I would make a bet that one of them is actually not a binary XLS file,
but an XML or XHTML file. Open them up in your favorite editor and see.

I thought I'd written a blog post about that at one point, but can't
find it.

Exchange 2003 SP2 Outlook Web Access. I have an e-mail with two .XLS
attachments where one opens directly and one has to be saved to disk
first. .XLS is not in the Level1FileTypes or Level2FileTypes registry
key on the OWA server.

Why the difference in behavior? It seems like it could be because of
the Level1MIMETypes Level2MIMETypes registry keys. Can different
attachments have different MIME types and how can I tell?

Thanks.

2010-01-22 Thread Simon Butler
Server needs patching.
There was an update for OWA because Microsoft lost a patent case.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829

Run the SBS Best Practises tool against the system - it will flag that missing
update and others.
There is a link to the SBS Best Practises tool on my Exchange resources site:

Subject: Outlook Web Access works in Basic mode but not Premium mode for typing
text in message body

HI folks. Happy Friday!

Having an issue where you run Microsoft Outlook Web Access and if you choose
basic mode, you can create and type body text into a new message.
However, if you choose Premium mode, you can put in To:, CC:, Subject, etc. but
the frame where you would type your message body is not accessible - the web
frame has the X in the corner and you can't type anything.
Anyone seen this or know about it?

Server is SBS 2003 (not R2)
Clients can be XP Pro, VIsta, or Win 7.

Thanks

RE: Outlook Web Access and SSL

2002-05-21 Thread John Allhiser

1)Marketing techniques
Their bulk mail campaign warning people that their domain name
registration is about to expire, and if they would just follow these directions
Verisign will take care of the renewal. The catch is the domain wasn't
originally registered with Verisign. It reminded me too much of the long
distance wars of a few years ago.

2)Call center support
This was a problem in the past, but I think they have updated their tech
database. We created the problem by moving a server to a different domain and
upgrading to 2K. During the move, the current cert expired. It was a situation
where the cert (not the request) had to be manually created. Second tier
support did this without a hitch. The struggle was getting past the call
support to get this done. It wasn't in their script so to speak. I guess that
is somewhat typical of most helpdesks.

Not really any serious bitch about them, but they do remind me of the Borg. :)

Yea I did.
We love DirectNIC for managing domains. We have about 100 and they have
a web GUI that allows me to make global changes at the click of a
button. They are fast, good and inexpensive. As for SSL. I got the cert
in about 3 days.

RE: Outlook Web Access Sent Items

2002-03-14 Thread Siegfried Weber

Here's the deal:

OWA (5.5 definitely and IMHO 2000 also) can use the views created with
Outlook under a particular special circumstance. That is:

If you create a new view with Outlook as This folder visible to
everyone and have the setting Automatically generate Microsoft
Exchange views on the folder properties enabled (default) the view will
be, maybe with some delay, available in OWA.

My guess is now that those of your clients who see the Sent Items view
have modified their own Sent Items view with Outlook (maybe only
changed the column size). Why would this cause OWA to show such a view?

The point is that the Sent Items view shown in Outlook actually isn't
a built-in Outlook view. It is a view *created* by Outlook on your Sent
Items folder. This Sent Items view is actually a view of the type
This folder visible to everyone and you can see that it if you look at
the folder Properties|Administration tab and open the dropdown list.
You'll see Sent Items listed there. This dropdown only lists view of
the type This folder visible to everyone.

Makes sense?

Siegfried /

implementing Outlook Web Access?
We are trying to implement OWA, but we keep getting an error message
that
says

Setup has detected that you are not running a set of Windows NT related
fixes required for Outlook Web
Access.

The only thing that I could find in TechNet referred to NT 4.0 and said
the
cause of the problem is that
you don't have service pack 3 or later installed. OWA must be thinking
that
the SP2 we are running
is applying to an NT 4.0 system, when in fact, it is applying to a
Windows
2000 system. Has
anybody seen this before and been able to work around it?

Thanks!

What Service Pack do you have on Exch?

I found the above article that describes the problem we are having exactly.
We are on SP4 and I wanted to ask if anyone here has found any workaround
for this?

Maybe a way to tell the Exchange server to map .msg to .txt and have the
message open on the client side? (just an idea).

Any input is appreciated...

Thank you,

Heidi

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The Exchange Server is on SP4, and
the NT side is on SP6a. The MSKB article only lists up to SP3 for Exchange
so I was hoping there was something new that could be done under SP4 for
Exchange...

2001-11-14 Thread Tom.Gray

We are also looking for that workaround. I've been told
that OWA 2000 will handle it, but haven't seen the proof.
Microsoft has basically said that would be a new feature, and
we are not adding features to 5.5

Let me know if you can find something that works around this!

You cannot simply map this file because it is a MAPI compound format.

This feature has been added to Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access.

Hi All

I am currently trying to setup an area for our intranet where people can
view one persons calendar(our trainer) and see when he is busy/free. I
would like them to be able to book time against the calendar. Do anyone
know if this is possible utilising Outlook Web Access? We are currently
running Outlook 98 using Exchange Server 5.5 SP4.

Please Help.

As
long as you have good RPC connectivity between all exchange servers that your
OWA server needs access to, then a single OWA server can serve all exchange
servers within an organisation.
