Re: [slim] Improved Squeezebox config availible for Harmony users.
What I'm looking for is just a button with the radiostation name (or graphic), eg "BBC Radio 4" which triggers a certain SC favourite (eg no.4) and would emulate 'press and hold 4' on the SB remote) If there's no easy solution, I guess I can teach the harmony to learn prolonged number presses for all 9 digits. -- coolnice coolnice's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38136 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67769 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] MusicIP and accented characters in 7.5.1
Unfortunately the Perl script didn't work with my cygwin installation on Windows XP. It could find the accented characters but didn't replace them with their 'equal' part, like é to e. So I converted my characters in filenames and folders from UTF to ASCII with MP3Tag using the 'action' feature. For people who want to try as well, I have attached the 'mta' file so you don't have to recode it yourself. Drop it in the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_LOGIN_NAME\Application Data\Mp3tag\data\actions. I now know more then I ever wanted to know about character sets! There is still some manual clicking needed since 'do with all' or something like that, doesn't really seem to work. Also, the folder above the folder with mp3 files doesn't get fixed. So if you have something like: "Music\Maná\Maná - 2008 - Arde El Cielo\01 - Dejame Entrar.mp3", the first Maná doesn't get converted to Mana, but the one in the Album name does. You can easily find those with the Perl script using cygwin. The result re: MusicIP? It fixed the problem!!! I can now create mixes with SqueezeCenter in which songs with accented characters appear and they even play without complaining! So in short, if you want to use MusicIP you can not have 'international' characters in the filename or folder, but you can in the ID tags. -- treble treble's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2797 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78059 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

MrSinatra;545598 Wrote: > well, like i said earlier, its interesting to me that all the focus was > being put on the sonicwall, when you can listen to the same stream on > winamp just fine. I suggest you read the thread: the OP brought up the Sonicwall -- it worked fine at his location, not at the clients, and the clients are behind a SonicWall. If you've had the displeasure of using a SonicWall, you would know why I abhor them. A sample setup: client PC's behind a sonic wall web server outside the sonic (NOT in the 'dmz', the port labelled DMZ is not a DMZ according to SonicWall support. "Box no do that" is the direct quote.) Very simple. HTTP Posts for me (outside the sonicwall to the web server): I uploaded 20M flv files in a second or two. HTTP post for people behind the sonic wall of the same files: 2 minutes. Not exaggerating. In order to make their life better, we used a second ethernet port on the web server with a net-10 address so that they could actually post in a reasonable time by bypassing the Sonic. Of course, that totally destroys the point of having a fireall when a public facing and highly visible web server has an ethernet port on the 'secured' network. Amazingly bad crap. It was switched out for a Linux box running shorewall, and the complaints about speed went away. Not only did their access to their own web server speed up, so did their access to everything on the 'net. do you have contradictory experience with SonicWall? > > some people tend to focus on shifting blame from all things slim, no > matter what. thats unfortunate, since it doesn't help improve slim. > Again, read the first post. I didn't bring up SonicWall: the OP did, and I expressed my experience with it. We had three of the things, they all got written off and given away. What is your experience with SonicWalls? Many thanks Phil. I wondered that too, so I'd stripped out the MP3 tags using MediaMonkey. However I think I've sussed it - there's a non-standard FLAC tag called COMPILATION, which MediaMonkey doesn't show. I've found a utility which does show it and that's the difference between the albums. I've rescanned, and that seems to fix it. Re: [slim] What product you'd like to see next
SqueezePlay has bigger problems than a rigid UI . It may sound contra intuitive, but this "fat" players are slowing the whole system down for various reason , mainly that the players do to much "thinking" by them-self and the server sits there waiting. And the use of a scripting language on a memory and cpu starved platform ? Should it not at least be some kind of assembler code or compiled code ? The slim devices has an edge when driven by a local server they are much more efficient. Hopefully the customize squeezeplay UI bug is kept alive, there are some good ideas there. I would like to turn of images for the playlist's on SqueePlay the NP screen can show it and album and artist views, but having to sit and wait for a controller to cache hundreds of tiny images for a playlist ? it's enough with one on the NP screen. So a wish for a more efficient and customizable squeeplay in the future. It can be improved/changed, there is wast differences between SP as seen on the first controllers and what we have now regardless of which version you prefer it can be changed. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe'Primare and Dynadio speakers (including a pair of Contour 4 ) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: SB3 + powered Fostex PM0.4 Miscellaneous use: Radio (with battery) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to control this Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78465 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox randomly drops station
well, like i said earlier, its interesting to me that all the focus was being put on the sonicwall, when you can listen to the same stream on winamp just fine. some people tend to focus on shifting blame from all things slim, no matter what. thats unfortunate, since it doesn't help improve slim. still, that does not mean that it isn't possible that there may be something about your setup that somehow, for some reason, adversely affects slim and not winamp, and you should try to eliminate any such possibilities, and its not unreasonable for others to try to help you do that. but when doing so, one should keep an open mind that its not only possible, but probable the problem does in fact, lie with slim. so anyway, have you tried setting up SBS behind the sonicwall and forcing it to proxy the stream with a 30sec buffer? We were discussing in another thread that there probably won't be new devices for a while because most the of the developers are no longer at Logitech, but I'd really like to see the server stabilize and the Touch live up to its potential. My biggest obstacle in recommending Squeezebox at this point is lack of stability and frequent changes in UI that have characterized the past couple of server releases. Re: [slim] Squeezebox randomly drops station
my understanding is the default way internet radio works is that regardless of how you start the connection, ultimately it becomes a direct connection between the hardware and the internet source of the stream. b/c i was complaining to Andy, he did put in a feature in SBS where you can force SBS to "proxy" the stream, supposedly making it more reliable. i think it does, but not enough. its what SBS does by default when two or more pieces of hardware are sync'd. in addition, in both the hardware and software, you can up the buffer times to 30 seconds i think. in my exp, no matter what you do with slim configs, winamp is far more robust and reliable. http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3161 -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbr (parent's home) - sbs 7.5b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - p4(ht) 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 - 40k+ mp3 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78019 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] What product you'd like to see next
I would like to see continued progress to improve sound quality (as was done with Touch) and improve the user experience. Some of what I would like might run counter to some of the other comments made. I think simplifying and reducing customization options, streamlining menu trees, cleaning up the more troublesome and nagging software problems, etc., will make the products more broadly attractive. And more successful. I think the days of courting former Heathkit customers are long gone, there just aren't enough of you guys around to warrant the attention. I'm concerned whether anyone's wish list will be achieved, given the staffing reductions and turnover. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78465 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPod + iPeng, which iPod?
Hmm, I got confused. My library is a lot of files, organized in folders, which are nested. It happens sometimes there is a folder with tracks and other folders inside. This is because it's classical music and any tagging doesn't really work. Will this work then for me? What I want is browsing the collection and be able to "play" or "add" on any item - folder or file. Just like in SC. I don't need cover art that much (although would be nice), and don't need any album behaviour. I have SC configured in a way it plays a single track only, if I play/add on a track. I'm just one step from buying an ipod, I really hope the answer is "yes" :) Cheers -- azaz44 azaz44's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78531 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
