How to enable UNO services through Script on other platforms except Windows?

2013-09-09 Thread Kejia Ye
Hi,

I'm trying to connect to AOO and calling some UNO services by a script. I
found a solution about
Automation_Bridgeand
it works for me, but it can only be used on Windows, due to the COM
implementation dependency.

Does anybody know is there any method that I can run a script to control
AOO remotely on other platforms, like Linux or Mac?

thanks!

So this is not an either/or question. We should both have an active
admin team as well as move toward allowing committers to maintain the
content of our websites.

If they are different issues, let's focus on getting the first one
(admin team) solved.

I believe that if we have active "web admins" (meaning people who have
extended privileges, but through the web interface only, like it already
happens for the Forums) the use case for the second one ("committer as
maintainers") is very limited. And I don't expect that with the future
(or current) setup you will have to wait one month to get Google
Analytics integrated if it is something that can be done in a few
minutes. I prefer that we leave the maintenance to admins who adhere to
a "code of conduct" like the one Jan drafted; if this becomes a
bottleneck, we can see what to do, but this will depend on the specific
application anyway.

I assume that NE plugin have to be adapted to reflect the latest changes
in AOO. One change is the reworked 3 layer that has impact on the
configuration of the plugin. And in your case the Addons.xcu file
generation have to be changed to reflect the changes in the config files.

Of course it would also interesting to know what type

Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2013-09-09 Thread Wolfgang Gerster
Dear Developers,

My computer tells me OO 4.0 is ready for downloading. Which I understand
as updating the latest 3.xx version I have on my computer. Your
homepage, however, directs me to two download options which I cannot
find any use for (others may, though). Maybe I am a bit too backward to
understand geek directions (even in my native German), and I am not into

So what is a person supposed to do?

I doubt you have pasted the URL correctly into your browser, as it must take
you to a completely different page than that you have illustrated.

A direct download for a German version of OpenOffice 4.0, running on Windows,
is at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/4.0.0/binaries/de/Apache_OpenOffice_4.0.0_Win_x86_install_de.exe/download

(all on one line, please)

contact_us.html: new clues

2013-09-09 Thread Rob Weir
When we get a misdirected email sent to the dev list with a subject
reporting a website error, it is coming from a user who is reading
http://www.openoffice.org/contact_us.html.

We've been doing some fine tuning of the language on that page to try
to make it more clear to the user that they should use the forum or
the user list for product questions. But it is not clear this is
working.

So I took a look at the data from the last 30 days, via Google
Analytics. Some interesting and unexpected findings.

First, what was the page the user was visiting before they went to the
contact page?

28% of the time they were on /support/index.html page
26% of the time they were on /index.html
14% of the time they were on /download/index.html
4% of the time they were on /product/index.html

So the highest ranking page is the support page, the one that should
have helped the user in the first place. The user would scroll
through that entire list, and then find the contact link at the bottom
of the page, read that and ignore all the support options described
before they send an email to the dev list.

We might want to revisit the support page to see if that can be clarified.

The intent is not merely for vm-team admins to talk to each other.
Remember we have other admins as well, including blog, bugzilla, even
mailing list moderators. So the world of admins is bigger than just
vm admins. Since I am involved as an admin in some of these areas,
this proposal in fact is coming from an admin.

Second, and as stated in the proposal, the point is also to have a
single point of contact for the public and for project members.

Re: How to enable UNO services through Script on other platforms except Windows?

I'm using LotusScript, a script language used in Lotus Notes, also

Is there some
similar samples or experience to do things like that? Maybe something like

Root Cause:
In 121126, although in description it only mentioned format code issue,
actually the fix is not only for format code but also for output string
for
logic formula cell. The second one introduced this issue.
I think the change for output string change for logic formulas is
reasonable because before 12666

12666 ?

, from 12666's sample file, a cell with

formula "=2>1" will return 1.0.It is very strange. It should return
"TRUE"

like that in MS Excel.

In all my OOo versions (from 1.1.5 over 2.4.3 to 3.41 and AOO4.0) =2>1
returns TRUE. In which version do you see result 1.0 ?

So my fix will based on 12666. The root cause is for logic formula cells,

fix code of 12666 forcibly set output string to true or false. But many
AOO
users had manner already that set number format to logic formula cells.
That's different with Excel. In Excel, no matter what number format you
set
to logic formula cells, the output strings are always true and false.
In the sample of this issue, users set number format to currency, because
of the forcibly setting, the string changed.

Solution
My solution is to add checking for logic formula cells, if their output
number formats are certain category like number, currency, date, time,
etc,
we will not change the output string. but if no certain format categories
were applied, for logic formula cells, will change output string to true
and false.

I have applied your patch and build the source. The resulting AOO still
shows the error, that FALSE and TRUE cannot be formatted to currency. The
formatting to other number formats works. The error happens with IF with 1
or 2 parameters and with simple comparisons as well.

But it was not a clean build. I will try it with a clean build, but that
needs half a day on my PC.

Your patch comes with DOS line ends to me. That might be a problem with my
browser. But it would be nice, if you verify, that your patch has UNIX line
ends.

Kind regards
Regina

For history's sake, we went through this on OOo for…. 10 years. Nothing worked,
which is to say, everything worked, but only for a short time, as new
populations of those-who-will-not read entered the picture. It's a never ending

In addition to the scripting languages Jürgen pointed out you may also use the
scripting languages
that come also with AOO like JavaScript and BeanShell.

If you are in the "Lotus corner" you might be acquainted with the Rexx (IBM's
original SAA scripting
language) and/or the opensource Open Object Rexx (http://www.ooRexx.org)
scripting language. The
Windows implementation of ooRexx supports COM/OLE/ActiveX and allows you to
access e.g. Lotus Notes
via the COM interfaces (transcribing the Lotus script code).

You can get at a cross-platform solution to interface with Lotus Notes and with
AOO from ooRexx by
adding the BSF4ooRexx package (https://sourceforge.net/projects/bsf4oorexx/),
which allows one to
exploit any Java bridges (to Notes or to AOO) with the syntax and ease of the
ooRexx scripting
languages. The camouflaging support of BSF4ooRexx turns Java conceptually into
the interpreted,
dynamically typed and case-independent ooRexx

In addition to the scripting languages Jürgen pointed out you may also use the
scripting languages
that come also with AOO like JavaScript and BeanShell.

If you are in the "Lotus corner" you might be acquainted with the Rexx (IBM's
original SAA scripting
language) and/or the opensource Open Object Rexx (http://www.ooRexx.org)
scripting language. The
Windows implementation of ooRexx supports COM/OLE/ActiveX and allows you to
access e.g. Lotus Notes
via the COM interfaces (transcribing the Lotus script code).

You can get at a cross-platform solution to interface with Lotus Notes and with
AOO from ooRexx by
adding the BSF4ooRexx package (https://sourceforge.net/projects/bsf4oorexx/),
which allows one to
exploit any Java bridges (to Notes or to AOO) with the syntax and ease of the
ooRexx scripting
languages. The camouflaging support of BSF4ooRexx turns Java conceptually into
the interpreted,
dynamically typed and case-independent ooRexx

I've noticed that a lot of pages (including support/index.html) have a
TOC at the start.
However the TOC is usually just a terse list of links, for example:

Product documentation
Community support
Professional services
Books about OpenOffice.
Other Online resources

This takes up quite a lot of vertical space, without being
particularly informative.
And the Prod doc link actually leads to a section called "OpenOffice
Documentation".
[The anchor used here is #rtfm which is a bit of an insult, given that
the user must already be RTFM to be looking at the page!]

At the very least it might help to have some descriptive text after
each link, for example

Product documentation - FAQs, User Guides, How-To's, Tutorials,
Installation, etc.
Community support - etc.
Professional services - etc
Books about OpenOffice - On our Books page you will find a listing of
the many books written about OpenOffice topics, for general and
specialized use.
Other Online resources - etc

In the case of Professional Services and Books, there is almost no
useful content on the page, so the links might as well go direct to
the relevant pages.

Something else that might help is an introduction which provides an
overview of the various types of [self-]help available. Even with
additional descriptions the list of links is not particularly
welcoming.

I think one big issue is that specific product documentation is
actually quite difficult to find from the support page.
The Product Doc link takes one to the Wiki documentation project,
where the main focus is the documentation project, not the generated
documentation.
If I have a problem with Calc 4.0.0 for example, how do I use the
Support page to find the docs/faqs/tutorials for it?
If it were made easier to find documentation on specific products, it
might reduce FAQs being posted on the mailing lists.
Maybe consider a page for each product with links to the different
documentation types.

Another possibilility that might be worth considering is to have a
short intro on the contact page, mentioning the various forms of
self-help and documentation available from the support page.

[BTW, the support index page still has a reference to OpenOffice.org]

Fw: Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2013-09-09 Thread Mel Goddard
Before I do download it, perhaps you can tell me WHY I would need
"OpenOffice" to open my files for me.
That's akin to me telling you that you cannot drive your car unless I turn
the key to start it for you.
I have now wasted almost a full day to try to solve a problem that prevents
me from doing a 30 second job.

Max;

The problem is, that I'm trying to open an existing document to add to it.
Your program is preventing me from doing it.
I've never had any problem before, until a couple of days ago.
So since I've never even 'heard' of you before; I did uninstall it, and
then 'somebody' else is trying to get in here.
All I want to do is to access an existing document! That's all.

My computer 'guru' tells me that you're legit, so I'm going to reinstall
your program and see: "What the Hell".

I'll let you know of the follow up.

It is possible that you have inadvertently downloaded a "rogue" print of
OpenOffice, which prints often come with attached malware.

Do not download from any site but www.openoffice.org/download (automatic

Howdy,

No the problem was I forgot my password and reset it, then I couldn't get
past the cpatcha - today, I'm in...so it likely was fat fingers on my part.

As for where to put this stuff. I don't know, it doesn't do much good if
folks A) don't know it exists and B) don't actually hand them out.

I was thinking that as an example the university student flyer might be
worth a post to the social media sites something along the lines of:
Are you a university student? Do you use AOO? Would like to promote it? It
is as easy as taking this <> pdf file, printing a few copies and
distributing them on your campus, (school library, student union, etc).

That would be good for a one time push, then it's just a matter of having
this stuff reasonably easy to find for folks coming along later - but then
there lay the trick ;)

FYI: OpenOffice for Android

2013-09-09 Thread Rory O'Farrell

A version of what is claimed to be OpenOffice for Android is now available at
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andropenoffice

I've downloaded this and installed it on a 7" Nexus 7 tablet. I think a 7"
tablet may be too small for serious work with it; when I go away to
London/Wales in two weeks time I'll still be bringing a small laptop.

However, I thought you'd all like to know that something was available.

Re: AOO Flyer_SME (was : Yet another flyer)

2013-09-09 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy all,

Well, a little more work and some feedback led to this - which I now really
need feedback from you guys on.

A couple of small changes - I noted the discussion on the mailing list
regarding the users posting to the dev mailing list, so I updated the
paragraph on the back cover to remove the reference to the dev list (I have
not updated the UnivStudent flyer to reflect this yet, but will)

Some small typographic changes on the front cover and rear cover, dropped
the wire frame from the front page (inside flap), left it on the second
page - though I have two votes to dump it from there also.

Anyway - the real focus, if I may draw you there, is again the why AOO
column. The bullet items are the points that I would like to make, but they
could I'm sure be made better.

The lower section AOO is ODF compliant and AOO is a community I'm not
really comfortable with. I lifted some of the text from that 2.0 flyer, the
sentence with company names and I suppose for instance PeopleSoft no longer
gets a break out, it's just Oracle now, right.. anyhow you input is very.

So - I guess I'll just use google still:

Herbert,

Thanks for the information. I attached the new mathconf.h file with your patch.
I then did a clean build and it compiles without error.I am not sure about
what you'd like me to provide when you say , " Of course it would also
interesting to know what type ::std::numeric_limits::digits on
that platform." Could you provide more details? Thanks.

Also,

I've found a couple other things that you may be interested in.

1. The generated bootstrap script will not execute after configure because of
like 64. I've had to change it like this:

 - dmake_full_package_name=$(find $TARFILE_LOCATION -type f
-name "*-$dmake_package_name")

 + dmake_full_package_name=`find $TARFILE_LOCATION -type f
-name "*-$dmake_package_name"`

2. I keep receiving the following each time I do a clean build:

=
Building module basebmp

Entering /opt/aoo-4.0.0/main/basebmp/source

Compiling: basebmp/source/bitmapdevice.cxx
"/opt/aoo-4.0.0/main/solver/400/unxsoli4.pro/inc/vigra/mathutil.hxx", line 801:

Reason(s):

ERROR: error 65280 occurred while making /opt/aoo-4.0.0/main/basebmp/source

When you have fixed the errors in that module you can resume the build by
running:

build --all:basebmp

I can resolve this by changing
/opt/aoo-4.0.0/main/solver/400/unxsoli4.pro/inc/vigra/mathutil.hxx to the
following on line 801:

 - using VIGRA_CSTD::erf;

This file is generated by the build. As of now, I have not determined what is
generating it.

I'm not sure whether you saw my mail from September 2nd

(http://markmail.org/message/bt7bazzvb6zionee):

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/STDCXX-937 might have to do with this. It
mentions a compiler bug 6703971 but that doesn't seem to be available any more.
I suggest to update the compiler to its latest patch level.

Of course it would also interesting to know what type
::std::numeric_limits::digits on that platform. The error
message looks as if this was not an integer but a class. The C++ spec requires
that the type should be an int. Please check the include file.

I run it on my ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700). It is also the only

This Android app was already discussed on this list, months ago.

Right. But here is a common scenario. You need to reinstall
 Windows
on a machine. Say it is XP or Vista. Both are supported today, but
both have older browsers by default. Of course, the first thing you

And the post is nice too! I would just add something about how people

Since testcases must be attached anyway, one way to get them could be to

The idea of having the product images in /${lang}/product is to
provide a localized version of the application screen-shots, something
logical and understandable if you are translating the site (note that
the image for the icons are not supposed to be localized, so they are
taken from /product).

The original application screen-shots should be first updated (they
are too old), and provide the documents for the localized version.

Line 330, Char 1, Code 0, Expected identifier, string or number

This is an odd place for an error, since that appears to be in the

Yes, if you search in the "index.html" which indeed doesn't make
sense.

When looking into "download.js" then you are in the middle of the
"getFilesize()" function. But I've no idea what the problematic point
could
be there.

Hm, and what about "languages.js"? It has also a semicolon at the end
but
the file has only 108 lines. In the "index.html" it will be imported
before
the "release_matrix.js" (I don't know if this really the case) but
there
is
no hint for error.

Anyway, let's try. In the test area:

http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/download/test/index.html
http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/download/test/other.html

I've committed the deletion of the characters in both files. I think we

I don't know if that restriction is per client IP address or per host,

but we're blocked either way, because of robots.txt on staging:

OK yes, the staging area.

But if it is OK to publish those changes we should be able to run

Hm, I decided to publish the changes already yesterday. To bad that I've

Please try again with the real webpages.

Same errors.

I think it is the trailing comma on the last entry in the array. I
changed in it download/test/release_matrix.js and will test it again
tomorrow.

Ah, good catch. I've published the website, so you can test with the real

I cross my fingers.

The latest versions works OK on the older I.E.'s on browsershots.org.

These are great guidelines! We should definitely integrate them into the
Decision Making page somehow. Number 7 might need more elaboration.

"Developing good judgement", like so many things in life, is learned by
trial and error. It would be great if we could at least better define what
we think "good judgement" is.

That is the rub, isn't it?

No one will find them on the mailing list. On the wiki as well it
will be hard to find. We need something that connects this with a
"call to action".

The key is to extend your targeted persona-based approach (which is a
very smart approach) with a web page (or a wiki page) that is equally
targeted and rich in relevant keywords, so it is findable in
Google/Bing for someone looking for that kind of material. The
brochure could then be linked to from that page.

We would then have a "call to action" in the form of a blog post, that
we could further publicize via Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I tried the sample doc with the latest linux-32 nightly build from
buildbot, and made some comments on 122862. Then, I noticed this seemed to
only be Windows 7.

Anyway, all good with Linux-32 but maybe this is not related to the
issue. :/

Another one for your collection, but in French. Its goal is to promote the
use of portable applications by Windows users. This is the basis of a
presentation (clearly announced as not official) of the AOO and Educoo

I wondered if that might be the case. But the screen shots that are
given as so small that you can't read the text at all. It could be
Chinese as far as I can tell.

And the fact is that no one has updated these images for AOO 3.4.0,
3.4.1 or 4.0.0, even where the website was translated, such as the /es
site.

If we had the original documents, then that could work well. These
documents could then be translated and new screenshots taken.

What version of AOO are you building? AOO trunk? AOO400 or AOO401? If you're
not building AOO trunk I suggest to apply my change from revision
1515285 to it and recompile configmgr. If it helps then the change is a
candidate to be merged into the release branch as well.

AS you mentioned about the source, we will get stuck in middle of
something that belongs to the "trademark".

>From this version, the name of the product has been changed, he still

But this guy is good, he "ported" a whole project of AOO to Android
devices. This is the feature of the future and I think some guys at
the development team should make contact with him about this.

About the source stuff, first of all, we should consider this guy has
made huge contribution to the vision for AOO. I hope that any conflict
can be solved about the "trademark" stuff, but AOO on Android is an

Hi Mel,

that sounds like you accidentially assigned OpenOffice to open all word
dokuments for you when you installed it. To return to normal,
right-click on a word file in the explorer, then chose "open with" and
then "Chose default program" You'll get a list of programs to chose from
and Word should be among them. You should be back to normal then.

Max;

The problem is, that I'm trying to open an existing document to add to
it.

4.0.1_release_blocker requested: [Bug 123214] Updated bundled spellchecker for gd

2013-09-09 Thread bugzilla
Andrea Pescetti has asked for 4.0.1_release_blocker:
Bug 123214: Updated bundled spellchecker for gd
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123214

--- Additional Comments from Andrea Pescetti
The Gaelic (gd) dictionary has already been updated on trunk and should be
updated in AOO401 too.

4.0.1_release_blocker requested: [Bug 123144] Print - Mail merge: Mail merge database dialog will not appear for document saved from AOO 4.0.0

2013-09-09 Thread bugzilla
Andrea Pescetti has asked for 4.0.1_release_blocker:
Bug 123144: Print - Mail merge: Mail merge database dialog will not appear for
document saved from AOO 4.0.0
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123144

--- Additional Comments from Andrea Pescetti
Print merge and mail merge will lose the link to their data sources when
saving/opening a file, thus:

1) Breaking the most common usage pattern for Print/Mail merge (user must go
and link the the data source every time he reopens the file)

2) Breaking existing and working files (a file working in 3.4.1, if saved with
4.0.0, will stop working)

The issue is not fixed on trunk yet, but a detailed analysis by arielch, orw
and vitriol allowed to identify this as a specific problem with the order the
information is stored in the ODF file.

I've already seen multiple independent reports of the bug on mailing
lists/forums.

4.0.1_release_blocker requested: [Bug 123101] French (fr) translation update for OpenOffice 4.0.1

2013-09-09 Thread bugzilla

Bug 123101: French (fr) translation update for OpenOffice 4.0.1
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123101

--- Additional Comments from Andrea Pescetti
The "Release Blocker" flag isn't set for French yet, but French was updated in
Pootle:
https://translate.apache.org/fr/
(UI unchanged; help updated) and the fix should be ported to OpenOffice 4.0.1.

Re: [request for review] - Solution for regressions 122862, 122870, 122955, 123161 and 123163

Hi,

I had worked on a fix to solve some regressions [1][2][3][4][5] introduced
into Calc in AOO 4.0.0 by changes for issue 12666 [6].
The patch is attached to issue 122862 [1] and I have committed it on
trunk, rev. 1520602

Probably, the one or the other can try one of the next build bot
installation sets from trunk and check the fixed issues and issue 12666.

I would like to have the regressions solved for AOO 4.0.1.
If my fix works fine (may be with the one or the other smaller
correction), we can go for it.
Otherwise, I will revert the changes made for issue 12666 for AOO 4.0.1 to
get the regressions fixed for AOO 4.0.1
Issue 12666 will then be solved for AOO 4.1

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Oliver.

I tried the sample doc with the latest linux-32 nightly build from
buildbot, and made some comments on 122862. Then, I noticed this seemed to
only be Windows 7.

Anyway, all good with Linux-32 but maybe this is not related to the
issue. :/

Thanks for the review.
The defect is independent of the operating system - I just forgot to
adjust the issue data.

Best regards, Oliver.

Please start new discussions (i.e., don't reply to another message but
create a new one) or your messages will be buried in irrelevant threads
and harder to notice. And please do not post your request to 450 people
four times in four minutes with four wrong subjects! In other mailing
lists, people get banned for far less than this.

Fedora 19 build instructions are at
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide_AOO
and
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Fedora_Build_Instructions#Fedora_19

Post here if you need more information. Note that Alexandro had already
sent you the first link, so rather than asking something generic I
expect you to tell us where you are stuck and we'll help you out.

This is something that I haven't fully understood from your first post.
Could you elaborate on it? OpenOffice already has automatic completion
of words. Is this something similar to it?

Regards,
  Andrea.
