If ones setup is simple and one can handle a new download of SBS then answer yes to update now on ones Controller, I think one is much better off with SBS 7.4. And if its not ones cup of tea, roll back to SC 7.3.3. I can guarantee for every one person that posts they have an issue or problem with SBS 7.4 that there are hundreds if not thousands that don't have ANY problems and don't post. [slim] Transporter: effect loop and wordclock sync
I have an external device (RME Fireface UC) that I've put in the effect loop of the transporter using the Toslink connectors. This works fine, except that the Transporter dont seem to accept clock sync at the wordclock input when the effects loop is enabled. Is this supposed to work at all? WHOW, and you realy think the change you are happy with this change? YOU are the first one that announce the switching back from iPhone/iPeng. Interesting for others to hear, because it should happen not so often that someone use both solutions. The change and testing to 7.4 was very painfull in my case. I did setup 7.4 onmy laptop. and did try first to use it with the software players first. Special the Squeezeplay Software what should be similar to the Duet was not working and was not able to connect to the server and special to mysqueezeboxnetwork.com Because Locuth use my Duet (in parts for developement) i hope until i see not less rumors he do not update for some days to 7.4 This cause major problems for compatibility of Slimcontrol because it is optimised for 7.1-7.33. The squeezenetwork was not necessary until now, because Locuth do it in a different way to make the Services (Applications like Last.fm) running without the Squeezenetwork connection. Here in fact i see now a problem with 7.4 because there seems a major change. I can no more use with SlimControl Last.FM advanced features like i could do before. And they where special more advanced than inside SB3 possible. It was more easy to find any song and artist than in any other online libary directly. As it runs now it needs to sort out how to do best. Maybee a version 1.0 what is announced as stable needs to come in 2 Versions for server up to 7.3x and another that runs from Version 7.4 Sad this is, so short in front of release date 1.0 of SlimControl to see such major changes inside the Server. -- arztde arztde's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64537 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Which device do you expect to be the clock master? - used in the fx loop, I'd expect to use a discrete master clock to drive both TP and RME. I don't think you can (or would want to) use the RME clock to drive the TP DAC. [slim] Squeezeboxes has changed our whole home. Thanks Logitech!
I am so happy with my purchases from Logitech. The whole home is filled with synchronized musicmusic genres that can be changed to match anyones preferences. The quality of the sound is awesome and the functionality works very well. I like the 7.4 update and like any new program version the bugs will be tweeked. I trust Logitech. At night I can unsync and listen to my preference as I set the sleep mode to 45 minutes and fall asleep. The varieties of talk radio selections allow me to choose something other than what I am provided locally (which I am afraid is poor here...a lot of screaming hosts and so much negativity). I hone in on college and pro-football games that are not broadcast locally. I wake up early just so I can enjoy my musical sounds and when I workout I put on music that motivates me to roll and burn. And the forums are so helpful to get this complex and multifunctional system initiated. The people here are so helpful! THANK YOU! So, I am so glad I found Logitech's Squeezebox System. I am looking forward to the Touch and maybe some other additional Squeezes for other rooms. After startup, when I go straight to the "New Music" page there is no progress bar telling about updating cache. If I switch to the album view it is shown, but goes away again if I decide to switch to the New Music View again. Should not the progress indicator be shown in any view that deals with information from the server or at least those that display cover art? [slim] Flickr - need help
I can't get my Flickr account to authorize for mysqueezebox.com. The mysqeezebox page comes up OK, opens a new screen at Flickr stating someone would like access and is that OK? I say yes, it it tells me that has been done and I can close this web page. When I go back to mysqueezebox.com, it has a button to "Complete Authorization". I press that and then the web page stays in limbo until I cancel the action. My controller sees the random Flickr pictures OK. I've seen very little message traffic on this issue and there seems to be nothing in the wiki. One post talked about differences between IDs on the two services. My Flickr was set up with a Yahoo email address and mysqueezebox uses my regular email. However, I don't want to start over with new accounts at either place. Not a big deal if I can't get it to work, but it'd be nice. The progress indicator has nothing to do with the cover art (other than that cover art only starts loading after all albums have been cached). Instead, it shows how much of the _page_ you are looking at is already cached. And it only shows up for pages that do actually become cached. These are Albums, Artists and Genres. Maybe for technology companies (like Logitech) it has a bit more bearing; but in general I don't think there's a clear correlation. Great products sometimes have horrible or non-existent websites and conversely pretty good websites can back bad products. I would expect online reviews and commentary, Amazon reviews, in-store placement, etc to have a bigger impact on new users finding Squeezeboxes that Logitech's site. But of course I'm just guessing. Re: [slim] 7.4 not happy - gone back to 7.3
I've been running on WHS (aka Windows Server 2003) with no serious issues since release. Before that, I had been running 7.4 beta since June, and there were certainly issues then. I installed SBS before I actually purchased my Duet, in order to get comfortable with the system. So I never had 7.3x installed. It appears that there have been many problems with migrating from 7.3x to 7.4 - both in actual code AND in user expectations (where did this feature get moved?). The roughest area for me was the Controller code upgrade. Well the SB3 is being replaced by the Touch, so maintaining the firmware will become less important. *However*, Boom, Receiver and Transporter all share the same basic hardware platform as the SB2/3, so continuing support for the SB2/3 won't be much additional work when making changes for the others based on the IP3K platform. Although not actively maintained, the SliMP3 and SB1 are still supported in the newest software. You will see a reduction in the level of support for those players as they are a completely different architecture, but at the moment this is confined to the version of SBS that will run on the Touch (the protocol for these players takes far more processing power, something the Touch might striggle with). I wouldn't start bemoaning the death of the SB2/3 just yet though :) Oh and as for whether there is a need to upgrade: there are lots of improvements in the scanner and some database optimisations, so things should be quicker with 7.4 vs 7.3.x. -- funkstar my collection: *1*x squeezebox radio *1*x squeezebox touch *1*x squeezebox boom *2*x controller, *1*x receiver *2*x sb3 (sliver/black), *1*x sb2 wired (silver) *1*x sb (black), *1*x slimp3 (with rear shield) interested in any others if you have them! funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69118 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] New Computer for SqueezeBox Server
You might look at a Windows Home Server. You can get one pre-built or build your own. The hardware requirements are not heavy at all, so you can end up with a small box that doesn't take much power (it's headless - no monitor or keyboard, and administered from any networked PC). WHS boxes are meant to run 24/7, although you can have them sleep in the middle of the night if you wish. Nice added features are automated backup of all PCs (and Macs too if you buy a system from HP), remote access, media sharing and even home automation. as annoying as I think she is, I have to remember I'm not the target audience: the target audience is "people who have no real idea what a Squeezebox is and why it can change their music listening so much". I can see she might be helpful in that instance: not necessarily 'appealing' to people but at least calling attention to the product and providing some information that is hard to express in a typical product information sheet. There are some new scanning bugs, too, particularly when dealing with non-western characters in tags and file paths. After the 7.4 "upgrade" I have two icons: one named Squeezebox Server and the other Squeezebox Control Panel. BOTH of them lead to Control Panel. Where has the Server gone? Well, there is a small tray icon. If I double click that I get Control Panel again. If I RIGHT click on it I get a menu one of whose choices is "Open Web Control..." Web Control? What's that? I'm looking for Server. Turns out that clicking on "Web Control" does open Server. Did anyone at Logitech try to USE this before releasing it? OK, tons of errors but to me it looks like it's not finding the playlist. Weird. I believe somebody from Logitech needs to step in. [slim] 7.4 - Save me from this nightmare!!
My Squeezebox Duet and Squeezebox Boom have just been reduced to very expensive paper weights. Well, at least the Squeezebox Boom is also a very expensive clock radio. So, on Wednesday I received Logitech's email announcement about the upgrade to Squeezebox Server 7.4. Excited, I downloaded and installed the update that night. I had been running SqueezeCenter 7.3.x on a ReadyNAS hard drive. My iTunes music library is also saved on that drive, which is what SqueezeCenter used as the source of my music. Everything had been working well. After installing the upgrade, I found that it had erased all my settings. I had to set up my favorites, podcasts, alarms etc. from scratch. But I eventually got it to work. Then I tried to use the iTunes plug-in to scan my library. Disaster. Scanning this forum, I quickly learned that the new SqueezeServer was not compatible with the iTunes plug-in. No problem. I disabled it, restarted the server, rescanned my entire library, and then . . . . nothing. The software would not play any of my music (m4a files). I rebooted the hard drive and rescanned my entire library again. Same result. I have wasted my entire weekend troubleshooting this problem, to no avail. The players will not lay any of the music in my library. I note, however, that I can stream radio stations and podcasts just fine. I just got on this forum again, to trouble shoot, and saw posts mentioning version 7.4.1 of the upgrade. Great, I thought, maybe this fixes the problem. So I went to download the 7.4.1 versions. To my horror I saw an announcement: "Squeezebox Server 7.4 is not currently available for ReadyNAS" So, now I find that I have a version of the server software that is incompatible with my hard drive. And, I have no way to go back and instal the previous version that works. I am at my wits end. Before this upgrade, I enthusiastically recommended these products to everyone. Now, I want desperately to return them, get my money back and buy a Sonos! Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated!! -- sam.woodley sam.woodley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33271 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69143 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Figured mention of the switch from iPhone --> Windows Mobile would get some reaction! For a number of years I used Windows Mobile and then got iPhone last year. Unfortunately the iPhone got stolen in China this summer so I had a choice of replacements. Decided to return to WM due to the flexibility! No question iPhone OS makes Windows Mobile look like an old man... Microsoft has ALOT of catching up to do in the user interface department. But for business oriented apps like mobile Word / Excel, or as a doctor I wanted to have access to medical books without being tied to the Internet, Windows Mobile works for me. Regarding the SqueezeBox -- iPeng is awesome and I still use it on my wife's iPhone. Does everything including selecting input source on the Transporter, etc... My main purpose is to browse through my music library so for that SlimControl works and I'm thankful for that. Have not had any problems with 7.4. It installed on my Windows Home Server automatically with no fuss. I admit I don't listen to the radio much so will try it out later. This software is composed of a server program running in the background, the other software and libraries it depends on (mainly Perl and MySQL), and - on MacOS and Windows only - a control panel entry that can be used to configure its base settings, check its status, start it up or shut it down. The Windows version also comes with a tray icon. No more, no less. What you called "Server", and which is now called "Web control" is only one of many user interfaces offered by the server software, ie -client- access to the server software. Although I don't use Windows and can't see the reason why there are several entries in the Start menu (but maybe one launches the tray icon?), this new naming scheme all seems very logical to me. It does mean that I would not be able to connect the radio to sbs remotely while at sbs at computer. -- Ikabob Ikabob's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69129 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Display weaker with 7.4?
The default wallpaper and text on new SBC ui does have much less contrast. I find it helps to change the wallpaper to a lighter/brighter color, and most of the standard choices available now are either too dark or too hideously busy. I recommend the Customize Controller plugin as a very easy way to change your SBC wallpaper. Several users have posted their brighter wallpapers in the forums -- just search on "wallpaper" and you'll find them. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69114 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Two things... 1) Please contact Support via phone... they sit around all day wanting nothing more than to help you solve your issues! Use them! 2) Your original post could really use some detailed info to clear things up... it sounds like your running SbS on ReadyNAS -- can you confirm that? Can you give us details about which ReadyNAS you have, which version of SC you were running before, and the exact steps you took to get to where you are now? There is a known bug (https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14451) dealing with what I am guessing is your issue. The good news is that there's a large group of people working on solving this. The bad news, its not yet solved. Its close, but not there yet. (on a side note... I sincerely hope we NEVER change our software name again. its a huge pita that causes unbelievable problems!) -- Matt Wise Matt Wise's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13773 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69143 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Use iTunes to connect to a radio stream at http://:9000/stream.mp3 and you can then use the web interface to control it like a regular player. -- radish 'HELP ME RAISE MONEY FOR CHILDREN'S CANCER RESEARCH!' [slim] Two major problems when updating to 7.4
Sorry to start another thread, but I didn't see where we had one main thread going for "7.4 bonked my whole setup!". So here goes: I am running Vista32 and began the day with 7.3.3. After installing 7.4, my music scan gave me "Music scan terminated unexpectedly (Merge Various Artists)". This happened after all my songs where scanned in, but I don't like this error. A more major malfunction has rendered both my Transporter and SB3 unusable. I am prompted to update their firmwares, but am eventually greeted with the message "nb alloc failed in slimproto". Resetting, etc. has not helped. I think I am going to try 7.4.1, but for some reason I don't think it is going to fix either of these problems. Can anyone offer assistance? I am really broken right now... -- SamS SamS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9261 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69158 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] My top request to Logitech Squeezebox
Going forward, I think that utter emphasis should be placed on saviing preferences during upgrades. Please. The more SB products I own, the more disgruntled I will get if I have to manually set up every SB in my network again to my liking. And I want to buy more - I am about to pull the trigger on a Touch and a Radio, but I would like to know someone is listening. Eventually I would like to see a preference/configuration backup tool. I don't mind the experimental edge, and trouble shooting a little; but the repetitive work of re-entering th same stuff over and over again is silly. Please? That would make upgrades far more painless. The biggest outcry in 7.4 has been lost preferences. A backup tool would likely solve most of those. -- pablolie ...pablo Server: Shuttle X27 - Ubuntu 9.04 - SBS 7.4 Sources: SB3 (3), SB Boom (3), Duet, Accuphase DP65v CD Amplifier: Accuphase E306v - Creek OBH21/22 Loudspeakers: Ceeroy 3-way tower (tuned) - Audioengine 5/S8 - Acoustic Energy Aego M Headphones: Grado SR-1 pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69161 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Mine did this as well. I updated the server to 7.4.1, turned the controller off, turned it back on, it updated to 7.4.1 (I think), and that fixed it. -- ADVin ADVin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33078 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69151 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

For the most part, these problems were limited to people running Linux and it was due to the package name change. It's a niche -- but vocal -- group and while well supported in many ways, testing is limited. I run all my SS stuff on my Debian box myself so I know that little things like getting the Debian repos stable/testing/unstable updated properly took until a few days after the 7.4 release. Anyway, my point is that most people absolutely did not have to go through what you went through. We all get it. You got burned. Burned bad. It is hours/days of your life that you can never get back. But each time you write a new message about it, it's seconds/minutes of my life that I can never get back. I say that in jest.. mostly.
