Maybe it's about the K2. There's a nice sheet out there explaining all of the knobs..there is also the "Nifty Accessories" booklet which is very handy -- and it's laminated for use during Field Day. Re: [Elecraft] Knob covers
I found one of the knob covers at Dayton (it always amazes me what's in the flea market there!). The ring fits over the K3 knob easily. It has a rubber ridge on the inside of the ring that conforms to the Ten-Tec knobs, but tends to stick up a bit on the K3's knob. It's not a perfect, seamless fit, and there is a small gap between the edge of the rubber ring and the knob on the K3 (very minor). It does work and feels nice, so if you like a softer grippier feel, it's worth a try until Elecraft decides to offer one tailored to fit the K3 (hint, hint). Re: [Elecraft] Knob shaft and pot issues
The four small controls are digital encoders - not pots. they have some play because they are also pushbutton type switches. The encoders have the "click" built in to allow the operator to "fine tune" the digital steps. The $20,000 Agilent test equipment we use at work have the same "pots". My unit had a broken L18 coil lead on the KBPF3 board which I re-soldered. The Mic ckt board (front panel)needed a mod. I have plenty of hardware left over, probably because each extra option I ordered came with extras. I like this radio better than any I have owned so far (licensed in 1960). I hope you can get the things resolved that are bugging you - it seems that the company is working hard to please. This is my first Elecraft product purchase. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Knob-shaft-and-pot-issues-tp17066356p17071522.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The gritty-ness is not a problem...you are actually feeling the detents in the encoder. These are encoders and not pots. I had never noticed the slight side to side movement of the shafts. I thought they were sharp at first too. I tune either with my left thumb or with my right forefinger. I pitched a baseball so much as a teenager my forefinger is curved. Helped me throw a wicked slider in my day but now it is just bent. This has helped my K2's tuning knob gain a patina and lose its sharp edges. I've thought of the broccoli bands but never quite gotten around to it. I eat enough of my cruciform veggies but have grown to like my K2 the way it is ;) 73, Kevin. (Net Op Without a Clue) P.S.
