[HCDX] DX Loggings -- 6 June -- Ralph Perry

2013-06-06 Thread RALPH PERRY
BRAZIL – 6104.79v-.76 Radio Cultura Filadelfia, Foz do Iguacu, rarely heard
station noted several mornings this week, appears to be nominal *0945.
Very short reception window, as signal tends to peak before 1000 and then
totally fade out by 1005-1010. First hrd 6/3 at 0956 when tuning by,
signal strong enough to stop me in my tracks -- nice ZY sertanejo mx
w/accordion and strummed acoustic guitar. Canned ID PP anmt including fqys
by OM and two time tones at the hour, then into PP religious inspirational
pgm w/OM talking over musical bridges. Faded into the mud soon
thereafter. Noted next day *0943 on 6/4, with technician seeming to just
throw the xmtr switch and joining programming in midstream, with
enthusiastic PP preacher and, again, sertanejo mx to ToH.At 0958 began
sequence of multiple IDs in both formats as “Radio Cultura Filadelfia” and
“Radio Filadelfia”. An inspirational morning religious show daily at
1000. On 6/5, only an open carrier noted signing on at *0946 but couldn’t
raise sufficient audio this morning. Also found webstream running in
parallel, with only a few seconds lag behind the SW fqy. Big thanks to
DXers Carlos Goncalves and Dave Valko for their assistance in pulling that
initial ID from my recording of the 6/3 reception. ( Perry,
Illinois) CHINA/
TIBET – 7450 PBS Xizang, Lhasa, fair signal 6/2 1140-1232 with news/comment
program in CC presented by OM and YL in dialogue with Chinese orchestral
mx bridges. Program change at top of hour. This one seems to show up
only very erratically on this fqy. (Perry, Illinois) TAIWAN – 11549.84,
Yuye Guangpo Diantai, Yuye Fishery Station, noted 5/22 with the Wednesday
shortwave xmsn, *0859 with IS and YL, into 0900 programming with chantlike
CC mx. Mx and talks to abrupt carrier cut at 0928 and then back 10 seconds
later. 0929 tuning signal again and YL ID, with program resuming. Nice,
modern Chinese vocals, OM and YL discussions and temporary carrier cut at
0941. End of programming at 0958* with carrier cut mid-song. A fun
logging! (Perry, Illinois) MYANMAR – 9730.83v-.86, Myanma Radio, presumed
relaying Padauk Myay FM and running well past schedule, noted several
recent mornings 1045-1135+ time frame. Fades in and peaks around 1115
here. Rather nondescript programming, OM and YL talks in unid lang,
orchestral music bursts, etc. (Perry, Illinois) THAILAND – 9390 Radio
Thailand World Service hrd 6/1 *1200 with bells and chimes, good signal,
English ID at s/on into Malay service to 1215*. Back at *1230 for EE
service, but change in beam resulted in poorer reception. Many mornings.
(Perry, Illinois) BRAZIL – 4774.99, Radio Difusora de Congonhas, 5/15 at
0023-0055*, an old friend station, reactivated, program of PP ballads with
religious anmts and comments, etc. At 0049 started the day’s shutdown
sequence, contact info anmts including internet ( “w-w-w . . .” . ) At
0051, went into “Oracion Final” followed by a hymn accompanied by piano
and then abruptly pulled the plug at 0055*. Good signal and only light
QRM, main problem the incessant static crashes from summer t-storms.

2013-01-11 Thread RALPH PERRY
ECUADOR – 3380.08, Centro Radiofónico de Imbabura, Ibarra, music
punching thru nicely on 1/9 from 1016 tune-in to 1115 f/out. Good
selection of Ecuadorian folklorica (pasillos, pasacalles,
sanjuanitos). Until 1100, all anmts were the brief, recorded eco anmt
that is driving everyone crazy – too boomy to comprehend amid the 90
mb noise. But at 1100, different morning pgm started, with live ancr.
He wrapped up previous show about “…la musica presentada…en esta
manana . . . radiofonico . . .” and gave HC t/cks (“6 de la manana y 7
minutos . . . “). Long discourse from TOH to f/out around 1115.
Bunch of us were monitoring this “together” remotely, emails flying
all over North America at 4 a.m. Big fun! Also hrd 1/10, 11 at 1015
checks, but signal much lower both days. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 6105.50, Radio Panamericana doing well nearly every morning
now. 1040 on 1/10, OM notes, “Desde La Paz . . . Grupo Aymara” and
then followed very funky, rustic CP folk tune, featuring sicu-sicus,
many shrill quenas and charangos. Also the usual “La hora en
Panamericana … “ t/cks. At 1049, live YL with ID and then the
national anthem of Bolivia by orchestra. Am hearing this many
mornings now, appears they sign on the air and play filler until about
1050, when they “formally” take the air. After NA, recorded sign-on
ID anmt and then into instrumental vals criollo mx. (Perry, Illinois)

PERU – 6173.88m Radio Tawantinsuyo, Cusco, sign-on heard 1/9 at
*0959, fair signal but Asian 6175 QRM so needed usual ECSS and notch.
1003 s/on anmts by OM and into morning newscast. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 5952.44, Radio Pio XII, Llallagua, fair signal and low
modulation at 0223 t/in on 1/9, just caught end of broadcast day as
they ran familiar shutdown music, “Col Bogey March” at 0228, f/by OM
and YL with closing anmts. At 0230, three strummed chords and then
silence. Carrier not cut by 0233, when I left them. (Perry,
Illinois)

2013-01-05 Thread RALPH PERRY
PERU – 4984.14, Radio Voz Cristiana, Chilca, Huancayo, hrd signing on
several mornings this week, *1056 on 12/29, *1055 on 12/30, and
already broadcasting by 1058 check on 1/3. Best on 12/30, when signal
fair-good amidst noise, with shortwave channel joining programming
already in progress at 1055 – caught the end of the daily pgm by their
“crazed preacher”. At 1058, an a capella hymn by an OM, then
religious tlks in SS, followed by eco adstring at 1103 for “articulos
plasticos . . . al edificio Comercial Espinosa, en la Calle Real . .
.” Clean ID for RadioVoz Cristiano and then into OA folklorico tunes
at 1107. Held to 1115 fade-out. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 6105.50, Radio Panamericana, La Paz, good signal 1043
tune-in on 1/3. Best in USB and notching out the het. At 1045, YL
giving usual pgm ID as “Bolivia Corazon” and then into CP melodies,
including criollo-style piano tunes, not just folklorica. At 1049, OM
with usual t/ck format, “La Hora Panamericana . . . 6 y 49 minutos!”
Noted Pio Doce 5952.46 about 1005 this morning also, so a decent day
for 49 mb propagation from Bolivia. Also 1/4 same general time, with
very nice signal, same programming. (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR – 4781.70, Radio Oriental, Tena, massive signal 1/5 1100
tune-in, shortly after sign-on, and holding up past 1130. Tropical
rhythms, cumbias, scattered HC pasillos and one endless sample of HC
electronic “house music” which pounded away for 8 minutes, 1109-1117.
Familiar usual advertisers heard, like “Electric Ambato” and “Banco
del Barrio”. As always, live ancr is very low signal compared to
nice, strong audio on all recorded portions of the pgm. OM at 1120,
after kids sang short rendition of “Silent Night”: “Senores y
senoras, son las 6 de la manana y 20 minutos en Radio Oriental . . .”
A favorite daily visitor. (Perry, Illinois)

2012-12-29 Thread RALPH PERRY
PERU – 4984.14, Radio Voz Cristiana, Chilca, Huancayo, identity
finally confirmed this morning, 12/29, although signal only poor-fair
amidst noise, from approx 1056 when carrier switched on, with pgming
cranked-up about a minute later. (So, perhaps may indeed be nominal
*1100, as initially speculated. ) OM ancr in SS, f/by canned eco
anmts at TOH by OM and then YL -- likely same IDs as hrd the day
before, but could not copy. Folkloric mx bursts and fragments of
anmts thru to 1109 when was finally able to // with the station’s
webstream, which was trailing by about a minute the live audio on
shortwave.(Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings -- 28 Dec -- Ralph Perry

2012-12-28 Thread RALPH PERRY
UNID (PERU?) – 4984.14 (down from .16 the day before), unid Andes
station heard again this morning 12/28 from 1047 tune-in to 1124
fade-out. (Previously speculated *1100 thus incorrect.) Pretty good
signal strength at tune-in but awful background static --
atmospherics, not local electrical noise -- making speech copy very
difficult, and only could be understood. At tune-in, ecstatic,
deliriously excited OM in rapid-fire SS, seemingly preaching -- which
will certainly fit if this turns out to be the Pentecostal station,
Voz Cristiana, Chilca (Huancayo), Peru. At around 1055 YL in eco with
musical theme and apparent station anmts, mentioned ‘emisora’. Caught
ad for what seemed a zapateria at TOH. With signal gradually fading,
was able to hold onto this until about 1124, musical pgm, with
religious songs based on OA folkloric melodies but also other tunes
which seemed pure Andes “musica profunda”. Tlks re “la Biblia”.
Should be able to ID this very soon, with better signals expected now
that earlier s/on likely in the mornings. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 5952.46, Radio Pio Doce, Llallagua, 12/28 with best signal
heard in long time, strong and QRM-free from 0005 – 0033 tune out.
Signal lost a bit of its punch by the end, as some grayline
enhancement dropped away. Entire time was an OM and YL with news
program in Aymara (though, say, maybe ~10% was in SS, mainly the
phone-in correspondents). At 0029, CP folkloric musical blast and
clear anmt for “Arusquipiri!”, presumably the pgm name. Then funny SS
canned ad by vy bassy-voiced OM dialoguing with cutesy lady in baby
voice. After musical theme, pgm continuing. Nice listening level,
overall. (Perry, Illinois)

2012-12-27 Thread RALPH PERRY
UNID LA – 4984.16, Unid. LA station, probably Andes QTH, noted again
with morning xmsn, weakly on 12/27. Probably nominal *1100, hrd at
1116 tune-by with OM in SS and what seemed very rustic OA folklorica
mx selections. Vy shrill quenas and YL chorus yipping at 1117. At
1120 lengthy anmt by OM in SS, hearing snippets of speech fragments
(“la alegria” and so forth) lasting to 1124. OM seemed to be intoning
and could have either been a prayer or rapid-fire SS as in a sports
report, really couldn’t make this out. At 1124, again Andes-flavored
melody. OM again at 1127 but now getting too weak, amidst building
noise level as LA propagation was ending. PFA in Lima, perhaps you
can solve this one? (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR – 3380.06, presumed Centro Radial Imbabura (CRI), programming
abruptly “there” at 1052 check, poor to fair signal on noisy morning
of 12/27, but holding up past 1110. (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR – 4781.68, Radio Oriental, Tena, noted 1112 with big carrier
and good audio when playing recorded sound like ads, music, but audio
is all-but-lost when switching to live microphone for OM anmts in SS.
Canned ad for tienda selling fashionable clothing for “las ninas y las
mujeres” located on “Avenida Quince de Noviembre, Tena” . (Perry,
Illinois)

BRAZIL – 6010.09, Radio Inconfidencia, Belo Horizonte, big signal
bombing in at 2230 12/24 with quick canned promo for futbol and then
and OM in PP with full ID “ . . . con la musica Brasilera . . . Radio
Inconfidencia!”. // 15190 also with a nice signal, but 6010 offering
much ‘brighter’ audio. (Perry, Illinois)

2012-12-20 Thread RALPH PERRY
BOLIVIA – 6154.94, Radio Fides, La Paz, sign-on caught on 12/18 at
*0945 as carrier switched on and then abruptly into canned musical ID
anmt by OM, giving all fqys including AM, FM and onda corta , both 49
mb and 31 mb. Didn’t have the recorder running, but did catch nice
clear “Radio Fides” ID, and then into the morning show. Fides doesn’t
believe in warming up the xmtr, prior to the start of broadcasting so,
as a result, the signal improves over the first few minutes of xmsn as
the xmtr settles in. (Perry, Illinois)

PERU – 5120.00, Radio Ondas del Suroriente, Quillabamba, hrd every
morning this past week, fair signal tho noisy bands, with variable,
casual s/on in the 1045-1100 period. Initial programming is OM DJ
nonstop tlks in SS, with local 5 a.m. t/cks “la hora del Peru”. No
anthem, canned eco ID, etc. Just the guy suddenly speaking. Open
carrier initially being noted as early as 1043 on 12/20 and as late as
1053 on 12/18. Anmts seem to typically start around 1055. (Perry,
Illinois)

PERU – 6173.94, Radio Tawantinsuyo, Cusco, decent signal 10/20 at
1003 tune-in through 1030 t/o. Usual morning regional and int’l
sports (futbol scores) pgm with local t/cks as “Las cinco de la manana
y 8 minutos . . . la primer programa el dia de hoy . . .” Signal
faded in better with time, peaking around 1020. “Las 5 de la manana,
las 5 y 20 minutos. Presentamos la radio . . . programa deportivos a
traves todo el Peru . . . “ A few folkloric music bursts of 15
seconds or so, perhaps part of commercials. (Perry, Illinois)

UNID / ECUADOR – 3380.08t, unid but likely Centro Radiofónico de
Imbabura (CRI), Ibarra, reactivated after years off the air. Tnx to
Dave Valko tip, got a “me too” log also. Add a very big muchas
gracias DX Pro Pedro Arrunategui for cracking the ID on this one.
Heard rather poorly at 1108-1118 fade-out on 12/20, seemed OM in SS
with nx show, possible lite reverb or eco. Severe noise as band was
eroding.  Been watching this fqy several prior mornings, to no avail;
and monitored fqy this morning 12/20 from 1000 to past 1100 with
nothing heard until retuning at 1108. Apparently must have just come
on after I momentarily left it at maybe 1103. Perhaps nominal *1100
s/on time, as is typical for HC stations, although Dave had them a
good ten minutes earlier on 11 Dec. (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL – 9819.32, Radio Nove de Julho, Sao Paolo, this one noted with
moderate signal tho het, best in ECSS-LSB, 12/16 at 2218, OM vocalist
in PP with YL chorus and orch in background. Anmts by YL at 2221 in
PP, “Estamos apresentando a musica de . . . “ And then, nice musical
ID at , sung by YL chorus, simply “Radio Nove . . . de Julho!”
Signal fading in better toward BOH. Tnx to tip from Prof. Ronda on
this! (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 6134.82, Radio Santa Cruz, interesting programming noted on
Sun morning 12/16. At 0910 playing very rustic CP folkloric mx but
with all anmts in indigenous vernacular language. ID easily picked
out at 0912 as simply “Radio Santa Cruz”. 0915 started what seemed a
radionovela, but also in non-SS indigenous lang of E Bolivia, with a
hysterical woman weeping and moaning and relating her sad story.
Must have signed on at approx. *0900 as nothing on the channel at 0855
check. Great big, lusty signal just pounding in, reminiscent of
high-powered international broadcasters on 49 meters, back in the day,
like Deutsche Welle or Radio Nederland! (Perry, Illinois)

2012-12-02 Thread RALPH PERRY
BOLIVIA – 6134.81, Radio Santa Cruz, lovely signal 12/1 at 0948
tune-in, OM mentioning “onda media . . . onda corta . . . frecuencia
modulada . . . transmite Radio Santa Cruz, desde Santa Cruz de la
Sierra, Bolivia . “ Then came same PSA heard a previous morning,
from “Ministerio de Salud y Deportes de” Bolivia called “Contra
Dengue!”, which was about taking steps to fight the tropical
mosquito-borne illness. Folkloric music from 0952, with OM DJ
alternating in SS and presumed Aymara. Decent morning for Bolivia,
as R Fides, La Paz, noted wide-open just up the band, on 6154.94 at
0955 with CP mx folklorica featuring pinkillo whistles and charango.
(Perry, Illinois)

PERU – 6173.90t, Radio Tawantinsuyo, Cusco, tentatively the one
again on 12/1 at 1026 tune-in with OA instl mx on arpa. Only fair
signal strength this morning, best in LSB ECSS and notch, but heavy
QRM de the 6175 Asian, difficult reception by am confident this was
the Cusco station. Segued to huayno selection at 1029 with thumping
bass guitar driving the beat. Should be well heard this winter
season, on a strong Andes reception morning, but not worth fighting
the QRM this date. (Perry, Illinois)

PERU – 4810.00 Radio Logos, nice 1040 on 12/1. Back for about a week
now, heard several mornings with good signal but under chirping,
blipping ute. Need to use ECSS and passband tuning to optimize. At
tune-in, noted OA pop mx with folkloric melody but performed by
modern-sounding instrumentation. At 1042, OM with “ . . . las 5 de la
manana . . . esta es la 1 de Diciembre . . . transmite Radio Logos . .
. 5 de la manana y 42 minutos, 5 y 42, hermanos . . .” At 1046, more
of these modernized huaynos, with folk melody played by electric
guitar, organ, bass and singers. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 5952.44, Radio Pio Doce, Llallagua, 12/2 at 1001, appearing
to have just signed-on, OM in echo completing his canned opening
anmts, “ . . . de Bolivia . . . kilociclos onda media . . . onda corta
. . .” Live ancr at 1002 mentioned “esta manana, Domingo . . .”
String of musical ads and then into bilingual morning show hosted by
OM and YL – he speaks SS and she speaks in Aymara. CP folkloric
music. Held to 1020 when starting to fade. (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR – 4781.69, Radio Oriental, 12/2 back after being missing the
prior morning, noted at 1124, relatively late in the usual morning
propagational opening from Ecuador, with still a big carrier and
fairly strong music. As luck would have it, at 1126 came same singing
ad as heard on a previous morning, for “Empresa Electric Ambato”.
Then a medley of selections of hot tropical HC tunes, sounding rather
like meringues but with Ecuadorian flavor. This morning, their live
anmts were quite muted, lacking modulation punch compared to the
music. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 4795.93t, Radio Lipez, Uyuni, tentatively the one here
11/29 0956 with unmistakable CP folklore mx but too weak to pull an ID
today. Couple segued huainos with charango and guitar, yipping OMs,
to 1003 when echo anmt by OM in SS. More huaynos to 1008 when OM
again, after which came charango instl. Weak and difficult to stay
too long with this one, lost by 1015 this day. Only a ‘fair’ Andes
propagation morning, with marker stations 4747, 4775, 4790 and 4810
nowhere near their normal potential. (Perry, Illinois)

2012-11-27 Thread RALPH PERRY
BOLIVIA – 6154.94, Radio Fides, La Paz, hearing most morning now
when checked. Both 11/22 and 11/27, noted all in the clear from 0958
with v good sig, only lite het QRM. YL with usual prm of short nx
items in SS, separated by short musical stingers and very detailed
t/cks (“6 de la manana, 9 minutos y 42 segundos!”). Nx item about
Federación Departamental de Choferes de La Paz seeking fare hike for
transportes publicos. Also an occasional CP folkloric selection, such
as at 1005 on 11/27, instl song featuring charango and pinkillos. Sig
is fine at tune-in but slowly degrades toward BOH as Fides fades down
and Asian fades-in better, increasing the QRM and het impact. Must
get up a little earlier one morning soon to hear the listed *0945.
Seem to keep missing that. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 6105.52, Radio Panamericana, La Paz, heard reasonably well
on 11/27 morning. Nothing on fqy at 1000 check, but at 1030 recheck
found station already broadcasting. Nice CP folkloric mx, instl
including quenas, pinkillos, guitar bass and charangos. At 1032,
musical ad block, including for some “instituto boliviano” and at 1035
an ad for “Discolandia, con la major calidad en la ciudad . . .”. At
1038, very brief ID by YL for “Radio Panamericana” and then into long
orchestral version of Bolivian national anthem (!), apparently the
formal s/on for this day.. At 1041, eco IDs f/by Spanish-style
plucked guitar music. 1045 seemed the start of a news program, by
which time signal was eroding. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 5952.43, Radio Pio Doce, 11/22 noted at 1035 with OM SS with
news pgm, good signal but noisy. Musical ads. (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR – 4781.69, Radio Oriental, the ‘old faithful’ of the 60 meter
band, lately, heard well 11/27. At 1053, while sitting on fqy
awaiting s/on, heard the trademark 5-second electrical burst of
‘gurgling’ xmtr sound, to test xmtr, which was then turned off again.
At 1057, abruptly came on with canned ads in progress, including a
singing commercial by YL for “Empresa Electric Ambato . . . mucho de
calidad”. Usual morning nx show started 1102 with the familiar lady
ancr in SS. (Perry, Illinois)

CUBA – 5025, Radio Rebelde, usual big, blaring signal at 1030 11/27,
but also a mystery to go with it. When Rebelde in talk, could hear
far below the Cuban signal the sound of an OM (sometimes a group)
talking excitedly, sometimes rhythmically, reminiscent of Andes
‘yipping’ heard during huayno refrains. While tempting to guess this
might have been R. Quillabamba, Peru, that seems way beyond being
extremely unlikely. Quickly checked some 60 m.b. benchmark OA
stations (Tarma 4775, Amauta 4955, etc.), which were found to already
be quite faded, by this time. So how could little brother station RQ
have enough signal to be heard thru Rebelde? Have no good guesses,
for now, but suspect this same phenomenon may be an artifact of the
Rebelde xmtr . . . and may have already been reported as RQ, in the
past. Needs work. (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings -- 19 Nov -- Ralph Perry

2012-11-19 Thread RALPH PERRY
BOLIVIA – 6154.95, Radio Fides, La Paz, 11/19 fair signal clear of QRM
and static at 0959 tune in, with morning news program already in
progress, hosted by YL. Included national, local and international
items (hrd items for Santa Cruz, Bolivia; La Paz; Peru; and the Middle
East -- “un nuevo bombardeo en Gaza, el dia de hoy”). Musical
stingers between items and very precise time checks regularly provided
by the YL, e.g. “Las 6 de la manana, 6 minutos y 42 segundos . . .”.
CP folkloric musical burst at 1008 during ads, then more news,
regional items for Bolivia. Het and other QRM building toward bottom
of the hour, as Fides began fading down and Asian QRMer fading up. By
1030, entire fqy was a mess and left the station. According to
station’s website, signs on *0945 and this first show runs to 1030,
called “Saratasiñani” and the host is Felipa Peña. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 6105.52, Radio Panamericana, La Paz, 11/19 monitored fqy for
s/on, from 0945 but nothing noted until 1036, when weak signal finally
noted and flute + guitar Bolivian folkloric music in progress.
Probably running to a nominal *1030 these days rather than the
reported *1000, as nothing there when checked a few minutes earlier.
Poor reception and only readable in ECSS. Het QRM from Asian on fqy
and at best could pick out the musical bits. Could not hold for long.
By 1045, all but lost. (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings -- 10 Nov -- Ralph Perry

2012-11-10 Thread RALPH PERRY
ECUADOR / BRAZIL – These two currently-active LA stations operate on *
nearly* the same precise fqy. For what it’s worth, I typically only
receive the HC station in the mornings, and the Brazilian usually during
local evenings, although this is by no means fixed in stone! Probably a
great example of why a precision-measured frequency (while a great *
additional* piece of investigative info when IDing a station) is usually
not enough, by itself, to ID a station.

4814.98 - Radio El Buen Pastor, Saraguro, Ecuador, noted here mornings and
often “fading up” only after 1045 or so, when it may be taking the air.
Not “fading up” due to propagation, but rather (I suspect), probably
reflecting the station tweaking / cranking up its xmtr for the broadcast
day. Heard again this morning 11/10 at 1052 t/in, best in ECSB, with
unmistakable Andes-themed music and OM t/ck in SS as “5 horas y 52 minutos,
5 y 52 . . . “ Blipping CODAR QRM and low modulation. At 1055, usual
calm, low-voiced locutor in SS. Fadey signal. (Perry, Illinois)

4814.97 – Radio Difusora de Londrina, Parana, Brazil, noted 0147 on 11/10
w/OM PP anmts and into religious-sounding choral mx. Fanfare at 0155, ID
anmt in echo. Again, CODAR QRM. Choir to 0159, more fanfare and echo
anmts in PP. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA – 4716.71, Radio 'Jatun Ayllu Yura', La Voz de los Ayllus, San
Antonio de Quijarro, luckily tuned-by at 0201 on 11/10 and noted upbeat CP
folk music with OM singer with guitar and a lovely Andes-sounding refrain
played on pinkillos. At 0204 OM ancr in SS with what I later figured out
was a closedown anmt. Waited 5 minutes for music to resume and then
realized Yura had already gone adios, hi. Usually hear this one, often and
usually much better signal, during local mornings after 1000. (Perry,
Illinois)

ECUADOR – 4781.68, Radio Oriental, tracking their morning slot many days
now and they are very, very reliably *1100. Sometimes a minute or two
before, or after, but a consistent daily visitor. Park on this fqy at 1050
and wait – you will hear a few very strong bursts of “burbly/gurgling”
RTTY-like rippling sound, which likely is R. Oriental testing their xmtr.
(Wonder if they co-own an xmtr also used for private commercial
communications?) Today, 11/10, abrupt s/on a minute late, signal not
initially great but then peaked around 1105 with excellent power. Morning
sports show with local ads. OM at 1105, “ . . . en el Mercado Central Tena
. . . son las seis de la manana y 6 minutos . . . Los Deportivos del Mundo
. . .” More time checks and then an ad for “Banco de Guayaquil, su banco
del barrio . . .” More musical commercials followed, but noise coming up
and signal lost by 1110. (Perry, Illinois)

UNID – 4824.50, 11/10 again noting open carrier appearing sometime after
1035 and holding on thru to TOH. Quick checks in the 1050-1105 period
never result in any programming being heard with certainty. No s/on at
1100 noted, unfortunately. As the propagation window from E. Peru widens,
am hopeful this may improve and eventually be reliably confirmed to be LV
Selva, which has been gone from 60 meters for more than a year. Needs
work. (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - 5 June - R Perry

2012-06-05 Thread Ralph Perry
UNID(BOLIVIA?) – 6154.93, interesting unid, apparently LA (and strongly suspect
R. Fides, La Paz, Bolivia).  First noted weakly 5/27
0120-0200+.  Pretty fair but muffled mod on 5/29 at 0115 when other benchmark
Bolivians barreling in
on 49 meters.   The signal’s fade-in and peak seem to nicely //
behavior of  5952.42 R. Pio Doce and
6134.83 R. Santa Cruz.  Decent QSA last night, 6/6, at 0040-0120+. but no ID
pulled yet.   Pgming quite nondescript, mainly MoR LA ballad-type music
or schlock pop, occasionally long tlks in definite SS by YL, such as at
ToH 0100. Also had male ancr in SS on 5/27.   Signal typically weak and only
fair at peak QSA,
muffled audio, and quite bad slop ex 6165 some nights starting arnd 0100.  Now
may be as good as it gets, to work this, since not good prospects here for
winter
reception -- darkness path to subcontinent allows AIR to often dominate this
fqy around this time.  Need more ears on this one – DXing partner Don
Jensen and I have been working this nightly for quite a few nights, but no
success pulling the ID yet.  Not noted running in parallel, with usual
lag, to R. Fides webstream’s pgming.  But of course, this observation
does not eliminate Fides possibility (stns often feed the web
independently of the SW feed), but would have been a nice way to nail this, had
a parallel been heard with the online pgming.  (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL – 6059.95 Super Radio Deus e Amor, Curitiba, lengthy ID and
fqy anmts 0900 on 5/28, into pgm of Brazilian pop ballads, OM PP anmts.  Noted
// 6120.01, but latter fqy much weaker.  (Perry, Illinois)

SOLOMON ISLANDS – 5019.88 Honiara with decent sig 1045 on 4/25 but
muffled, OM in EE with nx pgm, bursts of orchl mx.  Carrier was noted as early
at 0930 but no
modulation yet.  (Perry, Illinois)

COLOMBIA – 6010.08, LV de Tu Conciencia, Puerto Lleras, often
noted around 0730+, fair sig with guitar ballads and OM SS anmts, some rlg
choral mx.  OM inspirational tlks in SS.
Full IDs for “LV de Tu Conciencia” and fqy quotes, also.  Clear of usual
trouble from the OA at this
time, of late.  Usually I hear XEOI
Núcleo R Míl much better here, tho on the lower side of 6010.  (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] Fqy Typo Correction - Brazil

2012-03-28 Thread Ralph Perry
Correcting typo:

BRAZIL - 6069.97 (not 5069.97 - typo!), Radio Capital, Rio, lucky to bump into
this during a
temporary silent period for CFRX on 3/26, local Sun night / Mon morning, at
0843 random tune-by.  Very good signal with live-sounding OM in PP
giving discourse, perhaps recording of a live speech.  He occasionally
thumped podium to accentuate his points, hi..  0846 the studio ancr came in
with quick spot, in PP, and then speech resumed.  At 0850, CFRX
cranked back up and obliterated the fqy.  Interesting to note that CFRX was
there at 0800 tune-by.  (Perry, Illinois)

signal but deep in a sea of static and ambient noise at 1014 - 1035 t/o.  Same
two-man morning 'noticiero' in SS previously noted in Feb..  OMs alternate
items with musical stingers in-between.  Frequent time checks and mentions of
Llallagua, Oruro, Bolivia, etc.  If my local noise from recent rain showers
abates a bit, signal should be highly readable and improved during current

[HCDX] DX Loggings - R Perry - 6 March 2012

2012-03-06 Thread Ralph Perry
PERU - 5120.01, presumed Ondas del Suroriente, Quillabamba, hrd 3/6 1057-1120
t/o, strongish signal at tune in, altho bathed in heavy static and bothered by
a pulsing utility station..  1057  OM in SS and then into pleasant 2-man choral
huayno with charango and guitars. 1101 t/ck for 'seis horas' by sleepy-voiced
OM -- no passion for the job at all, it seemed, hi -- and long anmt, possibly
program preview, as hrd mentions of 'programacion diaria' and 'su sintonia'.
1104 morning folklorica show resumed, very rustic huayno with YL and thumping
bass notes and fiddles.  Signal already starting to fade.  Another t/ck at 1110
in SS, clearly 10 minutos and then again more musica nacional Peruana.
Already getting lost in a sea of static by now and nearly completely gone by
1120, tuning out after two more songs and more t/ck anmts..  Reception bet in
ECSS-LSB.  Pesky ute on top of fqy, clicking away, but the Quillabamba station
quite workable despite
the ute.  Have seen listings of this with 1030 s/on, in which case may be much
better heard a half hour earlier than today.   Never caught an ID, but am quite
certain about this one. (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 6134.82, Radio Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, very nice signal
strength 2/29 0924-0937 and even better at 1028 recheck.  QRM gone from the
fqy, at least this morning, tho plenty of static from local rainstorm.   Some
kind of morning world news show, mentions of Noticiero Madrugada and local
time checks as .  ..cinco de la manana y __ minutos, 5 y 27 en Santa Cruz . .
.   Coverage of the Michigan presidential primary and also of an earthquake
(terramoto).  Occasional musical pgm breaks,e.g. a three minute song of
Bolivian uptempo ballad with accordion and guitar at 0927 and then back to the
news.  At 1028 recheck, changed over to a female ancr who mentioned en
Bolivia! over a charango riff.  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 5952.42, Radio Pio Doce, Llalagua, 1018 on 2/29 with SS nx by two OM,
alternating their items.  Mentions of Bolivia with fair signal and musical
stingers at end of items. (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 6059.94, Super Radio Deus E Amor, Curitiba, the one here at 0914 with
a good signal, OM in PP and ad for insurance company, t/cks and good morning
show.  Noted the telltale parallel fqys of 9564.89 kHz (fair signal only) and
11765.00 kHz (terrific signal).  This one has been quite stable on this precise
off-fqy of 6059.94, so if you are hearing an LA station here before 1100 and
can measure to that precise fqy, dollars to doughnuts you have Super Radio D E
A.  The Peruvian on this approx fqy, Aroma Cafe Radio, only signs on sometime
after 1100 and is very stable on it's own signature precision fqy, a little
higher up, of 6059.99.   (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 22 Feb

2012-02-22 Thread Ralph Perry

PERU - 6173.89, presumed Radio Tawantinsuyu, Cusco, hrd 2/22 1008 tune-in and
holding up past 1052.  Weak to fair signal strength only.  Reception best with
narrowest bandwidth and in ECSS-LSB with notch deployed to knock out annoying
het from Asian station on 6175.00.  Couple OMs alternating in SS and
occasionally presumed QQ.  Odd programming this morning, no music at all, and
at first mistakenly thought might be taped replay from sporting event, from
night before (had a bit of that kind of cadence to the announcements).  But
then noted many clear, livet/cks in a doubling-up kind pattern throughout
entire program of   . . . las cinco de la manana, las cinco de
la manana, amigos oyentes.  Adelante!! . . .  (almost as if the minutes didn't
matter, hi.)  So, was a live bcst.  Most of the time, only fragments of speech
were decipherable, such as at 1017, . . . muy buenos dias, Cusco . . . la
primera voz . . . de la patria . . .   Taped ads were noted at 1024 and 1047,
during which hrd different, more bassy-voiced man in studio echo effect.
Almost sounded like live feed from remote, but at 5:30 a.m. in Cusco that
doesn't make too much sense. Not sure what this was, but could have been live
feed from Ash Wednesday morning procession or something else like that.  Back
in the day this would have likely been a peticiones program, with greetings
being passed to remote family members and friends.   In any event, very nice to
hear them poking a hole in the ether, been trying to hear them ever since I
reactivated on SWBC DXing a year ago.  First time heard by me in 25 years and
always a sentimental
station, as I visited them at Avenida del Sol back in 1976.   Will be
diligently patrolling this fqy in the mornings now and hoping for better
conditions soon.  (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 22 Feb (Resending)

2012-02-22 Thread Ralph Perry
Seems there was a glitch with my email this morning, so resending this item fyi:

PERU - 6173.89, presumed Radio Tawantinsuyu, Cusco, hrd 2/22 1008 tune-in and
holding up past 1052.  Weak to fair signal
strength only.  Reception best with narrowest bandwidth and in ECSS-LSB
with notch deployed to knock out annoying het from Asian station on
6175.00.  Couple OMs alternating in SS and occasionally presumed QQ.
Odd programming this morning, no music at all, and at first mistakenly
thought might be taped replay from sporting event, from night before
(had a bit of that kind of cadence to the announcements).  But then
noted many clear, livet/cks in a doubling-up kind pattern throughout entire
program of   . . .
las cinco de la manana, las cinco de
la manana, amigos oyentes.  Adelante!! . . .  (almost as if the minutes didn't
matter, hi.)  So, was a live bcst.  Most of the time, only
fragments of speech were decipherable, such as at 1017, . . . muy
buenos dias, Cusco . . . la primera voz . . . de la patria . . .
Taped ads were noted at 1024 and 1047, during which hrd different, more
bassy-voiced man in studio echo effect.   Almost sounded like live feed
from remote, but at 5:30 a.m. in Cusco that doesn't make too much sense. Not
sure what this was, but could have been live feed from Ash
Wednesday morning procession or something else like that.  Back in the
day this would have likely been a peticiones program, with greetings
being passed to remote family members and friends.   In any event, very
nice to hear them poking a hole in the ether, been trying to hear them
ever since I reactivated on SWBC DXing a year ago.  First time heard by me in
25 years and always a sentimental station, as I visited them at
Avenida del Sol back in 1976.   Will be diligently patrolling this fqy
in the mornings now and hoping for better conditions soon.  (Perry,
Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 17 Feb

2012-02-17 Thread Ralph Perry
GUYANA - 3289.99, The Voice of Guyana / Guyana Broadcasting Corp., Georgetown.
Very nice signal 2/17 0750 past 0835.  Not rare DX by any means, but highly
enjoyable tuning, esp when they are barreling in, such as this date.  Noted
with BBC relay at tune-in, which lasted until 0800, when local ancr OM said,
It is now 4 hours in Guyana . . . this is the Voice of Guyana, broadcasting on
560 kiloHertz in the medium wave band . . . and 102.5 megaHertz in FM stereo in
Guyana . . .  Then a very nice choral national anthem to formally start their
local broadcast day, sounding almost hymnlike.  At 0404, live deejay again,
Good morning, everyone! This is the V-O-G, the Voice of Guyana.  The
Broadcasting Corporation of Guyana has its broadcasting house located at . . .
and on 760 kiloHertz in the medium wave band . . . It is now 4 hours 4
minutes.  Tuned away but on return at 0835, signal had further improved and
delightful Hindi musical program in
 progress.  (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 4877.02, presumed Roraima (no ID) booming in at 0850 on 2/17.  0859 OM
in echo with Bom dia! but no ID noted.  at 0900 into a two-man show in PP,
probably the news.  Seems they may have, at long last, finished fixing their
xmtr problems? Modulation quite okay this morning.  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 4699.32,  Radio San Miguel, Riberalta, noted 2/15 with fair signal
and OM with local t/ck and the usual bottom of the barrel microphone sound to
his SS anmts. Into cumbias at 0944. (Perry, Illinois)

Correcting a 2/6 (other dates okay) local t/ck transcription error in previous
log, pls replace . . . Peru still GMT-5, hi:

PERU - 6059.99,  Aroma Cafe Radio,  heard on 6,7 and 8 Feb.  Typically the
buzzsaw-sound open carrier noted before the hour, prior to a variable nominal
*1100.  Noted already in progress at 1108 on 2/6 with folklorica program,
plenty of rustic huayno music with arpas, sicu-sicu, quenas, guitar.  Ads by YL
in SS with piano mx underneath at 1110.  1123 . . . las 6 de la manana y 23
minutos . . then into more huaynos w/ arpa and bass guitar.  1124.44 CRI open
carrier blotted out most of fqy, but could still hear a little bit of the OA
underneath.  On 2/7 was an *1101 s/on, noting OM ancr and then NA and then
again following pattern and going into morning Andes sunrise pgm.  Best on 2/8,
big buzzsaw o/c at 1055 tune-in, nothing noted thru 1104 when briefly tuned
away.  At 1109 retune, OA NA already in progress. 1110 YL with nice clear
Transmite Aroma Cafe Radio . . .  with chimes or piano notes, and then
straight into same morning folkloric
programming.  At 1115, nice t/ck by locutora as La 6 de la manana y 15 con
Aroma Cafe Radio . . .  and again at 1120.  Seems consistently a female
announcer of late and a folkloric music pgm, different from the fare being
reported not too long ago, which was I think was reported as a relay of their
FM signal.  (Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 4955, Radio Cultural Amauta, Huanta, best signal on 60 meters this
morning of 2/10 at 1035 with rustic huayno selection featuring simple guitar
plucking and YL singer.  Segued into another plucked guitar huayno but with a
small chorus of women. Rechecked at 1054 and still in folklorica program.
This was a pretty good morning for the Andes, also noting 5039 Junin, 4775
Tarma blowing in. (Perry, Illinois)

HONDURAS - 3250 HRPC, Radio Luz Y Vida, San Luis, hymn-like music fading up at
1130 f/by OM ancr in SS at 1131 (may have been opening anmts this date, not
sure).  Very weak modulation but decent carrier strength.  1133 into religious
music and OM giving inspirational talk, seemed a mix of religion and
patriotism, equally as many references to El Senor as to nuestra patria.
Pattern was OM spoke, then paused as music cranked up, and then down, when he
started speaking again.  Rinse and repeat, hi!  Modulation improved a bit as
xmtr warmed up, but was fighting a losing battle with my local sunrise and the
rising D-layer absorption.  Almost gone by 1140.  (Perry, Illinois)

LAOS - Lao National Radio, Vientiane, nice signal 1255 tune in on 2/11, EZL
local Lao vocals with full instrumental accompaniment, local melodies.  1258
into Lao pop vocal, OM with small combo, straight out of a rural S E Asian
night club, hi.  Music ran thru the ToH, then at 1301 a burst of a pounding,
disco-type electronic beat f/by OM with lengthy anmts in Lao.  Perhaps a news
summary.  1305 music resumed with more Western-sounding guitar ballads, love
songs by OM, but rendered in Lao.  At same time/date, 7110 Myanma Radio also
really pounding in.  These two make for some wonderful morning listening, take
advantage while they are available!   (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 4 February

2012-02-04 Thread Ralph Perry
ECUADOR - 3810, HD2IOA, time signal station in Guayaquil, nice signal 1024 on
1/31 with usual format of OM, Al oir el tono, seran las cinco 24 minutos . .
f/by pip!  Every 10 seconds he announces the local time.  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 5952.41, Radio Pio Doce, 1035 on 1/31 with fair signal, clear fqy tho
hissing ambient noise on band this day for me.  Morning 'noticiero' in SS by
OM, frequent mnts of Bolivia, 1043 YL noted and into taped ad string.  Also
noted 1029 on 2/1 with OM in commentary.  Quite reliable in the mornings
lately, not sure how long this will hold up.  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 4699+ (sri, forgot to measure precision fqy), R San Miguel,
Riberalta, nice signal 1015 on 1/31, OM SS nx show with 'bottom of the barrel'
voice sound.  Pretty good Andes morning, with vy nice signals from all the
regulars like 4775 Tarma, 4790 Vision, 5039+ Junin, 6134+ Sta Cruz..  (Perry,
Illinois)

BRAZIL - 5990.00 Radio Senado, 0948 with ranchera mx pgm, brilliant signal
1/31.  0957 vals with YL and organ.  1000 OM and guitar and then full blown ID
sequence, mtning SW fqy.  1001 'Happy Birthday' song and then OM in PP about
the station's anniversary, which has been well publicized already for DXers.
(Perry, Illinois)

UNID - 4845.25, new LA occupant on the bands this past week, noted 1005+
whenever ute pauses.  Accordian mx, big splash from 4840.  Suspect a Brazilian
but nothing yet to hang hat on.(Perry, Illinois)

MYANMAR - 7110 Myanma Radio, almost a daily visitor around 1300 with EZL local
hits.  Thanks once again to Ronnie Howard for the tip on this one.  No luck
yet, tho, with 5770 Defense station . . .  (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - January 20

2012-01-20 Thread Ralph Perry
PERU - 6059.99t, tentatively Aroma Cafe Radio.  Again heard weakly this morning
1/20.  Am now becoming very confident this is indeed the new onein Distrito de
Pichanaki, Provincia Cajamarca, Dpto. de Junin.  No ID yet but the fit is
becoming strong.  As previously noted, signed on late, well after 1100.  Fading
in and out and very poor modulation.  Need ECSS to copy decently.  Today seemed
to fade up (as if xmtr being warmed up and modulation being cranked up) about
1114, when hrd with OM anmts in SS. Seemed en eco and perhaps this was the
opening anmt.  Very noisy today and poor signal, but clearly noting yipping YL
and fragments of OA folklorica music thru to 1123, when big QRM carrier blotted
out the Peruvian.  Have only today noted that Pedro Arrunategui in his initial
logs of this new one, also measured to a precision fqy of 6059.99 -- same as I
independently determined.  (I was previously unaware of this.)  By the way,
stuck around
to ID the QRMing station and indeed, it is RCI with their Tagalog pgm.  Very
small window for DXers to bag this one during local mornings.  I expect this
should come in nicely down in South Florida, etc. (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR - 4918.98, Radio Quito, me too on this one.  Bumped into big signal
this morning 1/20 at 1033, program of OM and YL in SS but mainly indigenous
language (probably Quechua), reading items punctuated with bursts of musica
ecuatoriana.  Pgm ran to 1054 when nice ID, then orchestral version of HC
national anthem (long form, with prelude, chorus, vocal middle section and
grand wrap-up).  Again, ID for Radio Quito afterward and then at 1100, into
news show which sounded like  Noticiero Ecuadoradio (?) presented by YL in
SS.  After 1100, signal was much improved music.  A few times hrd some RTTY
mixing with RQ, on same channel -- almost seemed same xmtr as R Quito.  I
wonder if they are sharing a utility transmitter for SW and using one of the
sidebands for broadcast?   (Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 6059.99,  Aroma Cafe Radio,  pls note that Distrito de Pichanaki is in
Provincia de Chanchamayo (not Cajamarca as previously indicated), in the
Departamento de Junin.  Good luck to all going after this, as we seem to have a
short window within which this one is available, bounded by 1100++  s/on time
and by the arrival of overwhelming co-channel QRM 1120a-1129!   Anyone know if
this station has any affiliation with the Cafe Peru social welfare

UNID -  6059.99, thanks gh for clarification.  Didn't stay on the fqy more than
a few moments, once the new signal obliterated my unid and had assumed --
perhaps incorrectly -- that it was RN Venezuela as per Aoki . . . but frankly,
had no real interest to determine.  So, for now, a stronger Unid covering up my
weaker, more interesting, Unid!  (Perry, Illinois)

Subject: DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 19 January

UNID / (PERU?) - 6059.99, weak
LA station noted 1116 on 1/19, SS not PP anmts.  Pgm of pop ballads and
plenty of anmts by super-fast-talking OM in SS.  Needed ECSS-LSB to
optimize reception.  Blotted out at 1129 by big signal from RN Venezuela (that
is, unless earlier station actually WAS the YV bcstr, which
suddenly did a beam or power change for 1130 . . . but tend to think
not, as earlier station sounded much more like a commercial station.)
Would be great if this was the new Peruvian, Aroma Cafe Radio, but needs a lot
of work.  Open carrier noted here at 1055 the day before, so
station may be signing on at *1100.   (Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR - 4814.98, Radio El Buen Pastor, 1/2 at 1106 with HC pasillos featuring
guitars and piano, YL singers.  Usual high-voiced OM ancr with timecheck at
1108, then back into pleasant program of folklorico mx.  Fair sig with usual
blipping ute QRM.  One of the only places on the band to hear wonderful HC
folkloric music, the other being HCJB - Pichincha on 6050 kHz.  Speaking of
that, what is the source of the unid signal hetting HCJB at approx 6050.84,
many mornings?  Can never raise audio from it but certainly tantalizing.
(Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 4876.48, presumed Roraima, noted most mornings as early as 0930 and
holding on past 1015 checks.  As always, decent signal strength but very
problematic modulation.  Ballads noted early (0930 segment) and news talk show
1015 and thereabouts,  (Perry, Illinois)

HONDURAS - 3250.06, Radio Luz Y Vida with fair signal and light het on 1/17 at
1140, high pitched OM with talks re La Biblia.  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 4699.33, Radio San Miguel, Riberalta, 1/18 at 1008 thru 1029, fair
signal and muffled mod with that bottom of the barrel sound, hi.  1014 seemed
like a regional news segment with light echo.  Clear mtns of Bolivia, and then,
at 1016 ...las seis de la manana y 16 minutos con la musica de la madrugada en
San Miguel . . ..   Into nondescript vocals.  Ad string at 1028 but couldn't
pick up any product names. (Perry, Illinois)

PERU -
4774.95, Radio Tarma, 1/18 noted at 1030 check with good signal but under
thick pulse hute.  YL huayno with guitar, to 1032 OM ancr.  (Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 5038.18, Radio Libertad de Junin, came here from Tarma on 1/18 at 1035
and found fairly good signal, certainly best Andean signal on the band.
Morning folklorico program, nice huaynos with yipping singers backed by
guitars.  At 1040 reverb taped ads followed by very nice, live ID by OM:
...en la ciudad de Junin, amables oyentes, ustedes escuchando a Radio Libertad
. . . esperando le gusta . . . la musica nacional . .   Then into huayno with
YL and guitar.    (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 31 Dec

2012-01-01 Thread Ralph Perry
Happy New Year to All DXers in 2012!

BRAZIL - 5970, Radio Itatiaia, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, good sig 2240
12/30 with ID.  Early fade-in as befits far SE Brazil QTH. (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 6059.96, Super Radio Deus e Amor, Curitiba, 2300 on 12/30 OM clear ID
for Super Radio Deus e Amor and then into pgm of PP pop love songs featuring
YL with orch.  Big booming signal, easy listening.   None of the SRDE  //  fqys
noted coming through at this time.  (Perry, Illinois)

UNID / BRAZIL? - 6020.00, during same general period as above, was noting unid
station on 6020.00 with MOR mx and a weak/fair signal, fadey on clear fqy.
Soft modulation.  Suspect Brazilian from propagation (nice opening this
date/time) and pgming but unsure -- perhaps R Gaucha, Pto Alegre, but needs
more work.  That fqy precision makes me think twice, tho, hi.   (Perry,
Illinois)

MEXICO - 6009.96, Radio Mil, Mexico City, to answer question recently posed on
a DXer user group, yes, XEOY is still here.  Noted 1022 on 12/31 with SS pop
vocals.  Good signal after phasing away the co-channel crud.  Lite het was
un-notchable.  Segued songs to 1028 ID by OM, En Radio Mil, muy buenos dias y
cordiales saludos, amables oyentes . . .  Mexico . . .   (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 30 Dec

2011-12-30 Thread Ralph Perry
BRAZIL - 5990, Radio Senado, terrific reception this week, very early, noted
several mornings blowing in with a big signal on nice clear fqy.  12/29 at 0755
with PP pop song, f/by taped ID extravaganza at 0801, with chimes, OM in echo,
mentions of fqys and ondas curtas, Bom Dia! and another ID as Radio Senado,
a música regional de. . .  Then into a pgm of ranchera-like musical
selections.   Also pinning the S-meter needle at 0959 on 12/30. (Perry,
Illinois)

BRAZIL - 4865.03, Radio Verdes Florestas, Cruz do Sul, signal holding up quite
late most mornings, from approx 1000 s/on to nearly 1100, and at times,
surprisingly, the best Latin in the 60 mb here.  Hrd 12/29 w/segued ballads, no
amnts at all until 1055 when into an ID sequence --  live OM with clear Radio
Verdes Florestas! ID and then YL with canned ID and fqys run-down.
Propagation on this one behaves much more like a Peruvian than aBrazilian,
thanks to far western Brazil  QTH.  Holds up long after other Brazilians like
4885 have faded away.  (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 5955.00, unid Brazilian but suspect the listed Radio Gazeta, Sao
Paolo, but no clear ID yet.  Noted with classic US pops (Doors: Love Her
Madly) at 1020, then into long telephone interview by studio ancr and remote
interviewee in PP.  1029 another fairly strong station came on fqy, but signals
were exactly zerobeated so no het trouble, but difficult to listen to anyway.
(Perry, Illinois).

UNID LA - 4875.46, mountain of garbage on this fqy in the mornings this week,
but underneath it all seems an LA broadcaster, with badly distorted modulation
and potentially spurious.  Believe lang is PP, so likely a Brazilian.  Noted
several mornings about 1015.  Ute on fqy and het make this even tougher.  Not
sure what this is, but interesting . . . haven't heard anything on this fqy of
late.   Anyone?  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 5952.37, everyone's favorite CP mining town station, Radioemisoras
Pio XII, Oruro, hrd with nx show in progress at 1010 on 12/27.   Never an easy
logging, this one is much more likely of late to be heard in early local
evenings than in the mornings.  (Perry, Illinois)

ETHIOPIA - 9705.00, R. Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, hrd 1947-2020 on 12/15 on a nice
precise fqy.   Initially heard underneath Family Radio Meyerton on same fqy,
which thankfully clears out after ToH.  Good signal by 2010 with pleasant pgm
of Horn of Africa style pops and jazz.  OM ancr in EE and presumed Amharic.
(Perry, Illinois)

LAOS - 6130 RN Lao, Vientiane'  Highlight of the month has been the reemergence
of this one, loggable on many mornings.  Was best in early Dec, after Chuck
Rippel tip, but still hearing this week tho not as well as earlier in Dec (12 /
3,4,5,6).  Propagation window for here opens up around 1245 and holds thru
1300+,  tho was hearing as early as 1230 in early Dec.  Best signal was on 12/4
with very enjoyable pgm of Laotian pop music --  very familiar to me after my
years of working in Laos.  Very enjoyable programming!   Usually tones on the
hour, but one time noted playing straight thru on a local Sun nite in Laos.
(Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 5039.38, Radio Libertad de Junin, noted many mornings this month with
poor-fair signal, often opening day's xmsn around *1000.  Noted on 12/1 with
taped organ and echo-voiced ID anmt at 1001 and then live ancr from 1004.
Interestingly,. this one seems to have become the most reliable Peruvian in the
60 mb for me this winter, taking the crown from  nominal 4790 R Vision de
Chiclayo, which has been missing in action.   Am hearing Junin more frequently
even than R. Tarma on nominal 4775.  Unfortunately, it's a matter of this one
being the best of a bad lot, as other Peruvians are just not coming thru very
well this month . . .  (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 1 Oct

2011-10-01 Thread Ralph Perry
PERU -  4774.95, thanks to all for help in determining that R Tarma is
apparently the Peruvian here in the mornings.  Was hoping for something more
surprising  /interesting than this favorite Andes station, but IDs of R Tarma
by several fellow DXers of the broadcasts on this precise fqy seem to leave
little in doubt.  Thanks to Thomas N, Dario M, Pedro A and Henrik K!   Last
winter I was able to hear R Tarma with very nice signals, quite often, so
eventually I also should be able to hear an ID to set my mind at ease, too,
hi.   Yesterday hrd this station again, not  even a third as strong as I've
heard R Tarma in the past, but with clear cinco de la manana . . . t/cks
during the 1000 hour and also references to . . . nuestra programacion de la
musica nacional . . .   One other question remains to be answered, though:
just how many live pgm streams does R Tarma produce?  I previously would have
thought just one, relayed on AM, FM and
onda corta.  But at least one morning this week, I noted unique, independent
programming 'live' on onda corta versus the live webcast's program.  Surprising
to hear a morning folklorico pgm with live t/cks on the
shortwave fqy, and then a second, unique (not the O.C. being relayed)
morning folklorico pgm with live t/cks on the webstream. The shortwave
programming was the beloved, very funky tuba huayno type, featuring what could
only be recordings of a small Andean village's folkloric marching band.  On the
other hand, the webcast carried music that I'd call techno-folklorico, being
very fast-paced huaynos, staccato and endlessly repetitive, on synthesizer with
electronic percussion.   Rather unpleasant stuff, at least for my ears, as I am
a traditionalist in this regard, hi.   What is this world coming to?  hi    The
R Tarma website seems to indicate shared programming for AM and FM.   I have
written them to try and sort this out . . .  (Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 29 Sep

2011-09-29 Thread Ralph Perry
UNID ANDES (PERU?) -  4774.95, very interesting (ie, non-Tarma?) situation
here.  Noted weakly at 1000+ past 1045, peaking to fair QSA at 1035 or so but
then diving and nearly done at 1045, on 9/28 and 9/29, better on latter
morning.  Only fair signal at peak with prototypical Andes morning folklorico
pgm, featuring very rustic fare:  funky huaynos with guitars, bass, yipping
vocalists, quenas and fiddles, etc.  Almost entirely segued programming, very
few anmts.  This type of musica del campo sounds rather Southern Peruvian to
me, but that's just a guess.  High-pitched OM live deejay anmt in SS at 1025
with t/ck and probable fqy/ID (could only make out ... de la manana y
minutos and kiloHertz).  Quick canned ad also noted at 1043 with OM and YL
interchange, couldn't get much more.  Bad atmospheric noise, thanks to Sol and
his flare.   NOTE:  List-loggers would immediately point to Radio Tarma, but
(a) this station certainly doesn't
sound to me as slick an operation as R. Tarma, although RT would have an
amanecer andino type pgm around this time; (b) the RT 'live' webstream was NOT
relaying this 4774.95 signal -- and last time I heard Radio Tarma (with 100%
ID) was in Feb 2011 . . . and at that time,  the onda corta signal was being
relayed via the webstream (with the online pgmming delayed by a minute or
two).  (c) There has been a report out of Europe of an LA on 4774.96 as Radio
Tarma, but I perhaps was only a presumed ID, don't know.  While this may indeed
turn out to be Tarma,  feels less than 50/50 to me, so a very interesting
mystery . . . Best case is a new station here on this fqy.

PROPAGATION THOUGHTS:  Have recognized a propagation pattern in the
past, of enhanced morning reception on the LA/USA circuit,  better
signals out of the LA and esp. the Andes,  one or more days after a
major solar flare, when the SF, A and K indexes are all moving downward
and back toward 'normal' ranges.  Not so much the absolute value of the
indices, it seems, but rather the direction (downward) and magnitude of index
movements.  Presumably, in the aftermath of the
flare, things are settling down 24-72 hours later and I suspect
ionospheric conditions perhaps pass through an optimal range that
enhances  USA/Andes during this period.  This is fo course not hard science,
just
a seat-of-the-pants type observation.  But based on that underlying view, I've
been hitting the
predawn 60 meter band this week, looking for a better morning opening to
Peru, etc., in the aftermath of the dramatic solar events we've been
seeing.  But so far haven't seen anything extraordinary as Solar Flux
and the rest have been hanging around at elevated levels due to repeated
events on the sun.  Have seen SF numbers for the past several days at
168, 138, 133 and still-elevated A and K Index numbers, too.  But if my
casual past observations hold true, I am still hopeful for a nice
morning of Andes signals in the next few days, as SF finally rides on
down to a more normal level, along with the A and K indices.  In the
meantime, can report progress as we've gone from almost no signals other
than the mega-xmtrs on the 60 mb. band (mornings ago) . . .  to
stations showing up again tho not strong yesterday . . . to better sig
levels today.  The progression is at least a positive one.  (Perry,
Illinois)

[HCDX] Fw: DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 13 Sep 2011

2011-09-13 Thread Ralph Perry

BRAZIL - 4865.02, tentatively R Alvorada, Londrina:  my previous unid from
July, heard much better today, is definitely a Brazilian (was hoping Logos!) .
. . .  Noted poor to fair signal again this morning, 9/13,  from 0946-0957with
very under-modulated signal and usual pgm of OM narrating or preaching in
lengthy monologue, punctuated by bursts of orchestral or hymn-like music.  At
this point, still unreadable insofar as useful pgm detail, even land (SS or
PP?)   But with 60 meters staying alive later now, with the impending Fall, was
able to recheck at 1020.  Still there and with a  signal had peaked
substantially.  Much more readable, tho still low modulation.  100 pct clearly
PP and t/cks matching Brazil, also.  At this time, a studio news magazine
program was in progress, with phone-ins from listeners and live reports from
remote correspondents.   Still good at 1035 but still no clear ID.  Anticipate
most likely will be the familiar R
Alvorada, Londrina, although must be aware that there were also reports
(confirmed?) in June out of Europe of a R Verdes Florestas, Cruz do Sul, on
this same fqy.  (Perry - Illinois)

ANDES BANDSCAN -  Hurray, finally a relatively decent opening into the Andes on
60 meters this morning, 9/13, hopefully signalling the start to a nice LA DX
season for us in the USA.  5039.18 R. Libertad de Junin, Peru, with fair to
good QSA at 1036, deejay talking over mellow musical background.  4814.98 R El
Buen Pastor with a nice signal at 1049 tune-bay, fetching sanjuanito in
progress.  4789++ presumed R Vision, Chiclayo, decent signal but het and QRM
underneath ute at 1051.  Didn't notice other usual suspects like R Tarma or R
Huanta 2000, which were my 'markers' for decent Andes openings last winter . .
. Already making plans for tomorrow morning and lining up better OA/HC/CP
targets!  (Perry - Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 12 Sep 2011

2011-09-12 Thread Ralph Perry
UNID/PERU? - 4955.00, call it unid but extremely likely R Cultural Amauta,
Huanta, at 1038 9/11 with segued instl MOR selections leading up to OM SS anmts
1045 over the front end of a pop song.  More OM SS anmts at 1049.   First
decent opening to the Andes in a bit -- other regional stations noted coming in
well, see next item.   Very nice fqy precision if indeed Amauta, as they've
usually missed by .01 at 4954.99 kHz.  (Perry - Illinois)

PERU - 5039.19,  Radio Libertad de Junin, good signal at 1051 check on 9/11
after noting likely Amauta, a favorite and first time heard in a little while.
Local sunrise finally getting late enough so that LA stations signing on later
than *1000 have a chance to be hrd in IL.  Interesting selections of modern,
mellow Andes fusion instrumentals, featuring deeply reverbed  fiddles,
pinkillos, quenas and arpa, in a familiar huayno-type melody.  Segued to
another 1055 and OM ID at the top of the hour.   Very happy this station keeps
hanging in there, one of our most beloved old-timers from OA Land, along with
the likes of R Tawantinsuyu 6175a and a few others . . .  Evidently Junin is
quite an unattractive town, though, at least as described in the new
travel+history book ANDES by Michael Jacobs.  Sure is pretty on the 60 meter
band, however!  (Perry - Illinois)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - 3385, Radio East New Britain, Rabaul, well heard 9/10
1115-1130 and again 9/11 at 1125.  Other 90 meter PNGs not noted, however.  PNG
island style choral pops, some selections of syncopated dance mx, OM pidgin
anmts.  On 9/11 hrd with lush island chorals.  Always fun to listen to Rabaul,
takes me back to the 1960s!  (Perry - Illinois)

ECUADOR - 4814.98, R. El Buen Pastor, 1030 with HC pasillos, weak signal and
bad static.  1042 t/ck by OM and then into sermon in SS.  (Perry - Illinois)

ETHIOPIA - 9705.01, tent R. Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, noted weakly at the close of
transmission on 8/31 at 2055, closing anmts in progress and into a choral NA at
2059.  Carrier cut at 2101.45.  No ID but a nice fit with Ethiopia's
schedule/fqy profile.  Still a bit early for decent propagation on 31 meters,
give this a few more weeks for much more enjoyable tuning. (Perry - Illinois)

BRAZIL - 4925.24, presumably R. Educacao Rural, Tefe, now heard many mornings
with best signal in the band but IDs elusive.   On 9/7 heard with telephone-in
show, YL in studio and callers weaker.  On 9/8 routine morning musical
programming with polka-like instls and OM PP anmts. 9/11 at 1009 tune in, again
telephone show with listeners.  Can't catch an ID yet but is sure to come as
signal is there almost every morning lately, vying with 4885 as champion of the
Brazilians, hi.  (Perry - Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - Ralph Perry - 22 July 2011

2011-07-22 Thread Ralph Perry
BOLIVIA:  4865.01-.03v, tentatively Radio Logos, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, with
a fair signal and slightly wandering fqy many mornings, lately.  Hrd as early
as 0930 on 7/20 on 4865.01, but more often showing up closer to 1000 GMT.
Signal can hold up as late as 1030+ some days.  Noted Jul 9, 12, 19, 20, 21,
22.  Pgming fairly consistent:  Mellow and nondescript canciones --
instrumentals but more frequently SS vocalists (possibly Christian SS pops)
with organ + bass or else other sparse instrumentation.  Many tunes segued.  OM
ancr occasionally between songs, mike is very muffled and undermodulated,
extremely difficult to read.  Typical snippets like OM mentioning of la musica
. . . siempre por todos . . . la Biblia . . . onda corta  . . .  Can't hear an
actual s/on or NA which would really help, but everything consistent with past
profile for R Logos and propatation seems to // performance of other E
Bolivians like R. Santa Cruz on 49 mb
(when one good, the others doing okay, also).  Usually a het and best heard in
ECSS-LSB + notch.  (Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA:  4699.95, Radio San Miguel, Riberalta, 7/20 0920-0940 t/o, tropical
rhythms and fair QSA above the noise.  Deep voiced OM at 0924, cranking up the
modulation, Muy buenos dias . . . las cinco de la manana con 24 minutes . .
.:  Guitar strumming and OM singing balada next.  Frequent t/cks and more
guitar vocals.  Also nice signal 7/21 at 1000 with SS OM IDing at ToH.  Fair
sign 7/22 past 1000.   60 meter band starting to come to life again in the
mornings, as the daylight comes later to the central USA . . . starting to note
the familiar Andean xmtrs like 4815 HC, 4790 and 4747 and 4825 OA, etc.  New DX
season on the way.  (Perry, Illinois)

UNID:  6025.06, unid Latin.   Noted 7/21 at 0045-0120 t/o on ECSS-LSB, very bad
splatter from both side channels (6020/6030).  Mellow pops / baladas, romantic
canciones seguied to ToH.  Splatter crescendoed at 0056 thru 0100 and lost;
back again 0102 with more segued instrumentals.  0112 OM with muffled anmts in
SS.  Don't believe R Amanecer as that one has held to a signature exact fqy of
6025.13 and is usually much stronger.  Suspected a possible Radio Patria
Nueva, La Paz, Bolivia, reported here, but this station not // the CP's web
streaming bcst, for whatever that's worth.   An interesting puzzle to work on.
(Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL:  5970, Radio Itatiaia, Belo Horizonte, channel clear at 0900 when noted
with recorded ad string in progress and then live ancr at 0905 in PP, Bom
dia!  Transmite Radio Itataia . . .com a música que você ama!  Long live anmt
by OM in PP.   Good opening to Brazil 7/21, also noting presumed Radio
Congonhas at 0915 with mellow orchls.   Also, 4915 Brazilian blaring in
0922-0940, beautiful signal, best in band, OM PP anmts interspersed with
guitar+xylo music (cranked up and down by ancr).  Hymnlike selections next and
at 0932, horn version of What A Friend We Have in Jesus (like the old
interval signal for, what was it, Trans World Radio?)  Stayed with it but stn
refused to ID!  Dunno if Macapa or Daqui? (Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 6007.01, unid Brazilian stn 0855-0920 on 7/5, only audible due to
Canadian powerhouse CFRX 6070 being off air this early this morningr. (Need to

such as for maintenance or licensing reasons.) Btrazilian outlet hrd with a

by OM in eco, which sounded very much like, . . .está sintonizado Radio

MEXICO - 6009.95, Radio Mil back and the OA again blotting out this fqy as of
7/1. First noted weakly at 0940 tune-in with quick, clear ID by OM (burst out,
simply, with Radio Mil !). By 1025 recheck, was totally bombing in with pops
and t/cks, as strong as ever. Nice listening station, actually. The 6010.04
unid previously hrd, weakly, not noted, nor the usual heterodyne mess. Suspect
that one was indeed R. Inconfidencia, uncovered by Mil's temporary absence, as
suggested and IDed by Herk and Bob Wilkner. Thanks for the assist, gents!
(Perry, Illinois)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Very nice opening on 7/1 with host of 90 meter PNGs all
showing up around 1000+ in Chicagoland, and fading up to full levels by 1015+.
Bandscan showed 3385 Radio East New Britain (Rabaul) with OM nx in EE and Tok
Pidgin at 1004; 3365 R. Milne Baya, Alotau, with YL ancr and similar
programming; 3290 R. Central Boroko weaker than the others; 3205 R. West Sepik
(Sandaun) with fair signal, again OM in EE and Tok Pidgin. Also this same
date, noted all the 60 meter Brazilians also strong by 0915 -- nice conditions,
although usual horrendous summer static crashing, non-stop. Andes opening
never
transpired, tho traces of 4790 Chiclayo going AN, around 0930. (Perry, Illinois)

BANDSCAN - Notably good propagation conditions at 1015 check this morning (much
better than earlier this week). Unfortunately, bands not staying open much
later as local sunrise already in progress at this time. Sweep of bands turned
up the following: Strong signal from 4789.90 Vision/Chiclayo, ditto 5039
Junin. 4814.98 Buen Pastor okay. Really big signal out of Victoria 6019.18
and
best signal yet out of Guaviare 6035.02 with the usual rosary. Unid LA sig
noted on 4975, possibly Del Pacifico, to be rechecked. At same time as LAs
getting ready to fade out, Asians already fading in, with best signal yet from
4755.47 Pohnpei on this date plus a presumed 5960 Fly. Carrier amidst a lot of
QRhaM on 3945, can't make out modulation -- was hoping for Vanuatu, which
Ronnie
Howard has been hearing lately, but no luck. (R Perry, Illinois).

PERU - 4790, Radio Vision, Chiclayo, good signals on 5/6 and 5/7 during
100-1040+ period. Big signal with charismatic preacher leading prayers at 1010
on 5/6, best signal in the band. At 1000 on 5/7, OM providing network sked
into
at 1000, mentioning 'cadena peruana radial . . .'. City names (Cajamarca,
Chiclayo) in the network also heard. (R Perry, Illinois)

COLOMBIA - 6035.02, La Voz del Guaviare, 5/3 with usual rosary show at 1011
first note, modulation cranking up and well heard by 1015. 1030 program change
to romantic canciones noted, per usual, along with OM deejay with what sounded
like a full info s/on anmt and ID. Horrible side slop gets worse after BOH and
never fails to drive me away . . . Nice signal on 5/7 at 1024 with YL locutora
giving schedule info, as rosary show had just ended. (R Perry, Illinois)

UNID LA - 4865.03v unid Latin heard several mornings this week from. 1015-1030
on 5/6, only weak to fair signal and really can't work. High-voiced OM locutor
but too weak to differentiate if SS or PP . . . and then what sounded like a
rlg
hymn this morning at 1030. Bad QRN. A little better on 5/7 at 1003 t/in with
LA ballads, orch and YL/OM duet in love songs. Segued programming, so no anmts
for key country clue. Perhaps can eliminate Alvorada (the ZY), as found this
pgming not // Alvorada's online stream. Don't want to leap to any identify
guesses here, tho, and am still somewhat skeptical that this could be the
often-list-reported R Logos from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. As the old
joke goes, R. Logos may be reported a lot more often than it is heard, hi hi.
Other sets of ears invited to work on this one, tnx. (R Perry, Illinois)

ETHIOPIA - 6110, R. Fana, Addis Ababa, 0310 5/9 nice booming signal on clear
fqy
with what others have been called Horn of Africa pop mx. (This type of mx,
often schmaltzy love pop, mainly with organ, horns and heavy bass, is eerily
similar to the nightclub music played in cabarets in SE Asia; heard a lot of
this stuff in the 1980s. 0316 OM anmts in lang, pres. Amharic, and then the
instls continued. Pleasant listening and armchair level -- good enough to set
as background music while working on other stuff in the office! (R Perry,

COLOMBIA - 6035.02, La Voz del Guaviare, the Unid LA station heard mornings
very weakly, after 1000, turned out to definitely be LA VOZ DEL GUAVIARE, in
Colombia. Long listed here, the programming (public praying of the rosary each
morning, by a priest and a congregation) still threw me for a loop and I
couldn't pull an ID out from the very weak signal, splattered by side-channel
slop. Took a shot and emailed LV Guaviare to ask if this matched their
programming and was delighted to get a quick response: “ . . . I am the
(female) announcer who announces the time checks on the air. What you reported
to us was correct, from 05:00 to 05:30 am Colombia time, we are transmitting
the
Rosary every day, it is a program of the Catholic church. Our signal is weak
in
your receiver, due to a failure in our equipment, but are already improving
this. We send a cordial salute for your report, which encourages us to work
even harder so that listeners like you can enjoy our programming from this
station called La Voz del Guaviare. “ (R Perry, Illinois)

UNID LA - 6035.02, Weak unid LA noted several mornings this week from 1006
earliest tune-in 4/29. Also 4/27 and 4/30 but no signal Sun morning 5/1.
Programming during 1000 hour is consistently some kind of rlg service, possibly
a group recitation of the rosary led by priest and assistant (YL). Deep-voiced
OM in what I think is SS (but unsure since so weak) as in prayer, YL sometimes
interjecting, and then group regularly responds in prayerful chorus. Seems to
fade up a wee bit toward bottom of the hour but then disappears altogether
underneath QRM splatter from both sides, which seems to crescendo daily at
1030,
killing this signal). Very poor QSA at best and continuously pounded by
splatter from both sides. Only able to hear after 1030 on 4/30, when a quick
anmt by a different speaker (possibly a live ID) at 1030, and then into a new
pgm of mellow, generic LA guitar baladas / canciones. Very intrigued by this.
One possible candidate is HJ station LV Guaviare, but that's not scheduled till
*1100 from some older info . . . so could be something else, much more
interesting. Anybody help? (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGGINGS - Ralph Perry - 15 April

2011-04-15 Thread Ralph Perry
PERU - 6019.18, Radio Victoria, Lima, okay signal 4/5 at 1030-1055. Severe
(but
notchable) het QRM. Best in LSB ECSS and narrowest bandwidth. OM and YL
noticias and commentary pgm. ID by YL at 1044 ... ustedes escuchandos Radio
Victoria. Odd, as many mornings not even a trace of a carrier. (R Perry,
Illinois)

BRAZIL - 9645.35, Radio Bandeirantes, Sao Paolo, very nice signal 2350 with pgm
Jornal Esportiva in progress. Many musical ad anmts, very high production
value. Laughing, smooth-talking dj in PP. Heard 4/7 and 4/8. This station is my
old friend -- first QSL from Brazil, more than 40 years ago, for an EE lang
reception report for a logging on a Knightkit Star Roamer. :-)(R Perry,
Illinois)

COLOMBIA - 5954.26, Radio Republica, Guapiles, 4/12 at 0912 OM and YL SS tlks.
Fair sig and fqy clear. Very nice ID at 0913 by OM, Radio Republica! su
sintonia a Radio Republica . . . onda media . . . 5 de la tarde . . . banda de

GUYANA - 3290, GBC, best heard yet, 4/11 at 0940 with Hindi pop song at tune-in

special someone. More birthday greetings now . . . . so Happy Birthday, Emil
.
. . saying 'hi' and Happy Birthday to . . . so now it's 5:45 and here's Michael
Jackson for . . . Into Rock With You from Michael Jackson's Off the Wall
album. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Loggings - R Perry - 4 April

2011-04-04 Thread Ralph Perry
PAPUA NEW GUINEA - ** RADIO FLY ALERT ** 5960, pres. Radio Fly. Thanks to web
tip from Super DXer Dave Valko (an old DX buddy from wa back), tuned this
today at 1134 4/4 to hear fairly good signal 1134 with pop music, relaxed OM
with muffled EE anmts and a program of ballads and lush orchls. Everything
about the signal and pgming seem to fit the PNG fingerprint but not yet 100%
IDed -- unfortunately needed to leave the radio to attend to other obligations,
so unable to wait for the 1200a*, so that's for tomorrow, when can 100% ID.
Only noise noted at 1205 recheck. First heard as a rather weak and almost
unworkable, fluttery unid 4/1 at 1010-1045, seemed a news program including
sporting event game clips, but totally unable to decipher at this point. Left
it thinking might even be an LA station! Even before nailing the 100% ID,
wanted to alert all that the PNG window is open, even in midcontinental USA.
Spring and Fall equinoctial reception, esp grayline, always a good time for
Pacific DX. For a DXer long 'out of the game' and only recently returned, this
was a first-time Radio Fly log for me. Big fun. (R Perry, Illinois)

MALAGASY - 5010.29, Radio Madagasikara / R Nationale Malgache, Antananarivo,
absolutely BOOMING signal 0315 on 4/2 anmts in FF and vernacular lang, possible
radio play. 0327 echo anmts / adverts, and into Afr instl mx 0328 featuring
small group with guitar, bass. (R Perry, Illinois)

MEXICO - 6009.96, Radio Mil at 1037 on 4/3, program of romantic ballads, OM
and
YL SS anmts. 1045, Gracias por su sintonia a Radio Mil!. Fadey signal,
comes
up to good level and than regularly ducks back into the muck. Also 4/4 at 1020
with nice signal. Question: what is the source of the low fqy het on this
one? Something interesting in there . . . (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 6019.18, Radio Victoria, Lima, noted 1050 t/in. Sun morning rlg pgm,
OM
SS sermonizing. 1056 lush orchl theme, 1058 church bells. Poor/fair signal
and
horrendous side splatter from R Australia 6020 powerhouse signal. Best hrd in
LSB-ECSS. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Logs - Ralph Perry - 1 April

2011-04-01 Thread Ralph Perry
COLOMBIA - 5909.95, Alcaravan Radio, noted several mornings this past week.
Fair sig 3/27 at 1110 with pgm of romantic HJ ballads. Quick ID spot when man
spat out, simply, Alcaravan...Radio... !!! over music. (R Perry, Illinois)

SOLOMON ISLANDS - 5019.88, Honiara being noted nearly daily now, as early as
1030 in the Midwestern USA. Nice reception 3/26 from 1130 to 1205*, sig fading
up all the way. Best when Cuba 5025 in tlk. ID on the hour by OM, You are
tuned to the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corp . . . our programming will
resume
. . . at . . . in the morning. Then a YL sings briefly with choral backing,
and into rousing orchl NA at 1201.45. 1203 OC, and carrier cut at 1205*
Heard
several other mornings, even as early as 0945 on 4/1. This is fun DXing, one
of
my all-time favorite stations. (R Perry, Illinois)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - 3385, presumed Radio East New Britain, Rabaul, at 1125 on
3/26. Best PNG sig in the 90 mb this day, with others only showing carriers.
1125 OM in Pidgin in pgm of nondescript orchl mx. Horrendous QRN level making
listening difficult. (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 4824.47, Radio La Voz de La Selva, Iquitos, 1031 t/in 3/25 to excited
OM
with ads in SS, fair sig and clear fqy. Upbeat pop songs and cumbias, musica
chicha. OM DJ yells out t/xks in deep echo reverb, over songs, like Las
cinco. cuarenta!!!. 1050 t/o. (R Perry, Illinois)

INDONESIA - 9525.96, Voice of Indonesia, Jakarta, big signal 1420 on 3/25 thru
the noise. OM and YL in discussion. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGGINGS - Ralph Perry - 18 Mar 2011

2011-03-18 Thread Ralph Perry
GUYANA - 3289.98, Guyana Broadcasting Corp., Georgetown, fairly good signal
0150-0225 3/18, first time heard GBC during my local evening in a long time.
Very laid back OM, EE anmts, kinda like the deejay a smooth jazz station. Mix
of slinky guitar 1950s instrumentals, ballads, local ads. At 0204, Here's a
song by Marty Robbins!. Then into a couple old tunes, the second recognized
as
El Paso by MR. Decent power (esp at peaks, at the tops of the fade cycle)
but
a very muffled, undermodulated signal, and very high floor on the local noise
level this evening. Believe they may have indeed recently made some xmtr
adjustments, as lots of us now seem to be hearing this one. A fun logging! (R
Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Logs - Ralph Perry - 13 Mar

2011-03-13 Thread Ralph Perry
BRAZIL: 9593.0v-.23v, unid. Brazilian but strongly believe Super Radio Deus
e
Amor in Sao Paolo. First noted as an unid LA, when fading-in at 2236 3/10.
Het notchable, OM vy weak with anmts in PP or SS, orchls, but weak signal.
Followed to 2257, sig building but not really workable. Retuned at 2230 on
3/12 and rewarded to hear no het this day. Initially only a carrier but sig
soon fading in with nightfall in ZY land. Definitely PP anmts and seemed
sports/futebol nx show with replay, recorded game clips. Noted EZL / MoR
ballads at 2310 recheck when signal better still, but no ID yet. Searched
lists at hand and learned that frequency-nomadic Super R. Deus e Amor of Sao
Paolo has recently been IDed here by Euro DXers. Cool log. (R Perry,
Illinois)

COLOMBIA: 5910, the Puerto Lleras xmtr noted with a morning xmsn on 3/12,
1104-1118. Romantic HJ canciones with guitar and accordian. Deep fade cycle,
nice at peaks and all but gone at troughs. OM locutor mentioning la radio
colombiana but didn't ID relay source (Marfil Estereo or Alcaravan Radio).
Need to get to this earlier next time, before propagation path fade-out. But
as luck would have it, gh in Enid OK was tuning this just hours earlier and
reports that it was a relay of Radio Alcaravan -- tnx for ID! (R Perry,
Illinois)

BOLIVIA - Radio Lipex, Uyuni, heard with fair sig but blipping ute QRM at 1025
until lost at 1047 on 3/12. Ancr a high-voiced OM in SS and lang (QQ or
Aymara?) between Andes-flavored music, with clear mentions of 'Bolivia' and
several t/cks for GMT-4. Nice opening this morning to the Andes, with good
signals noted when checking the usual suspects: 4700 R San Miguel @1020; 4747
R Huanta 2000 also @1020, 4815 R El Buen Pastor @1040; and 4955 R Cultural
Amauta @1045. No show for 6134 R Santa Cruz, tho. (R Perry, Illinois)

SOLOMON ISLANDS - 5019.85t, SIBC Honiara, tentative, noted 3/13 1125 tune-in
with pretty good carrier level and pgming decipherable mainly when blaring
Cuba
5025 in pgm pauses. Sig fading up by 1200 but still nearly unusable.
Fragments of orchl and piano music, OM with muffled anmts (intonation and pace
at times sounding EE but not readable). Some country music. OM long anmt 1155
to top of hour, with burst of orchl mx. Anmts continued on hr, then orchl
music or theme 1202 (almost sounded lika NA, but not sure) and lost 1204. At
1205.30 seems carrier was cut. All I can say is this is a pretty painful way
to tune Honiara -- back in the day, they used to come in a heckuva lot better
than this . . . ;-)(R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Logs - Ralph Perry - 8 Mar

2011-03-08 Thread Ralph Perry
INDONESIA: 4750, pres. RRI Makassar (as long reported/listed here).
Definitely
an Indo here 3/6 at 1115-1202 t/out. Slow orchl EZL mx and II ballads / love
songs, YL dj with occasional II anmts. 1131 sounded like nx headline summary,
OM and YL alternating brief items. 1136, back into program of 'lagu populer'.
At 1159, the old familiar Rayuan Pulau Kelapa theme, an RRI ID on the hr and
then, after a pause, the Jakarta newsfeed. Fadey sig, fair but peaking to
good,
with high noise underlying noise level. (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU: 5039.17, Radio Libertad de Junin, heard several mornings this week.
Noted 3/7 with fair signal at 1009 with huaynos, echo chamber SS anmts by OM.
1016 anmt: ...Informa . . . hermanitos y hermanitas . . . las cinco de la
manana
. . . Radio Libertad de Junin . . . Signal building but xmsn suddenly cut at
1030 after OM in echo chamber -- think was xmtr problem. Noted again 3/8 with
nice sig at 1046 t/in, OM dj for folklorica pgm, frantic t/cks and anmts over
OA
mx rifts. Tuned out 1053 during conjunto w/huayno on guitar. (R Perry,
Illinois)

BOLIVIA: 4699.96, Radio San Miguel, Riberalta, appeared to be cranking up
modulation at 1032, from carrier and into programming -- may have just signed
on, with OM SS anmts 1034, then into taped echo chamber ad string at 1035. CP
mxa folklorica from 1036. Nice signal on 3/8, when a notably good opening to
the Andes, a day after the big solar flare. Same time, big signal from R
Tarma,
Peru, on 4775. (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU: 4746.96, Radio Huanta 2000, daily visitor lately in the mornings, with
fine OA folkloric programming. Noted from 1042 check on 3/7, with ID at 1051:
Amables oyentes, les indicamos . . . al servicio de Huanta . . . Radio Huanta
2000 . . . . Next morning, 3/8, good signal 1015 and booming by 1040.
Again,
this was the day after the solar flare and hours before the polar / auroral
effects were predicted to start. (R Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL: 4885.03, Radio Clube do Para, biggest signal on the band at 1008 3/8
with ballads. OM yelled ID between songs simply, Radio Clube do PARA!. (R
Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL: 4865.03, tent. Radio Alvorada, Londrina, the Brazilian here with nice
signal at 1023, playing insipid ballads and schlocky pop (e.g. I Never
Promised
You a Rose Garden, in PP). Couldn't force myself to stay with this fare, too
painful to listen and other stations beckoned. Peaking to huge sig at 1045
recheck and, by 1055 recheck, starting to fade down. (R Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL: 4804.98, unid Brazilian, likely Rdif. do Amazonas, Manaus, nx pgm in
PP at 1015 check. Taped remote reports. Fair sig, only QRM that bleepin'
ute. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] Fw: DX Logs - Ralph Perry - template 6

2011-03-05 Thread Ralph Perry

BRAZIL - 9665.10, Radio Voz Missionaria, 2310 tune-in on 3/3 tnx to tip from
gh! Christian PP pop mx, then into OM PP long, inspirational speech at 2314.
Even in PP, could pick up references to God, the family, the Bible, etc. 2320
Amen, alleluia!! several times, then YL intoning in a somewhat ecstatic PP,
with mx building, behind her. Able to tune the // fqy of 5939.85, tho at a
much
lower level. Nice signal and no QRM. (R Perry, Illinois

BRAZIL - 9654.35, R. Bandeirantes, Sao Paolo, 2300 3/3 with fair signal tho
getting splattered by QRM. 2 OMs in PP dialogue. A sentimental station for
me,
whenever I hear it, as Bandeirantes was my first Brazilian logging (and QSL!)
almost 35 years ago. (R Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 9505t, R. Record, Sao Paolo, tentatively the ZY here with two OM in PP
conversation, fair sig. Record reported active here. (R Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 4699.96, Radio San Miguel, Riberalta, noted 1015 already in progress
3/4, OM SS tks repeatedly mtning Bolivia. Occasional GMT-4 t/c,s. Seemed nx
show with remote actualities being played. 1028 OM: . . . ustedes en sintonia
con Radio San Miguel . . . programacion del campo y patrimonio nacional . . .
las seis de la manana . . . nuestro amigos . . . 1029 pgm ends, YL crooning
with guitar, orch rift, then back into OM in SS again. Decent signal and clear
fqy, but a bit boomy. (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU - R. Cultural Amauta, Huanta, good signal 3/4 and 3/5. 1043 t/in 3/4 with
2 OM tlks in SS, sermonish dialogue, breaking at 1048 with OA mxa folklorica
featuring yipping YLs, guitars and quenas. At 1052 came the ID by OM, MB
dias,
amigos oyentes, ustedes escuchando ... buenos dias . . . Huanta, Radio Cultural
. . . At 1100 the 6 a.m. t/ck and another ID, f/by very pleasingly rustic
huayno. Also heard 3/5 at 1107 check, best OA sig in the band at this time,
tho
a very noisy morning. (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 4824.47, Radio La Voz de la Selva, Iquitos, noted 1058 on 3/5 with big
carrier tho lower modulation, OA mxa folklorica vocals by OM w/guitar and
quenas. 1101 OM yelling in SS in echo chamber f/by program of more musica del
campo. Also reliably noting R. Huanta 2000 most mornings around 1030 on steady
4746.97 (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Logs - Ralph Perry - 03 Mar 2011

2011-03-03 Thread Ralph Perry
BOLIVIA - 4716.70, R. Yura (aka R. Yatun Ayllu Yura, Yura, San Antonio de
Quijarro). Decent opening to the Andes 3/1, noted thru high ambient noise
level
at 1025. YL tlks with patriotic theme, catching words la libertad . . .
importancia . . . la patria . . .. Weak signal in high QRN but caught ID
1033,
R Yura . . . las cinco de la manana y tres minutos . . . m.b. dias, amables
oyentes . . . Sig fading down by 1040, about as late as I can ever hold onto
a
60 meter Bolivian in the Midwest. (R Perry, Illinois)

PERU - 4746.97, Radio Huanta Dos Mil, OM dj playing huaynos at 1022 on 3/1,
pretty good signal and my clue to hunt for other, more desired Andean stations
(see above). Came back to recheck at 1042 and caught nice ID by OM, R Huanta
Dos Mil . . . (R Perry, Illinois)

UNID - 5019.85, unid station noted 1045 during pause in Cuba 5025 modulation,
but rocked by splatter shortly thereafter when Cuba ended brief silent period.
YL tlks to the hour, then OM with what sounded like newscast. Couldn't make
content out very well at all, but tempo and 'shape' of speech sounded like it
could have been English. Would love to hear the Solomons again, after all
these
years, so will keep watching / working this fqy. (R Perry, Illinois)

INDONESIA - 9525.93v (to .96) - Voice of Indonesia. Fair sig poking hole in
the
band here, and wandering a bit. Was previously on the low side of 9525 and am
hearing it better now, in new location above 9525. (Listening in exalted
carrier SSB so was tracking fqy, from .93 at 1302 tune-in, up to .96 by 1314
and
then back down to .93.) At 1302 EE nx and comment by OM, 1307 musical burst
and into EE pgm narrated by YL. At 1314, after orchl burst, This is the Voice
of Indonesia... f/by an organ rift, and ID again at 1318. At 1320, rather
monotonous sparse gamelan band (very few instruments) gonging away, with YL
talking over, in spurts. At 1331, nice ID as she mentioned, Greetings, where
ever you are! This is the Voice of Indonesia . . . Then into a local musical
program with interesting fare -- music was a capella choral, from the far
eastern Indonesian islands -- therefore, a tip of the cap to Voice of
Indonesia. It is noteworthy, in this traditionally totally Javanese-dominated
country, to see the more far-flung areas getting some respect on the country's
international service. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGS - Ralph Perry - 16 Feb

2011-02-16 Thread Ralph Perry
PERU - 4789.92t, R Vision, Chiclayo, tentatively the one here 1106 tune-in on
2/16 till 1125 t/o due to horrendous noise on the bands. Fair sig, news
program
by OM in SS with lots of remote phone-ins by YL, GMT-5 t/cks matching Peru.
1120 OM ...las seis de la manana . . . programa de noticias . . .. Widely
reported in Europe on this precise off-fqy. (R Perry, Illinois)

DOMINICAN REP - 6025.06, R Amanecer Int., 1125-1154 2/13, segued mix of
schlocky
rlg vocals and Christian pops. Occasionally a bonafide hymn by choir and piano.
1139 MB Dias by ancr and 1148 into taped ad string. Also noted 1015 on 2/15
with stupendous signal, evidently got xmtr all tuned up! YL at 1020, Radio
Amanecer Int'l . . . programacion sistematica . . . de la manana . . . Into
hymns. (R Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 4754.85, R Imadulada Conceicao, Campo Grande, 0950 good sig on 2/15
with OM in PP, echoing over orchl background mx. Live studio ancr followed,
mentioning several times Santa Maria (3 times in 5 mins). 1005 tune out. (R
Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 6134.84, R Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, my favorite morning
visitor with an absolutely booming signal on 2/15 at 1015 check, local ballads
by YL and orch. No QRM but slight het, easy to notch. 1017 huayno-influenced
modern music. 1035, clear ID and fqy by OM. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGS - Ralph Perry - 12 Feb

2011-02-12 Thread Ralph Perry
CHAD - 6165, Radiodiffusion Nationale Tchadienne, N'djamena, good signal
2150-2215 2/7, pleasant African rhythms to 2200 nx and commentary show in FF by
OM, with remote feeds by YL and others. Gone at 2245 recheck. Slated to s/off
daily 2230* except weekends when it runs to 2300*. (R Perry, Illinois)

ECUADOR - 4814.98, R. El Buen Pastor, 1050-1110, decent signal and in the clear
on 2/5 (ute missing) but noisy. Upbeat nondescript music to 1052 when quick
theme burst and OM on top, Radio El Buen Pastor, nuestro programa esta manana
.
. . t/ck and fqy quote. Into what sounded like brief rlg tlk, mtning El
Senor
. . . Dios . . . and then MOR orchls at 1102 with another ID over. (R Perry,
Illinois)

INDIA - 6155, Bangalore, noting this 2/10 and 2/11 with good signal and in the
clear, early local evenings. A bit unusual to hear the subcontinent in
Illinois
at this time, although a darkness short path exists. On 2/11, fqy clear when
carrier switched on 0012 and 0015 YL abruptly speaking. Believe this is the
Urdu domestic service. 0015.30, chanting by OM, sound like Islamic call to
prayer (interesting to hear this on an India xmtr, but a reminder that about
15%
of Bangalore population is indeed Muslim). 0021 OM in Urdu and then into
subcontinental music. YL singer with subcontinental combo featuring sitar,
tabla, etc. Segued to 0029 t/o. Same pattern pgming heard prior day, when
noting call to prayer already in progress at 0018, the 0021 anmt and then into
Hindi music. Nice signal and just a lot of fun to hear this. Armchair level
signal at the top of fade-ins. (R Perry, Illinois).

GUYANA - GBS Georgetown noted 0920 past 0950 2/12, deep fades, OM ancr in EE
with instl mx. (R Perry, Illinois)

BRAZIL - 4885, R. Clube do Para, best signal in the band 0935 on 2/12, booming
in at 0935 with OM ancr in P giving ID (Radio Clube do Para, muito bom dia! .
.
. na faixa de 60 metros . . . and fqy quote over musical backdrop. Same day,
at 0940 on 4915 Anhanguera presumed, OM PP tlk and mx, but lower sig. Also an
unid Brazilian on 4865 at 1015. (R Perry, Illinois)

CHINA - 6030, China National Radio 1, fine signal 1305 2/12 with what sounded a
lot like a Lion Dance performance with clanging symbols, drumming. Into local
folk music by small band with local kazoo-like horns, drumming, etc. Seemed
live performance. Wonderful listening, nice to play inthe background while
typing, etc. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGGINGS - Ralph Perry 5 Feb

2011-02-05 Thread Ralph Perry
MADAGASCAR - 5010.3, Radio Madagasikara / R Nationale Malgache, Antananarivo
coming thru nicely. Already in progress at tune-in 0300 with fair-good power,
lite fades and moderate static. Clear fqy 2/5. 100 kWs listed and sounded
like
it! Pleasant, melodic African choral chanting/pop accompanied by local
ensemble, heavy on rhythm and bass. Segued similar songs thru to 0330, when
signal severely faded. Seemed newscast by OM caught in fragments at bottom of
the hour. Unable to raise a streaming broadcast to get a //, but did find
their
website: http://takelaka.dts.mg/radmad/ . At same time, a decent signal on
4976 which I believe was Kampala also coming thru. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGS - Ralph Perry 2/2

2011-02-02 Thread Ralph Perry
ECUADOR: 4814.96, presumed Radio El Buen Pastor, Saraguro, 1114-1150 on 2/1 .
Ute QRM manageable this day. Couldn't snag clear ID but Saraguro presumed the
one as everything else fits, including widely-reported fingerprint of precise
decimal off-fqy. OM SS with relaxed speech over mild instl mx at tune-in, then
over Andes mx folklorica at 1117; echo ads 1121 but hard to read. 1124 studio
ancr again, clear GMT-5 time check and into huayno guitar vocals. 1130 another
t/ck ...6 de la manana y 30 minutos Holding on but fading down by 1150
t/out. Again at 1119 check on 2/2, but under horrible ute and much more
obscured. (R Perry, Illinois)

COSTA RICA: 5954.20, R Republica booming in 1/31 at 0010, OM harange in SS
against Havana. (R Perry, Illinois)

ARGENTINA: 6060, R Nacional, LRA31, Buenos Aires, domestic programming
0945-1034 2/1, national and regional news pgm at tune-in by YL including
on-scene reports. OM mentions ...La Manana en Noticias... possibly the name
of pgm. 0952 YL t/ck ... de la manana y 52 minutos . . . At 0953 this xmtr
changes over to RAE intl xmsn, with IS of chimes sequence alternating with YL
and then OM saying R - A - E . . . Argentina!, for several minutes, over and
over again. 0955 t/o but still going at 1034 recheck and ... muy buenos dias
.
. . Argentina... (R Perry, Illinois)

BOLIVIA: 6134.84, Radio Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, big beautiful
signal at tune-in 0955 2/1. All QRM gone, fqy clear. OM anmts in SS and
romantic orchl mx. Very nice ID 1030 Radio Santa Cruz and then into more MOR
music. Hrd several days now, stable on this precise off-fqy. (R Perry,
Illinois)

PERU: 4746.96, tent Radio Huanta 2000, heard several mornings around 1050, OA
musica folklorica and OM with boomy and unreadable echoey anmts. Peru time
zone
t/cks (la 5 de la manana y __ minutos.) Hearing OM DJ SS tlks, but YL t/cks.

Noted 2/1 and 2/2. Signal only fair QRP. At same time, quickly noting other
probable OA 60 mb signals coming in on 5039.1 (R Libertad de Junin) and 4824.47
(LV de la Selva) but IDs on all these will have to await another day with more
favorable conditions! (R Perry, Illinois)

HONDURAS: 3250, Radio Luz Y Vida, San Luis, signal fading up 1135 with chorus
and orch in hymn (melody of I Want To See Jesus). Segued light instl mx.
Occasional t/cks and finally at 1158, OM ID .. R-r-r-r-r-r-radio Luz Y
Vida
. . . onda corta . . .alegria . . . followed by strummed guitar. Into
romantic
ballad. Guitar vocals thru 1215 t/o. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX Logs - RALPH PERRY - 1/30

2011-01-30 Thread Ralph Perry
ZANZIBAR - 6015, Voice of Tanzania - Zanzibar, aka the former RTZ, well heard
0300-0340+ 1/30, thanks to Ron Howard's tip! Decent African propagation this
nite but more importantly, fqy nice and clear other than the awful splatter
from 6020. Sig fair to occasionally fading-in to good level. Checked fqy
0258
and could detect carrier but not hear anything -- missed any IS -- but
realized
about 0300 YL anmts suddenly there, in progress, very muffled. Signal faded
up
so that at 0301.20 Islamic call to prayer very well heard, muzzein sadly
chanting for about 5 minutes with long pauses between verses. 0306 thru bottom
of the hour, OM giving speech or narrative, excited at times, either a
political
or religious exhortation. Quick mx interlude 0316 broke in, and then OM
speech
resuming. YL with possible news at bottom of hour, also hearing echoey,
excited
man, possible taped sports report or the like. 0341 orch mx with YL, probably
ad. Gotta hand it to the R8B on this one, rig did well: the AM sync
detection
mode seemed to really pull this out of the mud at times.Never heard
Zanzibar
on this fqy before and, in fact, had not heard Zanzibar in 30 years, since the
days when RTZ hung out on 3339 kHz and Mr. Omar M. Omar delighted in teasing
DXers with letters that explicitly non-verified. Again, thanks again for the
tip to Ron Howard, the Nomad DXer of the Asilomar Beach State Park! (R Perry,
Illinois)

BOLIVIA - 6134.77, R. Santa Cruz, 1009-1045+ 1/30, good time to tune as usual
6135 QRM (initially) absent early morning. Sounded like remote newsfeed at
tune-in, 1018 brief musica folklorica break and then OM ancr 1019 and into
romantic guitar ballad. 1021 local time ck and mentions of . . . boliviano . .
.La Paz and musica del campo and then into extremely rustic musica
folklorica
segment. Yelling/singing women a capella with only percussion accompaniment.
1027 taped ID by OM YL, clear mention . . . Radio Santa Cruz . . . onda
corta
. . . 1029 ads and another ID 1029.46, into slow huayno-type ballad by OM
with
accordianlike instrument. QRM coming up at this point and big het, but still
able to follow until 1045 tune out. (R Perry, Illinois)

MEXICO - 6010, Radio Mil, daily visitor morning and night, heard 1/30 booming
in
1035 with OA pops, DJ wishing folks muy buenos dias and formula ID as Esta
escuchando . . . Radio Mil, desde Mexico!. Signal holds up well after
daybreak
locally, heard still hanging in there past 1300 GMT. (R Perry, Illinois)

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - 6025.06, tent. Radio Amanecer, Santo Domingo, 1202-1240+
1/29, OM SS at tune-in talking about La Familia . . . nuestro salud . . .
Republica Dominicana . . . Fair to good sig, very deep fades and lots of side
splatter. 1211 mx breaker by OM with t/ck. Sig fading by 1215 when OM
mentioned iglesia and Dominicana. 1222 thot caught the ID for R Amanecer
but
not 100% sure. Still going at 1240 with piano mx poss hymn. This one needs
more work. (R Perry, Illinois)

UNID LA (HONDURAS?) - 3250.1, Unid. fading up at 1130 on 1/29, YL and OM in
dialogue, weak and hard to tell lang but cadence could have been SS.
Suspecting
R. Luz Y Vida, Honduras and will keep at this fqy. (R Perry, Illinois)

UNID LA (DOM REPUBLIC?) - 5954.24, La Voz de ID heard at 0055 1/29 with
terrible het and slop. Back at 0427 recheck with LA romantic vocals and again,
at 0430, YL ID as La Voz de . Can't make it out. There are some reports
of a Radio Republica on this precise off-fqy, too, from Costa Rica but too
early to say. (R Perry, Illinois)

UNID (AFRICAN?) - 4780, 0445-0510, Unid African? Boomy audio. OM anmts at
top
of hr for 3 mins, then into mainly nondescript instrumental music, but there
was
one chantlike, very ethnic selection interspersed -- almost sounded like Thai
hilltribe type stringed instrument with vocalist. Fair sig at times but rather
muffled and couldn't read the lang. Could have even been EE. Interesting one
to retry. (R Perry, Illinois)

[HCDX] DX LOGS - Ralph Perry 1/31

2011-01-30 Thread Ralph Perry
DJIBOUTI: 4780, Djibouti *0300-0330+ 1/31, thanks to all who suggested this
(Don, Fergy, others). Heard tonight from 0250 open carrier, orchl NA at 0300
f/by repeating IS of flute and what seemed like fiddle-type instrument. Into
Islamic morning Call to Prayer at 0301.28-0317 (long form!). Then OM narration
or news in AA to 0332, when mx show opened. Modern, western influenced,
pop-sounding AA recording featuring organ, base, flute and mixed group of
singers. S9+++ at 0335 tune out. (R Perry, Illinois)

COSTA RICA: 5954.24, Radio Republica, Guapiles. Turns out my unid indeed is
Radio Republica, the station targeting bcsts to Cuba from xmtrs reportedly in
Guapiles, Costa Rica. Heard 0236-0256 on 1/31, deep fades, and lucked out with
nice recorded ID by YL at peak of fade cycle at 0238: Esta es Radio
Republica,
La Voz del Pueblo . . . nuestro programa 'Sorprisa Musical' . . . la mejor de
musica . . . and then a snippet from Queen's We Will Rock You as part of the
theme. Into program of hot merengue dance music and pops. At 0249 again,
un lugar con la mejor de musica . . . Radio Republica . . .. At 0255,
the
sound of a fax machine and then words said in English, haltingly, World Wide
Web. Sig was on bottom of a fade cycle, but could hear a URL was being given,
couldn't read it. Fqy anmt too, en la banda de 49 metros. (R Perry,
Illinois)

[HCDX] Ralph Perry DX Logs - Date

2011-01-28 Thread Ralph Perry
Ethiopia: 9705 R Ethiopia, tent., 2000-2100* 1/27. Big thanks to Brian
Alexander for the tip, an extremely enjoyable catch -- haven't heard Addis
Ababa
in 30 years, so a fun way to rejoin the DXing world . . . . Fqy unblocked at
2000 when Family Radio (Meyerton) signs off, revealing signal of R Ethiopia,
weak at first but then fading in to good level by bottom of the hour. 2000 nx
pgm in progress, vern lang by OM, into local music program around 2006.
Terrific, very listenable mx selection, chanty vocals with twangy local
instruments and percussion accompaniment. Some mx with very Middle Eastern
influence, other uniquely different. Also more 'modern' (western?) sounding
music during back half of the hour, presume this is what Brian called 'Horn of
Africa pop'. (Sounded to me like Malaysian 'nightclub music', oddly enough.)
OM
and YL occasoinal anmts in lang, pres Amharic. Pre-shutdown nx flash f/by
electronic stinger around 2058, breathy s/off anmt by YL. Couldn't catch ID.
2059 unfamiliar anthem by funky oompah-type orchestra, then open carrier and
cut
after 2100. (R Perry, IL)

Niger: 9705, Unid but Niamey presumed 1/27, thanks again to Brian Alexander
for
this tip re the 9705 Experience hi hi. Revealed after Ethiopia vacated fqy
2100a, but much weaker signal. Rechecked 2140 and in the clear,
Islamic-influenced African chant music. Not heard well, but believe Brian has
this one right. Another fun logging, requiring more checks in the following
days. Niamey used to be a very tough catch back in the day (60s and 70s), and
about the only way to hear them was to get lucky and snag a few minutes of
their
early morning programming after the unfortunately (for North America) rather
late sign on at 0700 GMT. (R Perry, IL)

Peru: 6019.23 Radio Victoria, Lima, 1/28 can pull out from under massive het at
1108-1120, need ECSS LSB plus notch but decent sig level, lengthy speech by
excited man in SS, not sure if political speech, religious oration (heard
'gracias a Dios' and references to 'la familia') or even sporting event. (R
Perry, IL)

Mexico: 6185 R Education XEEP, noted 1/22 and daily since, powering up carrier
around 1057 with pre-s/on music, then into rousing symphonic NA at 1058 and
1100
ID, R Education . . . 86 anos al servicio a la cultura de nuestro pais . . ..

Others reported 76 years, but it sure sounds like 86 to me. (R Perry, IL)

Mexico: 6009.96 R Mil, heard various mornings around 1030 with romantic vocals
and techno dance music. Fair to good sig but deep fades. At 1110, Esta
escuchando . . . Radio Mil desde Mexico! (R Perry, IL)

Colombia: 6035 unid LA, suspect LV Guaviare, mornings around 1045. Deep fades,
OM YL anmts in SS, possibly morning news pgm, hard to read. Needs more work.
(R Perry, IL)
