Re: [drakelist] Parting out radios
eBay bashing has become quite popular, however I have made several good purchases and a few sales that I otherwise could not have made using conventional avenues. Hamfests are fine, but most are too far away from my location to be of any benefit; Dayton is many thousands of miles away - eBay is one click away. I also agree that eBay is being invaded by too many commercial vendors selling items of doubtful value or appeal. However, given time, this too should self-correct - the vendors will realize the limited appeal of their products (ie: low sales and profits). Like it or lump it, eBay is a reflection of the free market with surprisingly few regulations. BTW, I will be in Dayton this year and look forward to meeting a few of you at the Drake forum on Friday. Regards Dave, VE6DRW
Re: [drakelist] Parting out radios
[EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Why does eBay allow "CB linears" to be advertised for sale? Simple: The sellers of such have figured if they word the ads carefully - including such verbiage as "for 10M use only" or terms to that effect - eBay won't touch them. This smacks of a support staff that is somewhat clueless to what is "legal" and what isn't. If the FCC were to severely penalize eBay and its board of directors for violating federal law in carrying such items for sale...you would see the practice stop very quickly. -- Submissions:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe:[EMAIL PROTECTED] - unsubscribe drakelist in body Hopelessly Lost:[EMAIL PROTECTED] - help in body of message Zerobeat Web Page: www.zerobeat.net - sponsored by www.tlchost.net --

Re: [drakelist] Parting out radios
Each method of buying and selling has pro and con.? The HF swap nets, the Drake Nets,?the Drake Reflector, and hamfests seem to build friendships between buyers and sellers and the transactions seem to be very, very successful.? That personal interaction might be a contributing factor.? I can remember most (not all)?of the people that I bought?things from at hamfests and on the air.? In contrast, the auction sites breed a certain amount of anonymity and limited interaction, which is somewhat counter to the spirit of ham radio, which includes communication.? I'm not sure I can remember anybody I ever bought things from on Upay, I mean eBay.? Still, one should just follow the path that suits them best and not force others to follow them.? What bugs me is the people who trace a problem down to a certian board, then replace the board. Ever hear of FIXING the darn board? Wish they would send me all their bad boards, I could fix them and make some money on e-Pay. 73 -Jim -- Ham Radio NU0C TR7/RV7, TR6/RV6, T4XC/R4C, L4B, NCL2000, SB104A, R390A, GT550A/RV550A, HyGain 3750, IBM PS/2 - all vintage, all the time! "David & Chris Drake" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Go for it Fred !! There's not a lot of R7's out there to start with !! Wish I could help you out. Each "side" of the argument has its pros and cons...it's nice to be able to find all of the parts one needs to restore an incomplete or cosmetically imperfect set, but if the "fix" is simple then why part the donor rig out in the first place? And who would have ever imagined a CW75 fetching north of $350? Either the shills are hard at work or there are some "collectors" out there who are willing to pay ANY price to say "I won!" I don't suppose anyone on this list has a good R7 front panel they would be willing to part with? I got hold of a receiver which might be classified as a parts donor by some...yet with a little cosmetic TLC and some time spent with a soldering iron, I think I can bring this one "back". Would rather see it on the air than on the 'Bay... [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- David, Well, you can believe those that say "We're out of the sunspot lows" or you can believe your receiver, hi hi. As to parting out radios, that is a controversial subject that's for sure. Personally, I'm keeping my TR-7As and R7s as my retirement package, hi hi. Hope to see the Drake enthusiasts at the Drake Forum and Hamvention 2008. 73, Evan**Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. [drakelist] Parting out radios
Folks, it looks as though you can part out a TR7 and get more money for the parts (looks like almost double) than if you simply fixed the radio and sold it. (I'm talking about the various parts for sale on epay.) But I must also say the prices seem to be going up for ANY TR7, working or not. AND, the accessories are almost out of sight. (in my opinion) I suppose its basic supply and demand. For me, I'm emotionally attached to mine! PS, could'nt hear any of the Ohio guys this afternoon on the net. Been that way for several weeks now. We should be getting close to the upside of the cycle and we will all be having a lot more fun with radios. Oh.Hope everyone had fun at Dayton. David wd9cmd
