I purchased my Slimp3 (which I still use) 6 years ago. I bought it to replace my Turtle Beach Audiotron (remember those?) which was a royal pain to use (but very, very cool back in late 2000!) I had almost all issues described in this thread. On a bad day i could not get 100% on the 64kbps network test even if no other wireless computer was on. I replaced my Netgear DG834G with a Linksys WAG325N, placed it on the exact same spot and now I get 100% on the 5000kbps test all day long even with 4 wireless computers connected, surfing, streaming and whatever. Of course this won't help if the SB are wired. Tips for wireless SB. 1. The server should be wired and have a fixed ip outside the dhcp scoop. 2. Set a fixed ip on the SB. Make shure it's outside the dhcp scoop. All kind of strange things could happen if you have a ip conflict. 3. Upgrade your switch\router. 4. Move around the AP to find the best spot. 5. Wire the SB just to se if it still problems. Tips for wired SB. 1. See above. 2. See above. 3. Install Softsqueeze on a wired PC and test if that works. 4. Uninstall antivirus and disable FW (just for the moment) on the server. 5. Try another cable. 6. Change port om the switch. 7. Upgrade your switch\router. 8. Install SC on another PC. You need to go into the setting menu for that player you're using (in this case, SoftSqueeze). Re: [slim] Error: Couldn't install MySQL as a service!
You could also set your SqueezeCenter service to depend on the MySql service (so, whenever the SqueezeCenter service was started, the SCM would start SqueezeMySQL first, -then- SqueezeMySQL. In windows versions prior to Vista (and almost certainly in Vista) you do this in the registry, not the services control manager. Open your registry editor - go to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\squeezesvc Look for a sub-key called -DependOnService-. If it doesn't exist - create it as a -MULTI_SZ- - the data is -SqueezeMySQL- If it does exist (maybe you already did this for MusicIP?) - edit it - add an additional line to the data - -SqueezeMySQL- I'm actually a bit surprised that the SqueezeCenter install process doesn't just -do- this - I guess it's a matter of being able to support already-installed generic MySQL installations. -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44656 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

For stream that are transcoded - the display will the original format of the stream and not the transcoded (e.g. an RTSP stream will be shown as RTSP and not as FLAC which is actually sent to SB). I suspect it might the same for files. The only way to be sure is to check the network statistics. Well i know the bitrate is not reduced, i am pretty able to hear the difference between 320kbps mp3 and 64kbps for example, and the audio i hear (when i use 3.party player and set buffer size very big) is high quality, i.e. the stream is not downsampled. in adition the buffer runs out just as fast when i choose no limit as to when i choose 64, also my connection isnt _that_ bad... could you maybe give me more details on the player.source=debug thingy? i looked around a bit, but couldnt find out where i set that, maybe ill have to read some manuals :) It is pretty obvious to me that choosing a bitrate limit has absolutely no effect on the stream on my system. -- rayslim rayslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16049 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44729 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Yes i understand that, I deleted the log file first so it is not an old entry. Let me explain what i also tried: i opened the stream from winamp/mediamonkey and other apps. I set the buffer to 1MB which by the way should be sufficiant to buffer the entire song if it was 64kbps... but yet the buffer gets empty several times during a 3-4 minutes song. So there is definitly something wrong and the stream is not 64kbps. Also it is quite easy to hear if it is downsampled to 64... Yap, you're right. What confused me is that his error message poins that he's trying to connect from somewhere other than 127.0.0.1 (192.168.0.100). If he is coming from the same box where the SC is running, then there might be that his PC gets a static address from the router and passes that to SC. Anyhow, good idea would be to reinstall 6.5.4, remove any kind of blocking there and then go to SC7. Then, if it works, do what I suggested and set it up again. Re: [slim] jive album sorting
Maybe you should consider Jive as a WIP? It was developed quite quickly and there are still a few things outstanding. SlimServer/Squeezecenter took quite a few years to reach the state it has. Most of the navigational things I think are pretty crucial are due to be addressed in 7.0.1: * All Albums lisrings (from say, a Genre) * Remember where you were last at when you return (i.e. back track) * Reach the correct track in a Various Artists album when you've navigated from an artist that has one track in that album * Another one, which I've forgotten. MrSinatra;279685 Wrote: however, what i meant was that most people, and most rips via lame or whatever, don't include the tag by default. That's because it's optional and based on user preference. How you want albumsort is certainly different than how I want it, so there's no standard value, unlike something such as track title. i see albumsort like compilation or other various 'extra' tags... they may be standard via some standards body, but they aren't commonly enacted by default on rips. I'm pretty sure iTunes adds TCMP/COMPILATION to rips, so that one at least is standard for a lot of people. i'm not sure if one can enable them by default on a rip, maybe you can configure EAC to do so... but mine doesn't do it. You sure can, EAC lets you add whatever tags you like as the whole FLAC command line is configurable. What's more, you have the tokens you probably need (artist name, album name, year) right there too. What puzzles me is what you did before SC7? My understanding is that the only way to affect sort order on SS6 was via albumsort tags, so most people who care about such things already have them in their collections. Re: [slim] jive album sorting
excuse my non-exacting use of language, a sin i am often guilty of here. i actually can't say if the tag is standard or not, tag standards in general seem to be a mess and there is seemingly no ultimate authority on them. however, what i meant was that most people, and most rips via lame or whatever, don't include the tag by default. i see albumsort like compilation or other various 'extra' tags... they may be standard via some standards body, but they aren't commonly enacted by default on rips. i'm not sure if one can enable them by default on a rip, maybe you can configure EAC to do so... but mine doesn't do it. anyway, my point is i don't want to use tags that aren't automatic via the rip. and i surely don't want to add tags to thousands on albums. i don't want to go thru my whole collection adding tags that SC7 (more or less) doesn't need. if its just a matter of patience, np, i can wait for jive to do what SC7 does. but adding tags to make jive do what SC7 does? no thanks. -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 (primary) / SBR (secondary) / Jive - w/SC 7.0.1beta - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44743 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

kdf, how do you see the final implementation in practice? i think artists is fine as is (by default) which is a simple alphabetical list without artwork. but albums should be the way dean suggests by default, artist, year, album with little album artwork icons right? is that how you see it too? and i would think that various albums would also come up with the track by that artist in such a list. meaning, if i have 3 willie nelson ablums, and one various artist one he has one track on, i would see all four albums, but only his one track from the various album. yes? -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 (primary) / SBR (secondary) / Jive - w/SC 7.0.1beta - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44743 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
