[Elecraft] [K2] Assembly question
I'm assembling K2 #7193 for a friend. L5 is specified as a 33 uH RF choke (ORG-ORG-BLK). The closest RFC I can find in the kit looks to me like BRN-BRN-BLK. No RFC in the parts list is specified as BRN-BRN-BLK. So the one I have found must actually be ORG-ORG-BLK, right? Randy, I can't tell from here unless you send a color photo. May I suggest you ask a female friend to look at it. The color perception of females is generally better than that of males. [Elecraft] KX3: Difficulty performing I.F. image (16 kHz) nulling
I am attempting to perform the opposite sideband and I.F. image nulling procedure on my KX3, per the app note (rev A8). I had no trouble performing the opposite-sideband nulling steps, but have run into a problem in the I.F. image (16 kHz) nulling procedure on page 5. Step 7(a) on page 5 states that you should hear a strong signal. This contradicts step 14 on page 2, which states Note: If you are preparing to null the RX SHFT=8.0 I.F. image, you may not hear any signal at this time since the VFO is offset from the signal source by 16 kHz. In fact, I am *not* hearing any signal. Is it safe to assume that step 7(a) on page 5 is incorrect, and that I can safely proceed without hearing any signal? 73, Mark AI4BJ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] P3 Beta software Bug?
Hi Alan, I think you should go a bit deeper and read the data sub mode and the DSP bandwidth and have the transmit cursor agree more closely to how the operator is listening to signals. When I'm operating split in RTTY the last thing I want to see is a 2.7KHz wide red cursor cluttering up the screen. If you can't do this then there could be a menu option to adjust the red cursor width. 73, Mike K2MK Alan Bloom wrote One change in the beta firmware is to make the width of the transmit cursor in Data A mode equal to 2.7 kHz. The reason is that in Data A mode there is no way for the firmware to know what the actual bandwidth is - it can be whatever is coming out the PC's sound card. So rather than assume narrow-FSK as in the old firmware, the new firmware makes the cursor width equal to the SSB bandwidth. Re: [Elecraft] KX3: Difficulty performing I.F. image (16 kHz) nulling
Mark, Step 7(a) on page 5 is correct. Step 14 on page 2 is also correct. Page 2 refers to having the signal source and the KX3 set to the same frequency. Page 5 requires that the signal source be set 16 kHz lower than the KX3 signal - you will be tuned to the opposite sideband, so the signal may be weak. Increase the level from the signal source or increase the preamp gain. If you cannot hear the opposite sideband signal, it may already have an optimum setting. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/26/2014 8:42 AM, Mark Volstad wrote: I am attempting to perform the opposite sideband and I.F. image nulling procedure on my KX3, per the app note (rev A8). Another problem is that the paint colors are actually variable. I can go out to my resistor stash, and find 'orange' bands that range all the way to brown. This isn't my color vision causing a problem. It could be aging of the paints they use, a lack of standardization of color, etc. And look at a resistor that's been overheated for a long time. Red goes to brown, orange goes to brown, green goes to brown, etc. The ohmmeter generally doesn't get confused by color differences, but I guess that doesn't help for inductors. 73, George T Daughters, K6GT CU in the California QSO Party (CQP) October 4-5, 2014 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

I'm a little color blind, but haven't had any trouble with any other components... I'd say show it to a woman except that can lead to, Sort of a light salmon, and the second one is more of a peach ... :-) I don't have any color vision at all and my wife has now figured out that if I show her a part and ask for the colors, I'm asking for pre-school color names, not the names on her make-up. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2014 Cal QSO Party 4-5 Oct 2014 - www.cqp.org __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to phys...@mac.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, After a week of cold wet weather we have another day of gloom and downpour. However, the dry season is only a few months away. I may see more of the sun by late May. With all of this rain late in the season the trees should do well and not be in too much danger of fire this summer. Propagation, on the other hand, has been poor to abysmal this week. I could hear folks but they could never hear me. I checked to see if my antennas were still up more than once. The sun has been acting up though and maybe afterward it will cause the ionosphere to be more highly charged. Who can tell? What I do know is the grouse are holding much tighter to cover with the cold and wet weather and when they do flush it can be quite a test of the adrenal glands. I was reaching under a cedar tree for some firewood when he (or she) flushed and knocked off my cap. I think they are testing me. Please join us tomorrow. 14050 kHz at 2200z Sunday (3 PM PDT Sunday) 7045 kHz at 0100z Monday (6 PM PDT Sunday) 73, Kevin.
