RE: 5.5 upgrade to Enterprise
Yes. Just done that here, in fact. Well, we were planning to do our Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 migration this year anyway, we wanted to beat the July 31 deadline, so we bought the licences. Just waiting for my media kit now. RE: 5.5 upgrade to Enterprise
You can only *licence* E2K. If you have the relevant E2K licence, you can install 5.5 from the media which will be available from your friendly reseller. IIRC, the 5.5 CD is included with E2K. GalMod Question
Hi All, I have ran into an issue with galmod, Exchange Server 2000 and AD. Under exchange server 5.5 I am able to edit the permissions on each field that is displayed on the users mailbox properties when viewed from the GAL. By default (using galmod) users can change the following fields in their own mailbox: Address, City, Business Phone Number, State, Fax, Home Phone Number, Mobile Phone Number, Notes, Office, Pager, Zip Code This default behaviour works perfectly in both 5.5 and e2k. The problem is that users can't change the following properties (by default) using galmod: Assistant, Company, Country, Department, Title In exchange 5.5 admins can change permissions for these fields to allow users to make changes via the galmod utility. (reference microsoft Q article Q186950 for instructions as to how to accomplish this with Exchange 5.5) For instance I wanted my users to be able to make changes to the Assistant, Department, and Title fields. In Exchange 5.5 admins can make changes to the schema to grant the necessary permissions and this works without problem. Unfortunately this procedure doesn't work in Exchange 2000. I have tried to find these attributes in AD but haven't had any luck. Anyone out there that can lend me some much needed additional brain power on this I would be most gratefuLL. ;) Thanks and have a good day, Chris. New Exchange 2000 install replacing old Questions....
Hello all, i've had a test exchange 2000 server running live in my network for 6 months now. it was set up for 7 people to play with and evaluate and is just running on a PIII workstation. everything has worked out great and we are now putting in a full-flege install of exchange 2000. i need to remove the test exchange from our network and active directory and this is where my question comes in. after i get done uninstalling our current test exchange server, do i need to run /forestprep and /domainprep before i install the new exchange server? i dont believe i have to becasue the schema and AD is prepared from the 12st instance of exchange. do i just need to run SETUP.EXE for the new server? just wanted to throw that at you before i do it. the new install is going to have totally new server name and new users. thanks for your insights! RE: Unwanted server ...
/Bias Plug Also, I build my labs in VMWare workstation so they stay clean, you can nicely run 4 virtual servers live on one box with or without external network connectivity. Then, if the other members need an AD server to mess with, you can copy the folder yours is in and let them destroy the virtual server copy ... leaving yours intact. /bias plug Doesn't answer your question, but it may prevent it after the rebuild and yes you can build VMWare servers in the live network and snap them out to test ... 30 day eval, best $300 I have spent on the lab. Yes, everyone will be forced to authenticate manually. If you are not passing through as it should now, there must be something about your credentials that is not matching against a mailbox or is not recognized by the Exchange server. Jesse Rink [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:275604@exchangelist... Doing this will force everyone to enter in a username and password instead of it being passed through, right? Any idea why MY username and password does not pass thru would my coworkers do? Very strange.. I suppose I can just turn it off like you mentioned. How about the authentication box that only shows 2 lines instead of 3... Any idea what's going on wiht that? THanks Disable integrated windows authentication from that virtual directory. Only use plain text. Jesse Rink [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:275585@exchangelist... Trying to make sense of this... My newly built Exchange 2000 box is running OWA. From the inside network, when I go to the OWA page (outlook.mycompany.com) I get prompted for a username, password, and domain box. I have IE5 on NT4. From the inside network, when my coworker goes to the OWA page (outlook.mycompany.com) he does not get prompted for a username, password, and domain box. It goes right into his mailbox without having to enter in credentials. He has IE5 with NT4. I had another user access the OWA page from home and they get prompted for the username, password, and domain. They used IE6. Anohter user accessed the OWA page from home, and they only got prompted for a username and password, NO domain. This person was not able to logon even though they supposedly used the domain\username appropriately. What's the deal with the 2 box logon versus the 3 box logon? And why do some PCs here need to authenticate and others go rihgt in? It's weird. Thanks List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

FW: Unwanted server ...
Never mind - I found it (All tasks/Remove Server in the ESM - duh ...). We're back in business for our testing. Sorry to waste the bandwidth. Sue -Original Message- From: Moss, Sue Sent: Thursday, July 18, 2002 11:43 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject:Unwanted server ... Hello, My first post here - hope I don't break any rules. We have a lab setup that we're testing an Exchange 2000 upgrade in - others are also using this lab, so if we have a machine one day, it could be gone the next. That happened to us mid-testing adding a new server to the organization and moving mailboxes to it. Now we can't get rid of the bogus server because some mailboxes had been moved to it. Anyone know of a way to forcibly remove a server from an organization? Do I just bite the bullet and rebuild from ground zero? I would stop and write a privacy policy and clearly define your goals before proceeding. We're currently doing the same thing with GALMOD on Exchange 5.5, and came up with the following: Dept. Managers and Above are required to input their Home #s and addresses (for Disaster Recovery). Line people can choose whether or not they want their Home information posted. Home information and full office information is only displayed on the Intranet. Public Internet users can only access Names and Office Numbers. (Most office numbers are to a receptionist not a direct line) All employees are required to update their information periodically. The login script fires a prompt every 30 days to have them update their info. Kodiak, again
Excerpt from Paul Thurott's Wininformant: Exchange 2000 will not run on Win.NET Server, he said. Win.NET Server will require Exchange 2003, which takes advantage of the many changes we made in Win.NET Server to Active Directory (AD). Goffe said that Exchange 2003 will also include a new Outlook Web Access (OWA) version, which has been popular with Exchange users, and features better performance. An Exchange 2003 beta will be available by the end of the year, he said. http://www.wininformant.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=25894 This sounds nasty to me (nothing new for MS), like you won't be able to upgrade your Exchange 2000 Server, to .Net Exchange 2003, instead you'll have to bring up another system from scratch with .Net Server Exchange 2003 migrate. Mailbox Restore - Deleted Item Retention
Illustrious Colleagues: I have a server (Exchange 5.5 SP4) configured with deleted item retention set to thirty days (Public and Private IS's.) One of my fellow administrators, in time of great stress, managed to delete a user's mailbox from within Exchange Administrator. Do any of you know of a way to restore this mailbox, without having to resort to backup tapes? I found a reference (MS: Q273887) about using LDAP to view deleted items within Exchange, but have not had success in restoring the mailbox with this method. Many thanks, Joe List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

Managers and Above are required to input their Home #s and addresses (for Disaster Recovery). Line people can choose whether or not they want their Home information posted. Home information and full office information is only displayed on the Intranet. Public Internet users can only access Names and Office Numbers. Profile has been removed and recreated several times with several different account with no success. I am out of ideas - anyone have one???
