Re: Spam Clogging the IMC Queue -- Feigning Open Relay
Let me answer my own question. Those spammers were using authentication to logon to SMTP server of our Exchange. Once we saw what user account was being used and disabled it, problem went away. Re: Spam Clogging the IMC Queue -- Feigning Open Relay
Hi I had a similar problem as we have a lot of mobile users. Unfortunately the authentication seemed temperamental depending on which ISP you were using, so forced everybody to use the VPN and restricted routing to internal IP's only. I think that did the trick, but I wouldn't be surprised if the spammers find a way around it. OWA (E2k) issue with messages appearing to some systems as having attachments.
Ok it seems that when I reply to many messages from mailing lists via OWA the replied message seems to have an attachment (and some new postings also) . At first we noticed that all messages were using UTF-8 so found the setting to change it from that to our regional setting. That didn't solve the problem. I've tried to search the archive to no luck also searched the support.microsoft.com site. Config is W2k server with latest sp(4) and hotfixes, E2k with sp3, with post sp3 rollup and latest security patches applied. Anybody have any ideas? I have my profile set to send all my e-mails as text only which as you know OWA doesn't pay attention to. Doesn't seem to make a differance which version IE we use. tried from IE 5.0 sp4 up to latest IE 6.0 sp1 + rollup _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: default recipient policy issue
That's what the default recipient policy does and you probably should not mess with it. Why do these SMTP and X.400 addresses bother you so much? Also if you really, really don't want you contacts to be stamped with the policy's e-mail addresses, go to each contact's properties, click on the E-mail addresses tab and then un-check the option that applies the policy settings. Now, how are you routing mail to the sister companies? Does mail from the Internet to the sister companies arrive first to your Exchange environment (i.e. do the sister companies' MX records point to your Exchange server?) If that is the case, then you want to have the e-mail addresses created by the default policy. RE: Off-topic changing SMTP port on Exchange for spam filtering.
I was just taking a look at Xwall and it does in fact look pretty good. Questions: What operating system are you running it on? Does it need a separate SMTP server to be running or does it provide its own? If it needs another, what do you suggest? We have used Xwall for about a year. It is very good. It is one guy I think. He is very responsive. It seems like when you ask if something can be done, it gets put in the next release ... I think he is Austrian , so be a little careful with his choice of good/bad english words ... We use Bayesian filtering on it. I would suggest that you first get your other filters in place and are happy with them before you start collecting stats to start your bayesian filtering. Then, once it is working, review the emails and the stats (in .csv files) and set your level a touch higher than what you think it should be ... You can also edit the NDR's ... Does virus scanning ... Etc, etc, etc, you name it ... I also took the .csv's and the collected the blocked messages and made an .asp site for my users, so that they could log in through a web page and unblock email addresses (it also does unique whitelists for individual users ...) For the price, it is great ... Probably be bought out soon ... mike -Original Message- From: Alverson, Tom [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2003 9:53 AM To: Exchange Discussions Cc: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: Off-topic changing SMTP port on Exchange for spam filtering. Adding items from a Public Folder Calendar to Personal Calendar
I have been looking around SlipStick for a solution to add items from a Public Folder Calendar to a Personal Calendar automatically but couldn't find anything simple (my users are a little non-technical). I have a public folder calendar where staff post deadlines and upcoming events related to the company. Some staff who are concerned with these events would like to be able to add all these items automatically to their personal calendar. Is this possible ? RE: Move E2K servers between AD containers?
Brent, Computers isn't a container in AD - it's a folder and therefore can't have a policy applied to it. The only policy that will apply to Computers is the default domain policy so it doesn't matter where you move your Exchange server the default domain policy will still be applied unless you block policy inheritance on the OU you put the Exchange servers into, but then you must re-apply all the required policy objects on the new OU. Yes you can move servers to any OU you like but you must make sure the right policies are being applied. Free/Busy issue removing last 5.5 server in the site
Hi Everyone, I have one 5.5 server, which also happens to be the first server in the site, that I would like to remove. I have two other Exchange 2000 servers in the site. I followed the instuctions and made sure there was a replica of the Free/Busy folder (among others) on one of the Exchange 2000 servers. When I shut down all of the services on the old 5.5 server for a test, I start to see errors on the server without the replica. Event ID 8207 Souce MSExchangeFBPublish. It inidicated it had a problem getting the data from the old 5.5 server. I decided to replicate the folder to that server as well (however, I think that you should only have one version of the folder in a site - is this correct?). I let it replicate over the weekend, and then this morning I tried it again. I am seeing the same error, but this time it indicates it is having a problem with the public store on itself. If I turn the services on the old server back on, the error goes away. At no point have I had any reported client issues when the error is logged. I looked at technet article 824282, but I don't think it applies, as the problem goes away when the orignal server is on. I think I have some sort of replication issue, but I am not sure what it is. Checking the public folder on the Exchange 2000 server, it says the Schedule+ Free Busy folder has replicated. Has anyone else seen this? If anyone has a pointer for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! HELP E2k and E2k3
Hi I have a single Exchange 2000 server that used the default SMTP VS to deliver and pick up internet mail from a smart host. Which worked fine. I wanted to upgrade to E2k3, so installed a new second server and installed E2k3 on this. Install worked fine. I moved a test user to the new server. This test user is able to send mail messages out but is unable to recieve messages from the Internet. The sender gets a NDR saying undiliverable because of a mail loop , Status: 4.4.6. I also noticed that messages between the two servers is being sent out to the smart host by the first E2k server and keeps looping. Do I have to configure the default SMTP VS on the second E2k3 server? OR do I remove the smart host settings from the 1st server and configure a SMTP Connector to send and receive Internet mail from the smart host.? Help Please. EX5.5: can't get rid of TURFTABLE??
I noticed a message in the turf directory that was probably legitimate (from american airlines) and looked at my turftable entries to see why it was rejected. Sure enough, I had aa.com in there so I deleted it and restarted the IMC (putting the offending message back into the inbound dir while the IMC was stoppted). It turf'ed it again? I thought maybe the turftable on our other server (first server in org, but all mailboxes moved off of it) so I removed it there and restarted both IMC's. It got turf'ed again... I then removed ALL entries from the turftable of both server and restarted both IMC's. Still gets turf'ed. What is going on here? Is there another service I need to stop and start? I don't want to reboot right now, but can later if necessary. RE: Free/Busy issue removing last 5.5 server in the site

Ed Crowley MCSE+Internet MVP Freelance E-Mail Philosopher Protecting the world from PSTs and Bricked Backups!T -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, November 03, 2003 11:14 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Free/Busy issue removing last 5.5 server in the site Hi Everyone, I have one 5.5 server, which also happens to be the first server in the site, that I would like to remove. Thanks! RE: Exchange Limits
There are many reasons to enforce size limits in an organization. Many reasons center around storage and backup considerations. Performance can be hampered the larger mailboxes are, too. One very important yet frequently overlooked issue is SECURITY. Without size limitations, and depending on other factors, there are certain DDoS attacks that can result in rendering a whole Exchange Information Store inaccessible. One approach you might want to consider is educating your users about the use of Personal Folders. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Doug Schaible Posted At: 03 November 2003 14:23 Posted To: Swynk Exchange (30 days) Conversation: Exchange Limits Subject: Exchange Limits Exchange 2000 SP3 Any suggestions on setting size limits on both the SMTP virtual server and on idividual mailboxes?
