Re: [slim] Squeezebox remote control problem

2011-08-20 Thread rbz5416

Look at the remote's LED through a digital camera. You should see the
LED glow on the camera's screen when you press a button. If it doesn't
glow, try wiggling the batteries & the LED & see if it does. Chances
are it's just a duff connection on either the battery terminals or the
LED itself. Both easily rectified with basic soldering skills.

How are you searching ?

For me 'squeezebox' brings up all iPad and iPhone Apps and there a
plenty in the meantime.
Two of the best have been mentioned already, but I'm biased :D

Which of both you like most is just taste I guess.

The iPad is currently the best remote control available for the
Squeezebox including anything produced by Logitech, you just need to

[slim] Squeezebox remote app for iPad

2010-11-02 Thread jaysrin

I am tired of trying to get in touch with Logitech regarding a
replacement remote for my Squeezebox. The many emails I've sent them in
the past 2 years have elicited no response and I do not see myself ever
buying a Logitech product in the future. The former Slimdevices company
was a lot more attentive.

However, I do already have a Squeezebox and this has been lying unused.
As the box is hooked to a stereo system, I figured it would still be
worthwhile to explore alternatives to control the box. I have searched
in the Apple iPad app store for a Squeezebox remote app for the iPad,
without success.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks.

See the Nokia 800 or 900. If you're willing, the Nokia 770.

I've used the 770 for a long time to view (properly encoded) movies on

Not only wifi phones, but also non-phone devices like the iPod Touch. I
think that Logitech would have a hard time coming (late) to market with
a single-purpose device that would likely cost more than multipurpose
devices. Look at the cost of the Harmony remotes, which have the
touchscreen but don't do wifi. I haven't been following the Logitech
Revue developments, but even that new remote (Harmony Link) seems
IR-based rather than wifi. The blog post by a Logitech VP saying -"If
you have a device that uses a remote control, chances are that it uses
IR."- also makes me think Logi's not going to be pushing new wifi
remotes soon, touchscreen or otherwise. (see
http://blog.logitech.com/2010/06/04/a-peek-under-the-hood-google-tv-and-logitech-harmony-link/)

A little further from "home", not long ago Sonos introduced a
single-purpose remote that fits your description and also released a
free iPhone app. I'd love to know which of those is more popular among
Sonos users.

My point is that it would be cool to have a Touch Screen remote the size
of the Touch or bigger that you could put any where in your house or
have it with you in your listening position. I use my Touch as a
source for my whole house sound and as a source for my main rig.

I think it is a natural, more user friendly evolution from the current
Duet controller. I know you can use wifi phones to do this but I don't
have one and to me it makes sense for Squeezebox to make this sort of
remote for their product.

Again just thinking out loud.

Flattermann,

I think that it should be a squeezebox product rather than a third
party. Essentially a duet with a touchscreen remote and it would be
cool if you could output video to your display (like apple TV) to show
what was playing and possibly handle video's, movies etc.

[slim] Squeezebox Remote

2010-07-18 Thread millerlitescott

I was sitting last night listening to my Touch on my main system
thinking about how I would like my Squeezebox Touch to work with my
life style.

I think that there should be a battery powered remote with the touch
screen capabilities of the Touch and the size (or bigger) of the Touch
as the wifi remote for a duet style component box that housed all the
workings of the Touch. It would also be nice if the box was able to
put out video to a display if available. This way you could use it at
the listening position or in the backyard as long as your wifi signal
was strong enough to control the unit. It could be a nice feature at a
party where everyone has access to the music available on the host's
computer or wifi system.

Just think out loud.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Remote - "Please Wait"

2009-12-16 Thread Skinny

Hello!

Yes, the Controller (or SBC for SqueezeBox Controller as it is more
familiarly known on the Forum) does go into suspended mode and usually
takes a while to recover. You can disable this by going to
Settings->Advanced->Factory Test->Power management. Here you can set the
Sleep and Suspend timeout somewhat longer than default. The values are
seconds, so the maximum Suspend timeout is one hour. It's even possible
to disable Suspend altogether. Be aware that the battery will run flat
if you leave the Controller outside of the cradle with Suspend
disabled.

I'd guess most Duet users here have tweaked these settings to get the
Controller into an usable state. What you experienced and described
clearly isn't quite that.

Server performance doesn't affect this behaviour.

I'm sure you'll grow to love the SqueezeBox!

A power saving feature in the remote (controller) is that it will sleep
after a certain amount of time. This is what is happening.

If it is sleeping too quickly for you or if you rather it didn't sleep
at all, you can change it in the controller settings.

I don't have a controller in front of me so I can't tell you how to
naviate to the change.

[slim] Squeezebox Remote - "Please Wait"

2009-12-16 Thread jdjespersen

Hi people,

I just bought a Squeezebox Duet, and store my music on a Synology
DS210j NAS box.

Whenever I pick up my remote (after leaving it down for a while) the
diplay says "Please Wait" for about 60-90 seconds, before I can start
navigating the menus.

Why??

I have tried running Squeezebox Server on a (fast!) PC, and it did not
help any. (I was afraid my Synology was maybe too slow).

I am running on a wide open wireless network, reception is fine on the
remote, around 70-80%.

So I'm wondering why the long "wakeup" period. Any ideas for tuning
or tweaking my setup?

Thanks,

If you are certain it is dead you may as well pry it open and check the
solder connections.
A common issue with the SB3 remotes is that the solder connections of
the "eye" that sends the IR commands can become loose or broken if
dropped.

You have nothing to lose if it is truly DEAD! :)

[slim] Squeezebox remote to change the channel on DVB-S satellite radio card?

2008-10-12 Thread Skye

Does anyone have suggestions as to how I might arrange to have the
Squeezebox remote change the channel on my DVB-S satellite radio card?
Current setup:
I’ve a Technisat SkyStar 2 PCI card with DVBviewer that sits in the PC
running WHS and SqueezeCenter 7.2.
Selecting the WaveInput plugin via a favourite, I can listen to the
satellite radio stations on the Squeezebox. This works well and has
been a solid setup for some months now. The problem comes when I want
to select a different radio station from the DVBviewer favourites list.

Right now I’m using the embarrassingly clunky method of the Technisat
remote, an IR extender (Powermid XL) and WinLIRC. It works, more or
less, but only from one Squeezebox location.
There must be a better way. I’m guessing that the IR codes that
SqueezeCenter receives could be routed somehow to WinLIRC or directly
to DVBviewer – but how?

[slim] Squeezebox remote wanted

2008-08-30 Thread JoeHartley

Somehow along the way, probably during a big cleaning, we managed to
lose the remote for our Squeezebox (v1).

We get along OK by pulling the cord if we need to power-cycle it, and
we get some functionality out of the TV multiremote by using a JVC
command set on the AUX device, but it's still a pain, since we don't
have the TV in the same room as the Squeezebox.

If anyone's got a remote for a Squeezebox kicking around, please drop
me a line, and we'll see what can be worked out.

Thanks!

It is selected. I even unselected it and then re-selected it to see if
that would help. Still didn't work.

Check Settings/Players/Remote and make sure Slim_devices is selected.

Hi All,

Is there a document which details shortcuts which can be used from the
remote control? Things like how to cue the next song etc etc.
Many thanks.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox remote also controlling DVD player!

Obviously this is some kind of conflict on the IR codes, but I'm

I had a similar problem with a crappy chinese brand player. I ended
up just getting a newer $75 player from Toshiba instead.

You have a choice of JVC DVD or Slim Devices codes in the player
settings. If you disable the Slim Devices remote, then you'll need a
universal remote set to use a JVC DVD codeset. The hold brightness
firmware update will still work, as those IR codes are embedded in the
firmware.

[slim] Squeezebox remote also controlling DVD player!

2006-08-18 Thread Falcon

So at first this was kind of funny, but now it's definitely annoying :)

When I press certain buttons on my Squeeze remote (specifically, volume
controls and "Play" button) it causes the drawer on my DVD player to
open and close with every press!

Obviously this is some kind of conflict on the IR codes, but I'm
wondering if there's anything I can do about it. Is there any way to
choose a different set of codes for the Squeeze remote?

Thanks!
-Steve

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Remote Control Question

Hi - I am trying to program a third party remote (onkyo) to use to control
basic functions of the SB remtoe. I have tried the JVC DVD code 0623 and
the Squeezebox code 0533 and neither work. Can anyone tell me if these are
the correct codes? i have only seen them referenced in other posts but could
not find them in the faq or other documentation.

The code for the old sony remote was 0700 (I think), but that is likely
not directly related to any numbers that Onkyo decides to assign to
their device library. If those are the only codes given in your
manual for JVC DVD's, then that remote may not be able to support
squeezebox. Does it have learning capabilities?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Remote Control Question

2006-01-30 Thread Mark Lanctot
Not having an Onkyo remote I can't say. But make
sure the JVC DVD player remote codes are being
used through SlimServer by going to Player
Settings - Remote and making sure the jvc_dvd box
is checked. However, this is its default setting,
so that may not help.

Does the remote have a learning capability?
That's the only other option and one that I had to
use for my Marantz RC1400 (incidentally, it's not
because the code wouldn't work, it's because the
DVD player input was already being used and that
manufacturer code could not be applied to other
inputs).

[slim] Squeezebox Remote Control Question

2006-01-30 Thread Charles Stanton

Hi - I am trying to program a third party remote (onkyo) to use to control basic functions of the SB remtoe.   I have tried the JVC DVD code 0623 and the Squeezebox code 0533 and neither work. Can anyone tell me if these are the correct
codes? i have only seen them referenced in other posts but could not find them in the faq or other documentation.

I have checked player settings and both these remotes are checked under the 'remote' section.    I am using 6.2.1 with the latest Squuezebox. Any suggestions? Thanks!
