[slim] Install woes Jammy Jellyfish

2022-11-08 Thread pkfox

Hi guys following an issue with LMS not starting due to /var/log being
100% used I decided to start afresh and replace the OS on my SBC with
Jammy Jellyfish ( complete wipe and reflash ) all is cool except LMS
install is giving me errors. I downloaded the latest nightly and
installed with dpkg - I was told there were unmet dependencies and the
install failed - I resolved these by running apt -f install. But when I
checked the status of LMS with

systemctl status logitechmediaserver.service
I see this

Code:

If you're running some unsupported Linux/Unix platform, please use the
buildme.sh

time you read this, Replace "8.3" with the major version

this if you're on Windows or Mac OSX. If the installers
  Nov 08 15:16:32 M4V201 squeezeboxserver[13233]: don't work for you, ask for
help and/or report a bug.

which doesn't mean much to me - any ideas guys ? It looks like it's perl
related but...

[slim] Server won't start

2022-11-07 Thread pkfox

Hi all, I have had LMS running on a Linux SBC for years without any
problems, I recently noticed the server had stopped and running
systemctl status logitechmediaserver.service from a terminal gives me
this

Cannot write to '/var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log': No space left on
device at /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/Log/Log4perl/Appender/File.pm
line 241.
and the server doesn't start

running df -h confirms /var/log is 100% full ( I removed other output
for clarity )

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/zram1 49M 45M 0 100% /var/log

There are no large files in /var/log - any ideas guys ?

Allegedly it implicitly disables the USB input of the MScaler thus
reducing noise, it also allows you to use a BNC cable to reduce the
significant RF noise generated by the MScaler

Too give you a bit more detailed information about my setup
Both LMS and SqueezeLite are run on the NUC
All my flacs are 44.1
All I've done with ALSA is adjusted the volume
The problem isn't predictable.

Hi Rob,
thanks once again for your help, I have made some progress, I replaced
the NUC as the music source, with one of my NanopiM4 SBC boards,
installed LMS and Squeezlite on it - fired it up and SUCCESS NOT ONE
JUMP !!! , so I concluded it must be the USB on the NUC causing the
problem. Reinstated the NUC as the music source but this time I used a
different USB port ( there are two on it ) and bingo it didn't jump once
- It must be a dodgy usb port - thanks again for all your help it's much
appreciated

Hi there glad to hear it's still being used, it all started out as a

uses, then it evolved into talking directly to the API as your devices
do

[slim] Transporter for sale

2020-09-03 Thread pkfox

Hi all, I have one of the original black SlimDevices Transporters which
I no longer use as I've built an SBC with an outboard DAC as a player /
server. It's in as new condition and works perfectly - I'm in the UK and
the buyer would have to collect it as I'd be very nervous about posting
it. Apologies if this is the wrong part of the forum but i don't really
know where to advertise it. I'm open to sensible offers.

No it didn't - what I've done now is - remove the three locking rings
and washers, fit the front metal plate, put the plastic plate over the
connectors and replace the three locking rings and washers - it looks
much better now as the bulge has dissappeared. Thanks for your help.

Roughly 5mm - also there's a bit of plastic in the kit which looks like
it should fit over the connectors but I couldn't see why it's needed or
where to put it so I left it off - let me know how you get on with it (

sound from it - I have LMS running on a Ras Pi3b+ with Squeezelite as a

Khadas but I don't know how

Are you saying the LMS server is running on your NAS ? also I can't see
why your hard drives are working so hard as the API in LMS ( which is
how Documenter talks to LMS ) is just issuing call's to the database and
shouldn't cause much disk activity.

> I call my Juke Box!

Sounds like a pretty cool setup - one thing you didn't mention is what
your music files sit on - this can affect scan time big time. I have
mine on a M2 SSD and scan time is 2 or 3 minutes. You can get an M2 to
USB caddy and plug it in to the pi - another thing to keep in mind with
pi's is the power supply ( get a good one ) and get a good quality
powered USB hub for any accessories ( like an external drive ).

The ReadyNAS I had had a Web interface with options to turn services on

Glad you're sorted out - useful information about expanding the file
system on a pi - I don't know why more people don't use this setup - do
you stream from the pi to a hifi amp ? I have a hifiberry DAC hat on my
pi which has analogue outputs connected to my amp - works perfectly and
the sound quality is a match for my Transporter

Thanks Viragored, I've implemented showing the artist only once - I'm
constantly tweaking the program so it's worth downloading every now and
then - I'll start to include a Readme file in the zip which will list
recent changes. Have fun.

Re: [slim] LMS Documenter Part II

2020-07-16 Thread pkfox

Hi all, some of you with very large collection were experiencing
timeouts / crashes when the program was scanning your music library -
I've attempted to rewrite the load code to run asynchronously and
believe It may help - I can't really test it properly as my collection
only has about 5500 tracks with 300 or so albums but mine loads in under
15 seconds. Can those of you having issues please download it and try it
out. I'm also taking things like the delay bar away to try and keep
everything as simple as possible. I would also like your opinions on
whether to remove the scan for servers function as I imagine most of you
enter it manually now ( I do ). Let me know how you get on.

I get the feeling that people that are using the Documenter put the
resultant pdf on their mobile devices for reference. Please tell me what
you use it for - it will help me decide what I should focus on in the
future development of the program.

Hi carp thanks for sending me more information I think it's the size of
your collection that's making it timeout. I'm looking at ways to get the
data in chunks instead of all at once and will let you know as soon as
I've worked something out.

Hi All, just to let you know as some of you have asked for it, you can
now create a pdf of of your albums ( grouped by artist so you can find
things quickly ) only. Check the Album List check box before you click
the Generate PDF button ( obviously you first have to connect to your
server and scan the music library as usual ) you can enter a font size I
find 15 is good for me.

Re: [slim] LMS Documenter Part II

2020-07-10 Thread pkfox

Just to update you know why the server discovery doesn't work when the
server is on the same box as the Documenter.

It's because you can't have two processes listening on the same ip
address/port combination. The way LMS works is, it listens for client
requests on UDP port 3483 and returns what they call a response packet
back to any client requests, the response packet contains the port
number and other stuff neccesary for a connection. But if the client is
running on the same box as the server there is a conflict because you
end up with two identical ip/port combinations. So if you have this
local setup you have to enter it manually. Personally I have a raspberry
pi fitted with a HiFiBerry DAC and an external drive for my music
running 24/7 on my LAN - it's pretty easy to setup and sounds amazing
through my Meridian setup. There's plenty on here that explains how to
set this up.
