Re: [Elecraft] KX3 FW 1.84
I'm glad it's working for you, Johnny. Of course it's a compromise since the "BCB=160" setting of the ATU's L-network no longer provides stiff filtering of the harmonic images. But sensitivity is probably the more pressing need in many cases, especially if you're using the KX3 in the field to get news via AM broadcast. 73, Wayne N6KR On Jan 4, 2014, at 11:06 PM, Johnny Siu wrote: > Hello Wayne, > > I am very pleased with the new FW for MW broadcast RX. [Elecraft] KX3 FW 1.84
Hello Wayne, I am very pleased with the new FW for MW broadcast RX. It now makes the KX3 really useful in receiving MW broadcast. Previously, I felt the sensitivity of KX3 below 1300KHz was worse than K3. [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, I was greeted by a pileated woodpecker this morning. He was making the tree right outside my window into wood chunks. They clear out the rot and the tree then heals over the scar. The trees seem to be used to it and the woodpecker was certainly enjoying it. I am glad he is not an early riser. Propagation was fairly good this week. Some QSB from aurora but little noise. There is a monster sunspot rotating into position for an earthward blast of ions. If it goes off within the next day we could be due for a huge dose of ions. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 External Transverter and ATU TUNE disable option suggestion
Dave, If you are referring to he Elecraft XV series transverters, then I suggest that you set up the transverter to use 4 watts input. That is a level that is quite controllable and the attenuator in the XV transverter will handle it with no problems. ATU Tune will behave as expected and no harm will come to the transverter. If you are using something other than the Elecraft XV series, then your comments are valid. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/4/2014 6:36 PM, David Anderson wrote: Dear Elecraft, I am planning to use my KX3 with an external transverter. Normally I would want a very low power level. I can set the maximum power when using a transverter using the XV H in the KX3 menu, this is very useful, however I believe that the ATU TUNE button will still try and tune at approx 3 watts even though I set a lower maximum power of say 0.1 watts in XV H. I thought perhaps that when an XV was selected in the BAND that the ATU TUNE would be disabled, or the ATU always put in BYPASS mode but it is not. I know I can put the ATU in bypass mode, but I am bound to forget one day, and accidentally press ATU TUNE and cause damage to my transverter. I guess I have a feature request, make sure that ATU TUNE button does not transmit when a XV is selected (ATU in bypass mode) , it would also be nice if the ATU mode was band specific. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Congrats, Bill - I got one for Christmas, thanks to a gracious XYL (KF6ZNT) and mine also worked on the first turn of the "key", so to speak. Very similar to the K3, but a few things being different take getting used to. The biggest thing is that I feel blind without that P3! How the heck did we cope back in "the day" before these pan adapters (fish spotters)? Need to investigate what's needed on the el cheapo to get a band display functioning here on my iMac with the KX3. Are you mainly a CW op, or no particular mode? Re: [Elecraft] Setting band breaks for SSB and CW on the K3
Mike, No way that I know of, and because the sub-bands vary between countries and license classes, it would take a lot of "figuring out" for the Elecraft folks to implement something like that automatically. You might think about using the M1 - M4 memory buttons to do something similar. These are per-band memories, so you have 4 for each band. On each band, I have M1 set up to take me to near my commonly used CW frequencies (remember that there are 2 VFOs in each memory, so you can get to 2 favorite frequencies with the A/B button too). M2 is set for my common SSB operating spots for each band. M3 sets me to my frequently used Data Mode frequencies. You might want to consider setting VFO A to the lower band limit for your license class and VFO B to the upper limit, or anything else that 'meets your fancy'. For me, M4 is reserved to set "on the fly" to any frequency I might want to return to quickly. Set up the VFO, mode, split, filter, etc for both VFOs before storing. It takes a bit of effort to do all bands that way, but once set up, it can stay in existence for a long time. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/4/2014 5:08 PM, Mike & Becca Krzystyniak wrote: Sorry if this has been hashed out before. Re: [Elecraft] OT: Shipping experiences
Not to mention, that USPS delivers on Saturday...at least for now. Our post office is extremely busy, but when I need to ship something, there are a couple of nearby post offices that seemingly no one knows about. Walk in, do business, and walk out quickly. We do use UPS to ship to the in-laws in Michigan, and go to the local UPS Store, but packing and shipping seem to have increased dramatically. Then, I hear reports of shipments from Elecraft that seem to be in limbo in both the FedEx and UPS systems. Not all of the delays can be blamed on weather. Seems that they underestimated the holiday volume; something that USPS has dealt with for years and seems to be gaining the upper hand on. I think, when my number comes up for shipment of the KXPA100 + ATU, I'll switch from UPS to USPS, although I've not had a shipment take longer than two business days from Elecraft. Living in California helps, but I get to pay sales tax. No problems to date with either UPS or FedEx as far as damage, or delivery after the projected delivery date of any shipments. One thing that does anger me, is that some shippers use this thing called "SmartPost," in which the item travels via normal UPS and FedEx channels until they reach the local area, then are turned over to USPS for delivery. This can take another 2-3 business days to reach my doorstep. Of course, I've been given free shipping, so I guess I can't complain. How this saves UPS or FedEx any money is beyond my comprehension. The XYL ordered a KX3 case, modified to hold the KXPA100 and Fred's smaller manual, at Visalia. I'm sure that we didn't stiff Rose. I've bought covers for my K1, K2, K3 and KX3 from Rose, as well as the aforementioned carrying case for the KX3 and one for the K2, so hopefully I'm innocent. If not, please let me know and I'll make it right. 73 de Jim - AD6CW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
