Gary,

FW is Wallis I., not Crozet (FT4W?)

Looks to me like it really was FK8CP and FK8RG respectively.

I don't think it is Crozet Islands (Crozet is FT5W) and actually
Wallis Islands is using FW5 and not FW8.

Gary,

I received a QSL from Dan about two weeks ago for a 10 meter QSO on March 29th with XZ1DB.

There was a note with the QSL from Dan saying he's been very busy having been elected to the City Council.

You should get your card shortly,

With the sad passing of VP2VI, does anyone know if perhaps remaining
QSL chores are perhaps being undertaken by someone?

I worked him just before his passing and it's the only VP2V contact
I've made thus far on 50 MHz. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, Hrane never was QRV. They were supposed to use P5A, and
actually had a license or permission from the government, but the military never
signed off on the operation and thus they were never actually on the air. They did
spend a lot of time listening to people pirating the P5A and P5?YT1AD calls...

In short, you got burned by Slim.

Hi Pete,

Another question.. How did you get so lucky as to get a card from XW0X?

I worked him on 5 Feb. 02 on 10 meters, SSB and also on 17 Feb. 02 on 10 meters,

CW. Both sent with the requested 2 IRC's, the later card also enclosing a

duplicate card for the 1st QSO. Nothing received in return yet.

If I get it, is it a "good contact"?

Also worked XW1HS on 10 in July and card was sent to E21EIC. Any

reports out there on these QSL's.

Mark, ON4WW is employed by the UN in the World Food Program, among
other things was one of the operators putting YA5T on the air in
Afghanistan while he was there (all of those ops have now left the

Perhaps his mail and email have a hard time catching up with him.

Hi,
there has been a lot of questions about QSL´s
I have been trying 3 times to get a card for EL2WW
via ON5NT. Have also sent several email to ON5NT and
also to the operator of EL2WW, ON4WW, but do not get any
response what so ever on mail or email?
Has anyone recently been able to get a card via ON5NT
or know other email addresses than the ones on QRZ.com

Re: [DX-NEWS] QSL EL2WW

2002-12-01 Thread Waldemar DK3VN
Hello John-ON4UN,

your message to Goran-SM4DHF let me hope that you can help me with
my QSL-ing problems with Ghis-ON5NT?

In late 1995 and in early 1996 I have received my D3T and 9Q5TT cards
from Ghis without any problem with a typical turnaround of 3..6 months.
But from 1997 on, no responses from Ghis anymore. Usually I have used
the address shown in the callbook (Flying Horse), on qrz.com, etc..
Always I have provided a SAE and 1..2 US Dollar Bills.

Let say, I have used a wrong postal address in the late nineties;
why the envelopes were not returned, because the belgian post
office could not deliver the envelopes, because of the wrong
address?

When I sent an eMail to Ghis, usually I have checked the latest
postings from Ghis via the DX-Reflector and used the address,
he has used for his postings. None of of my eMails were bounced;
so the eMail addresses were correct; my eMails were delivered to
him. But the results were: No response from Ghis.

Since 1994 I am visiting the HAMRADIO in Friedrichshafen, Germany
every year. I remember, in the late nineties, maybe in 1998, more
and more HAM's claimed very loud, that they have not received
anything from Ghis. Meanwhile I know some belgian HAM's also,
who are claiming, that they have not received anything from Ghis
via direct.

At the end of 2000 there was a big discussion on the DX-QSL
Reflector about Ghis. Many HAM's claimed, that they have not
received anything from Ghis. Some HAM's said, they never had any
problem with Ghis. Very, very strange the whole story. An italian
HAM, who was claiming about no response, suddenly received all cards
a short time later and an eMail from Ghis also. This italian HAM
gave me the eMail address from Ghis and I sent an eMail to Ghis.
The eMail was not bounced; the addresses was correct; the eMail
was delivered to him! I have a positive "Delivery Status
Notification" in my eMail archive! Guess: NO RESPONSE from Ghis!

For many years now I am subscribed to the DX- and the DX-QSL
Reflector's. I have a private eMail archive with thousands of eMails;
the totally size of the archive (always plain text) is more than
500 MB! If I would scan this archive searching for ON5NT, then
I would find many eMails from HAMs who are complaining about Ghis.

Yes, some have received their cards from Ghis in the last few
years without any problems, but also MANY HAM's HAVE NOT!
And I am speaking about the HAMs, who have sent direct
incl. SAE and $$'s!

Some questions:

1. Ghis has problems with the postal service in Belgium??? I don't
believe it, because Belgium is a country in Western Europe with
a modern and good working postal service!

2. Ghis has not enough time, because of his job or private problems,
to fulfill his QSL-Manager job? Maybe; but if so, why he is not asking
for some help? I am pretty sure, many belgian HAM's in his neighbor-
hood would be glad to help out

3. Ghis is receiving many, many requests. Why some requests are
answered in a few days/weeks/months and why some are not answered
after years? Are 1..2 $$ not enough for postage in Europe,
incl. QSL card printing costs??? Let me say it in this way:
Is there a special secret, I should know?

Very, very strange, believe me!!! As you can see, I am very
frustrated about the whole "Ghis-ON5NT-story".

BTW: I was one of the very first private person, who has supported
Peter-ON6TT with some money () for his Heard-Island project in
1996 and then in 1997. I am glad, that Ghis was not the QSL-Manager
for the VK0IR operation, believe me! I don't know, if I'll support
any activity of Peter-ON6TT direct or indirect anymore, because of
my bad experience with 5X1T cards (result: NIL, nothing, nada!!!).

Let me know, what you are thinking about all that? You should know,
I have received my callsign in 1969; I am not an unexperienced
youngster anymore.

Last but not least: I am missing cards for 5X1T, 9X4WW and EL2WW.

I second the statements made in this e mail. I have had a total lack of
response from Ghis despite multiple submissions. There have, at times, been
very negative discussions and comments about Ghis on OH2AQ, by numerous
persons. Recently, several persons have stated that they will no longer work
a DX station if Ghis is the manager. This complaints are world wide, but
most vocal from Europe.

If any information can be obtained, please post it here.

Tom,
The last card I received from Ghis, was in August this year. It had a small
note with it apologising for the lateness of the reply card. He said that
he was having very severe problems within his family and this was the
dominant thing in his life at present. He did not indicate that the
situation had yet been resolved.

I hope this info is of some assistance to those who are waiting for cards.

Dear Waldemar,

I know this wont make you happy but I think I heard recently that Ghis is
now very busy with his employment so perhaps that is the problem preventing
him from active QSLing.

In the past (a few years back), Ghis was a VERY GOOD QSLer.

However, I agree with you, that there are many people that could step in
and help. I hope Ghis will ask for help.

Re: [DX-NEWS] [DX] XW0X

2002-12-02 Thread Ron Notarius WN3VAW
Bob,

When this first cropped up a few days ago, I heard from quite a few people
who are having trouble getting a card out of Hiro. A few implied (or flat
out stated their belief) that he's pocketing the IRC's and/or $'s for other
purposes.

All I can tell you, I followed his instructions as per his web site -- no
names on the address or return address -- and I used a 6x9 manilla envelope
(computer-generated QSL card I use is a touch too big for a #10 envelope)
with the flap taped shut. My card came back in about 10-11 weeks.

My suspicion is that a good percentage of the mail to him is being
permanently diverted before it ever reaches his hands. Perchance that is
why "no names" are requested on the envelopes; if the box is shared, maybe
the thieves are only diverting mail known to be going to Hiro.

Hi Pete,

Another question.. How did you get so lucky as to get a card from
XW0X?

I worked him on 5 Feb. 02 on 10 meters, SSB and also on 17 Feb. 02 on 10
meters,

CW. Both sent with the requested 2 IRC's, the later card also enclosing a

duplicate card for the 1st QSO. Nothing received in return yet.

If I get it, is it a "good contact"?

Also worked XW1HS on 10 in July and card was sent to E21EIC. Any

but he wasn't interested in doing that.

Paco, just to inform you and others, that you can fulfill Russian
Districts Award (which became VERY popular in Russia last year),
participating in Russian DX contest, which is to be held on next
weekend, 1200 UTC 15 March - 1200 UTC 16 March 2003. We would like to
invite all of you to join the contest. Gentlemen, please spread this
out in your national Reflectors.

RDXC rules www.rdxc.ru, we have rules in Russian, English, German,
Finnish, Spanish, Hungarian, Italian, Polish. RDXC is supported by
N1MM, WriteLog, or you can download neat RDXC contest software,

This is about RDA Award:

FGE> The Russian Districts Award (RDA) http://rdaward.org, sponsored
FGE> by Tambov Award Group (TAG), is issued for contacts with

FGE> according to the RDA list of districts. The basic RDA certificate
FGE> can be obtained for working at least 100 districts. Generally,

FGE> But:
FGE> Starting in 2003, the participants of RDXC are able to fulfill

6O0A wouldn't count for DXCC anyway, only T5 counts for Somalia.

Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Antenna

2003-07-31 Thread N4KG
Gain comes from REMOVING Energy from some directions and focusing it in other
directions. Horizontal Arrays such as the Sterba Curtain can develop good
gains but focus the energy in NARROW Lobes. This is not a problem for ROTARY
antennas, but severly limits coverage for a FIXED Antenna.

RE: [DX-NEWS] East Timor

2003-08-15 Thread Nelson Moyer
I asked Bill Moore that very question this week because Timor-Leste has
replaced East Timor on the May 2003 DXCC Country List. He said they are
one and the same for DXCC, i.e. all bands and modes credited for East
Timor count for Timor-Leste. He said it was merely a name change, like
Yugoslavia becoming Serbia and Montenegro, which was also new on the
latest country list. I guess that means Stu's and Kan's petition has
been denied.

Re: [DX-NEWS] East Timor

2003-08-15 Thread John Warren
There was one significant item which showed up as the transition from
UNTAET to Timor Leste occurred.

For a short while (a few months? - I don't remember the dates), Thor
4W6MM was inadvertently operating without a valid UN license. As soon
as he found out he went QRT until he got his new government license.
I assume any QSOs he made during that period will not be good for
DXCC.

I received 3 cards from Chak ok. Sent direct w/$2 bill and the following
address:

C. CH. Chadraabal, PO Box 905, Ulaanbaatar-23, Mongolia via Japan. (I added
this as I think someone
on the qsl reflector suggested it.)

Same address is on his card except does not have the "via Japan" on it.
per card:
e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (this is not a typo on the call from me. per
card)

Worked for me. One qso in 99 and two in 2001. Don''t have the sent and
received dates. Sri..

Same story here..
Different band/different date
SAME results...
My QSO was 27 Feb 1998!
I sent him email (after two tries with QSL) June of 2002..

Check with your anti virus provider BEFORE you do anything!! Never
delete anything in "C:/Windows/Command" without verifying with your Anti
Virus provider!!

I've contacted McAffee for advice.

Re: [DX-NEWS] Phone line RFI

2001-11-20 Thread José de Sá

Urb
By the replies I have received Iam not the only one with
this problem and DXers are willing to share this information.
So, it looks that DX info is not only the one concerning QSOing
but the technical background... Thats probably DXing as well !
Yes I know I was really anoyed with this problem and send it to several
mailing lists in order to acomplish a large number of replies.
But it looks that to me and to many others this RFI problems are as
important as why the VP6/D has been cancelled.
You were really the only one complaining, I assume that you are the
list moderator.

I very rarelly post in this mailing list and when I do I get a "warning" !
(I was not even offending others, its not my way!)

Now, a warning is something serious and it disapoints me that a fellow
American and a DXer warns other DXers so easielly.
(not very Democratic is it ?)

But probably the list is yours and you have the right to do with it whatever
you want.

So, please remove me permanently, blacklist me, whatever...

You see, such as you Iam a DXer and a DX'peditioner... !

Needless to say more.

Keep well and best of lucks.

Re: [DX-NEWS] SY Prefix Confusion

2002-01-08 Thread WC6DX

I was amused to read this article in the Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin #544. I was
SV0GC in Athens from 1986-1988 and frequently visited the Ministry of
Communications to apply for special prefixes. I used ALL available Greek
prefix blocks (J40GC, SV0GC, SW0GC, SX0GC, SY0GC, SZ0GC), plus the first
trinomic prefix issued, SV900GC. When I applied for the SY prefix, I asked
if it was reserved for Mount Athos. They said it was NOT exclusively
reserved, just a matter of custom. As an observation, my Greek ham friends
never assumed that an SY station was automatically Mount Athos. DX'ers just
need to get their qsl info correct and not bother Monk Apollo who has enough
legitimate requests, and we prefix hunters can continue to find SY and other
Greek prefixes on the air. 73, Will WC6DX - SV0GC

On his webpage he says that all QSLs for XW0X with 2 IRCs are returned the

Actually Vince, the reason why DX-CHAT was formed several months ago was to maintain
the news only forum of DX-NEWS. It's been this way since it's inception over 3 years
ago and the reasonong behind that was sooner or later (most likely sooner) every
thread breaks down into a "urinating" match where one person tries to outdo the other
in crudeness.

DX-NEWS was/is a forum foe the disemination of news related items, with the ocassional
question relating to DX. Items that generate discussion ARE DISCOURAGED as they take
up a lot of bandwidth, take a lot of time to go through the bouncing mail addresses,
etc etc

This is why you will see me forward many threads to DX-CHAT, to allow discusion in a,
hopefully, friendly forum where civility will reign.

This policy was determibed by the charter subscribers when the DXR was started and has
worked very successfully over the years. We learned from the successes and failures
of the 1st DX reflector VE7TCP.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away. I answer 100% of my e-mail either
direct or via the buro :-)

This is baffling. Based upon Rod AC6V's intelligence, I tried the

Now all I have to figure out is how to break the Antarctic pileups

Laugh now, but one day you'll be driving a Lexus and eating
dinner at four in the afternoon. (so what is an early bird?)

Before you read the menu, read the prices. If you have to ask
the price, you can't afford it. But if you can afford it, make sure
to tell everybody what you paid.
