TNEF, Outlook forms attachments

2002-01-28 Thread Paul Owen

Exchange 5.5 - multiple organisations
I've set up some Outlook forms for our HR dept. so people can send holiday
requests and suchlike in a standard format. To make the forms work, I have
to set Exchange to send in RTF format - otherwise the form doesn't get to
the recipient.
However, setting Exchange to behave this way stops attachments getting to
external recipients who are using Outlook Express or other Internet mail
clients.
Anyone know a way to resolve this?

Be aware that this morning you will likely find a copy of this new mass
mailer in your mail systems. This is a pure social engineering attack, it
contains an attachment named as a URL with a .com extension. Since .com is
also an application, it will be run as such if its double-clicked on. Check
with your AV company for updates and/or filtering criteria. If you can, be
sure you have attachment filtering enabled at your mail gateway. Outlook
Email Security Update, and Outlook 2002, both catch this attachment and
prevent it from being available for the user to click on.

Hello Everyone,

Hopefully your Monday is going
better than mine.

I have an issue with my OWA server.
It would appear that I have run out of disk space and thus causes the server
crash. Big surprise huh? Anyway, my question is this, does the OWA server have
to have room for replication between itself and the main Exchange server? Do I
have to have the same amount of disk space on both servers? Or can I find a way just to pull the info
from the main server without any replication?

Would it work if the ISP's mail server was Exchange? Or does it matter?

IMS Outbound Queue

2002-01-28 Thread Chris Thelen

I am running Exchange 5.5 SP4 with Trend Micro Scan. I frequently have
messages stack up in my IMS outbound queue. It seems like it is only
specific domains that I have trouble with, but when they send me something
inbound it delivers like a snap. When I go to the queue and check the
message, it say's that there was a network error and couldn't resolve the
domain name. I then click retry and then 90% of the time it will send it.
I use my ISP's DNS servers. I am baffled. Any idea's what it could be?

FW: Exmerge for Exchange 5.5 2000

I know there is a version of Exmerge specifically for Exchange 2000, it
is on the installation CD. I am trying to figure out what issues I may
run into when doing a Exmerge export from Exchange 5.5 and then
importing back into a Exchange 2000 server. I have seen posts about the
the Distinguished name Server name having to be the same, what if the
server name is different? Since I dont have a spare server or box lying
around to do a test run with I can't see what problems may arise. The
last thing I want to do is export all the mailboxes, wipe rebuild the
server, and then have issues trying to restore mailboxes with Exmerge.

into the
mailboxes. I am trying to find beforehand if I will run into any
issues
using Exmerge from a 5.5 box to a 2K box? The mailboxes will all
have the
same names as the previous mailboxes so it looks like I wont
have a problem.
i dont have an extra box to run a test run so I need to find out
beforehand
what issues I may run into. Any ideas what could possibly go
wrong and how I
can avoid them. I plan to move all Public Folder data to a
mailbox
beforehand since Exmerge cant do anything for Public Folders.
TIA!!

Resource mailboxes with 2000

2002-01-28 Thread Senter, John M
Title: Resource mailboxes with 2000

We are in the process of starting our 2000 migration investigation. One thing that keeps coming up is that we will have to lose all of the resource mailboxes that we have tied to a user or group. For those of you that have already undergone this migration, what did you do with the resource mailboxes?

We use the Public Folders for all internal activity, but I have not been able to get external e-mail to come into a public folder, I keep getting errors about the system not having permissions to access the folder. We turned off Anonymous access years ago, but I tried turning it on during this test but still received the errors. Internal users could send to the folders with no problems.

Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

We
simply set up a windows 2000 user account for each resource mailbox and gave it
limited domain access. As for the public folders, make sure that default

We are in the process of starting our 2000
migration investigation. One thing that keeps coming up is that we will
have to lose all of the resource mailboxes that we have tied to a user or
group. For those of you that have already undergone this migration, what
did you do with the resource mailboxes?
We use the Public Folders for all internal
activity, but I have not been able to get external e-mail to come into a
public folder, I keep getting errors about the system not having permissions
to access the folder. We turned off Anonymous access years ago, but I
tried turning it on during this test but still received the errors.
Internal users could send to the folders with no problems.
Any suggestions on this would be greatly
  appreciated.

* New Powerful Exchange Message Store Monitor

2002-01-28 Thread stus

[THIS IS A COMMERCIAL MESSAGE FROM YOUR LIST SPONSOR: SUNBELT SOFTWARE]

 * New Powerful Exchange Message Store Monitor

A lot of companies have jumped on the new CAMEO Recon to monitor
their Exchange Information Store. Because of the sensitive nature
of e-mail and corporate security, many of these customers do not
wish to have their names published, so we're talking in general
here. However, the product has a lot of customers in many different
corporate, educational, government and military structures.

The functions the software performs for each company can differ
based on the individual needs of each organization. For example:
Companies use CAMEO Recon to monitor and delete unwanted e-mails
and attachment files from users mailboxes and sub-folders. This
is especially useful if a company is hit with a virus that invades
the mail system.

Antivirus software can prevent viruses from spreading however,
antivirus fixes are not always immediately available to an
organization and by the time that most users were alerted to
the threat, the damage had been done. Virus scanning should be
mandatory in any organization, but it's not enough. We have an
Independent School District that used the product when they
were hit with the 'Goner' and 'BadTrans' viruses. They used
CAMEO Recon to delete the email message that was distributed
to the users to prevent the virus from any continual spreading.

Other companies are using the product to monitor and scan for
specific content employees have sent or received in e-mail
messages. This is beneficial for many corporations that may
be required go back into their Exchange Information Store to
research content that may be useful for legal situations.

More often in the headlines today it is revealed that a certain
corporation is in a lawsuit over something that can be traced
through e-mail. Even if a company is utilizing filtering
software for real-time monitoring, the content they are looking
for now may not be what was being monitored for at the time
the original e-mail was sent as a result, employers must try
to go back and research the store.

Whether it is leaked corporate secrets or evidence for a
harassment claim, CAMEO Recon can find messages buried in
any part of an e-mail system-even in folders created by the
user. Check it out over here:

No.

All OWA needs is IIS properly configured and OWA itself. It does not need a
full install of exchange to function - just connectivity to exchange - it
uses NetBIOS names so make sure your WINS is good or put a hosts file. If
your current server is running out of room I bet a dozen Krispy Kremes that
it is the IIS log files getting unruly.

 Hello Everyone,

Hopefully your Monday is going better than mine.

I have an issue with my OWA server. It would appear that I
have run out of disk space and thus causes the server crash.
Big surprise huh? Anyway, my question is this, does the OWA
server have to have room for replication between itself and
the main Exchange server? Do I have to have the same amount
of disk space on both servers? Or can I find a way just to
pull the info from the main server without any replication?

 TIA

RE: Replication

2002-01-28 Thread Rick Ward - HQ
Title: RE: Replication

Dennis is 100% correct and because of the way Exchange engrains itself into NT, you are better off wiping the server and starting over. Just select the OWA portion when Exchange setup runs. Make sure it finds the IIS directory location. Recommend D$ as default path and not C$ with all the tmp files that are constantly written. Also don't forget that all important SP for Exchange/NT at the end. As a rule, most folks do NT's SP last... My view is slightly skewed and I always install the most current SP last be it NOS, or MS Application.

My .02 cents

I have 2 servers with Exchange setup. One is my OWA server, W2K sp2, Exchange is fully loaded. (Which I think is where I messed up) My Second server is my Real Exchange server on NT4 sp6.

What I'm trying to determine is if I screwed up when I put loaded the full version of Exchange on what I had wanted as my OWA server.

office email at home problems

2002-01-28 Thread Benedict, Hope

On a home computer, an employee uses Outlook to access his office email. He
is successful in receiving all email. However when he tries to use the
business account to respond or send a new message to someone outside the
company, he gets the error message no transport available. What needs to
be changed and where? His computer? Office email server? This was
possible last year and suddenly became unusable. He can respond to or email
staff with no problem.

RE: office email at home problems

2002-01-28 Thread Darrin J. Carter

This has to do with the SMTP server that the user is try to connecting
to. You normally cannot send mail through an SMTP server that is not on
your network. Is your user connected to the Internet and then
retrieving from your POP server over the net?

Thanks,
