RE: W2k Sp3 is out
Just be careful if you are running Scanmail for Exchange 2000 on the machine. I had a problem where the IIS admin service was terminating continually in a loop after apply sp3. The only way to stop it was to stop the ScanMail services. Once I upgraded Scanmail to the version they have off the web, all is well now. Or at least for now. Just a quick heads up. Outlook 2000/Exchange 2000 performance problems.
Aloha, We have just installed an Exchange 2K server. We are using Outlook 2K and Windows 2K. We are not using Exchange for email at this time (Lng story - please no flames - our managers want shared contacts/calendars right away and want to wait to convert our email - gr). We use Outlook to read our 'Internet email' off of our UNIX Post.Office server. The problem is that Outlook issues the 'retrieve' to POP3 and immediately gets the email, it then issues the 'delete' to remove the mail from the server. THEN Outlook waits at least 5 to 10 seconds to issue the next 'retrieve' command (we sniffed the POP3 server). This is generally no big deal except that when a user exits Outlook to go on vacation or home or whatever, and queues up a large number of emails, it takes a very long time to completely read all their mail. I suggested to wait until we go to Exchange email but the bosses want it fixed now. I could not find anything in the FAQ, KDB, etc that matched the problem. There is one question that talks about TCP/IP issues but that has been ruled out here. Any ideas - and I already know that we should be on Exchange mail but that is not an option yet. Thanks in advance, Don Couch PS - another oddity - I sent this message three different times before this send. All three times I told it to go plain text - all three times it was rejected by the list as being stylized text or HTML - I bcc'd it to a co-worker and it showed up as HTML - what gives? I sent the other three when my Outlook settings were set to out all received mail in the 'mailbox'. I sent this message with the settings set to receive mail into the 'personal folder'. RE: Exchange 2000 question
Thanks for the reply tom, your idea, even though I thought I had already done, forced me to review my work again and I realized I had overlooked something that my documentation told me I didn't need to worry about. I had been adjusting the high priority recipient policy, but ignoring the default policy. Once I made this change to the default and restarted the services, all is well now. Exchange 2000 question
I have migrated from Exchange 5.5 to exchange 2000 sp3. Our old domain appliedinference.com is still showing up in our new exchange system, despite my best efforts to migrate to a clean system using our new company name. When I look in the M drive the folder there is named appliedinference.com, and so is the local delivery queue in the SMTP virtual server. How can I change these to read our new company name? These are what I believe are causing some of our OWA quirkiness. thanks Anthony L. Sollars System/Network Administrator Sightward, Inc. Ok, I can telnet to their server. That just shows connectivity, right? RE: Error sending Emails to public folders
Sounds like permissions on the folder and it would depend on if the email in question is from internal or external sender. For an external sender to be able to send to a public folder the anonymous account must have contributor rights to the public folder. For internal use either the default or a group that the user is a member of needs to be a contributor Dave Cook Exchange Administrator Kutak Rock, LLP 402-231-8352 [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Tony Perkins [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 11:01 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Error sending Emails to public folders Dear All, I have the following errors when trying to send an Email to a Public folder on Exchange 2000. RE: Exchange.NET anyone ?
Don't want to sound like an advertisement, but the Messageware product worked right out of the box. Set up on the IIS server. Presents the GAL and your personal contacts, for slow-witted folks (like me) who can't remember other people's e-mail addresses. The spell check is fine, and you can set rules for it to automatically check the spelling before a message leaves. With the onboard thesaurus, I'm looking to expand my vocabulary, and to become less obstentatiously obsequious, whatever that means. Switched to Native, now can't send to some sites(MSN)
Ex2k sp2 on Win2k native mode - one exchange server I just removed my last 5.5 server. In its final days it was only sending out mail with the IMC. Now that I removed the 5.5 and the IMC my mail is going out via the Default SMTP virtual server with no Routing Group/connectors. I'm having trouble sending to some sites now that were not a problem a week ago, MSN being one of them. The NDR error is 5.5.0. RE: Procedure to restore Exchange 5.5 from online backup
1) Assuming the test box is on a separate network you can use the same server name, or install on the same network with a differently named machine - just dont join the existing site--- the key is that the org and site name are identical to the production org and site name.. You can not however restore the directory if the machine name is different, only the IS.If your goal is too simply recover a single mailbox, this is the easiest way to accomplish that. IP is irrelevant. 2) You do have to use the /R switch - not really necessary. 3) Again, /R not required. 4) Yup. Rebooting is never required. 5) Should be running the Performance Optimizer here. Again, the DR paper is the best resource. -Original Message- From: Mike Koch [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 11:39 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Procedure to restore Exchange 5.5 from online backup I've had consistent success with the following procedure. Test server is in a test domain, not production. (1) Build server - same Name, same IP address, same OS, same Sp level as production server. (2) Install Exchange with "setup /R" - specify new site with same Org and Site names as production. Do not reboot. (3) Install SP4 with "Update /R". Do not reboot. (4) Install any post-SP4 hotfixes that the production box already has installed. Do not reboot. (5) Start up the System Attendant service. (6) Restore the DS and IS databases with Backup Exec, uncheck "no loss restore" on the Exchange tab When the restore completes... (7) Start the Directory service - wait until it's fully up and running. (8) Start the Information Store service - wait, it may take a while to start. You may even get an error if it takes too long, but keep waiting until it starts. (9) Start the MTA service. RE: Procedure to restore Exchange 5.5 from online backup
I've had consistent success with the following procedure. (10) Start the Event service (11) Start the Internet Mail service - this step I've had some trouble with, usually requiring me to delete and recreate the IMS. I keep a detailed log of all IMS settings. Hope that helps. RP: Exchange 2000 not receiving mail.
Reposting with updates. Single windows 2000 AS running exchange 2000 (eval copy to rule out a problem with my normal CD). DNS is running fine. Ran netIQ's ADcheck and found no problems. Users have mailboxes created. All services are running. Created an smtp connector that is at the moment wide open. (All connections and relays set to All except list)(Server is not conencted to the internet) The queue in the default smtpvs have a folder icon with an ! with "Enumerate messages from the queue node" I can telnet to port 25. I sent an e-mail to a local user while telnetted in. Checked the tracking and found listed under the sender: SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue SMTP: Message Submitted to categorizor SMTP: Message Sent to Badmail And under the recipient: First 3 lines the same. On the last line SMTP: Non-Deliverable Report (NDR) Generated. Under Monitoring and Status, the SMTP connector and the server both show available. Dlivery Options are set to always run with all allowed priorities and types and no size limits. The address space on the connector is set up with the same domain as I am using for AD. Also, I am using the default ports for smtp and pop3. The default recipient policy has the correct smtp address. >From here I really do not know what to check. I have set up 5.5 before and it worked right out of the gate on the internal network. I really do not know what I am missing. As of right now the domain I am testing on consists on only one computer, the DC that is running DNS and exchange. I know that there is either something that I am not doing that needs to be done. I have done this twice now. First time I created an acct to install exchange with all the privies. Then created exch admin group etc etc etc... ran forestprep and domainprep. This time I just installed as admin without the preps as the book I got last night said could be done. (Mastering Exchange 2000 by Barry Gerber) >From everything I have seen, this should just work. Step 0. Sacrifice goat. Step 1. Back up everything. Step 2. Determine what 'taken out' really means. Step 3. Figure out if you can fix it by yourself. Step 4. If not, figure out if you can fix it with the help of PSS. Step 5. If not, look for a good person to subcontract to. > -Original Message- > From: Jason Kane [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 5:23 AM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: Yaha Virus has taken out mail system > > I have been approached by a company who's Exchange 2000 system has been > taken out by a virus and they are in a complete mess. > > Could anyone give me some advice as to the steps that should be taken to > try and get these guys back on line? > > Cheers, Jason > > > > _ > List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm > Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp > To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Procedure to restore Exchange 5.5 from online backup
Hello All -- Does anyone have a procedure to restore Exchange from an online backup(Veritas Backup Exec). I would like to restore my live server to a test server. I have found procedures for restoring from offline backup, but not for restoring from an online backup. Thanks in advance - Brian (I am running NT4 sp6a, Exchange 5.5 sp4) _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Copying or merging a user's mailbox with another
Hi, I am running Exchange 2000 SP2. I need a way of copying the contents of one user's mailbox to another, on the same server. Preferably, specifying a folder in the destination mailbox for the old contents. The deal is, when people leave the company, their manager wants their old email. The admins want to delete the user id and mailbox for obvious reasons. We would like to do this on the server as opposed to on the client with pst files... Any ideas? RE: Exchange.NET anyone ?
Thought it was worth adding a few notes on the Plus Pack from Messageware. Our track record to date is support of the SP's on the same day as general release from Microsoft. SP3 was fully supported when released - partnering and market share has it privileges. Mark PS. We are currently recommending an upgrade to Plus Pack V4.2 which includes OWA attachment blocking based on file extensions and MAILTO handling for WWW links. -Original Message- From: Siegfried Weber [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Mon 7/29/2002 7:57 PM To: Exchange Discussions Cc: Subject: RE: Exchange.NET anyone ? Uhm, well. Don't get me wrong on this, ok? But did you install Exchange 2000 SP3 on a server running PlusPack from Messageware? It's a great product but what I wanted to point out is: the more third party SW you have installed the more are you bound to wait until a new SP of the core product will work with it. It took a couple of days until I got the required registry fix to run Sybari Antigen 6.5 with Exchange 2000 SP3 and with the very deep (and in some parts maybe unsupported) integration Messageware's PlusPack does I expect you will stay on SP2 for quite some time. It's the trade off running such stuff. I personally would appreciate such features in a forthcoming version of Exchange Server itself. RE: Importing a GAL
Change Obj-Class column to reflect Remote in every row. You may want to remove some other unnecessary other columns as well. -Original Message- From: Paul Patti [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, July 29, 2002 4:35 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Importing a GAL Hi Everyone, My company was acquired by a larger corp. some time back but is basically run like an individual company. We get our e-mail forwarded from corp.com to our MS Exchange Server 5.5, abc.com. I think they forward us as custom recipients. The problem is they can see us in their GAL but we can't see them in our's. What I want to do is import their GAL so my user's can just pick someones name out of the list, instead of trying to remember how to spell their name. I got them to export their GAL in a CSV file and send it to me but when I imported it, I got errors for every name in the list. Was I suppose to edit their list? Any suggestions? It looked too easy. I should of known it couldn't be that easy! _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
