Not really worth it, I've not exactly changed much this way, my local backup is still to the WD Drive, I will just sync via shares to the QNAP USB rather than direct to my PC. WHS has plenty of space too and I would be scratching around on the QNAP (single drive version) as the 3TB there is pretty full of DVDs etc. I just get an automatic copy of the WD drive up to Amazon without thinking about it now. Re: [slim] Large Backups on a Cloud
Wow, talk about long winded. I wanted a set and forget style backup for this, been looking for reasonable cloud for a while. I've 1TB OneDrive from MS through work, 500GB BT cloud with my broadband but £55 for unlimited Amazon Cloud gets the nod. Just spent 2 days playing with various applications to get it there, boy do most blow chunks. My music is only about 900GB but it sits on my Proliant Microserver running WHS 2011. Therein lies the issue, I tried Odrive but it was dreadful, was about to download cloudberry backup but again looked a messy solution. I've a QNAP NAS which I use for my media server and although I don't use it for Squeeze (need Intel for MuicIP and Sugarcube) I came up with an ingenuous plan. 1. Download the Hybrid Cloud Backup app for QNAS which does 1 or 2-way sync direct into the Cloud Drive (using for home photo/video backup to Amazon) 2. Plugged my current Backup Music Drive (stand alone USB 2TB WD Drive) directly into the QNAP and it automatically shares as an External USB Drive 3. Setup a second cloud one-way sync job from the QNAP to Amazon for all the music files on the WD USB Drive which is now running happily away through the 900GB 4. I can then amend my SyncToy job that was my backup for my music files to send to the new Shared QNAS drive over the network, so pretty much a double backup, local and cloud. Not bad for £55 a year, plus the added bonus that if I am working away I can get to my music files on a adhoc basis, although spotify sort of negates this these days. Happy Days and thanks to the OP for the heads up. Bit late to the party but I like a bit of something for nothing (well I had prime anyway and never noticed the music). I have a multitude of amazon devices for the video service the main one being the amazon fire TV which is hooked up to my amp so can use prime music there, my hole is in the kitchen where my boom lives? [slim] Still Love My Squeeze But Hardly Use Logitech Kit Now
While I still love Squeezebox and LMS, as the title suggests I don't really use the squeezebox kit. I mainly listen while I work on my home office PC running LMS using Local Player. Decent sound-card and decent 2.1 speakers. My daughter has claimed the Boom, and while she loves it, it pains me the amount of One Direction it now plays :o My Receiver has been playing up, it drops its settings far too often and while it can be recovered its a bit of a pain because I don't have the logitech remote, I was a cheapskate when I got it and configured using tools in the forum. So my downstairs listening tends to be via my iphone running ipeng to a nice Sony Bluetooth Speaker I got for Christmas. I think its only the third party pluggins that are keeping me here to be honest. I just could not live without Sugarcube Spicefly and Smartmix, not to mention the millions of rated songs I have with Erlands great plugins. Isn't it funny how things change. Re: [slim] SBS looking at multiple folders?
There are loads of things that could bring the duplicates into play? If you have a shortcut in the Flac folder to the MP3 folder it will scan them too? Also do you have any playlists linking the MP3 files? These will also add them to the library. Also have you got iTunes integration turned on? This will also bring the MP3 files in. There are probably other reasons too. You will need to look hard at your library to see how the scan is referencing the MP3s. When I started with Squeeze it took me a couple of months to sort out my library structure to prevent Flac and MP3 duplicates. -- Blisteringblue 'What am I listening to?' I quote: epoch1970;653585 Wrote: Words of advice for the next steps: 1) analysis; - In the slimdevices wiki page there is a case for using genpuid to analyze files. genpuid can archive its findings within the tags of music files, which seems a good idea since analysis is such a long process. I'd recommend against this. I had genpuid destroy some of my tags, and also version issues between MIP and genpuid. Just leave genpuid alone, go to http://localhost:10002, enter the path to your music files and have MIP discover and analyse the files. There is one thing you might want to do: specify the location for the MIP database (in mmm.ini), and backup that file from time to time. As an example, this is what I have specified in mmm.ini: cache=/var/data/audio/MusicIP/default.m3lib - Moving music files (or directories) around means a slow analysis must be performed again (since archiving within tags is risky). You'd better be pleased with your file hierarchy beforehand. - Re-analysis of moved files means the MIP DB will show a duplicate. There is a sorry way of removing duplicates (or deleted files) using MIPs web interface. I think it entails clicking add music (sic) and then refresh songs. Or the other way around. The Total Songs figure should decrease in the end. (The brute force way is to remove the MIP database file.) - Don't click Add Music without having filled the path field next to it. If you leave it empty MIP does not look for the library path it already has in its database. It simply says nothing and does nothing. Don't go wrong specifying the path or you'll add fluff to the MIP database... Hopefully web browsers will auto-complete the field for you. Re: [slim] No more free last.fm on the SB!
It is worth pointing out the subscription is only to play via devices such as squeezebox, if you want to listen to recommended music via the webclient then it will continue to be free. However when looking into the subscription details I was amused at one of their selling points. You get a prestigious black dot above your username Come on guys, that is a BLACK DOT we are talking about here, surely worth the subscription in itself :-) -- Blisteringblue 'What am I listening to?' Loving the new 1.3 beta. I've had to rename a few files so my program shortcuts pick up the new version but it just gets better and better. Hi Sebastian, Any news on 1.22 version currently listed on the website? Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?
Personally I use my Playstation 3 for all my video streaming. It plays most formats natively and for those it doesn't (mainly MKV) I use Playstation Media Server (http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/) running on my PC along to transcode on the fly. My PC is on all the time (well it powers down with WOL) for Squeezecenter (SBS) so I find they all compliment each other. -- Blisteringblue 'What am I listening to?' Re: [slim] Getting Smartserver to see my iTunes playlists
I use the following to turn my iTunes Genius playlists into M3U playlists that I can play on my Boom. http://www.ericdaugherty.com/dev/itunesexport/ It is basically a GUI interface that strips the XML from an iTunes playlist and saves it as an M3U. Has options to not bother putting DRM tracks into the M3U. I don't use the iTunes integration in SqueezeCenter as it would introduce mp3 and flac duplicates into my library.
