Re: [Dspace-tech] Install dspace unsucessful

2009-04-03 Thread Panyarak Ngamsritragul

I downloaded DSpace 1.5 Live CD from
http://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/bitstream/2160/565/3/DSpace%20Live%20CD%20-%201-5-0%20v2.iso
and have it booted as a virtual machine in VirtualBox.

I then try to figure out the settings in that installation and I could not
find where in tomcat5.5 which set the user who run tomcat as dspace ! It
is very clear from 'ps -axu' that tomcat is run by tomcat55. But I
noticed that tomcat55 belongs to group 'dspace' and 'dspace' also belongs
to groups 'admin'.

All directories related to tomcat5.5 owned by tomcat55 but some files
under /etc/tomcat5.5/Catalina/localhost.

In tomcat6, something called 'openjdk' is installed together with
tomcat6 while this is not required in tomcat5.5. Could this be the cause
of Java's *.jar errors

Could someone who successfully installed DSpace in Ubuntu 8.10 be kind
enough to document the installation instructions and post to this list ?

Thanks.
Panyarak

Hi Mallikarjun,

seems as if you are missing a label in Messages.properties.

Look at this section in Messages.properties:

browse.menu.author = Author
browse.menu.subject = Subject
browse.menu.title = Title
browse.menu.dateissued = Issue Date
browse.menu.dateaccessioned = Submit Date

and add
browse.menu.date = Copyright Date

Hope that helps

2009-04-03 Thread Panyarak Ngamsritragul

A million thanks to Sean ! That's it ! Now it works !

The problem was the setting of /etc/default/tomcat6 which is usually
ignored in any installation instruction. Maybe it is worth to just add a
few lines about that, don't you think so ? At least it is very useful for
ones who do not know about tomcat before.

I also noticed that (I said this before) tomcat6 comes together with
openjdk which can be substitution of sun-java6-jdk, but I have not tested
it yet.

Thanks to everyone who has been willing to help.

[Dspace-tech] community browsing cutomization

2009-04-03 Thread Sandoval, Alvaro
Hello everybody:

We have dspace 1.5.1 based on jspui.

Is it possible to customize the way a community browse its items?

In other words: we have different items under different communities with
different metadata fields. So what has meaning in one community doesn't in
another.

Thanks in advance,

[Dspace-tech] Student application process coming to close.

2009-04-03 Thread Mark Diggory
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know we have about 1.5 hours left before the close
of the student application process. We currently have 12 proposals in
processing. If you are a student and wanting to get in your proposal make
sure you do so before 12 noon PST (1.5 hours from the time this email was
sent). Looks to be an exciting year and I see already a nice mix of
projects to choose from.

Past mentors and community members, we have significantly fewer mentors
signing up this year, I'm unsure if this is due to the GSoC/GHoP application
process or because of all our busy schedules... more mentors means we can
support more projects, if your interested, don't hesitate to join the team
before our allocations are decided.

Cheers,
Mark

 Does this means that Mentors should make projects perfectly well defined
 right now? How do you see the project definition process?
 Should we arrange some kind of conference call at a given time this week?

 Have a nice day!

No, I assume applicants and mentors are open to adjust the parameters of
their applications in the dspace-tech or dspace-gsoc email lists, or in the
#dspace IRC channel. I think we have until April 15th for Mentors to
evaluate the applications and interogate the students ;-). On the 15th, the
duplicate detection/slot bartering process begins in a reserved IRC channel
by project Admins.

[Dspace-tech] Brazilian Portuguese DSpace site - encoding problem

2009-04-03 Thread Gerson de Souza Faria
Hello,

I wonder which is the most adequate configuration for a Brazilian Portuguese
Windows DSpace site regarding character encoding and so on.

I've been testing a first setup. I entered some items but when I searched by
author for instance, items with specific characters like ç,ã,á etc are not
returned as result.

So I configured the connector to UTF-8 and nothing changed.

Maybe I've made some prior configuration mistakes, in the basic phase.

Has someone had such problem or solution?

Thanks!

Re: [Dspace-tech] email updates

2009-04-03 Thread liss RR

hi Richard

I´ve installed dspacev. 1.5.1 in another server and a I have the same problem
when somebody wants to subscribe to a collection sow Internal error. is there
something else that I must do? I already replaced the contact-information
dspace-h...@myu.edu by liss...@hotmail.com in the files:

-config/emails/change_password

-config/email/register

and the dspace.cfg in the lines:

# Email settings ##

# SMTP mail server
mail.server=smtp.myu.edu

# SMTP mail server authentication username and password (if required)
# mail.server.username = myusername
# mail.server.password = mypassword

# From address for mail
mail.from.address = lr...@uv.mx

# Currently limited to one recipient!
feedback.recipient = lr...@uv.mx

# General site administration (Webmaster) e-mail
mail.admin = lr...@uv.mx

# Recipient for server errors and alerts
# alert.recipient = email-address-here

thanks for the answer...

 Hi,

  hi all

  I've installed dspace v. 1.4.1beta but when somebody wants to subscribe to
  a collection sow Internal error what can I do?

 You may want to start with upgrading to a stable release rather than a
 beta, either 1.4.2 or 1.5.1. Otherwise, please post to this list the
 Java stack trace which can be found in the HTML page source (in your
 browser look for View Page Source).

 Cheers,

 Richard

Re: [Dspace-tech] Brazilian Portuguese DSpace site - encoding problem

2009-04-03 Thread Alvaro Sandoval

Hi Gerson:

We had the same problem, and the solution applies to French, Spanish,
Portuguese, etc.
You have to modify org.dspace.search.DSAnalyzer.java and add the
ISOLatin1AccentFilter class, as Marie-Hélène Vézina already wrote.

Check these links out:

 Hello,

 I wonder which is the most adequate configuration for a Brazilian
 Portuguese
 Windows DSpace site regarding character encoding and so on.

 I've been testing a first setup. I entered some items but when I searched
 by
 author for instance, items with specific characters like ç,ã,á etc are not
 returned as result.

 So I configured the connector to UTF-8 and nothing changed.

 Maybe I've made some prior configuration mistakes, in the basic phase.

 Has someone had such problem or solution?

 Thanks!
