In the meeting I made a mistake. The IRC channel for Pootle is of course
#pootle on irc.freenode.net. (#zaf that I mentioned is where we discuss
South African localisation issues - of course people are welcome there
as well :-)

I'm often in #pootle, as well as other people using our tools.

Dear All,

please find the log file at:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/mwiki/images/1/16/FreeNode--ooonlc_17_01_2008.odt

Some highlights we discussed during the meeting:

- 2.4 release translated files have all been received and imported.
Sanity check (approx. 4 hours testing including installation ) should be
performed on CWS l10n builds at:
http://ooo.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/cws/upload/localization/localisation27/

Sanity check is the minimum testing requirement that should be performed
to make sure there are no show stopper bugs in the builds/language packs.
A sanity check scenario can be found in TCM. A description is also
available at:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Sanity_Check_Of_L10n_Builds
One more thing for sanity check: doing a search in help makes the office
crash, so don't try it :) it's a known issue: 84151

- not top l10n issues habe been reported this week.

- regarding the restructuring of the l10n web pages, we will start
assigning owners by next IRC meeting. Volunteers to help restructuring
the pages are welcome :-)

- next meeting will take place on January 31st.

po2oo --filteraction can pick up those problems and discard them.
Unfortunately without a way to mark false positives this had to be
switched off by default. But by using this you can ensure that you
create a valid SDF.

pofilter can be used to pick up errors in XML. These are also available
in Pootle under the checks. I would suggest that all teams review:
xmltags and variables tests.

Wouldn't it be better to look at automating the checkin of PO files and
then the resultant SDF is built from them at build time? That way PO
files are checked in not SDF files.

> Do Community still need to run
> gsicheck?

You shouldn't as oo2po shouldn't create broken SDF files, there have bee
some issues on helpcontent2 in the past. Any issues are bugs and should
be reported.

That said an automated running of gsicheck would prevent silly issues.

> Is there a possibility to protect tags in Pootle?

By that do you mean XML tags in helpcontent2? They can't be protected,
but if they are altered they will show up as xmltags test failures. So
ideally you should review those failures.

Re: [l10n-dev] L10n Meeting on IRC - 25-10-2007

2007-10-25 Thread Rafaella Braconi

Dear All,

please find the IRC log at:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/IRC_Meetings#Agenda

Here some highlights:

- 8 languages have been uploaded so far. Performance of Pootle on
sunvirtuallab seems to be ok especially when using the search function.
- glossaries can be uploaded to Pootle. Aijin has volunteered to write
documentation on how to upload OOo Glossaries to Pootle and how to
update them.
- A Pootle project will be added for all those teams who would like to
localiza the Pootle interface.
- Terminology issues can be fixed directly in Pootle once the language
is available there. Rafaella to write the fist draft of bug handling
process in Pootle
- pt-BR Community would like to have their language in Pootle. Target
after 2.4 translation schedule
- can the process of downloading sdf translated file which needs to be
integrated into the CVS be automated? Do Community still need to run
gsicheck? Is there a possibility to protect tags in Pootle?

- Next meeting will be on November 8th at 11:00 am UTC

Kind Regards,
Rafaella

Pootle. However, they also need to set their option to choose their

So, please ask the translators to set their language - Spanish for

The problem is the activation, they come back telling me they don't
get the activation code.

My question is if I can manually activate them?
Should I route them all to you?

Ideally, if a new user registers, Pootle automatically sends a mail with
the activation code. However, there is currently out-going mail issue
and the mails are returned to me. Once I recognize the returned mail, I
forward the activation code manually to every user.
I saw several users registered during weekends and sent the activation
codes to them.

Unfortunately, activating account is also an admin's role not lang lead's.
Once users registered in Pootle, I can get a returned mail and forward
to the user. But it may take some delay as it should be done manually.
If you have several translators who not registered yet, you can send the
list to me.

Thanks,
Aijin

Translation schedule for 2.4:
there will be an interim l10n CWS build mid of November with the
latest translations delivered by October 29th. In case of
difficulties in meeting the October 29th deadline, please prioritize
the translation work as follows: GUI before Help translation and
please deliver only sdf files which contain translated strings (in
case, please remove untranslated strings from the sdf).

Handling linguistic fixes:
this is related to linguistic issues found in the English strings
(GUI) which make localization of the strings very difficult or
nearly impossible. Such issues, if found should be submitted
selecting the project component (NOT the category l10n) but entering
the keyword localization for better tracking. Rafaella to find out
how to add such keyword in issuetracker.

Was anything debated regarding SunGloss? Should we use SunGloss at all and
how can we best use it.
Do we need the whole volunteer team to sign up for SunGloss or can we just
get the file dump.
