Global Calendar / Private Calendar
Hi guys - Got a question here that doesn't seem to have an easy answer - at least to me. We're a school, running Exchange 2007 with Outlook. Employees use the Outlook calendar for their business meetings/etc. Each summer, we create a csv file of all the then school events/meetings/etc. Each employee is free to then import this into their personal calendar if they want. Most school admins do. The school calendar is also available to view in the Public Folders. Some school admin sync their smart phones/blackberrys as well, to have the information available wherever they are. Now, a couple months down the road - meeting dates/times change. Is there a way reflect those changes on everyone's calendar automatically? Thinking outside of the box, is there a completely different way that we could do this? I thought of a calendar in sharepoint, but I don't know enough to know that it would work... Google Calendar allows multiple calendars with sharing and can merge the calendars to look like one calendar - but not sure I want to go there yet. Any thoughts, suggestions? Global Update Personal Calendars?
We're a school. For the last 9 years, we have had a shared school calendar in public folders showing all the events and at the beginning of every school year, we have a csv file of all school events for employees to import into their Outlook calendar - if they want. Now I'm being asked if there's a way to make meeting changes on everyone's calendar that has that meeting on their calendar. Short of a person designated to invite all employees to every meeting - I don't know of a way to do what they would like. Thinking outside of the box - is this something that SharePoint would be good for or is there an entirely different/better way to do what they would like? Not all employees import the calendar. Not all of the events are applicable to all employees. Those that do import, realize they have a lot to cleanup/delete afterwards. Parsing error in HTML?
Anyone know why we receive a bunch of emails like this from time to time? I assume it's a coding issue, but that doesn't satisfy users who want to know more. The footer (Epstein school is a ...) is inserted by Exchange 2007 on all emails automatically. Resetting PF Permissions
Just updated to Exchange 2k7 on W2k8 and the PF folders we've dragged over came with their old permission settings and new permissions aren't being inherited. Is there a way to reset the permissions on the whole PF store to remove all permissions and add one for management and turn on inheritance? I looked at PFDavAdmin - but it looks like there's a whole slew of stuff to install and configure on Win 2k8 before I can use it. Any cmdlets? Message Recalls
When you recall a message to an internal client, doesn't it sorta automatically get deleted from their inboxes? Or am I imagining it? Having an issue where the offending email and the recall message are just sitting in the inbox - unread - untouched. I found the following but, seem to recall it working differently. Anyways - Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 SP1. As you probably know, Outlook 2003 offers a mail recall feature (assuming that it is configured as an Exchange client). However, I think this feature gives a false sense of security because it has limitations. Go into the Sent Items container and select the message and then choose the Recall This Message command from the message's Action menu. Exchange will then give you the choice of either deleting the message or replacing it with a different message. This sounds like exactly what the doctor ordered, but there are some serious limitations in recalling messages. For one thing, you can only recall messages that were sent to Exchange recipients. Messages sent to SMTP mailboxes can't be recalled because they do not exist in the Exchange Information Store. Second, you can't recall a message that has already been read. Third, and this is the biggie, the recalled message is not actually removed from the user's inbox. Instead, a second message is sent to the recipient with the word RECALL appended to the subject line. If the recipient opens the recall message, then the offending message will be deleted and a confirmation will be sent to the person who performed the recall. On the other hand, if the recipient opens the original message rather than the recall message, they will see the actual message that was sent by mistake." We have 300 students that we've setup with google based webmail using one of our domain names. The students have individual logins into our windows domain. OT: BES & Exchange 2007
Doing my first BES Express install and ran into a common snag I haven't found a working answer to yet. I got BES Express 4.1.4 installed on a separate box from our Exchange 2007 server. However, when I get to the 2nd part - step 3 - I get a blank list. So I redo step 2 (the send as/receive as/admin info store). I get: Appropriate ACE is already present on object "CN=EPS-EXCHANGE,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=epstei natlanta,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=epsteinatlanta,DC=org" for account "EPSTEINATLANTA\BESAdmin". Distro List Usage?
Some of our parents are complaining that we're sending too many emails to them, so I've been asked if there's a way to determine how many emails have been sent previously and/or is there a way to monitor for a week or so now? Short of the message logs, I haven't a clue. We send to the parents via BCC, so the logs don't show the group (as it explodes into the members) and short of knowing the subject of each email sent (which would give you the numbers right there), I don't see a way to provide the requested info. ie a typical distro group is #ALL 5th Grade Is there another way to see how many emails went out via a specific group? Upgrade to 2010 first?
Nearly every summer we rebuild our domain from scratch, including Exchange. This year, we will be upgrading several things including Win2k8 R2 and E2k10 server. Typically when we do this, we exmerge the existing store - in this case a E2k7 - to PST files, which are then exmerged into the new store. We currently have many users with mailboxes near or over 2gigs. I have had issues previously trying to import large PST files and am hoping to avoid them if possible. I believe E2k10 has brought back the ease of export/import PST files and was wondering if it would make sense to upgrade the E2k7 server to 2010 and then export the PST files - Wipe the equipment clean and reinstall 2010, importing those PST files? Any thoughts or suggestions? Anthony Shields Systems Administrator The Epstein School (404) 250-5659 The Epstein School is a proud beneficiary of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.
RE: Upgrade to 2010 first?
It's what we do in the school to maintain and improve our technology. We rebuild, recreate and improve on what we had, deploy new hardware/software, improve infrastructure. Instead of tacking things on down the road-during the year, we rebuild -incorporating all of those things during the summer. We repurpose servers. What once was high volume, no longer needs the super server. What once was a physical server, is now a virtual server. Unlike corporate world, we attempt to leave our stuff untouched during the school year. For the summer break, we get to start fresh when downtime is near irrelevant. The article does ring some truth and we are moving away from redoing the servers every year - as we didn't do them last year, because we knew R2 and E2k10 would be out this year - along with Office 2k10. All of which we're upgrading to in July. Hopefully after this, I can go for a few years without redoing. Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2007 Public folders showing Webpages
Have strange problem with public folders. We have a few folders created where there homepage is a webpage form. As a user with outlook 2k7, I see the webpage and can submit the form. When I review the properties, I see that the homepage is checked and it has the valid address. As the same user with Outlook 2010, I get the item listing view - not the designated homepage. When I review the properties, I see that the homepage is not checked - and as owner - I'm not able to check it and enter the address. Any suggestions? Am I missing something? OT: Ultra320 running under Windows 2008 R2?
Is anyone using a ultra320 SCSI card that is supported in Windows 2008 R2? We have a Powervault 220 that we want to keep in operation, while updating our servers to R2. Is it hopeless? The Epstein School is a proud beneficiary of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.

Outlook 2010
Hi guys, I know that running Outlook 2007 standalone, you don't have the word editor options (http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/standalone.htm) and thus the same for Outlook 2010. What if you have the full Office 2007 installed and replace Outlook 2007 with Outlook 2010 version? Will you regain the autocorrect features or will Outlook 2010 not recognize Word 2007 for spelling/grammar? Does it matter which version of 2010 I use? ie Outlook 2010 or the Office 2010 suite and install only Outlook 2010, not upgrading Office 2007 programs)? I know, why can't we just upgrade to 2010 and be done with it? Politics. Thanks 3rd time is the charm in getting a rejected post.
