Re: [slim] SlimServer v6.5.1 has broken Unicode support

2007-03-26 Thread ymilner

It is kind of strange to me, that after so many people have shown
interest in this problem, there is still my single vote on the bug
report! I was asked to open the bug request, I did it, and now suddenly
nobody cares! I'm not talking about adding details to the case, but at
least a vote...

(OK, I'm not that p..ed out really, but do express you interest in this
problem fixing by adding your votes :) )

And, I have found out that in my case restarting the server solves the
problem, for a while. Is it so with everybody else?

 you have the tablets and laptops. Somewhere in between, almost as much

 There is a .NET SlimServer viewer, highly developed and quite advanced,

Thanks for the Moose link. I played with it a bit and so far am pleased

[slim] Slimserv does not find iTunes Japanese Music (double byte characters)

Server IP address: 192.168.1.101

MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt
PROBLEM: none of my music with double byte character artists names
(Japanese names/Chinese Names) are showing up. I know SS does support
double byte b/c I have seen some of this music before iTunes with no
problem. This music was not purchased from iTUnes. It is mp3 format,
which I used iTunes to convert from WMA format. Don't know if it
matters, but I renamed the actual folders in Windows My Computer on all
this music from Japanese script to the English equivalents. I did not
touch any of the file names of the actual music however.
Have followed all SS instructions. Did not point to any iTunes library
xml file or music library as SS and iTUNEs resides on same computer.
Music on D:/ and slimserv on E:/. Both HDrives on same computer.

[slim] Wireless Bridge and home working

2007-03-26 Thread DAL

Hi All,

Just bought a SB3 and have to say I am very impressed !

A quick question re the Wireless Bridge feature. If I buy another
wireless SB3 for a remote room could I plug my laptop via Ethernet in
to the SB3 and use it to access the Internet for home working via my
wireless ADSL Router?

I know the manual says you can connect home gaming but I would like to
VPN to my work email using this feature.

Thanks in advance

[slim] output noise

2007-03-26 Thread swet

apologies if this has been posted before, I couldn't find any
reference.

I've been running SB3 connected to my WAD 6550 valve amp for 9 months
and its been fine. I've just replaced the 6550 with a Pass Labs F2 and
I get big hum/buzz. I checked the amp and all was ok so I checked the
phono out on the SB and I get 17mv on both channels.

Now the F2 is way more sensistive than the 6550 so I'm assuming the
17mv has always been there but I've never noticed it.

Can anybody please tell me if this is a fault on the SB or the product
of the lousy power supply??

Regards

Ed

Your another SB is confusing me... this is already possible with the
first SB?!?

The idea of the bridging feature is to allow a non-wireless device connect
to a wireless network. Whether this is a gaming console or your business
laptop doesn't matter. (some have even been bridging their slimserver
machine through a SB to the rest of the network - which isn't good for
your performance, but does work).

Re: [slim] SlimServer running on a Playstation 3!

2007-03-26 Thread agentsmith

I just bought a PS3 and is still at awe over its quality playing Casino
Royale HD Blu Ray movie on my TV. being able to play 1080p HD games is
also a bonus.

So far, the machine has been excellent. By the way, the machine is
almost noiseless since the fan does not come on unless it reaches high
temperature. I have only been able to activate the fan after
forgetting to turn it off one night with it inside a closed cabinet.

To me, the PS3 is the bargain of the century given that it is a:

- Half price Blu Ray machine
- SOTA HD game machine
- Media center, play photos, videos and music off USB sticks and HDDs
- Fully storage expandable machine (Can accept any size internal hard
drive)

And the real bonus is is that it is fully supports Linux.

To me, Slimserver on the PS3 would be a no brainer. Too bad I am a
Linux dummy.  Anyone?

There is no wiki - just anecdotal postings.

My preferred way to upgrade is as follows:

1. Note installed plugins and settings.
2. Uninstall Slimserver
3. Delete the Slimserver directory
4. Run the new Slimseverer installation.
5. Scan and build new database.
6. Re-install plugins and re-enter settings.

There are some items which can be saved as external files such as
playlist and radio station lists. These can be reloaded when new
version is up and running.

Furthermore I think you should install a nightly 6.5.2 as there were
some memory leak issues with SlimTray in 6.5.1.

The PepperPad3 is linux-based, so Moose is a no-go there. The

give SlimFX, the flash-based skin a shot (you'll need to search the
forums to find links for that).

Second, the Nokia N800 can go online by connecting to a cell phone via
bluetooth, so there is no need for the USB port you mentioned.

Also, search the forum for Tyler Durden's solution of using a Fujitsu
Stylistic tablet as a touchscreen UI. Pretty cool stuff, and seems to
fit exactly what you're hoping for.

[slim] Standard Skin broken?!

2007-03-26 Thread Micha123

Something strange happened to me just now.. doesn't really speak for the
stability of the server.

I startet playing an Internet Radio station (via entering an URL
through the web interface). Then I saved it as a favorite on the
squeezebox. Since it didnt set the title correctly, but instead used
the ugly url (sometimes it does use the nice title as the title,
sometimes the (ugly) url, but thats another issue which should really
be fixed - why cant favorites be renamed through the web interface?
editing a file for this is ugly), I deleted the favorite again through
the web interface.

And what happened? All of a sudden the standard skin was broken. I only
get code instead of an HTML-page, e.g.

body, table, input, select, textarea, select, p, li {
color: #333;
font-size: 10px;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}

body {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}

/* Hack for IE to prevent horizontal scrollbars with frames */
* html {
overflow-y: scroll;
}

.exlisting, p, ol, ul, dl, dd, td, .stdclick, .stdedit, .exboldlisting,
th, h5 {
color: #666;
}

.faq p, h5 {
font-size: 11px;
}

.viewSelect
{
float: right;
padding-right: 8px;
padding-top: 6px;
}

etc.

Multiple Reloads didnt help - the skin is broken. Now how in the world
can this happen? For me thats a major bug.

But what interests me even more: How can I fix this again without
reinstalling the whole thing ans losing all my settings??
I dont want to have to set everything again, because it takes forever.

Oh.. fortunately the other skins still work, but would still like the
standard skin back.

Thanks for anybody who can help!

Michael

Clean your browser's cache (not only reload the page). Try another
browser. If this still doesn't help, shut down SlimServer and clean it's
cache folder as well.

If this still doesn't help, you might give us some information about your

The problem is probably due to a cache either in Slimserver or browser.
Since you didn't give any OS, SS version or browser version - no more
specific help can be given.

For 6.5 you can use MyPicks plugin to save internet radio stations with
nice titles and edit them from the web. I think this functionality will
be included in 7.0 for handling favorites.

Who said anything about wired or wireless?

The question was Does the Squeeezebox have to be connected to your
stereo receiver, or will it broadcast through the radio?

The answer is, it must be connected to your stereo, whether that's a
wireless or wired connection.

So, let's not mislead.

The Alan Parsons Project under PAR, for example). Then I'll just need
to tweak SlimServer to recognizing those tags from the Cue.

Unfortunately, it seems that images and cues are a bit of a red-headed
step child around here. It's a worry that Logitech may stop supporting
them in the mainline SlimServer.

[slim] Slim Server Service Names

2007-03-26 Thread RossGoodman

I have Slim Server 6.5.1 installed on my laptop, I know it's weird, but
I like SlimServer and SoftSqueeze.
As It's my laptop I don't like spurious stuff starting unless it's
required. I have two services SlimServer and SlimServerMySQL. I set
both of these services to manual to ensure that they do not run
automatically.

When I use the icon to start Slimserver, it starts the MySQL service
but not the SlimServer service. Everything seems to be working. Am I
missing something?

If the user has used SlimTray to configure Slimserver not to start

Slimserver will be run as a detached process of the user not as a

Yeah, the Windows SlimServer/SlimTray installation is royally screwed
up in 6.5.1 and guaranteed to cause confusion exactly like this.

In the end SlimServer _should_ be running when started from SlimTray -
just that it's not the SlimServer service that is running.

[slim] Problems Organizing Music Library - Suggestions Most Welcome

2007-03-26 Thread Sunra55

Howdy. I've spent a good part of the weekend trying to get Slim Server
to work properly and I'm starting to give up hope. Here's my problem:

No matter how I try the sort or organize my music library it is not
correct. I tried to fix the situation by re-tagging all my music in
the same fashion (using the Godfather). This didn't work. I next
decided to try it without Itunes but after rescanning I'm still have
same problems. It's really frustrating. The music is properly
organized in Itunes but the Slim Server interface just doesn't work.
I'm ready to ebay the sb3. GRRR.

If anyone can help out I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Re: [slim] Problems Organizing Music Library - Suggestions Most Welcome

2007-03-26 Thread Sunra55

I suppose I could have been more specific :).

By not correct I mean: I have duplicate albums (which should be fixed
because I updated the tags); when viewing Artist/Album but the reverse
shows up in Slim Server, or viewing everything just by Album, I get 5
entries for the same album. Perhaps it's a couple of stray tags that
are causing this but if you can think of other reasons why duplicate
entries are happening I'd be much obliged.

I'm also wondering if there's a third-party plug-in or something that's
a bit more intuitive in terms of managing your music library.

Any suggestions would be sweet.

[slim] Web skin is missing

2007-03-26 Thread blader_se

I've just set up a new SlimServer on a Linux (ubuntu) box and everything
seems to be working except...

I don't get the skin loaded when browsing to http://host:9000. It just
prints the page text, not bothering about any layout (CSS). There is no
change when I try and set a default skin. But, when explicitly going to
http://host:9000/default, or any other skin, it works and displays
nicely.

I've tried both firefox and IE, forced reload of webpage. It have
always worked with those browsers on my other slimservers (I'm not
browsing locally).

Any thoughts?

I believe I saw something about this in the forum some time ago but
haven't been able to find anything now.
