Package color Error: No driver specified. See the color package documentation for explanation. This is a duplicate of texlive-base-bin's bug #425803. It's been solved for new installs or upgrades, but in order to fix your system now that it's broken, you need to manually reinstall some packages with dpkg --force-confmiss. Please get the deb files for texlive-base, texlive-base-bin, texlive-latex-base, texlive-latex-extra texlive-pictures (they might already be in /var/cache/apt/archives, but make sure you got the recent ones) and install each of them with dpkg -i --force-confmiss name_of_the.deb Don't care if the configuration of one or more of them fails, just proceed until the end, that should fix it, and finally all should be configured. To be sure, call dpkg --configure -a at the end. Regards, Frank -- Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Biochemie, Univ. Zürich Debian Developer (teTeX/TeXLive)

Bug#431657: automatic wlan connection at bootprocess on Etch only on second try
Hi Jurij, - original Nachricht Betreff: Bug#431657: automatic wlan connection at bootprocess on Etch only on second try Gesendet: Mo, 16. Jul 2007 Von: Jurij Smakov[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Michael, There is a line sleep 3 in the start_daemon() function of the /etc/init.d/ipw3945d script. Can you try setting the number there to something like 10, and see if it helps? It will make the script to pause for 10 seconds instead of 3 after starting the daemon, to give it some more time to initialize. before sending my bug report I read http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405270 and also tried to set sleep to a higher number. But this doesn't solve the problem. May I ask for any further suggestions concerning this problem? Regards, Michael

Bug#417760: GCC 4.2 transition
Hello Martin, this is Martin :) As for the transition bug concerning widelands, you can proceed and raise the bug to serious. The package already has a RC bug to prevent it from going into testing. This is a preliminar version, which is known to segfault when you attack the headquarter of the enemies, for example. As I said, I'm in the process of packaging the current svn release in the hope that things get fixed quicker here. But unfortunately, upstream decided that makefiles where not good enough for them (after deciding the same about the good old working autotools), so they moved to scons, and most of the traffic on upstream ML right now is about issues this transition introduced. So, in summary, despite the high potential of this project, the corresponding package deserve another RC bug, unfortunately. Correction: 417760 is about the 4.3 transition, so I may be out of the topic ;) Bye, Mt. On Thu, Jun 28, 2007 at 02:47:55PM +0200, Martin Michlmayr wrote: GCC 4.2 was released on May 13 and has been in unstable since roughly that time. The default version of gfortran was recently switched to 4.2 and the Debian GCC maintainers would like to move to 4.2 as the default compiler in unstable for all architectures and for all languages with the exception of Java (which will follow later). This message describes the plan to make this transition possible. Throughout the development of GCC 4.2, we regularly recompiled the entire Debian archive with development snapshots of GCC to make sure that we'd end up with a reliable compiler. We have done regular rebuilds on IA64 and AMD64, and we have tested almost every architecture at some point during the development phase of 4.2 (the exception being hppa and m68k, as well as non-Linux platforms). We now have a compiler with relatively few known issues. We also filed bugs on packages that don't compile with GCC 4.2 and kept track of them at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=ftbfs-gcc-4.2;[EMAIL PROTECTED] These bugs need to be resolved before GCC 4.2 can be adopted as the default compiler in unstable. At the moment, we have 66 bugs that need to be resolved: - 40 bugs that need further investigation and patches. - 16 packages with bugs that have patches and need to be NMUed. - 6 forwarded bugs: the maintainer should be pinged to see whether this has already been resolved upstream or needs to be fixed in another way. - 4 pending bugs: we need to check why these packages haven't been uploaded yet. This message is a call for help for this GCC 4.2 transition. We need: - Debian developers who can NMU the affected packages. We can do 0-day NMUs for GCC 4.2 related bugs. - C and C++ programmers who can investigate build failures and produce patches. If you're interested in helping with this transition, please send me a message. The current plan is to resolve the majority of these bugs within the next 10 days so we can move to GCC 4.2 by the end of next week. Finally, here is a brief look ahead to GCC 4.3 (which may find its way into lenny, depending on the upstream release date). The development of GCC is divided into 3 stages (see http://gcc.gnu.org/develop.html) and stage 1 is just about to come to an end. Moving to GCC 4.3 will involve with major work because C++ header dependencies got cleaned up (see http://www.cyrius.com/journal/gcc/gcc-4.3-include). As a result, C++ applications which don't include headers they need and rely on them to be included indirectly will no longer build. From what I've seen so far, the majority of C++ packages in Debian is buggy in this way. I submitted an initial batch of bugs in April but since then some more headers got cleaned up. The good news is that these bugs are trivial to fix. For those interested in trying out a snapshot of GCC 4.3, we're updating the gcc-snapshot package in unstable every 3-4 weeks. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- Il ne faut pas confondre « La société m'opprime » et « le système m'étrique ». --- éphéméride du 19 juin signature.asc Description: Digital signature

The X-based apps which lose their X server do the only thing they can do: die. Agreed. I was exhausted when I filed the report and was trying to get the facts down. When I'm a bit more rested I can learn or think through the software architecture. On the other hand, if nobody reports a problem, nobody else has an opportunity to fix it. At work I like it when people report real problems (as opposed to laziness) because I can then understand and fix them. What's your Xorg driver? Please attach your Xorg.log after a crash (it's probably renamed if gdm starts a new display after a crash). Somewhat ignorant here. X11 was a lot more monolithic when I last dove in about 10 years ago. I would take an educated guess at the via driver. Here I've copied ut some basic IDs and then later in the log most everything is prefixed via (and dpkg says xserver-xorg-video-via is installed and configured). Hi Meik, you could also try to unregister the fonts manually, as suggested by Steve previously: defoma-font unregister type1 /usr/share/fonts/type1/linux-libertine/LinLibertineU-Re-2.2.5RO.pfb Ionut On Sun, 2007-07-15 at 18:18 +0200, Meik Hellmund wrote: I just stumbled over this bug with a new installation of Sid: grace6 generates symlinks to non-existent fonts and then fails to start. So, ok, this is perhaps a defoma problem or a problem of some fonts package. (Any hints welcome!) But no other application I know responds in this way to a missing font (especially, a font it will presumably never use). These symlinks to fonts in /usr/share/grace6/fonts/type1/ - is this really a good idea? Bug#433305: libsasl2-modules-otp: Performing SASL negotiation: invalid parameter supplied
Package: libsasl2-modules-otp Version: 2.1.22.dfsg1-13 Severity: normal Hi, I was just playing a little bit with the sasl-sample-server and sasl-sample-client programs that come with the debian packages for sasl2. Running both programs in separate xterm windows and 'sending' their messages vice versa with mouse cut and paste works as expected, e.g. for DIGEST-MD5. The sasl-sample-client then asks for a password. But when I choose OTP (which is offered by the server), then the client aborts, and I currently don't see why: % sasl-sample-client -m OTP Waiting for mechanism list from server... Bug#105666: Why 105666 will not go away soon.
package gv tags 105666 + wontfix thanks Some background information about this bug: It's a consequence of too much abstraction and some limitations in X. Scrolling lists are implemented by just having a list inside a scrolling window. That means that there is a (virtual) window containing the whole list[1]. This becomes a problem as windows in X have dimensions limited by 15 bits (signed short int)[2]. Though together that means only the beginning of lists is visible. As this is quite a low-level problem, thus I am tagging this bug wontfix, not because I think it should behave this way or is not worth fixing, but because I deem it very unlikely that anyone will find the time to write a list widget that incorporates the scrolling anytime soon. My personal opinion is that dpkg -S should follow symlinks but not display it like a direct match. It should do something similar to diversions. For diversions we have: $ LANG=C dpkg -S /usr/bin/objdump diversion by binutils-multiarch from: /usr/bin/objdump diversion by binutils-multiarch to: /usr/bin/objdump.single binutils-multiarch, binutils: /usr/bin/objdump For symlinks we could have: $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/man non-packaged symlink to /usr/lib/man-db/man: /usr/bin/man man-db: /usr/lib/man-db/man It should do symlink resolution one by one. Which means that for alternatives we should have: $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/editor non-packaged symlink to /etc/alternatives/editor: /usr/bin/editor non-packaged symlink to /usr/bin/vim: /etc/alternatives/editor non-packaged symlink to /etc/alternatives/vim: /usr/bin/vim non-packaged symlink to /usr/bin/vim.full: /etc/alternatives/vim vim-full: /usr/bin/vim.full Cheers, -- Raphaël Hertzog Premier livre français sur Debian GNU/Linux : http://www.ouaza.com/livre/admin-debian/
