This is prabably because the graphic is smaller than the disc.

Imagine a white circle around the graphic as broad as the distance between "cut
off" wing and border and you will get our "normal" gull orb.

Re: [marketing] flying discs quotation

2010-08-25 Thread Matthias Huetsch

Hi Florian, Kami,

As discussed, Team OpenOffice.or e.V. (me as their treasurer) could
directly pay the invoice, of course. It is just that we are not a
company, and don't have a "VAT number" (or anything similar). If that's
not hindering, here are the address details:

Team OpenOffice.org e.V.
Haferkamp 2
22081 Hamburg

Otherwise, you could send the invoice written out to you via snail mail
to that address, and I pay that invoice from here (but preferably in EUR).

Hope that helps,
Matthias

We will have blue flying discs, white about 13cm big gulls. As I
mentioned before I need the gfx that we put onto the discs.

One good piece of news we do not have to pay deposit.

So that means we only pay upon arrival of the discs?

Also is it possible to write out invoice for a company in the EU, and it

For this I need the name of company, and other financial data such as EU
VAT (or tax) number.

Thank you for your attention.

The budget authorizers for the marketing budget (Cor, Italo, Peter and
me) have agreed on reserving 1.000 € for the flying discs, so anything
up to that amount can be paid.

I'm Cc'ing Matthias Hütsch, the treasurer, who can provide details on
how to proceed. I guess it will be allright if you order them on your
name and then send in the receipt/invoice to him, so he can refund you -
but better wait for his reply, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks,

I have no stake in the actual design work. But yes, the prepared artwork

Let's go ahead.

- There is no official OOo logo font, unfortunately. We've been trying

The selection of a companion font is work in progress in the branding

So, either we only use the symbol, or we combine it with the official

blue disc with white gulls, but I'll leave the final choice to this list
and you. :-)

I've talked to the budget authorizers, and we agreed on reserving 1.000
€ out of the general marketing budget for the flying discs, just to be
on the safe side.

Regarding the money transfer, best is to talk to Matthias Hütsch (the
treasurer) directly. He knows best how to transfer the money.

Thanks for all your support and efforts, that's much appreciated!

  Hi!

So can you send me the high resolution logo?

I assume that Rosana will be able to send a high resolution file of the
final design as proposed in the wiki:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/File:OOorg_frisbee.png

If not I can with a similar design. Please tell me the necessary size of
the graphic and resolution (300dpi?) or the optimal size in pixel.

So have we decided, we need
* standard flying disc or
* foldable flying disc

Even if I prefer standard discs because I think they fly better and look
better on the photos we want to take as basis for our marketing
campaign, general tendency here was towards foldable discs (smaller in
size, easier to take with you).

We would select

* blue disc with white gulls or
* white disc with blue gulls

If we can define the color to be used (do you know if the printer needs
CMYK or Pantone colors?), I still prefer white discs with the original
OOo blue as colored area.

Blue discs with white graphics will most likely not reach our official
blue tone - probably they will not even come close to it.

Standard discs are less than 510 Euros, foldable discs are less than 470
Euros (quote 500).

This means that each foldable disc is about 8 cent less expensive (0,94€
vs. 1,02€). This has to be taken into account, when discussing the
different disc types.

I can order it on Monday (or today).

I hope we can decide until Sonday evening (by discussion or poll), then
the order should be placed.

Just for the statistics: I prefer the white standard flying discs with
OOo-colored graphic even if the foldable ones are cheaper.

Best regards

Bernhard

Thanks. 0,44 EUR apeice seems ok.

Please remember printing costs, postage and tax. As Rosana stated on
the wiki page, the costs are about 480€ per 500 discs, meaning 0,96
EUR per disc.

Do they fly well? The spec says 160
mm, but how much do they weigh? You need over 150 g to play disc golf
decently, if that is a consideration.

In this size they will probably not fly as good as larger and heavier
discs.

Perhaps we should think about ordering larger discs: For 220mm size
they charge only 2 cent more, but printing size increases from 100mm
to 140mm.

Please also keep in mind that every additional color adds to the final
price.

How would you recommend combining the new logo with two items of text?

I would think of the logo in the middle, "Tenth anniversary: 2000 -
2010" bent at the top and "http://www.openoffice.org"; bent at the base
of the disk.

I did a draft using the disc (changed color) from Rosana's link:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/File:Flying_disc_proposal.png

At the right and left we could add the gull orb, if this fits visually.
I think this kind of disc looks good, but in my opinion it doesn't work
as well as the gull symbol designs for the idea of making an
"anniversary photo album". If you read the proposal on the wiki it is
about passing it through and making photos of it, all over the world.
The symbol hast the advantage, that you can recognize it from far away,
it uses the round form and is more catchy. I think if we want to include
the logo and a sentence talking about the 10 years other giveaways could
do the job. The disc aren't the real marketing campaign, the real
marketing campaign are the photos made with them. That's why I think
that having a very clear symbol that fits perfectly in the form is the
best alternative.

I can't follow the link at the wiki page:
.../search?CreateDocument seems to be the container for a frame you
wanted to share with us.

At the website there are different discs. Which one do you think of?

500 discs delivered to Budapest cost 428,40 EUR

Do we need delivery to Budapest? As the website is located in Germany,
perhaps someone could take them with him/her?

Do you have any clue about the size of the package? I know of someone
driving with the car - should we ask him?
I talked with Florian, I think taking a car is complicated and I assume
500 discs are a lot, Florian told me about his experiences with dvds...
That's why I asked for the delivery.

As there isn't a lot of time (to have the discs delivered to Budapest on
the 30th of August we'd have to order them the 27th of July) it would be
good to make a decision as soon as possible.

I'd prefer being involved in design decisions, because this would have
impact on our branding - especially if images of the flying discs
should be shared around the world.

As you see you are being involved

But if time is too short, I can't help here.

Just a remark:

If I read the wiki page right, you want to take blue discs with white
logo and gull orb (plain or 3D?), so the color will not even be near
to our official blue tone.

On the other hand this would mean a second color (black and blue), so
costs will be much more (if I read the website right, this would mean
about 30 Cent per disc).

I don't know which way to prefer - but I'd rather stay with less discs
in our official colors than with more discs that doesn't help our
branding efforts (even if the fact of using other background colors
than the official ones is not yet explicitly mentioned in the branding
guidelines draft).
I think it's late for having the exact matching colors. I think that
even if the blue is not perfect the idea behind the disc is stronger and
it's a cool marketing giveaway. In my opinion is better this blue than
not having the discs. If someone can get another quotation for the right
color that would be delivered on time I will also prefer that.

Also 500 pieces aren't a lot. With more time if the idea is good we can
produce the ones with the perfect branding.

If anyone can get a better offer that can still be delivered on time,
that would be great.

It's in fact a matter of pricing and time, but perhaps there is a shop
in Hungary able to do such disks? Is anyone of the OOoCon team around
here?
If someone can help us that'd be great, but I think we can't wait too
long for taking the decision.

Rosana

Most of the sport disks seem to be at least 175g if they are small in
diameter.

That's a much larger area to work with.

That's a nice draft:

 http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/File:Flying_disc_proposal.png

The protocol prefix "http://"; is not needed on the disk. The host name
is sufficient, and with the fewer letters, slightly larger text is
possible.

I tried some combinations, but didn't find a good one.

As I don't want to reduce the size of the logo even more (restriction to
a 100mm diameter for the graphic), there is no place at the side of the
logo. Putting two orbs above and below the logo makes the space on the
disc look crowded - an impression I wanted to avoid.

And in silk screening shadows and gradients could become problematic,

This design would stay close to the minimalistic design used in the
start center and might even fit to the future branding design.
