Re: [slim] Fip Radio - any plugin to display song info?

2009-06-25 Thread Paul Webster

Regarding the plug-in mechanism
Michael Herger wrote one to parse teh web site of DRS
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54996
and that was used as the basis for another one to parse Radio Zürisee
http://sergio.trentini.ch/fileadmin/downloads/zuerisee_plugin.txt

As you will see - it does require coding - but since the underlying
mechaism has been done then ... using View Source to look at the
broadcaster's site and then work out the correct text strings to look
for is the next step.

Anyone fancy writing a more generic plug-in - that would take a list of
URL and regex expressions - to that it would be easier to make new ones?

[slim] Softaqueeze High CPU on MBP

2009-06-25 Thread notechyet

Hello members
I have just installed Softsqueeze on my MBP Leopard with 4gb mem. Is
there something wrong with my installation as SSQ 3.7 uses ~25-30 %
CPU?
Had installed before on XP(Fusion) and uninstalled for the same reason
as the CPU from the VM was also very high.
Has anyone some hints for me?
Thanks

Why don't you use the Versaradio plugin which is a generic plugin but

How do I get a modern SB3 (Classic) power supply the Logitech shop
(priced in US $) doesn't have a Classic power supply for sale. I can
get Boom, Reciever and Duet Remote power supplies but NOT Classic.
However I can get a replacement Classic remote control and an IR Blaster
kit. Is the Classic power supply the same as the Slim Devices SB3 power
supply I currently have. Where are the specifications of the Reciever
and Boom power supplies, ie. the input power and output power
requirements? what are the plugs that go into the players like? Note I
can also get an International Power Plate Kit that are the connectors
for different mains leads arrount the world.

Thank you very much for your help so far.

A little bit more weight and a rubbe bottom should be enough. the SB3

Not all touch screens need pressure. There are two main types of
technology: Resistive and capacitive. Resistive ones need pressure,
capacitive screen sense the finger on the screen instead, so you don't
need to press hard. Although both technologies have their pros and
cons.

Viewing angle.
Actually I fail to see why you need that on a phone... They are just
used on phones because they are cool and new and at first were not
available at large sizes. OK, they may save some power, too.
Also, they were originally supposed to be cheaper than LCDs because
they are much simpler. Don't know about current prices.

grepped means using the grep UNIX command to find text in a file.
dbuk is using a LINUX box to run SqueezeCenter and is unable to resolve
www.bbc.co.uk? This is very odd. Editing BBC.pm while solving the
imediate problem may cause new problems in the future if the normal BBC
website becomes available and the domanin name without the www may fail
in the future? I don't know if this will happen, but not being able to
reslove the normal BBC website is a BIG problem in itself. I haven't
had any problems accessing BBC radio using Alien BBC or BBC iPlayer

Re: [slim] BBC Completely Unavailable

2009-06-25 Thread bpa

There is a strange solution and it looks like it relates to your ISP and
connectivity.

Rather than ping - nslookup is better as it gives more info.

IT would be usefulto try the nslookupo on your PC - on my (non UK) PC I
get the following.

The name www.bbc.co.uk resolved to www.bbc.net.uk

Code:

  nslookup www.bbc.co.uk
  Server: 192.168.1.254
  Address:192.168.1.254#53

  Non-authoritative answer:
  www.bbc.co.uk canonical name = www.bbc.net.uk.
  Name: www.bbc.net.uk
  Address: 212.58.253.68

Whereas bbc.co.uk resolves just to bbc.co.uk - a different IP address.

Code:

   nslookup bbc.co.uk
  Server: 192.168.1.254
  Address:192.168.1.254#53

  Non-authoritative answer:
  Name: bbc.co.uk
  Address: 212.58.254.252

Actually _I_ thought that was the main advantage. They are
self-illuminating so they theoretically have an indefinite viewing angle
(as long as you can see the display).
Especially there is absolutely no color distortion with the viewing
angle.
Which is a nice feature for picture frames or similar products. While
it's not really important for mobile phones.

[slim] Better SqueezeCenter/Boom Alarm clock features

2009-06-25 Thread Mark Komarinski
I'm slowly turning my wife into a gadget hound like me. She's accepted the
Tivo, Harmony, and the SLIMP3/Squeezebox 3/Boom in the house so far (and
suggested we need another Boom for the kitchen, but that's another story).

The Boom is in our bedroom where it's playing nice quiet music to sleep to.
I'd like to pull out the alarm clock we have in the room so that I have only
the Boom acting as clock, alarm, and music player. I've set the alarm
schedule via SqueezeCenter, but it's not doing what I really want.

This morning, the first alarm went off at the right time, but the only way
to turn off the alarm is to turn the Boom off. When I turn it back on, it's
still set to play the audio file that is acting as alarm and the previous
playlist is gone.

What I really want is:

- save the current playlist (even up to the song that's currently playing)
- start alarm playlist (whatever is configured for that alarm)
- on poweroff or snooze, go back to previous playlist and volume level
- repeat for next alarm

A quick search hasn't found a plugin to do this, but I'd love to be wrong.

Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95

2009-06-25 Thread spumanti

I must say, that v0.95 is very nice indeed :)

Only some minor cosmetic things:

When the WIFI is off, and I switch on the application, the WIFI is
turned on automatically. (VERY nice feature, by the way).
The server status will show (forgot the exact words but something like
this):
- Switching on WIFI
- Connecting to server...
- No route to host, check your network settings
- Connected to server

So it works like it should, but maybe a longer timeout value before the
No route to host message is shown.

Some non-standard characters are still shown like %xx%xx .
I noticed it mainly with the danish special characters, like
æ ø å Æ Ø Å
-and the sign is still shown as an underscore _

Apart from the above mentioned, the application is super. The 3 add to
playlist icons are easy enough to understand IMHO.

I may have some feature enhancement requests later, but i'll have to
think about what would / could improve the SlimControl.

Also, I would prefer a scrollbar, I find the scrolling as it is

be a hardware issue?

Other thoughts:
a clear playlist button

AMOLED screens are clear and the pixels are faster and brighter than the

capacitive screen sense the finger on the screen instead, so you don't
need to press hard. Although both technologies have their pros and cons.

I understand the technology behind the screens, the issue is that the
natural-instintive way to interface with touch screen is to apply
pressure on them. But... I guess I can get used to not trying to push my
index finger to the other side of the screen.

Re: [slim] Gross Failure - Barcode in display

2009-06-25 Thread Labarum

Repeat problem as reported at the top of this post.

This time everything went silent. I unplugged the SB3 power supply and
rebooted. The scrolling bar code appeared, but in the scroll the prompts
for re-registering to the network appear. Once that was effected I was
listening again.

Any gurus with ideas?

Perhaps one of the Logitech team could comment?

[slim] SB3: connect timed out: bad file descriptor

2009-06-25 Thread Pete7874

I am running SC 7.3.3 with SB3 under WinXP. I can't seem to be able to
play .ogg audio streams (internet radio). I keep getting connect timed
out bad file descriptor message on the SB3.

This used to work in the past. Not sure what's changed, but what do I
need to do to make it work again?

Here's one example:
http://poznan5-1.radio.pionier.net.pl:8000/radiotok.ogg

Plays fine on my PC.

Thanks!

[slim] 7.3.3 on Windows 7

2009-06-25 Thread mr-b

I just tried installing 7.3.3 on a new Windows 7/32 install (was running

install had prompted me for the music folder it did an initial scan -
however the scan only found a handful of entries.

Library Statistics
Total Tracks: 4

Music Scan Details

[slim] whats my wireless setup like?

2009-06-25 Thread method man

I’m after some advice guys from the more technically minded.
I’m streaming music from a PC to a Squeezebox only about 18 foot. But
I’m still getting dropouts etc.
I realise the reliability is 90% down to ones own wireless setup and
strength. Heres my problem.
its a bit of a dark art to me. I have quite a new Dell PC on Vista
connected to the interent with a
Fairly old Speedtouch 570. I understand this is an internet
modem/wireless router combo? I was sent this by Tiscali a few years back
when we went on Broadband. But it doesn’t have enough outputs so I
linked up a Belkin Wireles G Router that someone had lying around to the
Speedtouch. Somehow it worked and the Squeezebox worked straight out of
the box. (it wouldn’t connect to the Speedtouch just the Belkin).
The controller is a bit flakey, and I get buffering when trying to play
FLAC. So I was wondering if, my kit is a shambles, and if so whats good
stuff to buy. (ps we run a laptop off of the wireless too

Re: [slim] whats my wireless setup like?

2009-06-25 Thread maggior

A common source of wireless issues are interference from neighboring
wireless networks. If you have neighbors running on the same channel as
you, the performance won't be that good and you will likely get
dropouts.

With a laptop, you don't notice this type of thing really unless you
are streaming media.

As a quick experiment, you could try the far ends of the spectrum and
see what works. You could try channel 1. If that doesn't work, then
try channel 11. It's likely that you (and all of your neighbors) are on
the default channel of 5 (?? It's been a while, I forget which channel
is typically the default. It's either 5 or 6).

Another common household source of interference is the microwave. And
then there are some cordless phones that can interfer.

Re: [slim] whats my wireless setup like?

2009-06-25 Thread tcutting

You will want the Belkin router to be your wireless access point and
router. I believe you will have to have that connected to the
SpeedTouch (I would expect the LAN port of the Belkin router is
connected to the ethernet port of the speedtouch). I don't know if you
can configure the Speedtouch, but if you can I would turn its wireless
OFF (it runs old 802.11b, which is now pretty much obsolete). I also
don't know if there will be an issue with its DHCP server, but maybe not
since it will be on the LAN side of the Belkin router.
Is your Squeezebox player connecting to the Belkin via wireless? If
it's as close as you say, you should be able to wire it? If you could,
I would suggest that as that's one less wireless interface to worry
about... however you'll have to figure out how to configure your
squeezebox to connect via the wired instead of the wireless (I don't
think it's automatic, so if it's configured wireless then just
connecting up the wired ethernet won't cause it to use the wired port,
you'll have to configure it... process will depend on what squeezebox
hardware you have, I think). Of course, the Controller has to be
connected wireless, so finding the best channel is still worthwhile.

You can get it already today, it just comes from different companies.

Sorry for the bad picture quality of the attached image, didn't want to
expose too much since the left part is a bit reflective and can expose
things I don't want to be exposed yet.

The left part of this beta testing unit is based on a Squeezebox
Classic which probably look familiar and the right touch screen part is
newer and based on an iPod Touch from Apple. As you can see from the
picture the design and docking connections between the different parts
has not been finalized yet in this early beta testing unit. When Apple
and Logitech has realized the potential, joined forces and finalized the
design, I'm sure the left and right part will fit together more nicely.

The reflective characteristic of the left part should be interesting
for everyone interested in starting completely new conspiracy theories
of everything else in my living room.

As a beta tester of the Boom and the Controller (not the Duet) I've got
a feeling Logitech chooses the beta testers among:
- People they know personally
- People that participate as beta testers of the free Squeezebox Server
(SqueezeCenter) software by posting critique/suggestions in the beta
forum section and posting bug reports.
- Plugin developers which they feel have a potential to enhance the new
product even further.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you don't get to be a beta tester because you
request/ask to be one, you got to do something that makes Logitech
thinks you will be a good beta tester. The phrase, don't call us, we
will call you comes to mind.

I've no idea if the selection process has changed after the Boom beta
