Bug#806295: supervisor: missing dependency on python-pkg-resources

2015-11-25 Thread Stephane Alnet
Package: supervisor
Version: 3.1.3-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Installing supervisor on a `minbase` Debian image, running `supervisord`
at the command prompt leads to:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/supervisord", line 5, in
from pkg_resources import load_entry_point
ImportError: No module named pkg_resources

instead of

Error: No config file found at default paths (/usr/etc/supervisord.conf,
/usr/supervisord.conf, supervisord.conf, etc/supervisord.conf,
/etc/supervisord.conf, /etc/supervisor/supervisor.conf); use the -c option to
specify a config file at a different path
For help, use /usr/bin/supervisord -h

Installing python-pkg-resources corrected this.

This is on Debian/testing (amd64).

Hello,

When I tried to build libsignon-glib with the 1.12-1 it seems to build on

Would you happen to know what it should be replaced with?

Bug#806293: aide.conf definition for X gone missing, but still referenced

2015-11-25 Thread Marc Haber
Package: aide-common
Version: 0.16~a2.git20130520-3
Severity: important

Hi,

I have noticed during an upgrade from wheezy to jessie that the
aide.conf shipped with jessie's aide has lost the definition for "X":

|# X contains the groups 'acl', 'xattrs' and 'e2fsattrs' and additionally
|# under linux archs the group 'selinux'. The group is used in some other
|# group definitions below. To disable one of the groups (e.g. acl) append
|# '-acl' to the group definition.
|X=L-p-ftype-i-l-n-u-g

However, X is still referenced in the definitions for InodeData,
VarFile, VarDir, VarDirInode and Log.

I can't imagine that this is actually intended to be this way. Please
check and comment.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#806292: nss FTCBFS: mixes build arch and host arch objects while linking in external_tests

2015-11-25 Thread Helmut Grohne
Source: nss
Version: 3.21-1
User: helm...@debian.org
Usertags: rebootstrap

Hi Mike,

After your 3.21-1 upload the rebootstrap qa tool ran into trouble
cross building nss (which worked just fine earlier). You can find an
example failure at:
https://jenkins.debian.net/job/rebootstrap_ppc64_gcc5/79/console

With your help, we already understand some aspects of the issue:

 * external_tests was added in 3.21.
 * According to the README it is supposed to be disabled.
 * It mixes build arch and host arch cross toolchains.
 * Likely this is due to CCC not being passed into the build.
 * It should be possible to disable those tests by setting
   NSS_DISABLE_GTESTS
 * The external_tests appear to not be installed into the package and
   neither be run

I am testing cross builds with setting NSS_DISABLE_GTESTS=1 and with
setting CCC=$(CXX) now.

Thank you very much for your support

Helmut

Bug#806291: systemd: systemctl status ignores -n argument

2015-11-25 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: systemd
Version: 228-2

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I created a buggy configuration of apt-cacher-ng and wondered why it did not
start. When I run the service from command line, it dumps a couple of usefull
hints to STDERR. I expected to see this in "systemctl status" output. I saw
only ten lines and this contained only useless cruft, something about "hold-off
time over" etc.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Since I expected useful information to be before this cruft, I used the
-n option as described in the systemctl manpage. -n 20, actually.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

The same output was displayed. Only 10 lines with useless information. Feels
like -n ... value is simply ignored, I can set -n100 or -n1000, makes no
difference.

I have finished updating the Debian package for ‘python-lockfile’
version “0.11.0”. Before I finalise the release, is now a good time to
discuss adding DPMT as a maintainer?

Can I continue to maintain the packaging-only repository in a Bazaar
repository as has historically been the case, or do we need to go
through some kind of source-full migration?

Bug#806286: ITP: libgoogle-truth-java -- Assertion/Proposition framework for Java unit tests

  Version : 0.27
Upstream Author : Christian Gruber, Kurt Kluever, David Saff, David B
* URL : http://google.github.io/truth
* License : Apache 2.0
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Assertion/Proposition framework for Java unit tests

Truth is a testing framework designed to make your tests and their error
messages more readable and discoverable, while being extensible to new
 types of objects.
 .
Truth adopts a fluent style for test propositions, is extensible in
several ways, supports IDE completion/discovery of available
propositions, and supports different responses to un-true propositions.
Truth can be used to declare JUnit-style assumptions (which skip the
test on failure), assertions (interrupt the test on failure), and
expectations (continue the test, but collect errors and report failure
 at the end).

This package is a pre-requisite for packaging the latest version of
the closure-compiler.

2015-11-25 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: pxe-kexec

pxe-kexec is a TFTP client.
It's good for TFTP clients to:
 1. default to 512b block size, for compatibility.
 2. support greater block sizes, for speed.

AFAICT pxe-kexec does (1) but not (2).

In the example below, you can see that increasing the block size lets
curl download from dnsmasq two-and-half times faster!

Bug#806283: icedtea-netx: Inconsistent handling of deployment properties which contain '='

2015-11-25 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: icedtea-netx
Version: 1.4-3~deb7u2
Severity: normal

When itweb-settings writes out a property to the deployment.properties
file, and the equals character occurs in the property value string,
itweb-settings escapes the character by prefixing it with a backslash.
This may be right if Java code later reads this file (not being a Java
programmer, I can't say for sure). But this file is (also?) read by the
C++ code of the plugin itself, before Java is launched, in the source
file plugin/icedteanp/IcedTeaNPPlugin.cc.  I'm enough of a C++
programmer to see that this code does no inverse unescaping
transformation; it gets the raw line using a straight iostream read and
uses it as is, except for trimming whitespace from the edges.

As a consequence, trying to set the deployment.plugin.jvm.arguments
property to -Dfoo.bar.BazSetting=on via itweb-settings fails to achieve
the desired result, while adding the property manually without the
escaping works.

Curious where /etc/docker/ originated, I tracked that down and found it
was first created during the upgrade of docker.io from 1.3.3~dfsg1-2 to
1.6.1+dfsg1-2. That upgrade added a /etc/docker/key.json but I have no
clue how/why that happened.

Hope this helps,

It is interesting to know that Debian installer is using network manager
for connections rather than traditional way. Perhaps it does this when
network manager is available (as a result of freedombox-setup).

There is a connection setting for network manager connections called
'autoconnect-priority'. Perhaps setting this value to a higher value
than the automatic connections such as 'Wired Connection 1' created by
network manager (or debian-installer) is a good solution. Then again,
any connection created by user (or script) should take priority over
automatically created default connections.

I suspect another thing: VirtualBox does something weird, it uses one
kind of network adapter during first boot and another kind after the
first boot. Thus the interface name changes after first boot. During
first boot, it will be 'eth0' and we will have created a connection for
it, then after the reboot, it changes to 'enp0s8' or so which will not
be associated with the connection we created. Repeating the process in
Qemu/KVM might confirm the suspicion.

On the overall, we should:

- Increase auto-connection priority to our connections

- Change default firewall zone to 'external' so that no matter who
created the connection, Plinth will be accessible.

I don't see architecture specific bits in our preseed file. Will the
armhf installer have different questions? (I suppose not).

Also, I don't know why we have to mess with resolv.conf in our preseed.
Perhaps it is a fix we no longer require.

Sounds like the Debian installer method is easier than installing Debian
and running freedombox-setup. It is also possibly less prone to errors.
We should document this thoroughly on the Wiki and encourage new
installing users to take up this procedure.

I've committed this patch.

I tested it with Stretch Alpha 4 installer in Virtualbox. After install,
I found that /etc/network/interfaces was empty except for the loopback
device. But there's a different issue: the installer created a network
manager connection "Wired Connection 1".

I tried testing with 2 network configurations:
- Bridged Adapter: Wired Connection 1 is active, FreedomBox WAN is not
active. Plinth cannot be accessed from host machine.
- Bridged Adapter + Host-only Adapter: FreedomBox WAN is active on
enp0s3, Wired Connection 1 is active on enp0s8, FreedomBox LAN enp0s8 is
not active. Plinth can be access on bridged adapter IP only.

So it looks like we will need to check for this connection and delete it.

Some more ideas for further improvements:
- There are still several prompts in the install process, maybe these
can be automated.
- This preseed file appears to be only meant for x86 or amd64. Since
Debian has installers for several armhf boards now, we can look into
making a preseed file that works on armhf.

Bug#806277: os-prober: should try to get linux kernel parameters from other Linuxes

2015-11-25 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: os-prober
Severity: wishlist

Hey.

I think the following would be a nice feature for os-prober when
it detects other Linuxes:

Also extract their kernel parameters, so that it can be added to
the e.g. grub menu entries.

This sounds easier than may be:

There is no canonical place where the kernel parameters are stored.
This varies from distribution to distribution, and worse from
boot loader to boot loader.

For example in Debian with grub, it's /etc/default/grub's
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT and GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX.
But if several boot loaders are installed in such Debian
who knows which one is actually the right one?
Possible solutions may be to check whether multiple known
boot loaders are installed and simply don't extract the
parameters then and print a warning.
Or compare them all and use them only when all match.

For other distros it may be worse... e.g. I think to remember
that RHEL had no real place for the parameter except grub.cfg
itself, and when that contains multiple entries... which should
one take?
Perhaps the soltuion would be to create a grub entry for each
of the grub.cfg entries of the probed partition.
These are typically different kernel versions, any one likely
would want all of them anyway.

Actually, parsing that parameters may even be necessary to
make the other Linux boot correctly.

Cheers,
Chris.

Bug#806275: pam-auth-update: ignore comments in /usr/share/pam-configs/foo

2015-11-25 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: libpam-runtime
Version: 1.1.8-3.1
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/sbin/pam-auth-update

I make Debian-based live images.
Because editing /etc/pam directly is pain and scary,
I edit /usr/share/pam-configs/libpam-mount and then run pam-auth-update.

You might want to say "that's abuse, you're doing it wrong, WONTFIX";
which I guess is reasonable. :-)

Anyway, I have a file like this:

# Emacs, this is a -*-conf-*- file.
Name: Mount volumes for user
Default: yes
# By default, this is 128 -- the same as ldap.
# This results in PAM getting an order of "unix, mount, ldap".
# I think it's better to have "unix, ldap, mount". (#30143)
# Therefore, decrease the priority to 64.
# FIXME: seek expert advice: is this good, or bad?
Priority: 64
Auth-Type: Additional
# Because libpam_mount is so badly coded,
# it thinks NFS mounts require a password.
# This doesn't matter for the actual xdm GUI login,
# but it is annoying when doing "su p123" when testing.
# Disable all password prompting by arguments to pam_mount.so.
Auth:
optionalpam_mount.so disable_pam_password
disable_interactive disable_propagate_password
Session-Interactive-Only: yes
Session-Type: Additional
Session:
optionalpam_mount.so disable_pam_password
disable_interactive disable_propagate_password

When pam-auth-update runs, the comments confuse it:

(bootstrap)root@zygon:/# DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive pam-auth-update
Use of uninitialized value $fieldname in hash element at
/usr/sbin/pam-auth-update line 689, line 1.
Use of uninitialized value $fieldname in hash element at
/usr/sbin/pam-auth-update line 690, line 1.

I think this can be trivially fixed in parse_pam_profile() by doing
something like this:

while () {
+ if (/^\s*#/) {
+ continue; # ignore comment lines
+ }
  if (/^(\S+):\s+(.*)$/) {

PS: perlcritic also recommends File::Slurp,
but I guess you want to avoid gratuitous dependencies. :-)

Bug#804382: Please allow non-root usage

2015-11-25 Thread martin f krafft
I know about sudo, but I still wonder about the need for root rights
at all.

Access to the database credentials can be managed through filesystem
permissions.

So the next (and hopefully last) thing where we need root rights
seems to be the creation of domain directories, or even user
directories:

Nov 26 02:55:21 ambassador dovecot: lmtp(20221): Error: user
  t...@pantsfullofunix.net: Initialization failed: Namespace '':
  mkdir(/srv/vmm/6/7/7/Maildir) failed: Permission denied
  (euid=7(test%pantsfullofunix.net)
  egid=7(pantsfullofunix.net) missing +w perm: /srv/vmm/6/7,
  dir owned by 0:7 mode=0750)

I can't seem to find a way to tell lmtp to drop privileges only
after it verified existence of the target directories, and we don't
want to go the pam_session route.

If we can agree that it's best to run as little code as possible as
root, then maybe it would be best to factor out just the domain/user
directory creation to a script and letting vmm invoke that script,
either as setuid or with sudo, while the rest of vmm runs with user
privileges.

Bug#806273: os-prober: remove or disable-per default the non grub-mount based probing

2015-11-25 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: os-prober
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Hey.

AFAIU, os-prober still falls back to using the non grub-mount based probing,
when the later isn't available.
Also os-prober doesn't in anyway depend on grub, so there is absolutely no
guarantee it would be available.

Now looking at the non-based probing and it's issues:
1) As already reported in several other open bugs, it may cause data
corruptions, as mount -r doesn't mean that nothing on disk may be change.
Typical example is replaying the log of journalled filesystems but als
non journaled filesystems have a log (e.g. btrfs, though it's not used there
for journalling) and there are well known cases in which replaying the log
is totally undesired,... ranging from when you doing forensics on such
devices to rescue measurements, where replaying a broken log might cause even
   more damage.

2) Even if it wouldn't potentially cause data corruptions, ro mounting, AFAIU
still
may lead to changes one may not want (e.g. last mount time and other
meta-data).
Things which, AFAIU, grub's mount doesn't do (at least that's what it
claims).

3) And possibly even more problematic and also the reason why I mark this as
"causes
   serious data loss"
In the code the block device seems to be set read only... (ro_partition
"$boottomnt")
   WTF?!
No only doesn't the check a few lines before, whether the device is mounted,
guarantee that it's still not rw-mounted a few lines later... but mounted
isn't
the only way the underlying block device may be used/modified.
The first thing that pops to my mind is a filesystem repair in operation,
which may easily end up the fs in a even worse state when interrupted.
Or what about devices exported via nbd?

I hope I didn't miss anything, which would protect against the above issues,
but I didn't want to simulate such problems as I'm a bit too concerned about my
data :)

Cheers,
Chris.

:-) I had to double-check by poking at the source that "Now running
$thing" was specifically debuild rather than dpkg-bp.

debuild already understands -A in order to pass it on to relevant
scripts and set flags internally to tell it to run the binary-indep
target under certain circumstances, so afaict in my not-all-that-awake
state it should be quite simple to have it then reflect that in
the .changes name - at least for the now base case where dpkg-bp is
being run directly.

That's a debuild bug. The majority of your output is from
dpkg-buildpackage directly, but debuild is then running lintian against
the wrong file.

I'm assuming that the above also generated
base-installer_1.158_amd64.build?

Bug#806272: iceweasel: crashes daily on Twitter feed and many other sites using embedded vids

2015-11-25 Thread Marc J. Driftmeyer
Package: iceweasel
Version: 42.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Bare with me as I vent as it is not a slight towards you, the maintainers. I'm
getting really effing sick of this POS crashing daily, repeatedly on various
mainstream web sites.

Don't have a clue how systemd works with Iceweasel but this crap spews in
terminal

2015-11-25 17:36:33: basic_code_modules.cc:70: ERROR: Module
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsystemd.so.0 could not be stored

Getting sick of losing downloads because of this crap. I understand this POS
browser has become a major PITA, but I'm tired of jumping back and forth
between browsers like Chrome, Chromium, Iceweasel and Epiphany. Not a single
one is worth a crap.

If this is something on Debian's side, then best of luck fixing it. If it has
to do with integration of systemd than perhaps Mozilla can get off it's duff
and fix it. It's just demoralizing in 2015 that browsers are a POS and
continuously crash, irregardless of any test harness implemented.

Sincerely,

Marc J. Driftmeyer

P.S. I appreciate the hard work everyone does. It's gotta be frustrating to
take the users frustrations when so many outstanding bugs from Mozilla clearly
shows they don't give a frack about their Linux port.

I see. But you were the one who filed #805718 "... so that binNMUs can be
scheduled without having to wait for every rdep to switch the build dependency
from libdcmtk2-dev to libdcmtk-dev".

So I'm confused. I would presume if you wanted to file the binNMUs, we could
have the old libdcmtk2-dev packages removed from unstable.

At any rate, the ITK dependencies will be updated soon. Gert indicated he's
only waiting for the newest gdcm upload to be released from NEW.

The packages were sitting in the queue for a few days and got just
accepted into jessie-backports, so the full updated nvidia stack should
be available in jessie-backports on the mirrors tomorrow.

There will be another update round soon for the next CVE ... packages
are already in sid and experimental, but this time I expect no
additional infrastructure changes.

I haven't tested it, but I'd expect the experimental nvidia-driver
packages to be installable in jessie-backports, too :-)
So, have fun, and tell us if something breaks ...

Bug#806270: os-prober: should allow to select which block devices to scan and not scan any per default

2015-11-25 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: os-prober
Severity: wishlist

Hey.

Given that there are quite a number of bugs open where os-proper
apparently caused critical data loss and destroyed filesystems it
seems to me that it's modus operandi of scanny all block devices
is generally inapparopriate and far to risky.

Not sure what os-prober does worse than other tools which also
scan all devices, but apparently it does something which actually
may cause changes to these devices; probably mounting, which, even
if read-only, isn't guaranteed to not change a device; OTOH #788062
reports further corruptions, while AFAIU, grub-mount seems to be
used already (see #701814 comment #81).

I think a good solution, which would IMHO even improve the package
if it wouldn't have these corruption issues was to implement the
following:
- allow, via some config file, to configure which block devices are
  scanned
- per default, do not scan any!
- perhaps add a debconf dialog which allows the user to select which
other devices should be added to the config file,... simiarly to
what grub-pc does when it asks for the devices where it should be
  installed.

I think this has several advantages over the current mode:
- The user controls which devices are scanned, which should help to
rule out corruption cases a bit more.
- No need to scan all kinds of devices, which, if there are many,
can take quite a while, spin up unused disks/CDs, etc.
- The user can control which other OS are added,.. right now, AFAIU,
everything found is added, but that may not be what one wants.

Since /dev/disk/by-uuid and friends can be used in the config file,
the whole thing is even deterministic.

Cheers,
Chris.

gcc-5-ports is rejected because the package used for the build is not yet

Bug#806265: Re-sending an account verification link on an already-activated causes a 500 error

2015-11-25 Thread Steve McIntyre
Package: wiki.debian.org
Severity: normal

As reported:

when I try to create a user account on the Debian wiki which uses a
name already taken, I get the following message:

This user name already belongs to somebody else. If this is a new
account and you need another verification link, try sending another
one.

"sending another one" links to
https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Allwinner?action=newaccount&i=1162379783.5.60584&resend=1
in my case. Going to this page results in an internal server error.

I've confirmed this and I can see the problem in the apache logs:

The following files are different after two builds with debuild -b once
the 3 commits are applied:
./installer-amd64/20151024/images/cdrom/gtk/debian-cd_info.tar.gz
./installer-amd64/20151024/images/cdrom/gtk/initrd.gz

./installer-amd64/20151024/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz

I see at least timestamp issues in initramfses; this might be due to the
fact that pigz (installed in my development chroots) seems to need both
-n and -T to behave like gzip's -n.

I might poke a bit more around this before pushing.

Bug#806261: docker-registry: Cannot access config.yml

2015-11-25 Thread Olaf Meeuwissen
Package: docker-registry
Version: 2.1.1~ds1-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I just installed docker-registry and noticed it didn't start up during
installation. A look at /var/log/docker-registry.log said:

configuration error: open /etc/docker/registry/config.yml: permission denied

I tracked this down to a permission issue on /etc/docker/:

  $ ls -dl /etc/docker
  drwx-- 3 root root 4096 Nov 26 08:15 /etc/docker

The init script checks whether it is being run as root so that isn't the
problem but then tries to run `start-stop-daemon --chuid "$EXECUSER"`
with EXECUSER=docker-registry. This means that the BINARY cannot access
its own configuration file. Oops.

A subsequent attempt to purge the package failed because docker-registry
could not be stopped. Obvious, because it isn't running in the first
place. Perhaps you should add a check that it is indeed running before
exiting with a failure when you cannot stop it because it isn't running.

git, where a patch fixes the FTBFS.

After a build with -b, another build with -A doesn't lead to such a
warning, because the “wrong” file is used. (Lucky me, I had no former
builds for this specific version, that's how I noticed the issue in the
first place.)

A ca-certificates version 2.5 example - it's contained in
mozilla/nssckbi.h in the ca-certificates package repo:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190794

Thanks for the mailing list link. I follow the NSS mercurial repository
commits via RSS and check for merges from NSS dev to firefox release
repos. Looks like I checked on 10/22 to see if 2.5 was in the release
tree, but it was not, yet. The release tree I'm checking against is for
firefox releases, so this would be the real-world majority of users
getting CA updates. I started checking against actual firefox releases
after the 1024-bit removal, reinstatement, removal again issues.. I
don't think that cycle ever made it to a firefox release.

http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/users/mshuler-guest/ca-certificates.git/commit/?id=f0d320ad9c517d8c5d2e308ec99e470df4cef938
"- would be nice if they would release NSS sometime soon with this
version.."

Obviously, it looks like I'll need to figure out a different way to
track releases if we want to be spot-on with NSS releases. Yet another
mailing list might be the only answer..

Feel free to add a BTS report when new NSS versions are released.

Thanks again for the feedback.
Michael

I've cherry-picked 3 patches from there onto master locally and I'm

ages…):

I suppose your time is better spent actually working on kfreebsd so
that's why I decided to cherry-pick the patches myself.

FWIW, I'm not exactly entirely convinced by the exporting of the
SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH variable from debian/rules; all other variables have
been passed without exporting so I'm wondering if we shouldn't adapt
this to behave like other variables, reducing possible surprise for
users.

I don't think that's a showstopper for a push to master though; just
thinking out loud.

Bug#806260: Unnecessary period on the end of systemd service description in pppd-dns.service

2015-11-25 Thread Piotr Jurkiewicz

Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.6-3.1
Severity: minor

By convention systemd service descriptions should not end with a period,
because systemd adds period on its own. Now, log messages for this
service ends with doubled periods, what is inconsistent with the rest of
system and suggests that this service is waiting for something:

systemd[1]: Started Restore /etc/resolv.conf if the system crashed
before the ppp link was shut down..

Suggested fix:

In file pppd-dns.service change:

[Unit]
Description=Restore /etc/resolv.conf if the system crashed before the
ppp link was shut down.

to:

[Unit]
Description=Restore /etc/resolv.conf if the system crashed before the
ppp link was shut down

Reinstalling doesn't change the code, so that's not expected to fix an
upstream issue such as this.

GRASS 7 has greatly improved the Unicode support, but issues such as
this one and #676190 are still outstanding.

I'll add your feedback to the upstream issue, hopefully it will get
fixed in one of the next GRASS releases.

The vmm package creates the group `vmm'. So you can add system users to
the vmm group.
Create a file, e.g. `vmm_sudoers'

,--[ vmm_sudoers ]--
| # vim: ft=sudoers
| Cmnd_AliasVMM_CMD = /usr/sbin/vmm
| %vmm ALL = NOPASSWD: VMM_CMD
`--

Admins who want to allow the usage of vmm for members of the vmm group
can execute:

install -m 440 vmm_sudoers /etc/sudoers.d

Members of the group vmm will be able to execute vmm commands, e.g.:

sudo vmm ld

Lazy users can create an alias:

alias vmm='sudo /usr/sbin/vmm'

The vmm package then should suggest the sudo package.

Bug#806259: xserver-xorg: Depends on xserver-xorg-legacy | systemd

2015-11-25 Thread Celelibi
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.7+12
Severity: important

Dear maintainer,

I don't want to install systemd on my computer, but the new version of
xserver-xorg want systemd in order to run as a user. To circumvent this,
I see a package xserver-xorg-legacy has been added to run xorg as root
if needed.

Would it be possible to make xserver-xorg either:
- integrate the xorg wrapper in xserver-xorg so that xorg is always run
  as root if needed;
- make the package depend on xserver-xorg-legacy to achieve the same
  effect;
- make the package depend on "xserver-xorg-legacy | systemd" so that
the wrapper is only installed if needed?

Best regards,
Celelibi

Tried those steps but I'm unable to reproduce it.

So I guess we will need at least a verbose journal log.
Which desktop environment is this? Does it make a difference if you use

Fair point, and likely my bad.

It would make coexistence of the two packages impossible whereas the idea of
renaming is presumably to allow that.

Bug#542521: xl2tpd: No CONFIG_PPPOL2TP support compiled in.

2015-11-25 Thread Baptiste Jonglez
Hi,

I am re-opening this bug report, since kernel support has been fixed
upstream in version 1.3.2. It is also enabled by default upstream, see:

  https://github.com/xelerance/xl2tpd/blob/master/CHANGES#L31

However, because the Debian package overrides the CFLAGS variable, it
didn't pick up this change. Attached is a patch enabling kernel support
for version 1.3.6+dfsg.

Bug#803235: Comment: New Distro won't load

2015-11-25 Thread Seascale Industrial Controls
Distro:
Debian 8.1 64bit AMD Install 13 Disc Set from OSDisc.com
Manufactured 14 Sep 2015

User:
Dave Crosby info seascalecontrols.com
Washington State, USA (too close to Remond!)

PC:
HP desktop - 2011 vintage (or so) AMD 64 dual core

Scenario:
Loading new Distro from scratch from discs fails.

The Problem:
New distro stops unpacking/loading software about 7/8 of the way through
(before loading bootloader). Unrecoverable error during loading. I
investigated by reading installation syslog using the installation
shell. Syslog reveals the dependency problem stated in bug 803235. This
bug causes more than "makes most automatic stable update schemes
fail." ; It renders new installation of 8.1 (and presumably 8.2)
from standard 64 bit disc sets impossible. The halted, but partially
installed system isn't yet capable of doing an apt-get for the missing
dependency like the bug report's 'systems admins' are. This seems to
render the ($33) disk set worthless.

I've ordered an 8.0 set which hopefully will be early enough to not have
the dependency problem.

Bug#799314: policyd-weight: false positive for BOGUS_MX

2015-11-25 Thread Werner Detter
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi Julien,

I suggest a new config variable $IGNORE_RFC1918_A.

If enabled (1) A records with RFC1918 addresses aren't treated as bogus
addresses by policyd-weight
anymore and therefore bogus_mx_score is not added. So the current behavior
persists and can be
changed if needed. My Patch (see [1]) worked in my lab environment so far. I'll
upload the new package
soon to mentors and let you know.

Werner

I appreciate your offer, but at the moment, not really... I already did
the part with the upstream source files, for all commits since the
initial revision -- that's how I recreated the ~70 patches out of the
single format 1.0 diff. The result of this is in the aforementioned sf3
(up to 3.0pl1-123, I think).

The sheer size and number of changes make this really hard to get into,
but I'm already halfway through a review and reorg, after which it
should be much easier.

Once I've cleaned things up, I'll gladly come back to you for help and
review! This is a big change, and I'd feel much more comfortable with
more eyes looking into this.

Christian

Perhaps you installed plymouth after Linux 4.2?  Only the newest
initramfs is updated when you install plymouth (and most other packages
that trigger an initramfs update).

After launching Grass GUI, and when I try to enter into some modules, I get
the following message : 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 8:
ordinal not in range(128). The problem is that I have not imported raster

Anyways, the problem seems to concern Python language but I am not expert

Bug#533708: Licenses on libhugetlbfs files

2015-11-25 Thread Eric B Munson

On 2015-11-25 15:42, Mel Gorman wrote:

On Wed, Nov 25, 2015 at 02:40:19PM -0500, Geoffrey Thomas wrote:

Hi Mel, Eric, and Jarod,

I'm looking into uploading libhugetlbfs to Debian, and I wanted to
double-check a few files with ambiguous copyright or license notices.
I assume they're all intended to be LGPLv2.1+ like the rest of the
package but they're not labeled as such.

* huge_page_setup_helper.py is labeled just "(c) Red Hat, Inc., 2009,"
but does not have a license statement. Jarod, can this be used under
LGPLv2.1+?

I can't comment on this at all.

* Similarly, oprofile_start.sh just says "oprofile_start.sh (c) Mel
Gorman 2008" with no license statement. Mel, is this also LGPLv2.1+?

It was originally part of a GPL project but I fully intended it to have
the same license as libhugetlbfs when I created the patches. I had the
full rights to relicense it as the primary author.

* A few files (TLBC/*, contrib/tlbmiss_cost.sh, cpupcstat,
oprofile_map_events.pl) are "Licensed under LGPL 2.1 as packaged with
libhugetlbfs." Eric, Mel, I assume that these are intended to be
LGPLv2.1 or any higher version, like the rest of the package?

Same here, the intent was to have the same license as libhugetlbfs
and I'm the principal author. However, I would suggest dropping them
from a package. They were valid at the time of writing but things like
oprofile_map_events.pl were not actively maintained and it would not be
used like that today. tlbmiss_cost.sh might still be valid in some
cases
but modern TLB implementations are notoriously difficult to measure and
I
would not trust the results it produced. If I needed to know the TLB
miss

overhead in cycles these days, I would use different methods.

I will put together a patch that drops them at some point, I don't think
anyone is actually using them.

Less importantly:

* alloc.c and two tests have _just_ a license, not a copyright
statement; I guess they're owned by IBM?

Yes. I was the main author and I was an employee of IBM at the time.
The terms of my contract transferred copyright to IBM.

* There are a few other files without copyright notices, but right now
I'm assuming they're under the LGPL (though it would be great to have
comments on them, or a clear statement in a README). It's the ones
that have a copyright statement and no license that I want to be
particularly sure of.

* For the files that say things like "Copyright (C) 2005-2006 David
Gibson & Adam Litke, IBM Corporation.", do you know if the copyright
is held by the individuals as well as IBM, or just by IBM? I can just
copy these statements verbatim into debian/copyright, but it seems
worth clarifying.

At the time, both of those guys were employees of IBM at the time.

Sorry about the annoyance, but Debian cares about getting this stuff
right (and I think that's a good policy, honestly).

Thanks for double checking and it's not even remotely annoying. I
understand and agree with your concerns.

I can send in a
follow-up patch to add comments to the files that don't have copyright
notices once I get responses; I'd also be okay with a notice in the
README that clearly asserts a license for the entire package, if you'd
prefer that.

If you cc me on the patch then I can explicitly ack the parts I'm
confident
of. However, I do not have merge rights to that library (or at least
I'm
unaware of it if I do). Eric does but I've no idea if he does any
maintenance
work on it any more. I've taken the liberty of cc'ing him on an address
that
should be active just in case he's not reading the email address you
used.

I would be happy to merge such a patch. Until I have a new mailing
list,

please post a pull request on GitHub so anyone that may be watching can
see it.

Thanks for cc'ing my work address, but I do all libhugetlbfs work from
this

address to keep all my libhugetlbfs work separate from my Akamai work.

(By the way, I seem to be unable to subscribe to the librelist, which
is maybe where I should ask this - at least I have gotten no
confirmation email from my subscribe email, and I'm not sure how to
send without first subscribing as described in SubmittingCode.)

I'm actually not subscribed to the libhugetlbfs-devel mailing list at
the
moment so I know nothing about it. When I unsubscribed, it was a hell
hole

of spam. There was very little real traffic once the project was deemed
feature complete for anything people cared about.

Part of the motivation to move to librelist was the lack of spam
filtering

on Sourceforge. Unfortunately, the librelist doesn't seem to keep the
list around, so I am hunting for a new host. I will update the GitHub
repo when I find one.

Also if there's anything you'd like me to be aware of when preparing
the Debian package or to package in a certain way, do let me know.

Nothing in particular other than I would suggest separating the library
and the administrative utilities such as hugeadm into separate
packages.

Bug#806256: libpam-systemd: log out from a TTY and your X input devices get lost!

2015-11-25 Thread Francesco Poli (wintermute)
Package: libpam-systemd
Version: 228-2
Severity: normal

Hello,
I noticed a weird bug that is possibly caused by libpam-systemd.

Steps to reproduce (on a box with systemd as PID 1 process):

  0) login on TTY1 (virtual terminal 1) as a regular user

  1) start an X session with

 $ startx

  2) press [Ctrl+Alt+F2], in order to switch to TTY2

  3) login on TTY2 as the same user

  4) logout by pressing [Ctrl+D] on the empty command prompt

  5) awkwardly the screen goes automatically back to the X session
(rather than showing a fresh new TTY2 login prompt)

  6) even more awkwardly, any keyboard and mouse input is ignored
except for [Ctrl+Alt+F1], which however causes the screen to
go blank and immediately enter sleep mode

  7) the only way out seems to be a poweroff command, issued by
pressing the power button (which is handled by acpid)

I didn't try to SSH into the box and take a look at the system...

I suspect that this bug is caused by libpam-systemd, since starting
an X session on a box with systemd as PID 1 process, but without
libpam-systemd installed, causes the same inability to use X input
devices.

I noticed this bug some days ago with libpam-systemd/227-2: I waited
for version 228-2 to migrate to testing, before reporting the bug.
After reproducing the same exact misbehavior with libpam-systemd/228-2,
I decided that it is time to report it.

Could you please investigate this bug and fix it and/or forward it
upstream, as appropriate?

Thanks for your time!
Bye.

Bug#806239: Updating ca-certificates through stable-updates

2015-11-25 Thread Andrew Ayer
Hi Stable Release Managers,

We're currently discussing in #806239 how to keep the
ca-certificates package more up-to-date in (old)stable. Since
ca-certificates is a data package that needs timely updating (when CAs
are removed due to lapsed audits, they should be distrusted
immediately), it satisfies the criteria for stable-updates posted here:

https://www.debian.org/News/2011/20110215

I just wanted to confirm that the SRMs would be OK pushing out new
ca-certificates packages through stable-updates.

Thanks,
Andrew

Bug#796208: libnss3 removed the SPI CA

2015-11-25 Thread Josh Triplett
Related to this bug, nss removed this CA today:

nss (2:3.21-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * nss/lib/ssl/sslsock.c: Disable transitional scheme for SSL renegotiation.
5 years after the transition started, it shouldn't be necessary anymore.
  * nss/lib/ckfw/builtins/certdata.txt: Remove the SPI CA.
  * nss/lib/util/secload.c: Fix a warning introduced by our patch to this file.
  * debian/libnss3.symbols: Add NSS_3.21 symbol versions.

 -- Mike Hommey Wed, 25 Nov 2015 09:18:30 +0900

Between Let's Encrypt and StartCom, I agree that SPI doesn't need to run a CA
anymore, especially not a CA that only Debian systems trust. Debian sites
should use certificates that all browsers trust, which they can easily do now.

I'm not sure what these version numbers are. NSS 3.19.3 was released
on August 7 and removed 5 CAs[1]. So why no release of ca-certificates
until now?

OK. As a data package that needs timely updating, it should qualify
for stable-updates. As I understand the process, this requires
uploading to proposed-updates, and then the Stable Release Managers
pull it over to stable-updates[2].

Not normally, no. Since the symlinks exist in the package corresponding
to the traditional opposite architecture, I suppose you could
technically work around the issue by declaring a build dependency on
libc6-dev-amd64 [i386], but that would be an ugly, and potentially
fragile, hack.

Bug#806253: libidl-2-0: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libIDL-2.so.0.0.0', which is also in package libidl0:amd64 0.8.14-1

2015-11-25 Thread James McCoy
Package: libidl-2-0
Version: 0.8.14-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.6

Since libidl0 was renamed to libidl-2-0, the new libidl-2-0 needs to
declare Breaks/Replaces on libidl0 (<< 0.8.14-2) per policy §7.6.1.
As this wasn't done when the package was renamed, an upgrade currently
fails:

Bug#533708: Licenses on libhugetlbfs files

I can't comment on this at all.

It was originally part of a GPL project but I fully intended it to have
the same license as libhugetlbfs when I created the patches. I had the
full rights to relicense it as the primary author.

Same here, the intent was to have the same license as libhugetlbfs
and I'm the principal author. However, I would suggest dropping them
from a package. They were valid at the time of writing but things like
oprofile_map_events.pl were not actively maintained and it would not be
used like that today. tlbmiss_cost.sh might still be valid in some cases
but modern TLB implementations are notoriously difficult to measure and I
would not trust the results it produced. If I needed to know the TLB miss
overhead in cycles these days, I would use different methods.

Yes. I was the main author and I was an employee of IBM at the time.
The terms of my contract transferred copyright to IBM.

At the time, both of those guys were employees of IBM at the time.

Thanks for double checking and it's not even remotely annoying. I
understand and agree with your concerns.

If you cc me on the patch then I can explicitly ack the parts I'm confident
of. However, I do not have merge rights to that library (or at least I'm
unaware of it if I do). Eric does but I've no idea if he does any maintenance
work on it any more. I've taken the liberty of cc'ing him on an address that
should be active just in case he's not reading the email address you used.

I'm actually not subscribed to the libhugetlbfs-devel mailing list at the
moment so I know nothing about it. When I unsubscribed, it was a hell hole
of spam. There was very little real traffic once the project was deemed
feature complete for anything people cared about.

Nothing in particular other than I would suggest separating the library
and the administrative utilities such as hugeadm into separate packages.

Thanks Geoffrey.

Bug#768236: ffcall: FTBFS on ppc64el: No rule to make target 'avcall-powerpc64le.lo'

2015-11-25 Thread Fernando Seiti Furusato
Hello, Christoph.

There was a patch sent upstream to fix this some time ago, sent on
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?45251

It was already applied, though I do not know if that version was released.
In any case, would it be possible for you to upgrade the package or
backport
that patch?

Thanks!
Fernando

Go ahead.
