I try to boot, the system prints

Attempting to boot from the USB drive

Later on I tried doing
install-mbr /dev/sdb
and
syslinux /dev/sdb1
which both silently worked,
and boot after each of these 2 steps, but it didn't help. This is
what the USB disk looks like (from within another computer):

I agree that debian/copyright isn't in the right shape, I'll fix this ASAP.
However, I don't understand what you mean by installation overwrites
dhelp index file -- I'm just doing what the dhelp_parse man page
suggests to do, i.e. register the package in postinst and unregister
it in the prerm. I can add the doc-base file to make doc-base users
happy, but I don't see why the dhelp stuff should be removed. After
all, it was added after a wishlist bug was filed[0].

rmdir: `/usr/share/doc/gaim`: No such file or directory
Because there was an error in postinst, dpkg stops, saying there was an

2005-03-08 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Hi Noah,
as you may have noticed I started testing if some of wdm bugs are still
reproducible and sent a note to the submitters.
I also started looking ad the wdm source and asked for some help in the
wdm mailing list.

The good news is that some of the bugs are already fixed, the bad news
is that upstream author doesn't have time to keep working on wdm and is
probably looking for anyone willing to continue his work.

Bye,

Bug#298602: RFP: klibido -- KDE usenet news binary grabber

2005-03-08 Thread Brian Kimball
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: klibido
  Version : 0.2.1.1
Upstream Author : Alessandro Bauno Bonometti [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://klibido.sf.net/
* License : GPL
Description : KDE usenet news binary grabber

Klibido automates the tedious task of grabbing binaries off
usenet that are split across dozens of posts.

The main features of Klibido are:
-automatic joining and decoding of multi-part posts
-multiple servers support, with priorities and fallback servers if some
articles are not available on some servers
-queue balancing: KLibido spreads the bytes load across servers with the
  same priority
-multiple download threads per server support, with the ability to add or
  remove threads on the fly
-KParts interface for previewing posts (.nfo, images, etc...) inside the
  program
-pause, resume, cancel, and prioritize downloads

Klibido is still in beta stage, and as such some components may not
work as expected and may even crash the program. However, the author states:

if you treat it gently :-], it will work, and I've used it to download
two hundreds or so of Gigabytes without any major issue.

There's already a basic debian/ directory in the source
provided by Gonéri Le Bouder in 2001.

Package: amavis-stats
Severity: normal

Please find attached the updated french debconf templates translation.

This file should be put as debian/po/fr.po in your package build tree.

If you make some modifications to the *original* templates files (fixed
spelling, minor changes for respecting some conventions, etc.) please
notify me and send me the new fr.po file so that I may update it
_before_ uploading the new package.

Bug#298467: gaim.postinst doesn't work if directory doesn't already exist

2005-03-08 Thread Robert McQueen
Ari Pollak wrote:
Okay, but why would /usr/share/doc/gaim not exist at all? That link is
included in the gaim package.
I'm assuming there is some legitimate situation that we have not forseen
which causes /usr/share/doc/gaim to not exist, otherwise the reporter
wouldn't have run into the bug and filed it. I'm not against making the
postinst script more cautious provided it does its job - when upgrading
from a package with /usr/share/doc/gaim as a directory, it should remove
it and make the symlink, because dpkg will not do that for us. Given
that I can't work out the situation a missing /usr/share/doc/gaim arises
in, I don't think it's worth a seperate upload though, so pencil it in
for our next upload?

Bug#257062: Please include the new intel driver

debian/patches/000_stolen_from_xorg_nv_driver.diff (in the Debian

The bad news is that no more updates to xfree86 for sarge are planned.
A case can of course be made for this hardware support, but at this
point
I'd need to involve the release management team.
On balance (and not just because I have a lab full of machines with i915
chipsets to look after), I think that we really ought to try to get this
into sarge. It won't be long before there are a hell of a lot of those
chips out there. Even if we release Etch a year after Sarge, that's
still
a significant lag for a significant number of (potential) users -- and
hands up who thinks we actually *will* release then...

So, count me in favour, and let me know if you want any testing done
(on i810 or i915).
Cheers,

Bug#298605: dsniff: urlsnarf should output dates with leading zeroes (CLF format)

2005-03-08 Thread Joshua Krage
Package: dsniff
Version: 2.4b1-9
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

urlsnarf uses strftime with %e in the date output function, instead of %d,
which forces leading zeroes. Leading zeroes are more consistent with other
CLF-style log files. With the patch, urlsnarf output is easier to load into
a varietey of web log analysis packages.

Bug#298581: Apple's Shasta I/O Controller not known to kernel? [was Re: [Netboot] Ethernet Driver on 1.8GHz G5?]

I've looked up the PCI device code, and according to [1] and [2]

Apple [3].

I'm using the kernel/modules from Sven Luther [4]. Could this mean that

Bug#298606: quik does not support md devices

2005-03-08 Thread Simon Vallet
Package: quik
Version: 2.1-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

quik does not support linux metadevices (/dev/md). This is filed as a
normal bug as quik does not recognize an md device, and incorrectly
tries to find partitions on it.
The included patch fixes the problem by adding limited md support to
quik -- the included README.md lists the current limitations. It was
generated against the 2.1-4 version from sid.

Bug#298607: does not work with current libc

2005-03-08 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: zlibc
Version: 0.9j-7
Severity: important

In todays environment, zlibc is only half-functional. dir listings do
display .gz files without the suffix, but reading them does not work.

There is a new version 0.9k, but it makes ls and mc segfault
immediately.

Regards,
Eduard.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm a bit overloaded right now. I'm
puzzled. The german translation in my svn repository seems to be fully
translated (but it probablystill contains bad translations :)

Whoops. You're right, it looks complete. Weird. What was I looking at?
Anyway, better than being surprised the other way around. :-)

Bug#297649: better documentation of dynamic mmap ran out of room error

2005-03-08 Thread Brian Sammon
  Package: apt
  Version: 0.5.28.5

There's already a couple of bug reports requesting that this be fixed, but
  I
didn't find any requesting that this long-standing issue be documented.

That's because it's been fixed, in that the size of the map has been
increased to accomodate even very large package databases. If you are still
overflowing it, you must have a huge number of packages available, and I'd
be curious to see your sources.list.

This came up when I was helping a friend with his computer a week or two ago.
It wasn't practical to report the bug then, so I reported it later based on my
fuzzy recollection.
It's possible it wasn't 0.5.28.5 that I was having the problem with. 0.5.28.5
is the version on the computer I reported the bug. Has this problem been
fixed in stable?

Bug#298609: kernel 2.6.8-13 smbfs broken smb_add_request prevents use in mixed environment

2005-03-08 Thread Dr. Jrgen Pfennig
Package: kernel
Severity: important

As currently cifs is broken too, users with a mixed network including
win clients might need to fallback to smb. Here we get the following
problem (client hangs frequently until timeout):

kernel: smb_add_request: request [d5a8be80, mid=57] timed out!

(just as an example). The problem is very frequent when KDE is used
(the KDE browser intentionally tries to read files that do not exist
like .directory and follows symlinks).

Any recommendations? Any patches that I could try?

Bug#297810: [Pkg-zope-developers] (no subject)

For some strange reasons I missed this bug report because it hasn't been
forwarded to my mailbox, sorry.
When you have installed zope2.7 debian package, you have been warned
about this and you have been adviced to symlink products for zope2.7
instances, so this isn't a zope-cmfplone specific ug.
I put one other on zope-cmf.
I just put the bug on them because with this system the maintainer of
zope-cps package and I cannot use CMF packages for CPS the we build it
in a all products in one package method. It's dirty.

We are working to handle different zope versions (and different python
versions) with only one product installation. I don't know if this will
be included in sarge or not, but certainly we are taking care about this
issue. All in all, this applies on almost all products and not only
Plone.
It seems good.
I had done the work one year and a half ago but at that time nobody
cares of it.

Il giorno mar, 08-03-2005 alle 13:27 +0100, martin f krafft ha scritto:

I agree that this is a bug, but it's no more than an important bug
because it does not render the package unusable to everyone, just
those using Zope2.7. In fact, I am not even sure whether this isn't
just a plain wishlist bug.
Thanks :)
Anyway, my suggested fix would be to install Plone products to
/usr/share/plone/Products, and then to symlink them individually to
the two Zope hierarchies. However, this fails when the two Zope
instances use different Python versions (which they do), because of
pre-compiled modules. Thus, short of installing plone twice, I do
not see an easy way out. Maybe then it would be possible to filter
out common stuff into plone-common.
Symlink is not a good idea. We use symlink for up-to-date products from
version control (cvs, svn or arch). For packaging products we have to
use more robust mecanism to protect instance about broken products on
upgrade. We can use python to manage this with a .ini file.

Note that I copied the Debian Zope developers list. I hope they have
already worked out a policy for this. Otherwise we will need to get
thinking about one soon!
Yes, discuss of these question here (pkg-zope-developpers). I do not
want to report more bugs on this but if I cannot see any discussion on
it, I will think zope maintainers work is dead again.

config-2.6.8-1-686-smp in /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8/ without any
change.

After make-kpkg --append_to_version -2-686-smp --initrd kernel_image and
install I got a kernel with which VESA-framebuffer for console doesn't work with
boot potion vga=791 like the original kernel from Debian package.
I get a black screen on all consoles and there is no /dev/fb0 device.

I can't build any self-compiled kernel with VESA-framebuffer from this
source-package.

Is my way to build a original Debian Kernel on my machine wrong or is
there any problem with the kernel-source or config file?

Regards,
Erik

Bug#298611: bugs.debian.org: Please provide a buildd pseudopackage

2005-03-08 Thread Justin Pryzby

Someone recently brought up that there is no buildd pseudopackge.
Since bugs.d.o is one mechanism for communication and for tracking
problems, lack of such a pseudopackage hurts in those areas.

Bug#298613: TLS fails if the virtual host is setup to listen on 0.0.0.0

2005-03-08 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan
Package: proftpd
Version: 1.2.10-10
Severity: important

Hi!

I discovered today that the tls setup of my server had stopped to work, I
don't use it much, so I cannot tell on wich version this broke, but I know
why it doesn't work.

The thing is that I'm running this in a machine with dynamic IP and thus I
have setup the virtual host on which I want to run the TLS setup this way:

VirtualHost 0.0.0.0
Port 990
TLSEngine on
TLSRequired control
...

This used to work ok, however it doesn't right now, on the other hand, if I
change the 0.0.0.0 with the IP that the interface has at that moment, it
works ok.

I don't know if this was intentional, to avoid people using 0.0.0.0, but
some of us have the need to listen on 0.0.0.0 for TLS connections as we
don't know the IP that the interface may have at a given time.

This is a simple test one can do to find out this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ telnet 80.103.205.104 990
Trying 80.103.205.104...
Connected to 80.103.205.104.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 ProFTPD 1.2.10 Server (Debian) [80.103.205.104]
AUTH TLS
500 AUTH not understood
quit
221 Goodbye.
Connection closed by foreign host.

The correct answer to the AUTH TLS command should be 234 AUTH TLS successful
which I get if I set up the 80.103.205.104 (my current IP) instead of the
0.0.0.0 one that I have set up and that I'd like to keep.

If you need any more info about the setup or something, just tell me.

Regards!

ftpmaster is responsible for the list of pseudo-packages. In addition,
somebody in a position to do so must be willing to be the maintainer for
the pseudo-package.

The problem all started when I started an apt-get dist-upgrade.
Normally I just use apt-get upgrade, but some packages weren't being
upgraded due to dependencies, I guess.

You are aware that you have the experimental distribution in your
sources.list, and that this tetex version is from experimental?

I am aware.

I am astonished that after installing tetex-extra it still does not
work. Can you please send us the output of the following commands:

Obviously something was changed when I manually copied ebcdic.ocp into
/usr/share/texmf/omega/ocp/ and then installed tetex-bin. Now even when
I remove tetex-bin and tetex-extra and delete ebcdic.ocp
from /usr/share/texmf/omega/ocp/ there is no problem re-installing the
tetex-bin package.

 Thank you in advance,
 Frank
