[l10n-dev] Re: IMPORTANT: pls fix double names

2011-04-15 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hi, Rafaella,

looking at the results for Slovenian (sl) I see 1 error, but do not
understand it (besides that some tests report: "failed", so are there
additional errors not explained?).

Here is a snippet from the Slovenian part of the report, please explain the
error to me as I do not understand it:

ooo/l10ntools/scripts/doublecheck.sh
10 strings found in sl/localize.sdf for -m sw -f source.ui.utlui.poolfmt.src
-g STR_POOLNUMRULE_.* -l .*
Entry double for LANG=sl in file sl/localize.sdf
swsource\ui\utlui\poolfmt.src0string
STR_POOLCOLL_HEADLINE_BASE0slNaslov
20110324 13:31:50
swsource\ui\utlui\poolfmt.src0string
STR_POOLCOLL_DOC_TITEL0slNaslov
20110324 13:31:50
122 strings found in sl/localize.sdf for -m sw -f
source.ui.utlui.poolfmt.src -g STR_POOLCOLL_.* -l .*
failed

It would help if the test would also list the original English entry. In
this case the problem is because both strings are the same? What if in a
given language two different English terms use same word? What is the
original English text (I should probably check the Slovenian sdf).

Thanks,
m.

Hi,

this is a known bug:

The 3.x is a moving target and it seems the bug will not be fixed in OOo,
but thankfully this bug has been fixed in LibreOffice.

[l10n-dev] New strings

2011-03-03 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hi,
m101 introduced these four strings that I do not know what they correspond
to. Can someone explain them to me?

1/2) Start with center / End with center

3) Files Found
(is it used with a numeral before it, like 10 Files Found, or is it just a
brief that some files have been found?)

4) Global View

Re: [l10n-dev] OpenOffice.org 3.3 - PLS approve and request language versions

2011-02-18 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hi *,

I have a small problem with the concept of automatic testing and approving
as well. The automatic testing after the time for manual testing has passed
presumes that all L10N teams want to release their language version.

However there could be a situation where the localization would be subpar
for the lang team translation quality criteria to release - but in your
scenario the team loses the possibility to stop the release in their
language (in the old system the lang team simply did not start testing the
release).

So the change is this: instead of
you test and release all builds you can
you are proposing
we will test and release all if you do not have resources or time

Of course the benefit to OOo is that it is released in many more languages.
But what good are these numbers if the localizations are not tested by
native speakers?

The automatic testing doesn't seem to go well with languages that do not
have tests localized - will now even languages without localized tests be
released as QAed?

I know many of these thoughts are speculations on my part, but I just want
to open discussion about questions that really matter
translation-quality-wise - the testing of which cannot be left to the
Hamburg team or computers - as they do not understand/speak ... Slovenian :)

Lp, m.

[l10n-dev] m100

2011-02-12 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

the m100 brings several updates of strings in help, where I am puzzled if
this is a true change:
hid=\"sw:CheckBox:TP_OPTPRINT_PAGE:CB_BLACK_FONT\"
gets changed into
hid=\"SW:CHECKBOX:TP_OPTPRINT_PAGE:CB_BLACK_FONT\"

Is this not a consequence of the OOo help editor? Is this change really
necessary (i.e. if this is not necessary you are making 100 l10n teams
translate/edit/ review these strings for no reason at all).

Just want to know before I start working (in vain?).

Thanks,
m.

Obviously in the 6 milestones from m84 to m92 some code changes happened,
those files had each a small number of similar strings, they must have been
removed or joined or something.

You can look into EIS what happened within those milestones and even find a
CWS that did that change.

Re: [l10n-dev] IMPORTANT: last translation / l10n fixes deadline for OpenOffice.org 3.3

Dear Rafaella,

I just entered an issue for final Slovenian 3.3 sdf:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=114778

It includes the translation of new strings introduced with OOO330-m9.

Re: [l10n-dev] On translating product names (Was: About string change in latest trasnsation drop: @MINIMIZEREXTENSIONPRODUCTNAME@)

2010-09-22 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Goran,

although this does not directly reply to your post (I agree with what you
wrote) I believe this extension just doesn't get build for languages, not
officially supported by Oracle (was Sun - the Star Office supported
languages, now Oracle Open Office).

Which is a shame. I asked about this on this list a few months ago but did
not get even a single reply.

Might we just stop wasting our time translating these extensions?

Re: [l10n-dev] About string change in latest trasnsation drop: @MINIMIZEREXTENSIONPRODUCTNAME@

2010-09-22 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Plus OpenOffice.org does not provide localized builds, only Oracle does so
most teams should not even localize it (unless Oracle pays us). Thank God
Pavel does make builds, although not Windows ones, so our Slovenian
translation can at least be seen and used!

The OOOVENDOR string, I guess, is set in the build scripts.

Was there another m8 after the second sdf? I mean, I have my own translation

they have the necessary LPPL license, as can be seen in the TeX repository.

I checked m7, it does not contain the new strings. And what you wrote seems
like a contradiction to me.

ooo330l10n3 is the last integration CWS for localizations, and only when
this CWS is introduced, the new strings will get into OOo.

So how can we localize them (if we changed our sdf's in the last month, we
must update strings to latest po's) - if the CWS that should already include
our latest translations is the one that introduces them.

So, is it possible to add the new strings to a CWS that will be included at
least one milestone before the milestone where ooo330l10n3 will be included?

Thanks,
m.

Re: [l10n-dev] Latest l10n builds from cws ooo330l10n3 are ready

2010-09-10 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello, Ivo,

your manoevre solves things for current stuff in the OOO330 for languages
that do not plan updates anymore.

For Slovenian, I have made several edits since m5 so I will need to resend
the gsi/sdf file which probably means I will have to translate this new
strings (well, I will get fuzzy matches by the translation process, I
guess), right?

Since end of September is the deadline, can I send a link to the latest sdf
file in an issue? I don't know how to make a diff file and I do not have the
latest gsi file used - the one you edited now by copy-pasting some
translation from other parts of sdf.

Yes, it does affect all languages. Definitely a showstopper for 3.3.

Will a new round of localizations delivery be necessary for this.

Re: [l10n-dev] 'Find' text in new Find toolbar

2010-08-25 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

I just tried Slovenian build of 000330l10n2 and immediately tried the "Find"
text and the "Find & Replace" text.

The "Find" text now appears localized (in Slovenian).

Traslators on this list also reported that "Find & Replace" was not
localizable and were told that was not a new string but that it will only
get reused from the available translations.

Well, Slovenian is 100% translated in GUI an Help, but in OOO330l10n2 this
text still appears in English, so this bug has not been squashed yet!

See for yourself in the attached jpg.

publish the extension on the extensions site?

on different spots or some appearances of the equal strings don't have an

Hello,

I am using my own translation web-site based system, not Pootle, for
Slovenian (sl). It is based on Translate Toolkit as well.

The latest stats for the OOO330m4 including the 21 stings previously not
recognized by oo2po.py are as follows:
72716 strings
48934 different strings (with match case)
47801 different strings (without match case)

Re: [l10n-dev] Tooltips not localizable?

2010-08-19 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Andras,

when I finally found way to manually make pot files from sdf with that
script correction, I got two additional pot files, that did not exist
before:
officecfg/registry/schema/org/openoffice/Office.po
sdext/source/minimizer/registry/schema/org/openoffice/Office/extension.po

Both seem empty.

Andras, I use TT for Windows, there is only oo2po.exe, no python script. I
added it, but it does not seem to work although I do have python installed.

So that won't work for me for now.

Re: [l10n-dev] Tooltips not localizable?

2010-08-18 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

I have my own Pootle-like translation system I developed (it downloads
chosen sdf from OOo mirror servers and creates pot files from them, then
update/migrate it from previous milestone po translations of my choice).
For those commands I use Translate Toolkit and gsicheck. Does that mean that
I have those strings translated?

Well I checked my final SDF I reported in in the IZ yesterday as final
Slovenian SDF for 3.3 and it is not localized! What now? Should I localize
it manually and then for every SDF the same way, manually localizing 21
strings? I don't think that is an option.

Maybe here is a simple solution for the OOo team - create a special pot file
just for these 21 strings so all lang teams can translate them and send in
the po files. Then you OOo devs can write a special script that will replace
those 21 strings in the final delivered SDF files?

For the DEV300 the patch should be used to move this strings in such
format/location so that they can be localized via Translate Toolkit/Pootle
the normal way. Of course the ultimate solution would be to update Translate
Toolkit but we do not have time now (in 1 hour there is the deadline for
localization SDF delivery).

Just my 2 cents,
Martin

[l10n-dev] Tooltips not localizable?

2010-08-18 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

today I saw this bug reported:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=113961

This obviously means that there are several undocumented tool-tips
unlocalizable in 3.3 and that that is a known fact to some people at OOo.
Please someone make an assessment about the seriousness (the amount of these
unlocalizable strings) and I hope that this bug and all other unlocalizable
strings become a stopper bug for 3.3.

Every programmer touching the OOo code should be aware how to deal with
l10n, it should not be an error that every programmer gets by without any
repercussions. At least the authors of these tool-tips will learn something,
if this becomes a stopper. Otherwise they will not even know they did
something wrong.

that is solved in some other upcoming CWS.

Re: [l10n-dev] New string in OOO330 m3 . Pootle servers will be updated tonight to m3

2010-08-04 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Ivo,

I downloaded the m3 sdf and updated my Slovenian translation but m3
does not show any new strings for me.

I checked if there are any more appearances of strings "Find" and
"Find & Replace" than in m1 (those are the two strings missing for
this toolbar, not just one string as you wrote - Find is in the text
box and "Find & Replace" is missing from the dropdown menu on the
right, from the Visible buttons submenu), but I could not find any.

Could it be that the GUI is using already available translations (in
m1/2) of these strings, meaning m3 does not require additional work
from us translators?

Thanks,
m.

Well, sooner or later it needs to be translated, so why not sooner.

Also, extensions are translated for years now, but Sun/Oracle does not
provide localized builds of them, so the translations cannot be seen

[l10n-dev] Language Packs and dictionaries

2010-07-31 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

as far as I know, lang packs do not contain dictionaries for the
language of the GUI to be installed.

Yet OOo is saying for beta version there will be only langpacks to
test with the English full build. So obviously OOo developers think:
English full build + langpack for language XY = full build build for
XY language.
That would be logical, every user downloading a lang pack expects just
that. But ...

That is not so. Testers/users need to add the dictionary. Where do
they get it from? Does the lang-pack install program warn user about
it, does it offer any links? And that is not even mentioned clearly in
the official installation guide for 3.x.

I know there was some issue in IZ asking for inclusion of dictionaries
into the lang packs but obviously this has not been done. Can't find
it now.

Until then for testing languages only full builds for those languages
are appropriate. After installing the lang pack you still have a not
fully functional non-English OOo.

[l10n-dev] templates etc.

2010-07-29 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

I remember we localized templates and other files (palettes or
something like that, several kinds of files) for OpenOffice.org back
in the days of upcoming 3.0 or something like that (when the format
changed, I believe).

Since changes to these kind of files (most of them are with strange
endings, like xcu or something like that, some are zipped with xml
files inside) are not announced anywhere - do we have to update any of
the localized files? Have there been new files that have still not
been localized since 3.0?

It would be nice to have a list of these non-Pootle files somewhere
with a date of last change notes, so that each team can check if
updates were made after last update of the original.

To cut it short - do I need to update or translate from scratch any
other files for 3.3?

Thanks,
m.

It is OK for Slovenian.

Slovenian version has problems with not enough space for strings
"Orientation", "Distance" and "Order" in Calc. Same applies to Writer
only that "Distance" has enough space there, and probably to other
modules. I can't make these strings shorter than they already are.
The one that will repair this code must check all modules for enough space.

> 113469 - enhanced data pilot popup (Cancel button)

It is OK for Slovenian, but I can understand that many languages will
have problems.

I would call these new/updated dialogs "claustrophobic". :)

Re: [l10n-dev] problems in ooo330ln10 (was: 'Find' text in new Find toolbar)

2010-07-26 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
OK, André, here is another "problem", that I need confirmation of (as
well as from other l10n testers):

I downloaded and installed the l10n Slovenian build on Win XP. The
install wizard uninstalled the old (vanilla Slovenian 3.2.1) and
installed the pre330l10n test build. It starts OK, we all found
several bugs just a few hours, but OK.

Then it puzzled me as my icon for Writer in the quickstart section of
WinXP toolbar became an empty icon. I clicked on its properties and it
turned out that the uninstallation cleared the "C:\Program
Files\OpenOffice.org 3" (sub)folders except for some files and it did
not install the new version in the same folder.

OK, I said, it's a testing version, probably it is installed in
something like "OpenOffice 3 l10n" or something like that. I searched
the "Program Files" folder but could not find anything starting with
"OpenOffice.org" or "Oracle" or anything similar. Then I checked the
new shortcut on the desktop, the OOo icon. And then I got scared:

Target: C:\Program Files\program\soffice.exe
Start in: C:\Program Files\Basis\program

This is not normal, right? Does this happen only with this l10n build?
I used default installer values, did not change a thing. The release
notes are in the "C:\Program Files\readmes" etc.

What a mess in my Program Files folder. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
Martin

for the two "reenter password" strings on that same Security tab.

Could we ask developers to offer more space if several languages have
the same problem? Could that be done in time for 3.3?

Re: [l10n-dev] IMPORTANT: OpenOffice.org 3.3 - translation schedule

2010-06-21 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Rafaella,

I am singlehandedly working on the Slovenian translation and have my own
localization server. I have regularly updated my files so yesterday I had
just one fuzzy string left with the updated m83.

If I understand you correctly, even if I am not working via Pootle, I have
to send the sdf to you (or add it to an issue) before July 1, so that you
get a almost-fully-translated stuff for all languages into the tree and then
update my files after July 1? Or do I keep updating to new m84, m85 etc.
until OOO330m1 and finish my full translation and open an issue and attach
the sdf file till July 15?

The latter was the case until now.

Thanks, m.

Thanks, Rafaella,
and I found the link to more current obsolete pages for some languages in
the form of:
http://update.services.openoffice.org/ooo/index_xy.html?cid=920899
where xy is the language code, like de, it etc.

Hope this helps translators to be faster,

Thanks, Rafaella.
I know you or someone else pointed me to an old thank-you page in Slovenian,
so it would be nice to add possible links to obsolete thank-you pages in
existing languages, from where translators can update translation to the
current version?

[l10n-dev] Soylent Blue?

2010-06-08 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

I updated Slovenian po files to m81 that came out today and found five new
strings, obviously describing colors:
"Soylent Blue", "Soylent Yellow", "Soylent Orange", "Soylent Green" and
"Soylent Red".

They are located in sfx2-workben-custompanel.

Now, I expect the "Soylent Green" is a reference to a cult movie of the same
name, but how do you expect localizers to translate this? Are you sure all
the nations of OOo had this movie in distribution and the title was
translated literally? Or does it have some other meaning?

I mean, I have my own ideas and will make a translation that has no
connection to this movie and anything else, I will just make something up.
And have fun with it. But is this really the way to go?

Lp, m.

I guess its sdf is not ready or available yet.

Re: [l10n-dev] Re: [releases] New: OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 Release Candidate 1 (build OOO320m17) available

2010-05-11 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
I am having problem entering any Slovenian 321rc1 build into QATrack, for
example:
ftp://ftp.rz.tu-bs.de/pub/mirror/OpenOffice.org/extended/3.2.1rc1/OOo_3.2.1rc1_20100506_Win_x86_install-wJRE_sl.exe
or
http://ftp.rz.tu-bs.de/pub/mirror/OpenOffice.org/extended/3.2.1rc1/OOo_3.2.1rc1_20100506_Win_x86_install_sl.exe

The system analyses the file and reports the name is not properly formed.
Same is for OSX builds. Other builds names get analysed OK but they are not
added to the QATrack in the end.

I had no problems in this regard with the 3.2.0 builds. Has anything
changed?

Thanks, m.

Hi Joost,

I followed the official page (http://download.openoffice.org/all_rc.html)
from Marcus' announcement and downloaded the only available Slovenian
Windows build there, and that build, when unpacked, includes a folder "java"
that includes a 16Mb installation of Java, that is not in Slovenian.

This is the same install file that you just posted link for in your e-mail.
Why does it contain Java installation? Indeed, what am I missing?

2010-05-10 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Why does Slovenian 3.2.1 RC1 package include Java? Java is not localized
into Slovenian (Sun didn't localize it), so there is no space for it in a
Slovenian package, right?

Didn't we go through this for 3.2 already? The l10n community asked for
vanilla on this list, without-Java builds, as I remember. But now Java is
back in the default non-English packages?

[l10n-dev] Using m17

2010-05-08 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hello,

I am using Pavel's m17 (320 to be 3.2.1), the Slovenian version for OSX.

When I select the Tools - Language - Download additional dictionaries...
(don't know the actual English string for the command itself, so this is a
qucik translation from the Slovenian menu item) a page opens in the default
browser - and that page is in German! The Extensions site is localized in
Slovenian, so the Slovenian page for dictionaries should open; if a language
is not supported on the Extensions site UI, then English version of the page
should open. But for me - the German one opens.

Here is the link that opens:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/dictionary?cid=926385

Instead this should open:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/sl/dictionaries?cid=926385

Since there is no "de" parameter in the first link, does that mean that the
default language for Extensions pages is German?

In that case at least this should be the link:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/dictionaries?cid=926385

Anyone else can see this?

Lp, m.

Ok, it seems this is already localized into Slovenian, probably from the
main SDF file (I remember translating the strings), but as you say, it is
also obsolete regarding the Sun->Oracle transition.

There is a problem to report - it seems that the codepage of entered strings
is wrong - special characters do not render properly. Well, the problem
arises with one single character, a "č" (c with caron), which is displayed
as "?".

http://update.services.openoffice.org/ooo/204_sl.html

Although the html page is set to utf-8 the Slovenian strings in it are not
displayed properly. Our SDF uses utf-8 so I do not know how this happened -
when the strings from the SDF were merged into HTML? Do other Slavic
latin-based languages have similar problems?

When does this page display itself? I have never seen it yet.

Oh, Sophie, and I thought this is the l10n list and everything regarding
l10n happens here ;)

Thanks for the pointers, the template and extensions sites are already
localized into Slovenian, so is the QATrack, the surveys however aren't.
