Both Matrox and ATI and offer dual head cards.

I have a couple of ATI cards, none, are dual head, and I any quite happy
with them.
But I also have a GeForce2 and 3 and have not encountered the problem
you had.

As far as a dual head, especially if you do not care about 3d, I think
Matrox has the better track record.

Hi Charles,

The 32mb nvidia card was on loan to see if it was worth upgrading to a new
video card. I've got my old S3 4mb 3d card back in and all is working fine
again.
I used midnight commander to look inside the rpm's to see what libraries were
installed. Manually removed the .18 libraries and links and reinstalled .16.

Any opinions on a good video card that doesn't use the nvidia chipset, dual
head and tvout would be nice if cheep enough.
I'm not interested in playing gamed on it.

Tanks
Gary.

The video card has nothing to do with the problem.

/usr/lib/libqavm-0.7.so.0 is provided by libavifile0.7-0.7.18.
So you still have it installed instead of -16.

All the 'new' pkgs must be removed before the others will work.

Do: urpmi -e libavifile
That should remove it and all pkgs which depend upon it.
Do the same for libfontconfig/fontconfig if you still have the Cooker
version of it installed.
Then, if you have added a 9.0 Contrib to your sources do:
urpmi avifile-player
This should install the player and the needed depends.

If you receive errors when uninstalling/installing copy/paste the error
to next post.

I did a rpm -i *fontconfig* to install the packages and that worked fine.
The aviplayer would not run.
Now I carnt remove these packages.
Reinstalling the old packages gives the following when trying to run aviplay.
[root@sandy avifile-mdk9]# aviplay
aviplay: relocation error: /usr/lib/libqavm-0.7.so.0: undefined symbol:
static_QUType_varptr
Any ideas on how to fix this?
I think it was a bad idea getting a nvidia card as all worked fine before
then.

Thanks
Gary.

Hi Charles

was trying to do the right thing and download off a local mirror. I use
planetmirror as it is fast for us here in Australia, well when there's no
major Linux release :)
There is no contrib in Mdk9. There is a devel and under that there are cooker
and contrib directories.
All the avifile parts loaded ok but failed to run.
Will look around for another local mirror that has Mdk9 contrib.

Thanks
Gary.

The problem he is having is because he is trying to install the
Cooker-Contrib version of avifile-player instead of the 9.0-Contrib
version.

Some Cooker-Contrib rpms can be installed and run on 9.0 without
problem, others will cause problems because they were built against
different libs/depends than are available in 9.0.

When you wish to make use of a Cooker-Contrib rpm on a released system
then the best approach is to dl .src.rpm and rebuild it for your current
running system.

Alternately the 9.0 src.rpm/spec can be dled and edited to use an
also dled avifile-player-0.7.18.tar.gz/bz2 and a 9.0 version of
avifile-player-0.7.18 rpm will be created.

This can happen with rpm (dependency hell). Make sure your urpm sources
are correctly set up and do a "urpmi avifile-player" and let it sort it
all out for you.

Alternatively you can install all 3 packages at once "rpm -i pkg1 pkg2
pkg3"

[expert] Avifile player

2002-11-11 Thread Gary
Hi all,

I just changed the video card to a nVidia NV11 (gforce 2 mx) 32mb and trying
to install avifile.
Could anyone who has installed avifile with this card let me know what files
you installed on Mdk9.

[root@sandy avifile-cooker]# rpm -i avifile-player-0.7.18-1mdk.i586.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libfontconfig.so.1 is needed by avifile-player-0.7.18-1mdk
[root@sandy avifile-cooker]# rpm -i libfontconfig1-2.0-4mdk.i586.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
fontconfig >= 2.0 is needed by libfontconfig1-2.0-4mdk
[root@sandy avifile-cooker]# rpm -i fontconfig-2.0-4mdk.i586.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libfontconfig.so.1 is needed by fontconfig-2.0-4mdk

Now am I or it confused??

Gary.
