[expert] Multisession CD Burning / Writing
OS: LM8.0 & LM7.2 Has anyone had any luck burning multisession discs? I can successfully burn them (at least Gcombust & Gtoaster says so), but I can only "see" the first session and none of the added ones when I mount the disc in the burner or my other CD reader. Sevatio
Re: [expert] Multisession CD Burning / Writing

RE: [expert] rpm errors
The question is what caused this? RPM or grep? Try RPM -qa by itself... -JMS -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Pablo Gonzalez Sent: Sunday, August 05, 2001 10:34 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [expert] rpm errors Hi, When I query the rpm database or try to install some package I get this error: (Mandrake 8.0) - $ rpm -qa | grep gimp libgimp1.2_1-1.2.1-5mdk memory alloc (3111982304 bytes) returned NULL. $ - any ideas? I don't want to re-install.. thanks.
RE: [expert] CD Writing and the Via 686b southbridge
Actually on my machine, I have 3 hard drives and a CD-RW. Since I have all 3 drives using UDMA, I have to disable DMA on the CD-RW to get it to burn properly. With DMA enabled I get all sorts of problems burning CD's. With PIO it works fine... -JMS -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2001 11:42 AM To: Ron Johnson; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] CD Writing and the Via 686b southbridge Why would using PIO transfers make it impossible to burn CD's? A little while back I used to burn CD's on an old Pentium 133MHz only capable of PIO mode 4 on all drives including the burner and it still did 8x burning without buffer under runs. The only time that I got buffer under runs was when I did something that caused heavy disk access for more than a couple of seconds (like loading netscape). Sure UDMA is better, but is it essential? (I have never had a buffer under run on my current Linux box using UDMA even when the system is being hammered by several processes.) This is what happens: (Same output) - [root@localhost]# rpm --rebuilddb memory alloc (3111982304 bytes) returned NULL. [root@localhost]# - Thanks anyway.
Re: [expert] ssh version mismatch
Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, by the time I got it, I had already compiled the latest versin of openssh from cooker and installed it. It has done the trick for me, so I am happy anyway. In 7.1, when I do: rpm -q cdrecord* output is: package cdrecord* is not installed But when I do: rpm -qa | grep cdrecord output is: cdrecord-1.8.1-2mdk cdrecord-cdda2wav-1.8.1-2mdk What's wrong with the first syntax? Are you using the "stock" RPM included with 8.0? -JMS -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Felix Miata Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2001 8:22 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] rpm errors Jose M. [expert] Update to 8.0 broke MP3 players
Hello, I recently updates my 8.0 off the Mandrake site. This included, I believe, an update to the artsd program. After the update, sound still works and I can play audio CDs, but xmms won't play anything, while noatun just crashes. I've got arts-2.1.2-4.mdk, alsas-2.2.17_0.5.9c-21mdk and kdemultimedia-2.1.1-5mdk installed. The sound card is a Soundblaster Live. Does anyone have any ideas why I can't play .MP3s? Dan
Re: [expert] rpm errors
>In 7.1, when I do: > > rpm -q cdrecord* > >output is: > > package cdrecord* is not installed What this does, is take 'cdrecord*' as the argument to the query for rpm. Therefore, it looks in the rpm database to find that, in fact, the package 'cdrecord*' isn't installed. > >But when I do: > > rpm -qa | grep cdrecord > >output is: > > cdrecord-1.8.1-2mdk > cdrecord-cdda2wav-1.8.1-2mdk This, in fact, is a query of all packages, which is being searched for all instances of cdrecord. Hence the multi-line output. >What's wrong with the first syntax? The syntax to check if a single package is installed, is rpm -q . Therefore, rpm did a query looking for a single package named 'cdrecord*' and did not find it. The only way, in my experience, to locate multiple packages with a specific set of characters in them is the rpm -qa | grep format. Do a man rpm, and it will explain most of this--or for that matter, take a look at the rpm HowTO on linuxdoc.org. >What is the cdda2wav package? If I remember correctly, it has something to do with converting songs in cd audio format (cdda) to wavs (not 100% sure, since I don't have it installed). [expert] laptop installation problems
Hey guys, I've had a problem for a while now that is driving me crazy. I've got a Gateway Laptop, a 5300. It's a PIII-600, 192MB RAM and has a DVD drive. It also refuses to install mandrake! The last release it will install is 8.0r3. The final 8.0 release won't install and neither will the latest mandrake frequency. The installation procedure gets up to the "Pick language" bit and then just locks up. Everything stops - I have to pull the battery out to restart the machine. A text/expert install does practically the same thing. What is happening here? Can someone help me out - give me an idea of what's going on? If I install 8.0r3 and then upgrade it screws up a bunch of stuff and doesn't reconfigure the kernel properly, leaving me without proper networking and lots of other stuff. All suggestions welcome! Regards, Angus

Yeah me!!! 24.00 hours is not natural for every body, it is esasy to change, make left click on the clock, in the menu there choose date and time, in the menu on the screen choose the subwindow called Time&dates in the dialog Box Time format change %H:%M:%S by %I:%M:%S and Thats all folks!
