If there is some problem you can't do this, please let us know. For re-confirming issues such as 107063 we have the field latest confirmation on. The version field itself should record when a bug first appeared. Also we there is no release of AOO 4.0.1 yet, there are only snapshots on the way to 4.0.1 that use 4.0.1 in various strings for technical reasons. So recording a bug against a pre-release should only be against e.g. AOO401-dev but not against the target version. How to enable UNO services through Script on other platforms except Windows?
Hi, I'm trying to connect to AOO and calling some UNO services by a script. I found a solution about Automation_Bridgehttp://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/ProUNO/Bridge/Automation_Bridgeand it works for me, but it can only be used on Windows, due to the COM implementation dependency. Does anybody know is there any method that I can run a script to control AOO remotely on other platforms, like Linux or Mac? thanks! Ke Jia

If they are different issues, let's focus on getting the first one (admin team) solved. I believe that if we have active web admins (meaning people who have extended privileges, but through the web interface only, like it already happens for the Forums) the use case for the second one (committer as maintainers) is very limited. And I don't expect that with the future (or current) setup you will have to wait one month to get Google Analytics integrated if it is something that can be done in a few minutes. I prefer that we leave the maintenance to admins who adhere to a code of conduct like the one Jan drafted; if this becomes a bottleneck, we can see what to do, but this will depend on the specific application anyway. Root Cause: In 121126, although in description it only mentioned format code issue, actually the fix is not only for format code but also for output string for logic formula cell. The second one introduced this issue. I think the change for output string change for logic formulas is reasonable because before 12666 12666 ? , from 12666's sample file, a cell with formula =21 will return 1.0.It is very strange. It should return TRUE like that in MS Excel. In all my OOo versions (from 1.1.5 over 2.4.3 to 3.41 and AOO4.0) =21 returns TRUE. In which version do you see result 1.0 ? So my fix will based on 12666. The root cause is for logic formula cells, fix code of 12666 forcibly set output string to true or false. But many AOO users had manner already that set number format to logic formula cells. That's different with Excel. In Excel, no matter what number format you set to logic formula cells, the output strings are always true and false. In the sample of this issue, users set number format to currency, because of the forcibly setting, the string changed. Solution My solution is to add checking for logic formula cells, if their output number formats are certain category like number, currency, date, time, etc, we will not change the output string. but if no certain format categories were applied, for logic formula cells, will change output string to true and false. I have applied your patch and build the source. The resulting AOO still shows the error, that FALSE and TRUE cannot be formatted to currency. The formatting to other number formats works. The error happens with IF with 1 or 2 parameters and with simple comparisons as well. But it was not a clean build. I will try it with a clean build, but that needs half a day on my PC. Your patch comes with DOS line ends to me. That might be a problem with my browser. But it would be nice, if you verify, that your patch has UNIX line ends. On 2013-09-09, at 08:12 , Rob Weir robw...@apache.org wrote: When we get a misdirected email sent to the dev list with a subject reporting a website error, it is coming from a user who is reading http://www.openoffice.org/contact_us.html. We've been doing some fine tuning of the language on that page to try to make it more clear to the user that they should use the forum or the user list for product questions. But it is not clear this is working. For history's sake, we went through this on OOo for…. 10 years. Nothing worked, which is to say, everything worked, but only for a short time, as new populations of those-who-will-not read entered the picture. It's a never ending negotiation. So I took a look at the data from the last 30 days, via Google Analytics. Some interesting and unexpected findings. First, what was the page the user was visiting before they went to the contact page? 28% of the time they were on /support/index.html page 26% of the time they were on /index.html 14% of the time they were on /download/index.html 4% of the time they were on /product/index.html So the highest ranking page is the support page, the one that should have helped the user in the first place. The user would scroll through that entire list, and then find the contact link at the bottom of the page, read that and ignore all the support options described before they send an email to the dev list. We might want to revisit the support page to see if that can be clarified. -Rob My advice: This is nice, looks great, but be prepared to revisit the page and renew the language. The Windows implementation of ooRexx supports COM/OLE/ActiveX and allows you to access e.g. Lotus Notes via the COM interfaces (transcribing the Lotus script code). Also we there is no release of AOO 4.0.1 yet, there are only snapshots on the way to 4.0.1 that use 4.0.1 in various strings for technical reasons. Howdy all, Well, a little more work and some feedback led to this - which I now really need feedback from you guys on. A couple of small changes - I noted the discussion on the mailing list regarding the users posting to the dev mailing list, so I updated the paragraph on the back cover to remove the reference to the dev list (I have not updated the UnivStudent flyer to reflect this yet, but will) Some small typographic changes on the front cover and rear cover, dropped the wire frame from the front page (inside flap), left it on the second page - though I have two votes to dump it from there also. Anyway - the real focus, if I may draw you there, is again the why AOO column. The bullet items are the points that I would like to make, but they could I'm sure be made better. The lower section AOO is ODF compliant and AOO is a community I'm not really comfortable with. Why do we have to support stone-old browsers? Because they are available on a browser testing website? Come on. ;-) I'm concerned with the error, since it it impacts the more modern IE 6 and 7. Looking at visits to our website over the past month I see this many users: IE 10 -- 857,499 IE 9 -- 250,591 IE 8 -- 420,215 IE 7 -- 69,914 IE 6 -- 27,172 IE 5.5 -- 69 So we're still getting nearly 100K visits/month from these older IE versions. The 69 are not really impressive. But 27,000+ for MSIE 6 is surprising. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_5 It's old, MS is no longer supporting it, so IMHO it's done. Nearly the same for 6.0. Right. But here is a common scenario. You need to reinstall Windows on a machine. Say it is XP or Vista. Both are supported today, but both have older browsers by default. Of course, the first thing you do on a new machine is run the Windows Updates. But in parallel with that you are downloading other software you need, Acrobat Reader, anti virus, 7-Zip, Notepad++, etc., and Apache OpenOffice. So you might end up with IE 8 in the end, after all the patches are applied. But you start your work with an earlier version, I would expect that these people first get the basics up-to-date, then other applications. The IE versions all give the same script error: However, if all browsers show the same error then a fix could get back all 3 into life at the same time. That makes sense. Yes, let's concentrate on the error. Line 330, Char 1, Code 0, Expected identifier, string or number This is an odd place for an error, since that appears to be in the middle of the commented out block for beta releases. Any ideas? Yes, if you search in the index.html which indeed doesn't make sense. When looking into download.js then you are in the middle of the getFilesize() function. But I've no idea what the problematic point could be there. I wonder if it could be http://www.openoffice.org/download/release_matrix.js? Could it be a coincidence that that file is exactly 329 lines long and the error is claimed to be in line 330? Maybe that unnecessary comma at the end of line 328 is the issue? Hm, and what about languages.js? It has also a semicolon at the end but the file has only 108 lines. In the index.html it will be imported before the release_matrix.js (I don't know if this really the case) but there is no hint for error. Anyway, let's try. In the test area: http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/download/test/index.html http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/download/test/other.html I've committed the deletion of the characters in both files. I think we need to wait another 24h until we are allowed to use Browsershots.org again, right? - At least this is my experience. In my opinion, this is very good how to guide, but somewhat limited as a when to guide. I drafted the orientation pages based on my understanding. I didn't get many comments at the time, so I'm sure there is room for improvement. Most of the source code changes done currently are preceded by a BZ issue. This is wonderfully simple and anyone on the commits list can follow what and why something has been done. In other cases, for much larger changes, discussions have been initiated. So, we would NOT see an action such as deleting an entire module undertaken without discussion. Decision making for these types of change follow a a well-known and followed process. Aside from code changes, there are changes to other areas of the project -- web sites, wiki, forums -- whose changes are not typically noted in BZ. Sometimes there are proposals and discussions, sometimes not. These are the kinds of changes that may need additional clarification with regard to decision making. In summary, what kinds of change for non-source code need a [PROPOSAL]/discussion before change? For source changes and non-source changes the idea is essentially the same. It is a judgement call more than a hard rule. That's why we should try to vote in committers who have demonstrated good judgement as well as technical skills. We operate in Commit-Then-Review mode most of the time, except when close to a Release Candidate. We try to avoid unnecessary discussion. A timid committer who needs to review every minor change with is an annoyance to most of the 453 subscribers of the dev list. So we want to encourage JFDI where appropriate. But it is still a judgement call. But in general, I think (my personal view) a committer should put out a proposal in situations such as: 1) They are unsure of the technical merits of what they want to do. They want an extra pair of eyes to review the proposal point out weaknesses, alternatives, etc. 2) It is a job for more than one person or requires coordination across several subgroups within the project. By putting out a formal proposal you can find additional volunteers and move forward in a coordinated way. 3) A change to one of our websites that impacts terms and conditions, license, copyright, branding, etc. So not a technical change, but a substantive change to content in these areas. These require PMC review. 4) A technical change that breaks backwards compatibility of the product. 5) Changes that break things. Sometimes this is unavoidable. But it should be proposed and coordinated like #2 above. 6) Changes that cannot easily be reversed. Code changes and most website changes are in SVN and can be reverted. But some changes, like administrative bulk actions in BZ, cannot be easily undone. 7) Public statements in behalf of the project, e.g., some blog posts and announcements, press releases, etc. Those are examples, but the list is by no means complete. And for almost any of these there may be cases where CTR or even JFDI is appropriate. I'd take them more as things to think about when developing good judgement. Regards, -Rob These are great guidelines! We should definitely integrate them into the Decision Making page somehow. Number 7 might need more elaboration. Developing good judgement, like so many things in life, is learned by trial and error. It would be great if we could at least better define what we think good judgement is. - MzK Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. No one will find them on the mailing list. On the wiki as well it will be hard to find. We need something that connects this with a call to action. I was thinking that as an example the university student flyer might be worth a post to the social media sites something along the lines of: Are you a university student? Do you use AOO? Would like to promote it? It is as easy as taking this pdf file, printing a few copies and distributing them on your campus, (school library, student union, etc). That would be good for a one time push, then it's just a matter of having this stuff reasonably easy to find for folks coming along later - but then there lay the trick ;) The key is to extend your targeted persona-based approach (which is a very smart approach) with a web page (or a wiki page) that is equally targeted and rich in relevant keywords, so it is findable in Google/Bing for someone looking for that kind of material. The brochure could then be linked to from that page. We would then have a call to action in the form of a blog post, that we could further publicize via Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Lather. Rinse. AS you mentioned about the source, we will get stuck in middle of something that belongs to the trademark. From this version, the name of the product has been changed, he still holds the name of AOO in the icon but not the name of the product. But this guy is good, he ported a whole project of AOO to Android devices. This is the feature of the future and I think some guys at the development team should make contact with him about this. About the source stuff, first of all, we should consider this guy has made huge contribution to the vision for AOO. Hi Mel, that sounds like you accidentially assigned OpenOffice to open all word dokuments for you when you installed it. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
