Re: [Dspace-tech] problems with stats-log-converter
Dear helix84 and Hilton, thank you for the scripts. That should work. Still, a question about the –n parameter. When should that be used? My log files are from 1.8.x and earlier. That means that we need to convert the old logs and import those into Solr. It seems that a full path needs to be specified for the location of the input log files and the output. When using relative paths the -m switch does not work. In dspace 1.8.3 a nullpointer exception is returned in the console. When running stats-log-converter from dspace 3.2, the console does not report any errors. Console reports that it is loading dspace.cfg and log4j.properties and then list some of the log files. However, the dspace log file reports for every file the same file access problem. That seems to be because the filename of the -o parameter is joint with the file name of the log, resulting in an invalid path. The problem is that it does not convert all files. We never have changed log4j.properties, but nevertheless we have a mix of log files appended with numbers and files appended with a date. The current 3.2 log4j.properties uses a DailyFileAppender with log4j.appender.A1.DatePattern=-MM-dd. Nevertheless it only seems to read the log files that have a number appended. I have two questions How can I get it to convert all log files? Other than copying them all into a new file. That file would be very large. When do I need to use the -n parameter? Re: [Dspace-tech] SOLR Browse Error after upgrade to 3.2 from 1.8.2
Hi Hilton, the first things that I notice is that the URL is quite long (12883 characters URI-encoded), which can easily be a problem in itself (HTTP 414: Request-URI Too Large). That would be consistent with one group (query) causing this and the rest not. Anyway, this is just a message from DSpace reporting a generic message from Solr. To verify, look into Tomcat's logs to see the Solr's message. If you really need this large a group (query), you can configure Tomcat to allow for longer queries (with all the dangers it might present): http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SolrTomcat#Enabling_Longer_Query_Requests Regards, ~~helix84 Compulsory reading: DSpace Mailing List Etiquette https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Mailing+List+Etiquette -- CenturyLink Cloud: The Leader in Enterprise Cloud Services. Hi Julio, That HTTP Status 500 message is a generic DSpace system message which, unfortunately, does not provide the information we need to help you resolve the problem. In order to figure out what the real underlying error is, you'll have to look at the DSpace Log files. Please see the How to Troubleshoot an Error page for information about finding the error in the log files: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error Once you locate the error in the logs, if you cannot figure out the problem, feel free to send the full error message to this listserv. If you add a new table, DSpace won't really care about it unless you modify the DSpace source code. If you want to add a new table anyway, just talk directly to the database as you normally would (psql for Postgres or sqlplus for Oracle or any of the numerous DB client programs). Then to create the table, just use a SQL command like CREATE TABLE yourtablename;. There are also GUI DB clients. Use the db.username and db.password to authenticate. [Dspace-tech] [SPAM] DSpace 4.0 is not showing browse or search results
I upgraded my DSpace platform to 4.0 but I'm having problems with the browse search results, I have already done all the migration steps but whe I browse my communities or collections by title, author, subject or any other index I got no results, like in this link http://prntscr.com/2n1ics I thought i was a SOLR problem but the OAI interface and the statistics are working fine look at http://prntscr.com/2ltwmh and http://prntscr.com/2ltwzh. I have already executed the command dspace index-discovery -f several times but the result is always the same. Then I decided to re-build all the search index from scratch using the command dspace index-discovery -b but even with that i still did not get results You can find all the config files and the indexation process and solr logs through the following link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xf2kb2jgoapgn1g/VeEv_QC1og I have spent almost 2 weeks trying to solve this problem, Here are some features of our machine SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 (x86_64) virtualization with vmware esxi 8 GB RAM 500 GB Hard drive Java version 1.7.0_45 Tomcat version 7.0.50 Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 database Thanks for your help! -- View this message in context: http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/DSpace-4-0-is-not-showing-browse-or-search-results-tp4670673.html Sent from the DSpace - Tech mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- CenturyLink Cloud: The Leader in Enterprise Cloud Services. Re: [Dspace-tech] registered user has no search results
Your number of permissions (that DSpace asks Solr about behind the scenes) might actually be triggering the same problem that Hilton asked about just today: http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/SOLR-Browse-Error-after-upgrade-to-3-2-from-1-8-2-td4670623.html Your Solr query URL is about 7800 characters long (perhaps even over the default limit of 8192). There are 2 solutions: 1) increase the URL length limit in Tomcat 2) decrease the number of permissions (I'm not exactly sure which ones this entails; I could probably find out from the stacktrace but it will be faster if you just try to remember where you have a large number of users in a group or permissions on an object). To add new columns in the eperson table, you'll also need to modify the EPerson class: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/eperson/EPerson.java If you're using XMLUI, you'll probably want to modify the EditProfile form: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-xmlui/src/main/java/org/dspace/app/xmlui/aspect/eperson/EditProfile.java Depending on what exactly you want to do, you may or may not need to modify .xsl files that render the HTML pages. Is what you're doing something that other users might also find useful? If so, it's advisable to write up a draft of your feature (requirements, use cases, how you intend to implement it) and send it to dspace-devel. You might find out that others are interested in the same feature and willing to either help or at least pint out how you can improve your design - before you start writing code. Re: [Dspace-tech] More enterprise deployment questions
On Fri, Jan 24, 2014 at 03:47:22PM -0600, Tim Donohue wrote: Hi Andrew, On 1/24/2014 2:46 PM, Andrew Reid wrote: Huh. This is not working for me -- I have a testing installation with the default Mirage theme, and I am adding the lines from your comment directly in Mirage/sitemap.xmap, rather than rebuilding the app -- I mention this because it might be part of the issue. I may be using weird errors, too, my testing URL is host/dspace/xmlui/static/wrong.html, or host/dspace/xmlui/static/wrong.js -- they give different errors, the former gives a ResourceNotound with a big long Cocoon back-trace, and the second one gives a NullPointerException, with a very short Cocoon back-trace. Modifying Mirage/sitemap.xmap did not change this behavior -- I double-checked that the additional handle-errors map is *inside* the map:pipelines tag and *outside* any of the other map:item tag-pairs. Are my errors too weird? Am I actually getting *two* errors somehow? Vandalizing the top-level sitemap.xml is starting to look like the near-term solution, but I'd be willing to invest a bit more effort in a nicer answer. I'm probably going to need more info. It sounds like our two setups are different in some waythough admittedly, all of this work is extremely new (working on it *today*). So maybe I've overlooked something too. What does the URL to your DSpace homepage look like? Is it host/dspace/xmlui/? Yes -- it happens both for my soon-to-deploy test system and my mostly-clean DSpace 3.2 prototype. It's mod_jk from an Apache front end to Tomcat in the back. There's a sym-link trick, the actual app is behind a symlink with a # in it, which Tomcat converts to a slash. Long way to say that, yes, the base URL is host/dspace/xmlui. The actual URL that our security folks' scanner picked up was host/dspace/xmlui/static/js/discovery/badfile123.js, which is apparently some kind of likely penetration vector. The actual error is, An error has occurred, which is apparently an HTTP 500 response. Without the static (for host/dspace/xmlui/js/discovery/badfile123.js), I get a different error, it's a Resource not found, again with the stack-traces. Since Friday, I have also subsequently heard that my security folks are unhappy with the 500 response -- can you (or anyone) offer them some assurances that this is benign? I noticed, while poking around, that other public-facing DSpace installations do the same thing -- I won't mention any names, since it's at least possible it's some kind of security issue. The prototype system is the one where I have tried putting the error-handling code in the webapps/xmlui/themes/Mirage/sitemap.xmap file -- I see the same behavior both with and without this code. After making changes to this file, I am restarting Tomcat, and I am frequently clearing my browser cache, so hopefully I am avoiding simple statefulness mistakes. -- A. Also, what happens if you remove the /static/ subpath? (That actually *IS* a valid subpath in DSpace, and there's some special logic to deal with that subpath which could be causing issues here.) Covered above, it converts the 500 to a 404, but does not change the presentation of the errors. In any case, here's what works for me (on DSpace 4.0, but it should be the same for 3.2). In the example below [dspace.dir] represents the directory where DSpace is *installed*. 1. For me, Tomcat is loading the DSpace XMLUI from [dspace.dir]/webapps/xmlui/ (it's a completely fresh install of DSpace 4) 2. Create an error.html under [dspace.dir]/webapps/xmlui/themes/Mirage/ (making sure it's obviously readable to Tomcat) 3. Modify the sitemap.xmap under [dspace.dir]/webapps/xmlui/themes/Mirage/ For a simple test just add this: map:sitemap !-- lots of settings -- map:pipelines !-- lots of pipeline settings -- !-- For a VERY simple test, just add the below four lines -- !-- This will cause any errors to display the error.html file and throw an HTTP 404 response -- map:handle-errors map:generate src=error.html/ map:serialize type=html status-code=404/ /map:handle-errors /map:pipelines /map:sitemap Tried this, still no change in the error behiavor, I am seeing the output filtered through exception2html. The actual Cocoon error may be informative, it seems to be coming from the top-level sitemap.xmap (i.e. the xmlui one, not the Mirage one), it says failed to process reader, and has a complaint line 605 and 606 of host/dspace/xmlui/sitemap.xmap. Is this helpful? -- A. 4. You may need to restart Tomcat (depending on your settings) 5. Finally, test some invalid URLs. For me, DSpace XMLUI is running directly at http://localhost:8080;. So, all of these invalid URLs show me the error.html contents:

[Dspace-tech] Line breaks in default.license get ignored
Hi All, ===System=== Dspace 3.2, RedHat 4.4.7 ===Issue=== I enter our customized license text in /config/default.license and restart Tomcat. The changes are reflected, however the line breaks get ignored on the actual HTML submission page that displays the license. I'm editing the file using VIM editor on the server itself to edit the file. I inspected the line breaks and they appear normal in the file. I've also tried adding the license text to the Collection specifically usingthe admin interface, however this results in the same issue. I'm assuming this might be a relatively common issue, although I haven't found any suggestions that were useful in the forums, etc. Does anyone have any advice on getting these line breaks to be parsed correctly?
