Konqueror will use the fonts specified in the web page or its associated style sheet (CSS). You will need to find a solution that overrides this. Maybe you could set up your own style sheet, or possible use the accessability stylesheet, which allows you to set base font sizes, etc. Look in kcontrol-Web Browsing-Style Sheets. I guess there are other solutions, like aliasing bad looking fonts for good looking ones in xftconfig or else where. Nick. So, I think that people who have to shutdown, reboot and reset a lot (desktop users) should refrain from using reiserfs and just stick to ext2fs. I have also had problems with Reiserfs, i had random missing files as you said below, and also kept getting messages in the console re 'seek error on hda' or something similar. [expert] X over SSH.
Hi guys and gals,, After always using a console over SSH for years now, I was wondering if its possible to use X over SSH... I know it is, and I have some unusual circumstances.. I use windows 2000 pro on my laptop,, (long story, but linux really doesn't like it much...) anyway, I use Zoc client for ssh and it uses linux emulation, so if you run a console gui (like mc) it looks exactly the same as on the box itself) So I am wondering if its possible to have X running in a ZOC Window. or is there some other windows package that I can use to do this?? it would just be handy to be able to do that... another question I have with regard to that though, would I have to open port 6000 on the firewall or doesn't it matter since it would be tunneled through SSH,,, (thats my theory anyway.) I guess its not really necessary to have remote x,, since I use the console for mostly everything anyway,, but it would still be sorta handy occasionally Has anyone done anything like that before regards Frank

Hi, I just installed LM 8.0 on my Celeron 500 w/192 megs of ram and am having no problems at all. The system is rock stable. I do, however, want to add a web interface to my Postfix server. I have used NeoMail in the past with Sendmail but I cant get it to work right with postfix. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Neomail to work or does anyone have another suggestion for a web interface that is easy to set up with Postfix. [expert] Problems upgrading XFree86
Hi, I updated XFree86 to 4.1 from cooker, (as well as Mesa, Glide_V3-DRI-cvs-3mdk, and the SDL), however, I still do not get direct rendering. When I run dri games I get indirect rendering. Is there something I missed? Ok this is getting too much now let me ask you a SERIOUS question . Who got MandrakeUpdate working constantly ??? I didnt! Not in Mandrake8 and not in SNF either since MandrakeUpdate is one of my favoured features of MDK i m a little upset about this i use Mandrake over 1 year now i started with 7.1 then i used 7.2 for a very long time now its MDK8 and SNF as firewall. In version 7.1 and 7.2 i never had any problems but on MDK8 i got it to work maybe 5% of all times i tryed . Mostly it doesnt show any updates at all sometimes im surprised it works suddenly and anothertime after updating some packages i see that the old versions stay and i suddenly have old and new versions listed when i uninstall the old version the new one dissappears too Do i see double or what ??? Well SNF shows me empty list ALWAYS . note : It doesnt matter wich mirror i use sometimes it works sometimes not and SNF never , btw. no the servers are NOT busy! If someone has any suggestions how to fix this tell me pls.

I can't seem to find it in the passwd man page and I know this is possible (at least in HP-UX), but I've previously been able to set a one-time password for new users (or if they'd forgotten their passwd) where upon logging in, they'd be prompted to create a new password. That's kind of a thick sentence, but in other words, say user 'foo' needed to get her passwd reset. As the sys admin, I do a one-time passwd change for the 'foo' user to 'bar'. Upon logging back in and entering her new 'bar' password, the 'foo' user is now prompted to change her password. She cannot go further until she enters a new valid password the system likes. Does this make sense? Anyway, I'd really appreciate any info on this because I know it's possible (at least in HP-UX so I'm presuming it's possible in linux), but for the life of me, I can't find out how. [expert] LM8.0 rpmdrake behaviour
Hi, everyone. I am just wondering about something that is going on with rpmdrake. My boss just came by asking about the effect the fetchmail update might have on a problem that we have with kmail. (email with attachments get lost in the aether when sent by kmail, but work fine when sent with mutt.) Anyway, I told him that I didn't think fetchmail was installed since when I did the updates this morning (fetchmail and xinetd) only xinetd came up to update. Just to be sure, I did a 'rpm -q fetchmail' and got fetchmail-5.7.4-5mdk as a result. I was sure I did not see this this morning, but maybe the server wasn't updated when I got to it, so I started rpmdrake (as root) and hit reload lists. Nothing new came up. So I switched over to the install side and looked for fetchmail there. Listed as installed was: fetchmail5.7.4-5.1mdk fetchmail5.7.4-5mdk fetchmail-daemon 5.7.4-5mdk fetchmail-daemon 5.7.4-5mdk fetchmailconf 5.7.4-5.1mdk fetchmailconf 5.7.4-5mdk So I have the rpm command telling me one thing, rpmdrake telling me two things, and I am still sure that I did not apply the fetchmail update this morning. That's really interesting -- what version of Mandrake are you running? I've got 8.0 here on a test box and when I issue this command, set the maximum password age to zero, and log in as that user, it simply gives me a warning saying that my password's going to expire in 0 days. When I set the '-W' flag to zero, it logs me in simply with no warning (as if nothing was ever done). Ok, it's my experience, but I had problems with fonts until in /etc/X11/fs/config I changed the line: /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1, to this: /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1:unscaled, (And I don't have installed abisuite). I fisrt upgrade to 4.1.0; when installing it asked perl (strict) required. thought it should be fine without it I use nodeps ; it goes well no problem. I am using /dev/scd0. My understanding of loadable modules is that when I try to mount the CD drive via /dev/scd0, the kernel should detect that the driver is missing and, via kmod, autoload sr_mod. That doesn't happen, however - so I need to manually load the module which I do via /etc/modules so it is loaded at system startup. That doesn't seem to be the desired way to do things, however - because then what is the point of kmod if you have to specify everything you want loaded in a startup script anyway? [expert] kde 2.2 beta killed kdm and sound
I upgraded from kde 2.2 alpha to the latest beta from cooker. All works fine, and kde looks great but on both my laptop and desktop systems, kdm has been killed. It wont run and doesn't start up after bootup. I am still looking for error messages to indicate why but so far I haven't found any. The second thing killed on both my systems is sound. My laptop had sound working fine with kde 2.2 alpha, using alsa for the essolo1 builtin. My desktop is an AOpen AK72 athlon mobo with a via686a AC97 sound unit built in. It too was working prior to upgrading to the beta. I also upgraded arts with both systems. In both cases, I get a message that /dev/dsp couldn't be initialized (wrong argument). Does kde 2.2 beta completely change the way it does sound? Did the latest arts completely change? I got no unresolved dependencies when I installed everything yet kdm and sound are toast. praedor

I have installed AbiWord, as I need a word processor which can read MS Word files - but the fonts are so ugly I can hardly read them. But it has not changed font rendering in other apps - those which were good are still good, and those which were lousy (as in Konqueror) are still unreadable. I made the change as above, but I cannot see any difference anywhere. Bob Y
