OT (a little) Blackberry sync problem

2011-04-12 Thread Ralph Smith
Hi all,

I know just enough about Blackberries to have installed BESx and connect
the devices to it, so I am in search of some guidance. Sorry for the
long message.

The CEO of our organization is having problems with messages
synchronizing on her Blackberry.

What she sees is that some (not all) messages that show up in her
Outlook inbox never show up on her Blackberry. For messages that do
show up on her Blackberry, when they are showing as read on her BB,
sometimes they continue to show as unread in Outlook. Also messages she
has deleted on her BB don't always move to Deleted Items in Outlook.

Sometimes the opposite is also true - messages she has read and deleted
in Outlook continue to show as new unread messages on the BB.

While I was talking to her this morning I witnessed two messages from
the same internal Exchange user show up in Outlook, but only the second
one showed up on her BB.

I only have 4 BB users here, and none of the other three have reported
issues.

Her Blackberry is a Storm2 9550 on Verizon

BES Express 5.0.2.29 on Windows 2003 R2 SP2

Exchange 2003 SP2 on Windows 2003 SP2

What I've tried so far:

Made sure Outlook cached mode was off - it was.

Made sure she is leaving messages in her Outlook deleted items folder
for at least a day before permanently deleting - she was.

I had her do a Reconcile Now on her BB - no change.

I had her do a reset by removing the battery - no change.

On the BB went to Messages Options General Options and made sure
Hide filed email is set to Yes

Checked Messages Options Email Reconciliation settings:

Delete On = Mailbox and Handheld

Wireless Reconciliation = On

On Conflicts = Mailbox Wins

On the BESx server set Hard Deletes = true

Any tips on what else I can try to do to help her out?

Thanks,

Ralph

Ex2k10 SP1 schema update

2011-04-12 Thread David Liu
All, we are looking to update AD with Exchange 2k10 SP1 schema. We have
already performed the R2 schema update followed by the Ex2k7 SP2 schema
update so the rangeupper attribute of ms-exch-schema-version-pt is 14622
(same as Ex2k10 RTM) last year. Theres currently a mix of Ex2k3 and Ex2k7
servers in the Exch org.

Questions:
a. if we currently have Exchange 2k7 SP1 servers, before we extend the
Ex2k10 SP1 schema we will need to bring all fo them up to at least SP2 level
(SP3 is preferred but according to this article SP2 seems th minimum
requirement for coexistence, correct?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638158.aspx

b. Any adverse effect bringing the schema directly from 14622 to 14726
(EX2k10 SP1) without updating it to Ex2k7 SP3 first? Will this affect
existing Ex2k7 SP1 servers later on when they need to update Exchange 2k7 ?
I understand schema update updating Exchange versions are two separate
beasts but want to confirm.

Brian Desmond has summed it up well here, basically saying that unless all
Ex2k7/Ex2k3 servers are removed there wont be any problems adding new nodes
in.

RE: Ex2k10 SP1 schema update

2011-04-12 Thread Steven Alfano
From the information I know you will need to upgrade to SP2/3 eventually if
you wish co-existence with Exchange 2010. The schema change made into your
Forest/domain by running Exchange 2010 setup on a 64 bit DC may or may not
impact your current Exchange 2007 SP1 installation but why take the chance.
Be careful about Exchange SP upgrades in 2007 if you have high availability
(SCR CCR) database servers; there are very well documented procedures for
putting on SP's and you need to follow them if you wish to avoid data loss.

I have heard that it is advantageous to run 2007 SP3 when using Exchange 2010
but have yet to find out exactly why. If you are upgrading anyway I have found
SP3 to be stable in our environment. Please be sure to put on the latest rollup
and also run OS updates too.

RE: Ex2k10 SP1 schema update

2011-04-12 Thread Michael B. Smith
[a] You need 2007 sp2 or sp3 for coexistence.

[b] I would not update 2007 sp1 to 2010 sp1 without first upgrading exchange
2007 to sp2 or sp3. Will it work? I dunno. But it's not a documented upgrade
path, which would lead me to believe that it's a corner case. It may not be
supported at all.

If you install Exchange 2007 sp3, there is an additional schema update
involved, between Exchange 2010 RTM and Exchange 2010 SP1.

I don't disagree with what BDesmond says and he states that he's done it. I
can't state that I've done it in one step and it makes me nervous.

preferred but according to this article SP2 seems th minimum requirement for
coexistence, correct? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638158.aspx

b. Any adverse effect bringing the schema directly from 14622 to 14726 (EX2k10
SP1) without updating it to Ex2k7 SP3 first? Will this affect existing Ex2k7
SP1 servers later on when they need to update Exchange 2k7 ? I understand
schema update updating Exchange versions are two separate beasts but want to
confirm.

Brian Desmond has summed it up well here, basically saying that unless all
Ex2k7/Ex2k3 servers are removed there wont be any problems adding new nodes in.

 Just looking for someone who has done this.

TIA,

RE: Database growth.

2011-04-12 Thread Michael B. Smith
So... that makes it more complicated than a typical one-liner. Save the
following script into a file, say, mailbox-stats.ps1 and then pipe its output
to Export-CSV.

This is easily extensible to include more attributes/values.

-start mailbox-stats.ps1
function make-object()
{
   $obj =  | select Alias, DatabaseName, DeletedItemCount, DisplayName, `
   ItemCount, LastLogonTime, ProhibitSendQuota,
SizeInKB, `
   SizeInKBDeleted, StorageLimitStatus

   return $obj
}

$mailboxes = Get-Mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited

foreach( $mailbox in $mailboxes )
{

   $obj = make-object

   $obj.Alias = $mailbox.Alias
   $obj.ProhibitSendQuota = $mailbox.ProhibitSendQuota

   $stats = Get-MailboxStatistics $mailbox -EA 0
   if( !$? )
   {
  write-host Couldn't get statistics for $($obj.Alias)
   }
   else
   {
  $obj.DatabaseName   = $stats.DatabaseName
  $obj.DeletedItemCount   = $stats.DeletedItemCount
  $obj.DisplayName= $stats.DisplayName
  $obj.ItemCount  = $stats.ItemCount
  $obj.LastLogonTime  = $stats.LastLogonTime
  $Obj.StorageLimitStatus = $stats.StorageLimitStatus
  if( $stats.TotalItemSize )
  {
 $obj.SizeInKB = $stats.TotalItemSize.Value.ToKB()
  }
  else
  {
 $obj.SizeInKB = 0
  }
  if( $stats.TotalDeletedItemSize )
  {
 $obj.SizeInKBDeleted =
$stats.TotalDeletedItemSize.Value.ToKB()
  }
  else
  {
 $obj.SizeInKBDeleted = 0
  }
   }
   $stats = $null

   $obj
   $obj = $null
}

$mailboxes = $null
-end mailbox-stats.ps1

So I've gotten my earlier F5 related issues ironed out and things are going
much better. I've been going through the ExRCA to verify things and have one
lingering issue.

The ActiveSync Autodiscover test fails with the following error:
ExRCA is attempting to retrieve an XML Autodiscover response from URL
https://e2k10cas.harrison.edu/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml for user
ds.t...@harrison.edumailto:ds.t...@harrison.edu.
ExRCA failed to obtain an Autodiscover XML response.
None of the expected XML elements were found in the XML response

If I do the Exchange ActiveSync test and tell it to use e2k10cas.harrison.edu
as the ActiveSync server it passes. The Outlook Autodiscover test succeeds for
the same user.

The ExternalURL for all three virtual directories have the same hostname;
e2k10cas.harrison.edu

I'm sure it's something dumb, but I don't have an ActiveSync device to test
with. And the WM 6.5 emulator is giving me grief.

Then I'd do as JB suggested and delete the account (don't save any data if it
asks) and reactivate it. If nothing else it may narrow down the possibilities.
