Re: [Elecraft] P3
Bout an hour and a half or so including time that it took to take it out of the box... Not to mention the fact that I was one the phone while assembling it. However my time was kept low and I was able to built it with divided attention because I'd already read the manual. There are very few possible screws to have to separate things from and thus the thing just poof goes together in a heartbeat. The only real secret is that you need to kinda put things together slightly loosely and make sure you get it all square and sealed up tight before you tighten things down. ~Brett (N7MG) On Mon, Aug 2, 2010 at 11:05 PM, Rick Prather k6limae...@gmail.com wrote: How long did it take you Brett? [Elecraft] Another slick note about the P3...
Man I must admit I really dig the ability to move the CF... On numerous occasions I'd be listening to a QSO and I'd want to look over and check another portion of the band However in PowerSDR I wasn't able to do this without leaving my current frequency. This was an even bigger problem in that my sound card was only a 96Khz version. However I really dig that with the P3 I can move the center frequency over and look at the CW portion of the band even if I'm up at the top end of that band. Very cool! ~Brett (N7MG) PS: another thing that I really like about the P3 is that the resolution of the data displayed remains the same no matter what I have my span set to. In powerSDR with the LP-PAN you've got a fixed sample rate and thus your data points are greatly spread out when using narrow spans. Not so with the P3. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3 and N1MM Logger
I just received a new factory wired K3 (s/n 4521) and I can not get the K3/Logger to talk to each other. At this point I think the problem with the K3 (and it's user!) but I am not sure. Prior to setting up my K3, I had been using an IC-7700, keying with COM1 and interfacing with COM3, so I know those ports were working. I have a home brew keying circuit that works with various other programs, so I have no need to key the K3 through its serial port. What I have done is moved my keying circuit (it works fine with the K3) to the K3 and moved my COM3 serial cable to the K3. In Logger Config, I changed from the IC-7700 to K3, I used the recommended configuration for the K3, i.e., 19600/N/8/1 and I have DTR and RTS set to 'Always OFF'. The CW/PTT Port Adr is set for 3E8. I have tried numerous other settings, N1MM recognizes it is connected to a K3, but I get no frequency readout. [Elecraft] Transformer
Vic, If your transformer is a true 1 to 1 winding ratio the RMS voltage measurment of both the primary and secondary should be the same. In your case either the turns ratio are not 1 to 1 or you have a shorted turn in the primary winding. If it a shorted turn then even though the actual turns ratio is 1 to 1, if there is a shorted turn in the primary, the electrical turns ratio will not be the same. If you connect the transformer with the secondary as the primary, your output voltage RMS will be lower. 73 Dave KD1NA From: Vic K2VCO v...@rakefet.com To: Elecraft Reflector elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Sun, August 1, 2010 5:24:04 PM Subject: [Elecraft] Speaking of off-shore manufacture... Right after updating to the beta firmware, I tested the CW QRQ and found it to really be excellent. I went from 50 wpm up to 100 wpm in 10 wpm increments and the keying is just excellent. The characters are perfectly formed up to 100 wpm, but around 95 or so wpm, something like an AGC hang occurred. But they have done a really good job with this. Now if I can just solve the K3/N1MM communications problem I'll be all set..hihi. [Elecraft] K3 Firmware bug w/K144XV
K3 s/n running v4.03 f/w KRX3 installed K144XV installed Have entered a local repeater freq/offset/pl tone into VFO A Output/K3 RX: 147.285, positive offset (147.885 Tx) pl 103.5 Have another local repeater output freq on VFO B: 146.760 Can hear both repeaters fine. Once I TX on VFO to use the first repeater (Txing on 147.885), the Sub RX readout changes to 147.760. (The MHz digits go to the same as VFO A.) However, if I use an HT to open the second repeater (146.760 output), The K3 can still hear it, even though the display says 1 MHz higher. So, it looks like a display shift, rather than actual operating frequency. This behavior is the same whether VFO IND is Yes or No. I understand that the K144XV uses different LO crystals for 144-146 vs. 146-148, and simultaneous monitoring of 2 freqs in separate segments would not be allowed. However, these two repeaters are both in the upper segment, and the firmware should allow this. Can anyone else replicate this behavior? -Bruce N1RX __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

An interesting separately purchasable option for a P3 would be a board that communicated to the second K3 or other rig (a second IF IN and RS232) and had various ways of watching either/both, e.g. upper half screen on rig 1, lower half on rig 2. 73, Guy. Re: [Elecraft] P3 in SO2R
Sorry, no. I'd suggest you connect the P3 to the SP rig. I'm finding uses beyond those I expected. It's great for SP and to find a relatively clear space to start running. The waterfall display makes all the difference in the world. You can see the CW dots and dashes and some indication of relative signal strength. Makes it much easier to find holes between stations (for CQing) or weak traces for stations that you might otherwise tune by in SP. Funny how that works, the weak stations are sometimes tasty multipliers... 73 de Dick, K6KR -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of K5WA Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 2010 9:29 AM To: 'Elecraft reflector' Subject: [Elecraft] P3 in SO2R I'm hoping someone here has a quick answer before I start digging into the manual... ;-) Does the P3 have the capability to connect to two K3s and display the received IF of the opposite rig when one rig is transmitting? Re: [Elecraft] K3 and N1MM Logger
First of all, if you can talk to your K3 via your PC using the utility, the problem is NOT in the K3. Are you using the same computer to run the K3 utility as you are when running N1MM with the K3? Is there anything else on the RS232 line besides the PC and MM. If so, disconnect it. Is there any other program that looks at the same com port. If so shut it down. Does that program have a boot-up driver that runs all the time, then stop it. Try again. I'd guess half of K3 owners are on 4.03, and it has been out for quite a while. If there was an endemic RS232 problem it would have been howled out of existence a while ago. I note that you are setting memory locations. I think that is a real risk with Win 7 (I have Win 7 pro, using 4.03, a REAL serial port on a PCI-X serial card using one of three extra video slots that will never be used otherwise, and I let the OS configure memory locations and IRQ's (I don't understand your comment about Win 7 not supporting real serial ports -- that's simply not true, it's running here.) I have the hardware drivers for the serial card set up to claim COM1 and COM2. These are on board and operational at boot up, not when something is plugged in, which will always be a problem for USB configure at USB plug-in-time. 73, Guy. The new beta K3 firmware was packaged with an updated K3UtilityVersionInfo.txt file that causes the message about a newer K3 Utility version being available. Sometimes we have to guess what order things will go out, and this time I guessed wrong. Your current K3 Utility will do what it's supposed to do with the new firmware. In checking my serial cables, I found the DB-9 connector to the K3 had slipped partially out of the K3 connector. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Production Firmware Rev. 4.05: Support for P3 Panadapter
Hi, The FTP site is a little confusing. I can't find the usual zip file for 4.05. I find a zip for 4.03 and it looks like if I download that and replace hmcu403.hex with hmcu405.hex and the release notes file, I should be all set? All the other files are unchanged from 4.03? It's much easier if each new release has a complete zip file. I also found and downloaded the install for utility 1.3.7.26. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Production Firmware Rev. 4.05: Support for P3 Panadapter
Knut- 4.05 has been designated a regular production release. You do not use the FTP method for regular production releases, only for beta releases. Just start K3UTIL, and check the box that says Copy new files from Elecraft into local folder. Then click the button that says Check Versions Now. It should recognize the new firmware and download it. You can then load it into your K3. [Elecraft] K3 - No power out on 6M
I haven't used my K3 in a couple of weeks, but the thought of working some Au tonight got me going. The power didn't vary at all with the power control, except when the PA clicked in or out. Very little current being drawn. Power out is normal on all other bands. Re: [Elecraft] K3 assembly, resistance checks
Sounds like a meter issue Mike. All you're looking for there is a short circuit or not. The values given are those that should be the least on normally sees due to normal currents through the circuits, but there are a lot of solid state junctions in the transistors and i.c.s. It sounds like your meter is supplying enough voltage to start to turn some junctions on so they draw more current resulting in a lower resistance, then your meter switches ranges to one with less voltage and they again turn off and so on. Try using a manually-selected fixed range and see how it acts. I'm also unclear how the two interrelate; does the KDVR3 override or replace the CW memories when it is installed, or does it function only in SSB mode? - 73, Stan - KR7C -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3DVR-vs-CW-Memories-tp5371027p5371027.html Sent from the [K3] mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html -- Gary VK4FD - Motorhome Mobile http://www.qsl.net/vk4fd/ K3 #679 For everything else there's Mastercard!!! __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3: KPA3 100w amp
Other than the price, have there been any changes to the KPA3 module (and associated parts/fans) since it was first introduced? Minor changes in some component values is my understanding. I am still using the original PA in S/N 2 (pre-FT). 73, Lyle KK7P __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3DVR vs CW Memories
It only functions in SSB mode... It actually functions in any voice mode: SSB, AM and FM. 73, Lyle KK7P __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] OT: Pacificon 2010?
Since the folks at Elecraft are super busy with getting the P3 out the door, I'll ask the left coast side of the reflector Should Ken and I attend Pacificon in October? I assume Elecraft will be there. How does it compare to Visalia in attendance? Visalia definitely pays for us from an order perspective. 73!
