Re: [Elecraft] P3SVGA
Hi, If your monitor has a native resolution that is not one of the selections on the P3 menu you should contact Elecraft support and they will consider adding it to the list in a future firmware revision. This matter was discussed extensively when the SVGA was first announced. So your problem should only be temporary. Regarding the amplitude differences between the K3 and P3, please remember that both the K3 and P3 require calibration. A signal source like the XG2 is needed to perform this procedure. The steps are described in the manuals on the following pages: K3 manual page 51 (S meter calibration) P3 manual pages 24 and 25 (amplitude calibration) If you don't have a signal source and you feel comfortable that the K3 is correct, you can probably manually adjust the P3 to equal the K3 and consider that adequate. 73, Mike K2MK radiobuf wrote Installed my P3SVGA and have two things that I need help with. 1st I have a new monitor 23 Acer HD-1080P. Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] All the polling
HI Frank: Hmmm. I personally doubt that any competitors are doing market research via polls at least not polls on an interest group. For one thing, all they would need to do is read the email postings. They'd learn all they need to know to be competitive. For example: Elecraft makes innovative ham gear. Elecraft gear is ranked very high in performance. Elecraft prides itself in after-sale customer service. Elecraft updates and improves their product lines, and offers free updates of firmware. Elecraft equipment owners are a very loyal customer base. Elecraft's officers -participate- in the email dialog, often taking to heart, ideas generated by customers. Elecraft is beating them at their own game. Well, maybe. Elecraft is a smaller company, but they are doing an extraordinary job. 73 de Ray K2ULR On Mar 22, 2012, at 8:58 AM, Frank Allen wrote: Once or twice is ok, borderline interesting. Running the Alpha at 1500 watts has not caused any problems with the monitor. Neither amp causes a problem at all. My test was on 75 meters. I have not made this test on any other band yet. Now, when I switch the power supply on, the P3 comes up and waits for the K3 to be powered up. A little clunky, but once the mod is available to make the K3 supply a bit more current, I'll do that and then everything will be back to normal again. If you are like a few of us that run the K3 at ~15v, you will find no mod is necessary, and the P3SVGA runs happy all day Long from the K3 with no mod. That is my experience. [Elecraft] DVI connectors with an P3SVGA
I had planned to use my one video monitor which has has both a VGA connector and DVI connector with my PC and the P3SVGA. It would seem the DVI-A (analog) is the only connector that will work with VGA. But I could be wrong. A second monitor would be nice but due to available space I would prefer just one. Re: [Elecraft] two k3's on the same band
Matt, We've used two K3's on 160 Meters driving a common 1500 Watt amplifier at W3LPL in the CQ ARRL DX contests for the past few years with no problems. Frank has eight 500+ feet long Beverage antennas located a couple of hundred of feet from the 4-Square antenna. On CW the K3 op listening for mults is able to receive on most of the Beverages as close at 10 KHz from the transmit frequency. The K3's are isolated from the Beverages by a band pass filter and preamp. Antennas for the other HF bands, also fed with a KW, are even closer to the Beverages and have no effect at all on the 160M K3 transceivers. About the only thing that will blow the preamps is a lightning strike. At home with a barefoot K3 at 100 Watts, I feed 4 switched Beverage antennas to the K3's sub-receiver using a common preamp. The antennas are as close as 50 feet with no sign of the overload relay clicking in. 73, Rich - K1HTV = = = -Original Message- From: Matt Murphy [mailto:m...@nq6n.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2012 15:24 PM To: Elecraft Reflector Subject: [Elecraft] two k3's on the same band Just wondering if anyone has any experience using two K3's on the same band (for example, one for running, one for mults in a multi-op single transmitter scenario). Re: [Elecraft] DVI connectors with an P3SVGA
Hi Joe, Save your money, it won't work. My understanding is that DVI is a digital format and the SVGA card is an analog format. So while you can get cables and and/or adapters that will fit they just won't work. I haven't received my SVGA card yet but in preparation I conducted an experiment with my PC using a DVI adapter. I connected the VGA output of the PC to the DVI input of the monitor using a DVI adapter on the end of the VGA cable. The monitor won't recognize the analog signal on the DVI input. So here's what I did. My PC has both a VGA and a DVI output. I used the VGA output from the PC to drive the primary monitor. I then used the DVI output from the PC to drive the secondary monitor. I then put a VGA cable on the other input to the secondary monitor and have it in position to attach to the P3 as soon as UPS drops off the card. I only use the secondary monitor to display the VE7CC cluster program and there is a front mounted button on the monitor to switch between the two inputs. If your PC has a VGA and DVI output you can do exactly what I did with your single monitor. The only difficulties incurred were trying to get the PC display program to properly identify monitor number 1 and monitor number 2. I fiddled with it for quite a while but I don't remember what I did to get it right. You should have no problem with only one monitor. (As an aside, you can get very inexpensive DVI adapters in all of the various formats on eBay by way of China or other Asian destinations). Usually for under $3.00 including shipping). 73, Mike K2MK Joe Ford-2 wrote I had planned to use my one video monitor which has has both a VGA connector and DVI connector with my PC and the P3SVGA. Hi, I would suggest checking your monitors settings to make sure it is not in a full compatibility mode (the names seem to change. It might be different for your monitor). That is, the monitor can expand a 4x3 image to fit the 16x9 HD image vertically and thus chop off parts of the image on the sides and eliminate the black bar problem. Do you run a nvidia linux driver? try nomodeset in kernel boot line. To set kernel boot options, you must edit your grub configuration. You can do this temporarily for a single boot by entering the grub menu. If you do not get to see the grub boot menu after the bios automatically, you may have to press SHIFT key after the bios logo to get in to grub: Select the default ubuntu kernel (usually the top one), and rather than pressing enter, press E to edit. Press DOWN ARROW until you get to the line that starts with Code:linux /boot and press END keys to position your cursor at the end of the that line usually ending with “quiet splash”. Now you can type in additional kernel option: nomodeset Press control+X to boot the modified grub entry To permanently change the default kernel boot options, press ALT+F2 or open a terminal from system accessories terminal. Type in the following command: Code: gksudo gedit /etc/default/gruba text editor will open with the grub configuration file. Near the top of that file you will see something very similar to this: Code: GRUB_DEFAULT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2 /dev/null || echo Debian` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=add your custom boot options to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line, so for instance: Code: GRUB_DEFAULT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2 /dev/null || echo Debian` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=Save the file and exit gedit. It also came with a DVI-SVGA adapter which I later used with an analog monitor. Bob. N7XY On Mar 22, 2012, at 2:17 PM, Mike K2MK wrote: Hi Joe, Save your money, it won't work. I ordered a cable with VGA male and DVI male connectors to interface the SVGA. However, the cable I got has a DVI connector which does not match the one on the monitor. The cable has a DVI-A while monitor appears to accept either a DVI-D or DVI-I, I'm not sure which it is. I gained what little I know about DVI from the internet. It would seem the DVI-A (analog) is the only connector that will work with VGA. But I could be wrong. A second monitor would be nice but due to available space I would prefer just one. Does anyone know enough about the DVI offer advice? Thanks. Re: [Elecraft] P3SVGA 1920x1080
Last time I had a problem like that, it was the monitor, and it needed to calibrate or something like that. It was one of the monitor menu items. Ran whatever that was on the monitor and all was cool. 73, Guy. On mine, it also does not display properly in 1920x1080. I have an Acer H243H monitor. It natively supports Full HD, 1920x1080p. When I set the P3 SVGA output to 1920x1080, the monitor confirms that it has switched to that resolution. However, the P3 image appears to extend off the right of the screen. That is to say, the full span to the right is not displayed. The vertical span is fine. There also appear to be small white dots moving horizontally through the spectrum portion of the display, as if the display is wrapping somehow. (This is no doubt an inaccurate description, but the best I can do. I have tried reloading all firmware (1.12) and FPGA files to no effect. Note that the monitor displays my PCs output at 1920x1080 using the DVI (rather than VGA) input with no problems, so I know the monitor is capable. For now, I am running at 1440x900 from the P3 with no problems. 73, Bruce, N1RX 1080 overflows my 1080P monitor also. snip Rick K6LE __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] DVI connectors with an P3SVGA
There are different flavours of DVI DVI-a is analogue and can be adapted to VGA DVI-d is digital only and cannot be adapted to vga without an expensive ($150+) adapter. DVI-I is integrated digital and analogue. and can be adapted to VGA with a basic adapter. if you Google DVI types and look for images in your results there are plenty of pictures showing how to tell what you have. its quite possible that your monitors DVI connector could be DVI-I my PC in the shack has VGA out only and is connected via VGA to DVI cable to the monitor On 3/22/2012 1:17 PM, Joe Ford wrote: I had planned to use my one video monitor which has has both a VGA connector and DVI connector with my PC and the P3SVGA. Re: [Elecraft] DVI connectors with an P3SVGA
Hi Bob. I have a lot of DVI-to-VGA adapters but they turned out to not be DVI-D (digital only) but rather DVI-I (both analog and digital) to VGA. There is also DVI-A (analog only) connector. My monitor has a DVI-D and a VGA connector so the DVI adapters I had and could find would not fit. 73, tom n4zpt On 3/22/2012 9:59 PM, Bob Nielsen wrote: DVI connectors will do both analog and digital, if the connected device supports both. [Elecraft] P3 SVGA
If I change the resolution on my P3 to 1920X1080, the fixed tune mode really looks very skimpy. I find that by setting the P3 to 1024X768 my wide screen Samsung monitor automatically frames the image to fill the wide screen. The image is sharp.
