Bug#654349: update of heimdal-kcm fails because init script does not stop kcm properly
Package: heimdal-kcm Version: 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-2+squeeze1 Severity: important The update to a new version of the package fails. The error is in --configure. The init-script can't restart the kcm daemon. When calling the init-script (or service) to stop the daemon, the daemon is still running afterwards. Killing kcm with kill -15 does not have an effect either. Temporary solution for me: killing kcm with kill -9 and run dpkg --configure -a This configures the package and starts the daemon again. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_CH.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_CH.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages heimdal-kcm depends on: ii liba 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-2+squeeze1 Heimdal Kerberos - ASN.1 library ii libc 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libh 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-2+squeeze1 Heimdal Kerberos - kadmin server l ii libh 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-2+squeeze1 Heimdal Kerberos - NTLM support li ii libk 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-2+squeeze1 Heimdal Kerberos - libraries ii libr 1.4.0~git20100726.dfsg.1-2+squeeze1 Heimdal Kerberos - roken support l ii libs 0.9.8o-4squeeze4SSL shared libraries heimdal-kcm recommends no packages. heimdal-kcm suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. When you upgraded from 1.6.x, you must have got a dpkg conffile upgrade prompt, and you probably refused to merge your configuration changes to the new configuration proposal. This left you with a configuration referencing /var/run/tinyproxy.pid and /var/log/tinyproxy.log for PidFile and LogFile. This, mixed to tinyproxy now dropping privileges much earlier in the startup sequence (a good thing), caused your problem. Please note that there's also ggz-base-libs of version 0.99.x in experimental which may need removal. Thanks for your reply. I've requested removal for those packages that do not have any reverse dependencies in Debian at the moment so the largest part of GGZ will be gone soon. For the remaining packages (ggz-client-libs, ggz-server, libggz), I plan to file bugs for the games still (build-)depending on them and request removal later. For now I've just cloned this bug to them as a reminder. I've imported all binNMUs, patches and pending bug reports into the pkg-ggz SVN just in case work will continue. All packages will stay available on snapshot.debian.org as well should somebody want to work at them again at a later time. Same for the bug reports (though they will be closed and later archived, but you can still look them up). Bug#516394: [CVE-2008-4392]
Dear Sergiusz, it seems my reply to your private email didn't convince you, so replying again on behalf of the Security Team. Dear Security Team, CVE-2008-4392 has Candidate status and is being reviewed for almost three years now, and still must accepted by the CVE Editorial Board[0]. This is unimportant, there are a lot of of CVEs under review, this doesn't mean they are invalid Why, after so many years, Debian Security Team, after a clear statement from prof. Bernstain[1], without confirmation of this rumour from CVE Editorial Board, still blocks djbdns software from the society? Thijs already wrote we are waiting a patch. All resolver in the Debian archive are properly hardened against cache poisoning, I really don't understand why djbdns should be an exception. Attackers with an access to the network are able to forge DNS responses, and if we treat is as a bug, we must remove all DNS cache software from Debian ASAP. If you are privy to a way to poison other resolver in the Debian archive, please open a bug and we will be happy to discuss the impact. Cheers, Giuseppe. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

This way we have the code duplication only in the binary code, but no longer have to binNMU avidemux in case changes happen in Libav. Fabian, what do you think about this solution? Phew, sounds doable but not desirable and is IMHO too dirty for a Debian package. Well, it was built for libav-extra, but hey, why not. If we really decide to give this package a try, we should figure out which patches are really necessary to actually build and use avidemux, get in contact with the author of these patches and together try to convince upstream (whether ffmpeg or libav, I don't care) to either include them or find a cleaner solution for the problem they are supposed to solve. That would be nice. However, I don't have the time and energy to encourage avidemux upstream to collaborate properly with libav (or ffmpeg). Any other opinions on the libav-source approach? Bug#654380: nsis: The zmemcpy patch breaks NSISdl::download (at least).
Package: nsis Version: 2.46-6 Severity: serious Justification: Breaks win32-loader Hi Thomas, it seems that the zmemcpy patch currently breaks the win32-loader build by making NSISdl::download fail. To reproduce that: try win32-loader 0.7.4.2 as built with nsis 2.46-5 [0] and try (works with wine). Now try to rebuild it from source with nsis 2.46-6 installed; it will fail at the first NSISdl::download call time. Now, as I need to get win32-loader uploaded before Wheezy's freeze, I consider this bug serious enough to warrant the `serious` severity. Cheers, OdyX N.B. I would be happy to upload nsis with this patch removed if we don't manage to find a better solution. Thanks in advance! :-) Best Regards, Nikolas Braun

BTW -- what is the take of standards/practices on having /tmp mounted with noexec [1]? Good point! /run/shm (IIRC formerly /dev/shm) likely would be an alternative option, too. No, it would not. This directory is reserved for the eglibc POSIX SHM/SEM interfaces. Please don't abuse it--we only just moved all the existing abusers to /run! Nothing other than eglibc has any business creating files there, ever. If you really need to use a filesystem mounted noexec, just run the binary via /lib/ld.so (you'll need to get the real location from e.g. ldd). Bug#654381: icon: FTBFS on hurd-i386
Source: icon Version: 9.4.3-3 Severity: important Tags: patch User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org Usertags: hurd Hi, icon currently FTBFS on GNU/Hurd, see https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=iconarch=hurd-i386ver=9.4.3-3stamp=1306225911 The problems are a flaky fakeroot-tcp used by GNU/Hurd for the Test-icont tests and a PATH setting issue in the Test-opts script. The solution is to run the tests under the build target, not under the binary target which is using fakeroot. The tests don't need to be performed using fakeroot. Thus I believe that those virtual fields would be useful. Yes, seems like a good idea, and I've implemented it now locally, will be on my next push. Thanks. or even a special virtual field with the correct value for Built-Using could be implemented? I don't think that this brings us anything significant. The former virtual fields ought to be enough. Well, given that Built-Using can have several packages in it I don't see how dpkg-query would be able to know the correct value for it in any case. I was thinking about a virtual field that implements the format in the first paragraph; one still would have to list the packages. However after thinking a bit longer about it, I'm not convinced by this idea myself: it seems too specialized to be in dpkg-query. Bug#385288: libapache2-svn sometimes create db logs owned by root

With the bdb backend, _no_ operation is truly read-only - even 'svnlook youngest' writes to log files, and can create new log files. This is an implementation choice in the Berkeley DB library, so it cannot be fixed in Subversion. Thanks for reporting this --- the bug report serves as useful documentation for anyone considering whether the bdb backend is appropriate for their particular setup. I'd like to go a step further: do you remember what documentation you looked at when coming up with your setup and later when investigating its misbehavior? Any ideas for hints that could save future readers from the same trouble? It was long time ago ;-) We switched to fsfs repository type. As I remember it was a standart apache configuration to serve many repositories from parent directory with user authorization. -- Best regards, Vitalie WWW: http://vitalie.webng.md -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. retitle 654380 nsis: build with recent mingw breaks NSISdl plugin tags 654380 + upstream thanks Le mardi, 3 janvier 2012 11.00:10, Didier Raboud a écrit : Package: nsis Version: 2.46-6 Severity: serious Justification: Breaks win32-loader Hi Thomas, it seems that the zmemcpy patch currently breaks the win32-loader build by making NSISdl::download fail. To reproduce that: try win32-loader 0.7.4.2 as built with nsis 2.46-5 [0] and try (works with wine). Now try to rebuild it from source with nsis 2.46-6 installed; it will fail at the first NSISdl::download call time. Hmm. After more investigation, it seems that said patch is not the culprit. My issue is that NSISdl::download doesn't work anymore; when run in wine, the console shows: err:module:import_dll Library libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll (which is needed by LC:\\windows\\temp\\nsg1012.tmp\\NSISdl.dll) not found err:module:import_dll Library libstdc++-6.dll (which is needed by LC:\\windows\\temp\\nsg1012.tmp\\NSISdl.dll) not found This seems to correspond to RedHat's [RH#734905] and to NSIS's [NSIS#3406350]. I'm currently trying a build with the attached patch and will report back if it works or not. Bug#654387: perl debugger dies for PDL scripts with Can't return a temporary from lvalue subroutine
Package: perl Version: 5.10.1-17squeeze2 Severity: normal Tags: upstream patch Perl Data Language (PDL, debian package pdl) exploits what is normally a non-harmful, non-useful case in Perl 5; a roadblock added in Perl 5.10.1 kills that case, gutting PDL functionality under the perl debugger, which makes it virtually impossible to debug PDL scripts. Under perl-5.10.1, the perl debugger aborts for common PDL constructions with the error message: Can't return a temporary from lvalue subroutine This issue has been discussed on the perlbug list as item 71172: https://rt.perl.org/rt3/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=71172 ... and on the Pdl-porters list as the thread New lvalue subroutine roadblock in 5.10.1 breaks important functionality: http://mailman.jach.hawaii.edu/pipermail/pdl-porters/2010-February/001789.html A patch which successfully fixes the problem was submitted by Doug Hunt; I have attached it here; the original is available at: https://rt.perl.org/rt3/Ticket/Attachment/656478/313038/lvalue_71172.patch I would be very grateful if this patch could be added to debian's perl package. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'stable-updates') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-bpo.2-686-bigmem (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages perl depends on: ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-6 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdb4.7 4.7.25-9 Berkeley v4.7 Database Libraries [ ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-9 GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii perl-base 5.10.1-17squeeze2 minimal Perl system ii perl-modules 5.10.1-17squeeze2 Core Perl modules ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages perl recommends: ii netbase 4.45 Basic TCP/IP networking system Versions of packages perl suggests: ii libterm-readline-gnu-p 1.20-1Perl extension for the GNU ReadLin ii make 3.81-8An utility for Directing compilati ii perl-doc 5.10.1-17squeeze2 Perl documentation diff -r -u -N perl-5.10.1.orig/lib/perl5db/t/lvalue-bug1 perl-5.10.1/lib/perl5db/t/lvalue-bug1 --- perl-5.10.1.orig/lib/perl5db/t/lvalue-bug1 1969-12-31 17:00:00.0 -0700 +++ perl-5.10.1/lib/perl5db/t/lvalue-bug1 2010-02-08 10:46:11.0 -0700 @@ -0,0 +1,12 @@ +#!/usr/bin/perl +# +# This code is used by lib/perl5db.t !!! +# + +# Perl bug 71172. Bug#654388: automysqlbackup: Script fails with error when DBNAMES=all
Package: automysqlbackup Version: 2.5-6 Severity: important Tags: patch I found that the automysqlbackup script (Debian version) fails to run as expected when setting specific options in the /etc/default/automysqlbackup configuration file. Setting 'DBEXCLUDE' with a list of DB names that wish to be excluded. The documentation states that for this to work you MUST set DBNAMES=all This combination will produce an access rights error. This is due to MySQL being called without the debian.cnf defaults-file. In the /usr/sbin/automysqlbackup there are already Debian customisations checking for a configured USERNAME and PASSWORD. If these are not set then a Debian specific override is used with a reference to the debian.cnf MySQL config file. In the case that DBNAMES=all is set, there was no check and the variables USERNAME and PASSWORD are expected to exist and be correct. The attached patch uses the same type of check to override the call to mysql calling it with the 'defaults-file' option. A further check through the script did not reveal, to me, any further issues of this nature. Bug#654225: zsh: Multibyte fails when $LANG.utf variable is not set
Frank Terbeck f...@bewatermyfriend.org wrote: If you still think this is a bug and not an error in your setup, then please provide a concise way to reproduce the issue, because so far I've invested about an hour into seeing that everything works as expected. ;) If I am missing something, tell me what it is exactly. What you are missing is that you never once tried the combination setting I described as causing problem. Please try to set a non-utf8 _country_ locale for the LANG variable together with a utf8 locale for the LC_ALL variable. E.g. at your zsh prompt: export LANG=de_DE export LC_ALL=de_DE.utf8 type in e.g. an umlaut character, type backspace to delete it and notice that it is deleted piecemeal by octet. It should happen to you too! Despite the sillyness of this locale combination, zsh should not deactivate multibyte support. I can do exactly the same in bash and there is no problem. I do not see how this could be anything in my setup. I tried to load zsh with the -f parameter and it makes no change. There were no locale related settings in my ~/.environment. This combination export LANG= export LC_ALL=da_DK.utf8 is okay. So it is the specific combination of a non-utf8 country locale for LANG and a utf8 country locale for LC_ALL that is at fault. Le lundi 02 janvier 2012 à 21:28 -0800, Steve Langasek a écrit : Well, the use case for this is libcanberra-gtk3-module, which depends on gconf2 but not on libgconf2-4. Maybe this is a spurious dependency on gconf2, I didn't question it too closely. Ah, I see. It does that to change the gnome-settings-daemon configuration. However g-s-d uses GSettings now, not GConf, so this file doesn’t achieve anything anymore. There’s a configuration for g-s-d 3.0 too, so you can just drop the schemas file and add a Breaks: g-s-d 3.0. This should be enough to drop your dependency before we update gconf2. The solution will probably be to statically link the library into the daemon. If you have any other ideas, please share. Yeah, I don't have any better ideas; that's basically why I haven't proposed a patch to make the library coinstallable, because I didn't see a good way to do it. Bug#654396: tayga: packet misrouted into the Internet
Package: tayga Version: 0.9.2-3 Severity: important Tags: ipv6 I tried to access an IPv4-only host (ap.miklcct.csproject.org) in my intranet. As DNS64 is set up, it returns a mapped IPv6 address as usual. My mapped IP blocks are 192.168.0.0/24 and 2001:470:19:a87::/96. My tayga address is 192.168.0.1. Moreover, masquerading is set on my Internet interface eth2. I can access the host by typing its IPv4 literal, but not via its host name or IPv6 literal. Here are my traceroute results: michael@server:~$ traceroute -4 ap.miklcct.csproject.org traceroute to ap.miklcct.csproject.org (192.168.1.1), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 ap.miklcct.csproject.org (192.168.1.1) 0.386 ms 0.472 ms 0.597 ms michael@server:~$ traceroute -6 ap.miklcct.csproject.org traceroute to ap.miklcct.csproject.org (2001:470:19:a87::c0a8:101), 30 hops max, 80 byte packets 1 2001:470:19:a87::c0a8:1 (2001:470:19:a87::c0a8:1) 0.107 ms 0.017 ms 0.015 ms 2 119247183154.ctinets.com (2001:470:19:a87::77f7:b79a) 0.091 ms 0.311 ms 0.400 ms 3 * * * 4 * * * 5 * * * 6 * * * 7 * * * 8 *^C As you can see, the packet leaked to the Internet on hop 2. I believe that this issue is not related to the source address, so feel free to use ap.miklcct.csproject.org for testing from an IPv6 capable host. Note that my network is firewalled so that you can only ping or traceroute into it. To reproduce this on your own network, do the following: 1. Install tayga on your NAT44 gateway 2. Pick an unused /96 in your site for tayga (do not use the Well-Known Prefix) 3. traceroute6 to a mapped private IPv4 address, but not the server's own address. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.1.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_HK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_HK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages tayga depends on: ii libc6 2.13-23 tayga recommends no packages. tayga suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/default/tayga changed: RUN=yes CONFIGURE_IFACE=yes CONFIGURE_NAT44=no DAEMON_OPTS= /etc/tayga.conf changed: tun-device nat64 ipv4-addr 192.168.0.1 prefix 2001:470:19:a87::/96 dynamic-pool 192.168.0.0/24 data-dir /var/spool/tayga -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Great work! I didn't have a look at debian/copyright so far. I plan to do that tomorrow. I've also started to work on gecko-mediaplayer 1.0.5: * Imported Brandon's work. * Enabled hardened build flags. * Dropped the dependencies on specific browsers. I'd appreciate comments on the state of gmtk so that we can get it uploaded soon. And there is one issue that is bugging me: libgmlib and libgmtk both export symbols that should be private [1]. Bug#552522: aptitude's bug #552522: aptitude-gtk would need to depend on gnome-games
found 552522 0.6.4-1.2 stop Hello, (Sending to aptitude-devel@ because I'd like to have the opinion from people in there). In my opinion, this is quite a misfeature. Why should aptitude contain games is beyond me, but launching games as external programs is: 1) wrong per se; 2) bug-inducing, and causing people to spend time looking at this, like the reporter and me; 3) introducing the dependency on gnome-games from aptitude-gtk would be the only way to solve this bug, and we will get for sure more bug reports/complaints about aptitude-gtk pulling out big dependencies for no good reason at all (gnomine and gnome-games-data, and possibly libraries otherwise not necessary in the system). 4) Possibly a security issue, since often aptitude/aptitude-gtk would be run with root priviledges, so any compromise to the target game would also be causing problems to this package. 5) If the program provides ways to launch an unrelated application altogether, what would be the reason against launching anything else? One could argue that opening a browser with URLs to aptitude or Debian-related sites would be more appropriate, even if completely pointless too. http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=aptitude/aptitude.git;a=commitdiff;h=aa5a9eddbee0ef6a6132668a1717a4850c2f7be8;hp=631dd7b6eea14b9122f41a4c74effeaad5bb9f14 IMO the only sensible solution is to remove this misfeature from aptitude-gtk. Moreover, masquerading is set on my Internet interface eth2. I can access the host by typing its IPv4 literal, but not via its host name or IPv6 literal. michael@server:~$ ip -6 route show 2001:470:18:a87::1 dev he-ipv6 metric 1024 2001:470:18:a87::/64 via :: dev he-ipv6 proto kernel metric 256 2001:470:19:a87::/96 dev nat64 metric 1024 eth0 and eth1 are my intranet interfaces, eth2 is my Internet interface, he- ipv6 is my IPv6 tunnel, tun0 is my OpenVPN tunnel, nat64 is my NAT64 tunnel. Moreover, tracerouting to other mapped private IPv4 addresses (such as 2001:470:19:a87::172.16.0.1) gets similar results. Hmm. Well, in my setup, I use a different address range than that one in which the server itself is. That is, if I have /48 network, where the primary server's IP is, say, prefix::1, my NAT64 network may be prefix:6464::/96, not just prefix::/96. Bug#654393: an alternative
Hi, As an alternative, you could create a specific package, like php5-mysqlnd, and keep the current package linking to libmysqlclient. php5-mysqlnd would _not_ have the driver mysql (as opposed to mysqli). Then we wouldn't break existing installations but still users could install and use easily the new implementation. When PHP 5.4 will be released, php5-mysqlnd could be transformed into a dummy package depending on php5-mysql. -- Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
