Did you read or search for all the other threads on the subject of
international pricing of the Transporter? It's been thoroughly
discussed. Or perhaps you have a new perspective on the topic?

You can buy it in Sydney for around $2500 AUD, mail order too.

I purchased my Bel Canto Pre3 from there, highly recommended service
and product knowledge.

dollar is nearly on par with the US dollar, so it seems someone is
making a pretty hefty mark up on the price in Australia, even allowing
 for shipping.
 Anyone like to comment?

That awkward bit of prose is courtesy of the Logitech corporate web
team. Transporters are still available from a range of dealers, around

What the text should have said was:

-Clicking this buy button (the one here on www.logitech.com) will send

For reasons related to the internals of Logitech, and therefore not
available for public discussion, we haven't integrated their e-commerce

Re: [slim] Transporter Price

2007-09-06 Thread ntom

I din't kick off this post with the intention of focussing on value,
only to note the apparent price rises in the UK.

As you say taxes have not risen in the last year but the exchange rate
has moved in sterling's favour with respect to US purchases.

having said that, doing a search today, the only UK prices I can
find are back to £1300 so maybe it was a few vendors hoping to make a
quick profit£1300 at least makes it comparable when VAT duty are
considered (to a $2000 US).

As someone else stated in an earlier thread.a £999 price tag would
make it much more attractive in UK. A UK price difference of £1100 on
the SB3 would pay for a pretty good hi-end DAC

Oh wellI guess I should have bought at the beginning when the free
SB3 was thrown in!!

Re: [slim] Transporter Price

2007-08-31 Thread MikeFish

I don't think the taxes etc have anything to do with it as since it was
released it was available here for £1300 everywhere and that included
the free SB3. After a while the free SB3 deal went but prices were
still £1300. It was only after the Logitech deal that prices rose to
£1700. Tax hasn't gone up in the last year (I don't think anyway) and
if it did it would not make the price rise by 30%

Also I think it's a bit unfair to the guys at Slim for saying that they
released a product that didn't work or wasn't ready and to suggest that
they hadn't tested it is completely silly. The digital input problem
only started when FW31 was introduced, long after the Transporter was
first released.

I tried the Transporter under their 30 day offer and just couldn't
justify the $2,000 price tag so returned it. But as someone else noted
above, at $1,500 it would have been a keeper.

Heck, even now that I'm all settled in with my SB3 and Lavry DA-10, I'd
still be real tempted by a $1,500 tag.

Guess that's the old bugaboo in pricing high-end products. It isn't
easy to pick that point between maintaining elite snobbishness and the
higher volume that comes from a lower price. In my case, $2K was just
enough the trip the circuit breaker on my snob limit switch.

I do think TP should be cheaper in Europe but some of the price is due

The real shame is that for the price the transporter isn't perfect and
not even close to it as a review quoted on the slimdevices homepage
suggests. It's not even ready for sales!!! Switching from the digital
inputs to SS again renders the TP completely silent! I know that the
bug is being tracked. But I want to see renouned hifi companys deliver
a product not being ready.
Don't get me wrong! I love slimserver and thsu just had to get a
transporter even knowning that this and perhaps other bugs exist but
switching to or from digital inputs is not an exotic scenario for a dac
surpassing even the most exotic cd players.
Didn't you test? Didn't you even try it? I mean how the hell could one
have over looked such behavior of even a prototype? I really respect
the work of engeneering put into the unit but having paid 2,000 Euro
for it I think I am in the position to kintly ask you to make your
homework asap. Currently running fw 31. Very happy 99% of the time

Re: [slim] Transporter Price

2007-08-19 Thread funkstar

The cost of things, especially specialist luxury items like the
Transporter are higher in the UK (and the rest of Europe to a certain
extent) because of the following reasons compared to the US:
Taxes are higher (VAT)
Taxes are higher (company tax)
The cost of business is generally higher (Wages, rents, electricity,
etc)
The US is less afluent at the moment

And here is the killer point: The transporter can be sold at 1700,
because thats what the market values it at. If no-one buys it at that
price, then it will be reduced to the point it does sell.

Lots of places have strange markup do to customs taxes, VAT, exchange
rates, etc.

I've bought stuff for friends in down under, plugged it in so I know it
is USED, and ship it.

You (the receiver) are still liable for duties, etc.

It always amazes me that for a lot of consumer stuff, the UK price in
pounds is the same as the US price in dollars. Since the pound is worth
about two bucks each, thats a lot of markup.

I remember walking down the streets in Den Haag (The Hague) and seeing
Bass Weeguns in a shop window for three times what they cost here. My US
citizen friends working on assignment in Europe would use their trips to
corporate headquarters for serious shopping trips.

If it's true, perhaps it's a reaction to not being expensive enough
for true hifi buffs? :-)

ALL thoughts I had of buying one would go out the window at £1700.

Given how the exchange rate has gone, it would be completely
unreasonable, but look at the PS3 - it costs more in the UK than
Europe, and more in Ireland than mainland Europe, even though it's the
same currency!

You could buy from Slim direct and pay the VAT and duty and it's about
the same as £1,300, the current UK retail (actually a little less), so
at £1,700 there would be no incentive to buy in the UK at all.

 Hi

I've been thinking about getting a Transporter for a while now.

I've just heard a rumour that prices in the UK will be going up soon,
to around 1700 UKP. Does anyone know anything about this?

It seems SB3 prices may come down a little at the same time.

 regards

 Chris

Where did you hear this rumour from? I was hoping to get a Transporter
later this year, but a 500.00 pound increase would make such a purchase
more difficult.

This isn't an April Fools joke, is it?
