Re: [Elecraft] psk-31 programs for K3 and KX3

2013-05-23 Thread K5HM
Chris,
I use both FLDIGI and Digipan with my K3 without issues, along with a
Signalink USB soundcard,Fldigi mostly when I'm contesting with N1MM
Logger and Digipan otherwise.

I'm using HRD 5.24 for logging now but don't use DM780.

I also use HRD / DM780. It works fine for me. Initially, v6 was a little
shaky but they've smoothed it out pretty well. I use it more now than I did
with my FT-857D.

I hope Keith is right and they incorporate WSJT into it. I've been using
that mode a lot lately.

[Elecraft] K3 SSB Settings - First time for voice

2013-05-23 Thread KC6CNN
I purchased K3 Serial #6294 over a year ago. I was all into digital modes. I
still am, but have been playing with voice the last two days. Can someone
suggest good settings for me. Between Shift, Width, lo and hi cut, nb level,
nr adj, dsp. I have played with them all. Guess I am not real familiar with
voice anymore. I set the nr adj but it gets a "woo woo" sound. lol best way
to explain it. hihi DSP T settings don't seem to do anything. nb not much
effect. hi low cut understandable. but width I can get it all the way down
to a ringing sound. Any settings or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

[Elecraft] KX3 questions

2013-05-23 Thread Allen Bush
Greetings:  I just subscribed although I've been an Elecraft customer for a
long time (K1, K2 with all accessories, etc). I built a KX3 over the Christmas
holidays and am just now getting a chance to use it.  2 questions. Is it
normal to have noise that is "tuneable"  especially across 40 meters?  (that is
is is frequency specific with the antenna DISCONNECTED)?  It raises the
s-meter one or 2 units when tuning.. This is NOT noise from the local area.
Also, my unit seems to be "microphonic" in that if I lightly tap the case a LOT
of crackling comes from the speaker.  This seems to get much worse if I don't
have the case screws tight.  I am a very experienced builder and Motorola bench
tech so am not new to RF.  Any help would be appreciated.  THANKS!  Allen, W0OUU

This being the first time I have used the new Mac KX3 Utility (v1.13.4.29),
I still cannot get it to go through an entire load of new FW. It gets about
1/2-way through the DSP update and quits. I only tried once, it quits at
roughly the same spot as in the past.

I've heard all the "it works fine here" responses so I realize the program
works. It just doesn't work for me.

apps helps, but mainly I download firmware into my KX3 only with a fresh
instance of the KX3 Utility. E.g., if I download the KX3 microprocessor
code (successfully), then start downloading the DSP code without quitting
and relaunching the KX3 Utility app, it usually crashes. So launch KX3
utility, download microprocessor code, quit KX3 utility, launch KX3 utility,
download DSP code, quit KX3 utility.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Mac Utility - I Give Up

2013-05-23 Thread Peter Lambert
If you are using USB to serial gizmo get a genuine FTDI one (you can buy
them from digikey). I've had lots of strange issues with serial SW since
"real" serial ports disappeared. They all ended up being dodgy drivers for
the cheapy serial things. The FTDI USB devices have 100% fixed these
problems.

Re: [Elecraft] Musings on a "K4"

2013-05-23 Thread Bill Frantz
Sorry for the length. I've tried to put the really lengthy parts
in footnotes.

General Comments:

I like building things and soldering[1]. I talked with Eric at a
show and he had cogent things to say about support costs for SMT
kits, but with my Heathkit background I think we need to give
young people the experience of building with modern techniques
so they can compete in inventing new devices.

Touch screens can be really bad.[2] I can still use my K3 by
touch at night when I haven't turned the lights on. Also think
about blind hams and other handicaps.

Any new-design radio should have a direct digital audio
interface to computers.[3]

The radio should be designed for complete remote control[4].

Reducing the maze of wires is certainly desirable.

Mouse click to panadapter tune would be nice.

As a K3/10 owner, I am not overly impressed with the need to
have >100W in the box. I like the clean signal argument Joe
presented though.

Cheers - Bill, AE6JV

[1] It took me 18 months to decide between the K2 and K3. I
looked at it as:

K2:
  + Real kit
  + Smaller
  + Less receive power
  + Less $$$
  - Poorer specs
  - Poorer support for sound-card digital

K3:
  + Better specs
  + Good sound-card digital support
+ The rest of the K line

I finally got off the dime at RadioFest near Monterey CA after
my wife (a retired Apple software QA engineer) spent 15 minutes
discussing the K3 UI with an Elecraft booth attendant. When she
approved the UI and was willing to pony up the $$$ for a minimal
K3 I jumped on it. My show benefit was free shipping the 30
miles or so from Watsonville.

[2] My iPhone frequently doesn't recognize my touch. Wetting my
finger tip helps. I have really big fingers, glove size XL. I
like the touch screens that can be used with a stylus because I
can use my finger nail with them. As a touch typist, touch
screen keyboards are awful.

[3] The radio could include a general purpose computer as part
of the package. Deciding on computer features makes this choice
less desirable. (Ducking the Mac/Linux/Windows wars.)

[4] Being able to set the radio up for remote operation becomes
more important as more and more hams live with antenna
restrictions or travel. , Also allowing the final amp and
receiver front end to be near the antenna feed point is quite
valuable at higher frequencies.

[Elecraft] Selling out -- K3, other stuff

2013-05-23 Thread Bill VanAlstyne W5WVO
I’m selling my Elecraft K3 for either $2,100 or $2,300, depending on whether I
sell it as-is or send it in to Elecraft first for repair of speaker audio, plus
all relevant hardware updates since June 2010.

Description:

K3/100-F (100 W Transceiver)
KAT3 (Internal ATU with 2nd Ant. Jack)
KBPF3 (General Coverage RX Bandpass Module)
PR6 (Low Noise 6m GaAs FET Preamp, 0.5 dB typ) SOLD
KXV3 (RX Ant., IF Out and Xverter Interface)
KFL3A-400 (400 Hz, 8-pole)
KFL3A-1.8K (1.8 kHz, 8-pole)
KFL3A-2.7K (2.7 kHz, 5-pole)
KFL3A-6K (6 kHz AM/ESSB)

TOTAL COST TO BUILD THIS RIG AS A KIT WITH CURRENT KIT PRICES: $2,979.70
Rounding off to nearest $100: $3,000 new in kit form today.

Pros and cons:

+ Cosmetically indistinguishable from a new K3
+ No physical damage (scratches, dings, dents, etc.)
+ No weird intermittent problems
+ Factory assembled
+ Cool S/N #888
+ One owner (me)
+ Never in a smoking environment
+ Original fracturing concentric knobs all replaced
+ Everything works as designed EXCEPT speaker amplifier
+ 6m preamp included SOLD

- Speaker amplifier non-functional.
(Elecraft estimate to repair, align, and do all factory mods to present:
$150)
- No hardware mods since June 2010
- Does not have original factory packaging (?) I will look, but I don’t think
so.

(1) I will send it to Elecraft and get it completely repaired, aligned, and
up-to-date if you desire. In this mode, the price is $2,300, UPS shipped and
insured. (REDUCED – was $2,7000). I just checked with Elecraft, and they will
send the repaired/upgraded K3 directly to you. If you want to do it that way,
let me know, giving me your address and phone number. It will be shipped UPS
Ground by Elecraft. If you’re in central CA, you could pick it up there and
save the shipping cost (at the trade-off of the gasoline cost, hi).

(2) I will sell it as-is for $2,100, UPS shipped and insured. (REDUCED – was
$2,450). The speaker amp going out is a common failure mode. Elecraft could
tell you how to fix it and send you the parts. They might want you to replace
the whole board the speaker amp is on, or they may just want you to replace the
IC, in which case you would need to be proficient at SME work. You can talk to
Elecraft about that.

TERMS:
If item(s) are to be shipped, pay in advance by (1) PayPal, (2) Bank Certified
Check, (3) Bank Cashier’s Check, or (4) Wire Transfer of Funds (ask me for bank
details). If you come pick it up in Rio Rancho, NM, you can also pay by cash if
you like, and probably get a discount because of the time and expense it saves
me. Please, no personal checks (not certified) or “bank checks” (not certified)
or money orders of any kind. NO EXCEPTIONS.

GlenMartin RT-424 4.5’ aluminum roof tower. Can disassemble & ship UPS, but
real PITA; reduced price

already been sold, and the
roof tower didn’t come with it anyway. Separate item.

Wood/steel roof tower mounting platform for flat roofs. No holes in roof! Free.
Pickup only (ABQ, NM).

Mast, 20’ long, 2.0” O.D., 1/4” wall thickness aluminum tubing (not pipe).
Pickup only (ABQ, NM).
Shipping by common carrier freight (only option) is cost-prohibitive. This
kind of aluminum tubing, if you
can even find it, is extremely costly (not even considering the very high
truck freight charges). My price
will be much, much less if you pick it up. Probably save 85-90%.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Mac Utility - I Give Up

2013-05-23 Thread NZ9E
Joel,

I've noticed an apparent memory leak in the Mac KX3 Utility app. After the
leak hits some critical threshold, the app crashes on me. My apologies to
Elecraft for not yet submitting a bug report.

To check if this is your problem: open the Apple Mac app "Activity Monitor"
and click the "System Memory" tab. Then choose "Windowed Processes" from
the menu to make it easier to find the "Elecraft KX3 Utility" process in the
list. Now run the KX3 Utility and start the firmware download. Watch the
free memory (green in pie chart); if it's dropping like the gas gauge in an
SUV, and if the Real and Virtual Memory numbers for the KX3 Utility process
are rising, then you would seem to be on the right track.

My workaround: I have 8 GB of (real) memory, which is high enough that I

Re: [Elecraft] K4? No, I want a KX2!

2013-05-23 Thread EricJ
Put me on THAT list. I just picked up a second K2 that would be perfect
as a KX2.

SMT is a breeze with a magnifying bench lamp, a decent soldering
station, tweezers and a reasonably steady hand. You have to learn a
couple of different and sometimes scary techniques. Melting all the pins
together into a long solder blob on an expensive SMT chip, then wicking
off the excess took some guts on the first AmQRP DDS-30 I did, but I
built three DDS-60s after that and every single one of them worked first
time I applied power. I was attracted to Elecraft to build electronics,
not to assemble hardware--I hate that part. hi.

1) K3 with Dell 2.33 duo-core, XP32 SP3 which is currently connected
with Elecraft USB/RS232 cable and emu0202 soundcard.
2) KX3 with Dell laptop which is being upgraded to win-8 pro from
Vista. I will build an interface to the laptop soundcard and use the
KX3-USB cable.

I am planning to have the KX3 ready for psk-31 (QRP-battery run) for FD.

thanks,

Also, wrap the stack in black plastic wrap.
But first put in a lead ingot, so it will be as heavy as the FT-5000.
And use blue-tinted wrap to cover the front panel so the display will be Yaesu

True, but SMT isn't so hard.. I thought it would be, but then built a Weber MTR
and it worked the first time around.. Components are very small, but with the
right tool, including a magnifying lens, it is fairly easy.. So, a
surface-mount kit option would be great.

the Apple lightining connector. It looks like the new lightning camera

do the same functions as the 30 pin camera adapter that many have

Re: [Elecraft] K4? No, I want a KX2!

2013-05-23 Thread Rick Dettinger
My idea of a KX2 would be to rework the K2 with a factory built DDS, maybe from
the KX3, but the rest would be the user built K2 in a K2 box. This could
include general coverage.
I think many hams would like to build from parts and use their soldering irons.
This would be a cross between the KX1 block diagram and the K2 performance.

Joel,

I suspect you may have a marginal KXUSB adapter. While it may work okay with
the Windows driver, it seems to not be reliable using the OS X driver. I've
seen this happen before. It could start failing on Windows too at some point.
Try contacting Elecraft support and see if they will send you another KXUSB to
try.

This is assuming you have the most current FTDI driver installed on your Mac.

Personally, I'd be happy if I could upgrade my K3 to get rid of all the
clutter on the back panel. Give me a single Ethernet connection that allows
me rig control, audio in/out, digital modes, IQ out, remote control, etc.
That would eliminate a ton of wiring.

I use a Icon IC-9100 for VHF/UHF work. It is a pleasure to move that radio
around. Power, Antenna, USB are the only things hooked up in the back. My
K3 on the other hand has: Paddle in, Key in, audio in, audio out, rig
control, cable for tuner and amp, IF output, FSK input, antenna and power
(10 cables).

The K3 is light, highly portable, and is a performance dream. It just
requires 50 pounds of cables to attach to everything!

Given the modular approach of the K3, it should be possible swap out the
traditional stuff and supply a digital connection as an option.

By the way, I have never had a RFI issue with a Ethernet USTP network. All
my computer cables/switches work just fine. Can't say the same about all
the other connectors and cables. So going over to a single digital
connection makes for a more robust electromagnetic compatibility situation
as well. Heck, it could even be WiFi.

Re: [Elecraft] Musings on a "K4"

2013-05-23 Thread Jim Dunstan

Hi

I'm sure Elecraft is picking up a few interesting suggestions from
this thread so I might as well throw my ideas in as well. I really
like computers and a clean desk. I would like to be able to have
complete control of an excellent radio such as the K3 from my
computer and to be able to locate my radio out of site. In fact I
would like to locate the radio at the back of the house downstairs
where the antenna cables come in from outside. The radio would then
NOT NEED ANY CONTROLS just control and power cable
connectors. The radio could then be sold at a reduced price. The
'black box' radio would be totally functional as the present K3 and
the computer control software in effect would act as a 'dumb
terminal' and I am sure any number of 3rd party developers would
bring out attractive versions (such as N4PY). The old Ten Tec
Pegasus followed this design. For those who really like the feel of
the knobs and switches of a 'real radio' a radio front like the K3/0
could be made available and could have complete control of the 'black
box' located under the desk. It seems that elecraft is already a
long way along this path. In addition to the K3/0 a K3/-1 might be
considered (a K3/-1 being the black box).

I can't imagine why that would interest anyone -- the 7000 has a user

and it's essentially a cheapie radio with cheapie radio performance.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and P3 Adapter

2013-05-23 Thread Mark Petiford
Even with a cheap soundcard, you should be able to see something other than
noise...unless the band is dead.  Can you tune around the band and hear signals
on the KX3?  If not, you aren't going to see anything on the PC.  A lower
quality soundcard should not limit WHAT is displayed, but it will probably
display things that aren't really there as a result of ground loops, dc-offset
in the card, etc.  Those thing usually don't move as you tune the KX3 since
they are introduced downstream of the radio.  Real RF signals will move as you
re-tune the radio.

I don't use HDSDR, but have in the past using Softrock radios.  Getting it set
up properly can be difficult because it has lots of options.  I was active in
the Softrock Yahoo group several years ago, and most everyone would use Rocky
SDR software (www.dxatlas.com/Rocky) to get their radios up and running.  If
you can get Rocky to access the soundcard (it requires exclusive access), then
it will faithfully display what it sees at the mic or line input of the PC.  It
is a rock solid program with a really great frequency
domain display.  Unfortunately, it can't control the KX3, so I use it as a pan
adapter only with FLDIGI as my main program (they both run at the same time).

A good way to test is with a separate signal source rather than relying on
signals on the bands.  I use an old Norcal signal generator which generates
signals every 5 khz.  When I see these signals, and they move when I tune the
radio, I know I am demodulating the IQ stream.

Don't hesitate to come back hear and ask more questions.  I am sure some of the
folks using HDSDR can help...or give Rocky a try.

Try a TS-990 plenty of weight there or a 9000MP plenty of HP but you need a
2 wheeler two too move it. The FTDX-5000MP is a good choice for home.

I would expect the K3 to remain the premiere "on the go" radio but I still
want a "real radio" for *home station operation* without the need for four
or five boxes.

Re: [Elecraft] Griffin Imic used...

2013-05-23 Thread Jeff Ellis
Apple makes a lighting version of the camera connector kit. I am using that. It
plugs right in and gives you a short cable to connect the iMic to. It should be
nicer then using the 30pin adapter plus a camera kit. It is also cheeper to not
buy the adapter. If you already own the 30pin camera kit buy the Apple made
adapter, if not just get the new version of the kit.

FYI I have tried a 3rd party lighting to 30pin adapter and it worked for
syncing and charging but not accessories like the camera kit so don't go that
way.

[Elecraft] Musings on a "K4"

2013-05-23 Thread Edward Dickinson III
K4 = tablet program and dock..?

Dick - KA5KKT

How about a K4/KX4 built in a format like an iMac

(computer/monitor/all-in-one) or iPad with apps that provide needed user

interface, and external I/O for amps, P4, keyboard (wireless?) and

such. Would be fun with an N1MM app and general logger. Internet

interface for uploading to LoTW, ClubLog, etc.

Re: [Elecraft] Griffin Imic used...

2013-05-23 Thread T Gahagan
New Apple devices now use a connector called the "Lightning Connector"
instead of the old 30 pin connector. You need an adapter to go from the
lightning connector to the old style 30 pin connector. These are available
anywhere Apple devices are sold. The Griffin iMic works fine with the
adapter.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Mac Utility - I Give Up

2013-05-23 Thread Walter Underwood
I would start Console (in the Utilities folder), choose "All Messages", then
start the KX3 Utility and see what is logged.

For example, I just ran it connected to a serial device that does not have a
KX3 connected and saw a number of these:

5/23/13 8:19:25.000 AM kernel: ttyioss1201: enqueueData rtn (e2d8)
5/23/13 8:19:26.000 AM kernel: ttyioss1201: enqueueData rtn (e2d8)
5/23/13 8:19:26.000 AM kernel: ttyioss1201: enqueueData rtn (e2d8)

Not very helpful to me, but it might help Elecraft debug it.

Also probably worth checking that your FTDI driver is up to date, though they
don't seem to have changed them in a while.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and P3 Adapter

2013-05-23 Thread KM4VX
Must be some interest in the topic!! I have a line connected from the I/Q
output of the KX3 (with the menu ON) into my PC sound card, line in. Nothing
happens using the HDSDR software on the waterfall although I can control the
KX3. Not receiving signals, just noise. Question: What sound cards are
people finding useful? My generic Realistic PC sound card is apparently
inadequate. The Creative Labs E MU0202 which is popular seems out of stock
most places. While I would prefer a P3 setup, that doesn't look like its
going to happen so I would like to abuse my PC a bit and try out what is
available now. Thanks

If I stack the KPA-500 on the bottom, KAT-500 next up and K3 and put the P3
next to that stack, then it will look like one radio - hi hi.

Hey, that's what I will do.

The TS-990 still has no test results released yet and I personally have no
use for 130+ knobs and buttons that may only be used once during setup for
many.

I have a few things I might wish for on a K4 but very few and all could be

I have one of the new Alpha 4040 auto tuners on order and it has one of the
touch screens on it with a lot that it controls. I do mean a lot of
different things including a smith chart display. I am holding my opinion on
this touch screen till I finally receive it. My Smartphone's have had them
for a long time your right about the prices I would think.

As most of you know the new soon to be released Icom 7100 has a touch screen
on it, it is the replacement for the IC-7000 and I'm going to have one if
they are ever released.

Just for concept discussion, it would be really interesting to use a TFT LCD
5" hi-res color touch screen as part of a new front panel for the K3. Just
a new front panel interface with a lot of the "knob"
functions accessible as a touch menu items on the screen.

Because of the hi-volume use of this technology in the cellphone industry,
prices should be low, and software development libraries mature.

This would then open up a significant advance in the GUI and features
available in the radio, like maybe a limited bandscope.

I have no idea if this is code-compatible with the existing K3? But
nonetheless fun to dream about.

Re: [Elecraft] Musings on a K4

2013-05-23 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

In spite of what others say, I generally agree with the list.

Although I think 400W may be "over the top" - 150 to 200W output
with a 48V PA power supply would be extremely useful for those
who do not use external power amplifiers and would provide much
better transmit IMD numbers (cleaner signals).

In addition to the built-in P3, I would include an SVGA output
(P3SVGA), separate "TERMINAL" (DB9) I/O, and USB accessory jacks
(support for keyboard, mouse, and "Shuttle Pro" as a remove VFO
and macro device).

I would also include - "band stacking" registers with true single
button per band band selection; selectable optimized preamps for
6m and 10/12m; operation to 400 KHz (for the 490 KHz allocation
when it becomes available); place the "notch" *inside* the AGC;
make the noise reduction more effective; review/eliminate some of
the dual function (tap/hold) switches - particularly operation of
"SUB" and AFX/DATA MD; wideband (100 KHz) I/Q input and output
for external software support.

It sounds like the K3 Keyout is not working, It is easy to test that --

If it does not go to a low resistance, it is time to contact K3support.

Re: [Elecraft] Griffin Imic used...

2013-05-23 Thread Andrew Moore
Apple's Lightning to 30 pin adapter should work with that setup on the
newer (Lightning) models. I am using Griffin iMic with newer iPad mini
(Lightning) and the adapter no prob. I suggest you use Apple's one not a
knockoff.

Re: [Elecraft] hooking up a K3 to a Alpha 76

2013-05-23 Thread Jack Brabham
I am having a similar problem, the K3 doesn't key up my 76A. Not a
molex problem, since the amp keys if I pull the cable from the K3 "key
out" and short the center pin to the shield. Someone mentioned "config
settings", but I'm not seeing any that seem relevant to "Key Out". So
my question is "What config settings?".

This happens on my K3/Al-80B combo.

Re: [Elecraft] Musings on a K4

2013-05-23 Thread Doug Turnbull
Hi All,
KY6R is entitled to dream as we all do.For me though any rig with
more than 100 Watts output is problematic. I want to be able to drive an
amplifier without danger of instantly frying its grids or input circuit.
Most casual operations here are at 65 Watts without an amplifier.

The modular construction of the K line is one of its strong points.
One can purchase a basic K3 for a modest cost and then develop the station
to suit pocket and needs. I believe this has been a feature for Elecraft.
I even now accept the smaller size and light weight K3 as preferable.

It seems our favourite radio will be around for a long time to come and
somehow Elecraft will continue to improve this fine piece of engineering.
Thank you for this. In the meantime we all dream and this drives progress.

Now to become accustomed to a KX3 driving an Alex Loop while visiting
in W land.

Other than those two you have a K3 with a P3 and KPA500 a much better setup
plus it runs on 12v. Sorry I can't see any advantage with those add-ons in
fact they would be draw backs. I sold my FTDX-5000MP that I owned for 2 yrs

with the KPA500 for 6m and on the main loaded one an Alpha amp just HF. The
FTDX-5000MP was a very good radio in many respects a few of them better than
the K3 but you see what I choose. As I tell many people as far as I know
there has never been a perfect radioyet!

Don't tell anyone but my KX3 has to be close to the best QRP all mode ever
made 8>)

The TS-990 still has no test results released yet and I personally have no
use for 130+ knobs and buttons that may only be used once during setup for
many.

I have a few things I might wish for on a K4 but very few and all could be
done with a couple of new boards and small items. Keep it "SMALL" once I got
used to it it's great!

Re: [Elecraft] Griffin Imic used...

2013-05-23 Thread Lyle Johnson
The Dayton demo was a first generation iPad with the 30-pin expansion
connector. An Apple camera connection kit was used to bring out a USB
port from the 30-pin connector. The Griffin iMic was plugged into the
USB port. The KX3 cable kit was used to bring the IQ baseband signals
to the iMic. The app running was iSDR from the app store.

Re: [Elecraft] KX1 ATU Power = 0; r = 9.9

2013-05-23 Thread Don Wilhelm

Bruce,

What happens when you try it into a dummy load? What is the power
indication and what is the SWR indicated?

Put it into ATU CAL and try - what are the results?
Then put it into ATU TUN and try again - results?

Are resistors R3 and R4 swapped?
Remove the KXAT1 and measure the resistance between P1 pins 1 and 3 - it
should be zero.
Then put the KXAT1 back in and measure the resistance between the BNC
jack center conductor and lead 6 of T1 (the 1 turn winding) - you should
measure zero ohms if the connectors are mating properly.

(v1.13.4.29), I still cannot get it to go through an entire load of new
FW. It gets about 1/2-way through the DSP update and quits. I only
tried once, it quits at roughly the same spot as in the past.

I've heard all the "it works fine here" responses so I realize the
program works. It just doesn't work for me.

Uncle! I give up - Boot-camping into Windows.

[Elecraft] KX3 Utility (Linux version)

2013-05-23 Thread Dave B
Hi.

OK, KX3 kit has arrived, courtesy of a collegue who traveled to Dayton.
(Thanks Tim.) Not even emptied the box yet, as had "domestic duties" to
deal with last night. But, a long weekend coming up, so "soon"
hopefully.

In preparation, I've downloaded the KX3 utility from the Elecraft site
(Linux version as well as the Windows one.)

The Windows version installs and attempts to run, but hangs as it can't
see (yet) a KX3 to play with. Not the best policy needing the user to
break out "Task manager" to kill it and regain control of the PC, but...

The Linux version, after taking advice from some people with vastly more
experience in things Linux, still doesn't run. It's complaining about
being unable to find it's lib's. Even starting it as root doesn't help.

Also, paths/filenames with spaces in, is a distint no-no in posix based
systems in general, also the help folder has a lot of temporary file
dross shipped as standard. (That all works in the default browser by the
way.)

Anyway... So...

What is the **EXACT** procedure to "Install" that Linux version of
KX3Utility, in Lubuntu? What files go where, what permisions are needed
etc etc.

Or, is there an open source version, as building/installing from source
is usualy painless, even for me!

Though I have Windows machines in the shack, my diminutive Acer portable
PC that will inevitably accompany the KX3, is Lubuntu based.

73.
