[slim] Deleting "Random 100" radio stations?
I happen to save "Random 100", and now I cant delete it again. Ah, excellent. Is it possible to choose a gain setting that is then the reference for all music? Lets say, I have Dire Straits "On Every Street", which is really punchy with good volume, and this is shown as -10,5db i ITunes.just a thought, because I really cant relate to the gain settings in ITunes, it seems to not make sense. I would assume -3,4db should be louder sounding than -10,5 but it doesnt seem to be so. So, I need to download Foobar, transfer the music to that, replay gain scan etc., but, what then happens to the library in ITunes where SqueezeCenter get the music from? Hmm, dont know. When I scroll to a song with the remote, go right, and then down I get artist, year, file size etc., and gain, for instance -10,7 db. Isnt it tagged then? Having a problem, tried smart gain, album gain and track gain, and there is still large differencies between tracks. for instance Dire Straits is pretty loud, and Eric Clapton way down low. Use Random mix quite a bit, thats why its a bit annoying. Use Inguz at -17db. I might say something stupid here, but then enlighten med if there is something I missed. Unfortunately I am not into all the plugins, gadgets, shortcuts, whatever I really like the SB3, and ITunes. But, I am a little put off by the SB3 original remote, and the small screen of SB3. I love the ITunes layout on the computer, everything is so perfect, browsing for music is a breeze, have to admit I seldom browse for music with the SB3 remote I do not buy anything from the ITunes store. [slim] A file too much after scan.
A bit puzzling to me. I wanted to play J.J.Cale tonight and went to Genre, Rock and J.J.Cale and pressed play. It played one song only. Okay, started it again, only one song played. Investigation revealed one song showing up as an own album, but wrong disc no. The song is the last on disc 1, here it showed as disc 2. Disc 1 and 2 are both in the library, including the mentioned song. I searched ITunes, and the single song is not there. I also searched the computer for J.J.Cale files but nothing came up, why I dont know. Well, can just add, that with this page open, and SqueezeCenter running and music transmitting wirelessly my computer runs a steady 602 MB usage in memory. I have upgraded to 2GB a year ago. Not entirely sure this is the same, but I filed a bug concerning static noise on 24/96 flac with SB3 and SqueezeCenter. This worked perfectly on SlimServer 6.5.3. The problem is resolved, I am just waiting for an explanation. Because I am not sure is because I do not use flac normally, all my music is AppleLossless, and then a wav 24/44.1 download. Yes, I found that, thank you, but in Network healt in Slimserver you would then have on top a streaming test where you could choose kbps and then see how many percent the network copes with. i dont find this test in Network helat in SqueezeCenter. maybe you are right that its a plugin, just didnt see it anywhere. I use a bryston dac , which upsamples, and I really dont need 24/96 since the vast majority of my music is 16/44.1 When you download 24/88 or thos 24/96 files from the internet that are playable on the SB3 I think I benefit more from the care taken in the recording event, not especially the 24/96 or whatever recording technique. I didnt buy it yet, but I think the new remote is a clever, and overdue move. Having the display on the remote makes finding music easier, I fumble quite a bit with the little display on the SB3, and frankly, there is a lot of times where I choose music from SlimServer instead. Ever since the Sonos came out we have been waiting for this remote, looking forward to see user feedback. I have 6 other wireless sources in my building and never had any problems. I use wpa security on my SB3 and router. I have hooked the "wi-fi radio" option in the router, but otherwise it runs standard, no firewall or anything. Sorry, didnt know where to put this, but I tried updating the mix in Partymix. The funny thing is that only the last 6 songs is changed to new songs every time, not the 8 first songs. I tried now 8 times, same result. I read a thread about something I needed since I was using Itunes, but this was maybe when using the "Most Popular" or "Last played" or whatever its called. Anyway, yes, I can add songs to an existing playlist. "Car 4" extends with the songs I click "Add" to, but, I then "Save" the new playlist in SlimServer, and scans the library, and its not there.? Yes, the SB3 is very awkward for this kind of use, you can spend a lot of time finding songs and add them to the playlist, so called "party mode", but its difficult with the remote and that little display. I at at a loss. When I press play the SB3 says "adding to playlist", but what playlist ? I had the playlist playing just now, and it added the tracks to an existing playlist, but went to check with SlimServer, and on the right side it showed the tracks that were added to the playlist, but I couldnt figure out which playlist it was added to., went back to SB3 to scoll, and now its lost, I just cant find it. I listen to HAPPYDAY most every day, and its the only radio station, as far as I know, that re-buffers very often, sometimes every 20 seconds ! Why is this ? I have mentioned this quite some times now, didnt get much explanation. And, yes, both at SqueezeNetwork and SS, and yes, I have increased the buffer, without any change. Well, my problems are with radio. "Connection Timed Out" it says, and the SB3 stops responding to the remote, and freezes. I actually always use the same radio station, "Happyday" its called. Upgrading firmware to the router is a must do ! I couldnt make my D-Link 4300 work before upgrading the firmware. Dont know what is wrong but I have the same issues and it drives me crazy. Came home from vacation yesterday, turned it on, many radio stations say Untimed Connection or something like that, and No Items In Playlist. The player shuts itself down, do not respond, plugging it in and out helps, but this is very annoying. I dont know what Ubuntu is Anyway, I seem to have a little problem, it developed lately. On the wake-up function, when my computer after 15 minuttes goes into "waiting mode", then the SB3 looses signal from SqueezeNetwork and the player shuts down sometimes. My internet takes one closing down and re-opening before functioning normal also, so its probably a router problem. Nobody seems to take this serious, a bit strange there is not more users with the same problem. It states in the info on the SB3 that it has "full 6.0V" analog out. Dont know what they mean with "full" because my Philips dvd963SA , with 2V out on the analog plays A LOT LOUDER than the SB3.. jlrood, I know exactly what you mean, when I listen with headphones for instance via my Bryston, the level at 11.00 with the Philips equals that of 15.00 with the SB3. Well, you will find lots of threads with this problem. I had it also, until I updated the firmware for the router I also had problems when the router was set on mac filtering the SB3, then the router crashed all the time, but this was before firmware upgrade. I didnt engage the mac filtering again however. I use WEP personal security. Did you put in the port exceptions on both the router and the Norton ? When it plays, do the SB3 react on the remote ? Yes, sorry, unfortunately I dont have much time to "fool around" with the tags, so I get impatient. Anyway, I read up on the bug, and after a bit of experimenting I deleted all the albums from this artist, and ripped them again. I then removed the composer tag, and it seems to work, hurrahhh... What I didnt realize was that in ITunes, when removing a tag you have to mark the composer name, press delete, then the box for Composer gets ticked, and you click okay. This way the tag is removed. I tried to untick the box, remove the composer name by removing the name, click okay, that didnt work, and I didnt get it. I have the same problem, I thought everything was fine with 6.5.1, and I upgraded with 6.5.2 and firmware 80 but I cannot say thats when the problems began... I have artists showing up in Album and Artist but not in Genre, albums were listed twice, some files under "rock" , like J.J. Cale, are actually empty on the SB3 although the albums are in SlimServer under J.J.Cale, and yes, it is tagged with "Rock"... Everything works like a charm in ITunes, no problems there, it begins to get confusing when SS takes over the show. Someone suggested you should not use the "scan the library for new music" but rather once in a while use "clear library and scan again", but I dont know, I did that. Albums wre not double listed but other problems came. Can I ask you, when using mp3tag, when it scans the music and the machine have written tags, are these automatically stored in ITunes then or do you need to do something ? I saved the file with all my music when I was done doing some tags updates, this was stored as a zip file in my documents. I have been against using mp3tag simply because I had confidence in ITunes. In the ITunes library everything works perfect, but in SlimServer it gets messed up. But yes, guess there is no way around the extra work. There is a lot going on I dont understand. First of all, I think a lot of tags are "hidden" in ITunes and are not normally visible. Just a hunch, I see info on the display of SB3 and I wonder where its coming from... I am just about to loose my patience with SlimServer, but hey, its only data, and data must be correct, right ? I got albums showing up twice all of the sudden, one of them ussually was missing the first song Then I upgraded SS to 6.5.2 and SB3 to 80, scanned the whole thing again, and now I have albums I cant find ! Under "rock" there are several albums not showing, even when they show as "rock" under artists and album search. J.J.Cale has his name there, but the folder is empty, 0 songs by 0 artists. Same with Chris Rea and others. Its a bit mindboggling trying to remember with which artists you have to search by album or artist, not by genre ! My Elvis Presley 24 Karat Hits WANTS to stay in "Various Artists", I cant persuade it otherwise, and one of my Mark Knopfler albums, Golden Heart I absolutely cannot force out of a "No Genre" folder, extremely irritating. Luckily it also figures in "rock" where it only should be... In your power management on your computer you can decide how long it shall remain awake, and if its not allowed at all to go to sleep. I just saw another SB3 owners remote, it was backlighted ! Can this be purchased separately ? There seems to be some packing problems, I ordered a black SB3, it looked black on the box, it said on the box it was black, the remote was black, but the SB3 itself was silver/black. I had a lot of troubles also, untill I updated the firmware to my brand new router. But, what happened is maybe that when you reset your router, then the router will assign a new IP address to the SB3. This can be a hassle when you have to reset the router a few times because of problems, the IP will change every time , so look at these and put the right IP for the SB3 in the router, and in SlimServer. You say that it can connect, but not to the internet, so you must look closely at the settings in the router, and allow everything that has to do with the ports it needs, and the SlimServer name, but of course you did this already... Just downloaded 6.5.2, and firmware 80. Wonder what SS is doing, before my computer would go into sleep mode after 15 minutes, and a touch of the SB3 remote would wake it up. Really strange. Normally, when the album is up in ITunes, if one ticks all songs, right click, then ITunes ask if you want to edit all the songs. click yes and a frame comes up with info , and a little window for the picture. When you glue a picture in here and click ok ITunes will transfer this picture to each track and it takes a little while for it to do so. This it just wont do with Brothers In Arms and A Day Without Rain and I just dont get it why not. Not really sure what you want me to do, cant find the items under what you mention. I find under Program Files "SS" ,and in there I find the pref file, deleted that, but couldnt find the other one. Found something similar in the SQL folder, deleted that one, but SS wont start again. Its been trying 10 minuttes now and cannot do anything about it now, right click do not work, so I will try restart my computer. Thank you. When I look at the Gallery Mode in SlimServer, only half of the album artwork is shown, why is this ?
