Using the callsign of GB1WM, this is a first time activation of one probably one the most photographed landmarks on the North Norfolk coast. The Mill was extensively renovated in 2008 with new sails and fantail fitted, being a private residence it is NOT open to the public. For this reason the station will be on-air from a field adjacent to the mill from 8th - 10th May. Look for Bittern DX'er members to be active on all HF bands and VHF, including some data modes. The waves are too high; even launching a Zodiac is impossible. A very sad Theo, ON4ATW told us at 09.00 UT they will have to come back to Scotland. The weather is worsening by the hour and the weather forecast for the coming days does not give any hope he told us by satphone. For tomorrow 5 Bft winds are forecasted with gusts up to 80 km/h. We are all very disappointed that after all these preparations a landing was not possible. However we learned a lot about all the aspects of putting up a DXpedition. The purpose of the operation will be a test of potential antennas for use at CY0. Testing of antenna layout will be conducted to assess inter-station interference and the ability to operate two stations on the same band. Seven (7) antennas will be included in the test. Matt and James are keen SOTA enthusiasts and will be activating all five IOM SOTA Summits over two days on the 27th and 28th. They may be accompanied by Mark or Kevan on some or all of these summits. Kevan and Mark will be taking the lead on HF operating from Point of Ayre, at the northern tip of the Island on the 29th where they plan to be active near the IOTA frequency of 14.160 MHz. When active on 80m they will normally be found around the ISWL net frequency of 3.685 MHz. Operation on 40m will be 'wherever we can find a space' so is a bit more hit and miss. Kevan hopes to call in to the ISWL net on the Tuesday 28th. Of particular interest to monitor point chasers will be a chance to work affiliated Club Colchester Radio Amateurs (G-1118) with GT3CO, they will switch to this call if requested by ISWL members as long as a full licensee is present. This time the group will be operating at different times from BOTH the French (WLOTA LH-0383) and Dutch side of St. Martin Island FS/PJ7 (NA-105). Various modes including phone, RTTY, and CW will be on the air, along with golf cart mobile, or bicycle mobile operations and other unique operational situations.
