[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1368167] Re: Keyboard: Different input for each window sources does not work after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04

2014-12-02 Thread Aron Xu
This is the expected behavior as ibus upstream removed that
functionality intentionally, you may want to try an alternative input
method framework (e.g. fcitx) if you really need the feature.

Bug description:
In the 69-language-selector-zh-??.conf files we try to make Droid Sans
the preferred font in case of a Chinese locale. However, suddenly this
seems to not work any longer.

  $ LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8 fc-match 'sans-serif'
uming.ttc: AR PL UMing CN Light
  $ sudo sed -i 's/Droid Sans Fallback/Droid Sans/' \
   /etc/fonts/conf.avail/69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf
  $ LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8 fc-match 'sans-serif'
  DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf: Droid Sans Regular

It looks like the intended behaviour gets back if the family name is
changed from Droid Sans Fallback to just Droid Sans. I have
noticed this on both 14.04 and 14.10, but have no idea of the reason
  for the changed behaviour.

  * Does this affect others, or is it something with my machine?
  * Should we replace Droid Sans Fallback with Droid Sans in those
files?
  * Undesired side effects if we do?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1208861] [NEW] Sync libxslt 1.1.28-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-08-06 Thread Aron Xu
Public bug reported:

Please sync libxslt 1.1.28-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Resynchronize on Debian, remaining ubuntu difference:
  * 0004-fix-python-multiarch-include.patch: fix for multiarch python version

The patch was introduced in 1.1.27-1ubuntu1, the patch header says it is used
to fix an FTBFS. I have locally tried to build 1.1.28-2 without the patch and
the build was successful, so that the patch can be dropped to elimite diffs
with Debian.

Changelog entries since current saucy version 1.1.28-1ubuntu1:

libxslt (1.1.28-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/000[4-8].patch:
Upstream post release patches.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218342] [NEW] g-s-d/g-c-c should not hard code dependency on ibus

2013-08-29 Thread Aron Xu
Public bug reported:

In saucy we have enabled ibus integration in g-s-d/g-c-c, and hard coded
the dependency of ibus (= 1.5.0). This is very troublesome for users of
other input methods, even though they can disable ibus through im-
config.

Unnecessary dependency is a hack to ensure upgrade path, which is a bit
ugly and should be done in other way. A possible solution is changing
Depends to Recommends since apt honors it by default.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173571] Re: please change wenquanyi micro hei back with 69-language-selector-zh-tw.conf

2014-01-14 Thread Aron Xu
But Droid Sans can give way better screen experience than the
alternatives you pointed above. And I believe it's more reasonable to
default to those fonts in printing materials, i.e. in libreoffice.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173571] Re: please change wenquanyi micro hei back with 69-language-selector-zh-tw.conf

2014-01-18 Thread Aron Xu
Just FYI, one of the reasons why WQY Microhei is not maintained is that,
at some time a Droid Sans Fallback update released by Google contains
many more characters than in Microhei, while the project's initial goal
was to expand the original Droid Sans to get better coverage.

It's currently impossible to get the best appearance for character if no
hand-crafted hinting is involved for each type face, even WQY project
had that pushed forward a large step while making Microhei, the project
leader still said that quality of the font will never match those fonts
made by commercial companies because of the limited availability of
volunteer manpower.

Adding a task for ubuntukylin-default-settings, which currently just
overwrites the Logo file in its chroot script. This would be needed to
be done using dpkg-divert, when g-c-c does not support setting

In short, many IBus engines have their own context menu.

In vanilla IBus1.4.x, it can either be embedded into tray icon or be shown in
independent language panel.
The default option is Embedded in menu, it embeds the context menu to tray
icon. While other options When active and Always uses langauge panel.

With IBus indicator, however, the context menu is totally invisible
with the default option Embedded in menu. One has to manually enable
When active or Always to access the per engine context menu.

Hi, I decided to try to switch from SCIM to iBus in Karmic since it is
supposed to be the wave of the future.

  First, I tried to run:

  im-switch -s ibus

But this did not work because I had a broken link in ~/.xinput.d/en_US

After removing this link, I was able to enable ibus. I logged out and
back in and tried to use it.

It does appear to allow me to input Chinese characters, however, it
refuses to show the language panel, which makes Pinyin input
completely useless. Changing the setting in ibus-setup to always
show it still doesn't cause it to appear.

If it makes any difference, I removed all of the hotkeys except Alt-
Grave, since I don't have most of them and Ctrl-Space is kind of
  important for Emacs.

Is there any way that I can debug this? I'm mystified as to what
program actually runs to show the panel in the first place.

Also, I don't have a notification icon for ibus (strangely enough I
had one if I started it up when I had SCIM running...)

This is not a problem in IBus, but a problem of how XIM works.

If the handler program of XIM is not responsive (died, suspended, or
just two slow), then the program that it is used to input to will die
without rescue, this is essentially what happened as described
predictable way to crash other apps.

To avoid such problem, port the application to use any of the IM
Modules, or just start IBus using the recommended way.

Title:
predictable way to crash other apps via ibus

Status in “ibus” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I can reliably crash third-party apps the following way on an up-to-
  date lucid system.

  1) start ibus-daemon on the command-line
  2) start third-party app
  3) toggle input via ibus
  4) Ctrl-Z on ibus to put it in the background

All apps using ibus will essentially lock up at this stage. Typing
bg to keep ibus running in the background is not possible. You have
to switch to the virtual terminal for that where a killall -s CONT
ibus-daemon will allow you to regain control of your X session. But
all apps using ibus at that stage will crash a few seconds later and
  have to be restarted.

When I installed ibus-mozc 0.13.464.102, I found that IBus ignores TAB
key event in gedit. So I cannot enter candidate selection mode of
ibus-mozc even if a suggestion window is shown. Instead, an incorrect
  TAB character is inserted.

I also confirmed the same problem using ibus-skk. The completion of
indexes cannot be started by TAB key.

The version number of IBus is 1.3.7-1ubuntu3.

I reported this bug in IBus issue 1068.

This isn't a bug, the behavior is expected as the GTK+ application is
launched with root privilege but the session is run using another user.
So it warns that the owner of ibus's configuration file isn't root, and
it's only a warning.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1244929] Re: ibus/bus file needs to be owned by both root and user

2013-11-04 Thread Aron Xu
This is because that the owner of ~/.config/ibus/bus should always be
the user you logged in, and if you use sudo/gksu to run any command this
warning will appear but that's expected and please just ignore it. If
you removed the file/directory and re-run a command with sudo/gksu, then
it will be re-created with the wrong owner, causing further problems in
your normal operation.

methods using the setup window, this should be considered a high
  priority bug for ibus.

  Please fix this. Thank you.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1249208] [NEW] Avoid conflicting SuperSpace shortcut with g-s-d

2013-11-07 Thread Aron Xu
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Now we are using SuperSpace as the shortcut of switching IME forward, and the
shortcut is handled twice: first in g-s-d and then in ibus. This leads to a
conflict and the shortcut does not really work.

[Test Case]
Old behavior:
Press SuperSpace does not have any effect of changing the IME forward.

Expected behavior:
After installing the updated package, user removes ibus configuration files in
~/.config/ibus and ~/.cache/ibus, and re-login to the system, SuperSpace
should work for people who are using Unity or GNOME Shell.

[Regression Potential]
IBus may still push notification message about SuperSpace as the shortcut for
users of other desktop, but the shortcut in effect would be CtrlSpace when
there is no other program grabbing the key press (like what g-s-d does).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1249208] Re: Avoid conflicting SuperSpace shortcut with g-s-d

2013-11-08 Thread Aron Xu
I talked with seb128 and wants to re-evaluate the way of shortcuts
handling, so this is a transitional solution in trusty. We have a chance
to get rid of ibus integration from GNOME in trusty to avoid such odd
situation.

Also SuperSpace isn't really good UX, and might be reverted later.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1241881] Re: gnome-keyring depends on transitional package libgcr-3-1

2013-11-10 Thread Aron Xu
Dependency on libgcr-3-1 is gone in gnome-keyring/3.8.2-0ubuntu3.1, but
it's still not possible to remove libgcr-3-1 because at lease seahorse
is still depending on it.

Title:
gnome-keyring depends on transitional package libgcr-3-1

Status in “gnome-keyring” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “gnome-keyring” source package in Saucy:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
According its package description, libgcr-3-1 version 3.8.2-4 in Saucy
Salamander is a transitional package that should be safe to remove.
However, an attempt to remove the package reveals that gnome-keyring
(version 3.8.2-0ubuntu3) depends on it. I cannot tell if removing the
dependency from gnome-keyring was forgotten or libgcr-3-1 has been
wrongfully marked as transitional, but the latter seems highly
unlikely. Either way this is a problem that should be fixed.

  [Rationale]
People should be able to remove transitional packages without removing the
packages that depend on their replacements. This is forbidding people from
removing libgcr-3-1 without removing gnome-keyring as well.

  [Test Case]
Install the gnome-keyring package, and then try removing the transitional
libgcr-3-1 package. It forces the removal of gnome-keyring, even though
gnome-keyring should depend on libgcr-base-3-1 instead.

  [Regression Potential]
None. This is just a simple dependency change.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1221593] Re: ibus-ui-gtk3 crashed with SIGABRT in _g_log_abort()

2013-11-14 Thread Aron Xu
It looks the crash is triggered by an assertion that user's input method
list shouldn't be empty, but when first boot ibus-ui-gtk3 starts before
ibus populate the input method list to user configurations.

This bug is caused by a patch from upstream developer applied in Fedora
19, but when ibus upgraded to 1.5.4 there he no longer cares about 1.5.3
and updates his patch against 1.5.4 only.

Status in “ibus-chewing” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
An attempt to install traditional Chinese on my Raring installation
failed, and it took quite a while to figure out why.

I have stated in Software Sources that updates also from raring-
proposed shall be installed. Consequenty Ubuntu tried to install
version 1.4.3-1 of ibus-chewing. That version is dependent on ibus
1.5, and since a previous version of ibus is and will be included in
Raring, ibus-chewing couldn't be installed. Together with the fact
that ibus-chewing is one of the language support packages for
traditional Chinese, the whole language installation failed.

I think it would be advisable to move the latest versions of ibus-
chewing from raring-proposed to a PPA.

Alt+Print Screen only takes picture of the HUD

Status in Ubuntu Kylin:
  Triaged
Status in Unity:
  Confirmed
Status in “gnome-screenshot” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
According to Ubuntu Desktop Guide (see attached screenshot of the
Ubuntu Desktop Guide) pressing Alt+Print Screen should take a
  screenshot of a window.

However when I press Alt+Print Screen it always takes the screenshot
of the launcher and not of the active window.
