[DQSD-Users] Change default search engine

2007-05-25 Thread nickmail62-dqsd
Hi

I would like my default search engine to be google.co.uk. I have put the
following line in my localprefs.js file defaultsearch=gguk, but google.com
is still reigning supreme. If there is more to it than that, could someone let
me know what I must do?

Thanks

2004-04-29 Thread dqsd-users . to . sarahwbs
I concur - I use DQSD several times per hour when I'm at the computer.
When I'm at someone else's computer, I am lost without it. I have never
even considered trying any other toolbar, cause DQSD's features
functions could never be matched. I think people are just busy, hence
the slow-down in traffic on the devel list.

I did receive your post to the dev list on the 22nd.. The list
appears to be working, although traffic is so low it is fairly hard
to tell.. It would seem that development and discussion on the
toolbar has been abandoned. Things that were once being discussed
as design changes, fixes etc. haven't been mentioned in months..
Maybe with the slew of other toolbars coming out, people have
migrated off... This is a bummer as there are certain capabilities
of the toolbar that I personally cannot do without which are yet to
be delivered with other competing toolbars with active development.

[DQSD-Users] Google's deskbar and miniviewer

2003-11-07 Thread dqsd
Today's news, Google launches Goggle Deskbar
http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html

It succesfully clone the best feature from DQSD. Less features but a better
interface for configurability. You can add custom searches (I think only GET
searches and not POSTs like DQSD).

I still prefear DQSD because I can add my personal searches, set alarm, send
emails and more but I really like the Miniviewer
http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/help/options_viewer.html !!

Anyone have ideas on implementing it in DQSD?

What's if google will implement searches with POSTs too? Is it going to kill
dave's great creation?

[DQSD-Users] Selection of whois destination (betterwhois vs. whois.sc)

2003-10-19 Thread phil-dqsd

I agree. If we really want to beef up the traffic on this relatively low
traffic mailing list, we should encourage e-mail from anyone who wants to
change DSQD search to direct more searches to their own sites. We could
then send out bulk e-mails asking for others to send in requests to this
list, because I think it is important for DSQD users to be aware of all of
the web sites out there. All of us are intensely interested in finding out
about all the offerings on the web directly from the promoters of those
sites, because they are the ones that know what is best.

Dave,
Not sure if you follow the whois area but www.whois.sc is the
best whois then betterwhois.com

You should remap the whois command to www.whois.sc

Example:

whois sourceforge.net
That would be
www.whois.sc/sourceforge.net

I think you will find the whois records more useful at whois.sc!

That's right, you CAN sell GPL software. In fact, I can sell copies of

Actually, you can sell GPL software. You just have to give the person you
sold it to the source, and the right to distribute it under the GPL. For an
example, see RedHat.
As to the Hotbot toolbar, my understanding was that they approached Dave,
despite the fact that they didn't have to, as long as they adhere to the
GPL, which they have every intention of doing.
Greg

DQSD is not able to be sold as it is released under terms of the GNU

[DQSD-Users] RE: Daves toolbar / ePilot (Phil Albert)

2003-07-09 Thread phil-dqsd

I would be willing to send Dave and Glenn et al. some money or buy them
lunch - DQSD is elegant and useful.

As for the idea of ePliot's cost-per-click search engine listings, there is
no free lunch. ePilot's search results will take users where they don't
want to go on their own. (Otherwise, why would someone pay ePilot to
direct traffic towards them?) I must say, I am weary from web
advertising. I check the news and I have to clip coupons and visit a
casino. I check a blog and I have to buy a new car, check out this other
cool site and optimize my computer. I check my stocks and I have to view
a mostly naked woman implying that I need to lose weight. and on and on.

I say Go ahead, ePilot, make all the new searches you want and load them
up to SourceForge. I'll make sure not to load them.

I do like Peter Heath's idea. It's kinda like the guys in SF that bought
24 pay telephone lines from PacBell and had computers dialing 1-800 numbers
all day on those pay phones. The phone company has to share the fees it
gets from 1-800 numbers with pay phone operators and the guys collected a
few $500K checks from PacBell before PacBell got suspicious. The guys went
to jail.

Hi,

I fixed it up, you had the commas wrong in your arrays (or enums, or
whatever evil JavaScript construct that is ;).
Also, the language code for Swedish is sv, not se.

For some reason, though, I can't get DQSD to override the language
reported by navigator.userLanguage... I tried setting language=en; in
localprefs.js as well as preferences.js to get back to English.

Does anybody know if that's a mistake on my part?

Subject: [DQSD-Users] Win-S and multiple monitors

 Hi,

I'm running DQSD both at work and at home.

At work, I have the following setup:
 - Win2000 SP3
 - IE6
 - 3 monitors

 At home:
 - WinXP SP1
 - IE6
 - 1 monitor

For some reason, at the work machine, when I press Win-S, the
search bar seems to loop, i.e. the cursor is blinking
wildly, and whenever I type something, I can only get one
character in there, then it selects the char so the next
thing I type overwrites the last one. I'm not sure how clear
 that is :)

To make things even stranger, whatever I click with my mouse,
after the looping has begun, is copied into the bar (so if I
would click this mail in Outlook, it would copy in Kim
 Grsman Win-S and multiple monitors m 2003-03-10 18:15) and
 searched for.

I can't really put my finger on where the problem is, but I'd
be happy to hear about similar experiences.

I'll see if I can narrow it down a bit later, i.e. disable
all but the primary monitor, keep the bar on there and try to
 find a pattern.

 Thanks!

RE: [DQSD-Users] Failure to install deskbar

2003-03-12 Thread dqsd-users-admin
Hugh,

Every time I try to install it, I get the following error
 message: 'DQSDTools.Keyboardhook - can't install hook'.

I had this problem the first time I installed DQSD (Windows 2000 SP2),
but I never found a proper solution... It works fine now, and I know
I've uninstalled _another_ keyboard hook util in between, so there may
be some conflict.

Do you know if you have any other keyboard hooks active?

Best regards,
Kim

Subject: [DQSD-Users] Failure to install deskbar

 Dear Quick Search,

I had been using DQSD for some months quite happily with no
problems. But recently I upgraded from Windows ME to XP,
since when I cannot re-install Dave's Quick Search Deskbar.
The previous thin grey toolbar at the bottom of my screen is
now a thick blue one (you know?) and it won't accept the new
toolbar. And I really miss it!

Every time I try to install it, I get the following error
 message: 'DQSDTools.Keyboardhook - can't install hook'.

What does this mean? And what can I do get my deskbar back?
 Please help.

 Yours truly,
 Hugh Terry.

2003-03-12 Thread dqsd-users-admin
Here is a new search for alistapart.com.

BTW, any idea when a new version will be released?
