another despair - prayer for Rikki - ARF/FIP?
Hi, please pray for my most gentle kitty, Rikki - Rikki was abandoned by someone who lived at an apartment where I was renting several years ago,, they left him behind.. he was living under the bush until I decided to bring him home - he somehow was tested incorrectly as FIV a few years ago, but it turned out false positive and he has been such a sweet and kind addition to my family - A several months ago, I noticed that he started losing weight, and did a couple of blood work and they always come back pretty normal.. most of my kitties have high globulin - so FIP is never completely ignored.. but I have had lots of corona virus cats for the past 7 years or so.. so I had stopped worrying about FIP - until a few months ago, when I started losing my babies one after the other to FIP - My vet thinks that ARF is a result of FIP - and he maybe losing sight gradually (not to due to BP -as it's normal) - it also happens with FIP - He has been on IV all day today and I am bringing back tomorrow day time to get some more --- I just feel so helpless - I am so devastated and cannot even cry - Everyone please pray that a miracle will happen and my Rikki will feel better - he does not deserve this... Re: SOS - you are not going to believe this - now my little Olive has FIP (?)
Hideyo, I am so sorry to hear about Olive. This is not your fault. With as many cats as you deal with, and the fact that you take in ferals and strays who are not healthy to begin with.. These things cause your losses. My oldest cat ever was only 13 or 14. My cats have various health problems. I think it's because they are strays who had no care themselves, or their mothers. These things take their toll. Stop blaming yourself. You are not responsible for a cat coming down with fip. No way! t Hideyo Yamamoto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hi, everyone I just cremated my little Dharma this morning --- before I had a chance to sit down and think of all the memories of my little special Dharma ---and before I had a chance to cry my little feral kitty, Olive now has FIP... and I just found it out..and I am just devasted all over again. Olive is my feral kitty who is now about a year old and who came from the same colony as Dharma and Naomi. Since she is a feral kitty, I really did not know how sick she was and it's my fault not paying attention to her more..she had a seizure tonght -- and I held her and noticed that she had lost lots of weight and very dehydrated.. and she must be very weak as she let me hold her.. I gave her 250 ml of subQ fluid as she was extremely dehydrated and hot -- and I ran to the emergency clinic after that..and asked them to run a blood work---I was so praying that it's not FIP -- then, I waited and finally talk to the doctor regarding blood work and it was very similar to Peter's blood work --the doctor did not know exactly what it was-- she said either cancer or FIP...her gloublin is elevated and alubmin is decreased, her total bilrbrin is elevated.. and mos of the liver (ALT and AST) were very elevated. .she was not anemic (PCV=31) -- she thought I really coudln't treat her since she was feral and suggest euthanaisa.. but I said no.. I want to bring her home and try everything I can.. she just was walking around and eating until earlier today...so I brought her home as I knew she would be better off coming home as there wasnt' anything they could do for her specifically. I held her for a long time.. she is just very sweet.. I did not know ir I coule syringe feed her,, but she let me and she ate very well.. she is just very sweet little gir.. she is black/white taxido girl... sthe bad new is since then, she had three more seizures.. I really did not want to give her valium as she already has liver issue.. but I coudln't let her keep having a seizure so I gave a little bit of valium to see if it will help not to have seizure anymore.. Everyone.. I am now convinced that I am the one who is producing this disease fo rmy kitties -- I know that FIP is stress induced disease.. and all of the kitties who have had FIP were not corona virus posivite kitties and the become exposed due to all my others who have been.. and all of the kitties who have had FIP have been here less than year.. and my envrinment has caused them to die -- Dr. Ishidaalso mentioned something similar when I first explained how many kitties I have had FIP -- as much as he admired what I do. .he thought that I was causing FIP among my cats.. and I have to agree -- it's too much of price to pay and they did not deserve to die.. I had a good intension but it was not good enough and I am very responsible of all the deaths so I really am not any kind of hero.. if I did not bring them home,, they would not have gotten FIP ...I don't regret that the fact thatI had an opportunity to have met them.. but had no right to bring my house which is considered to be a very high risk for FIP .. they did not ask for that... Everyone, please pray and send a good positive healinng energy to my little Olive.. I started on FOI tonight and am hoping that it will make her feel better - again I have not given up regardlesss of whatever the disease might be.. I still belive in power of intensions and miracle if that's what it takes.. I juar have to be calm and sending her a good thought.. again thank you very much for all your support and I am sorry for asking for more prayers before I had a chance to thank you for all your kind words you have sent to me and dharma.. Re: Michelle: Lucy
I have been wary about it, but my vet assured me that if it is safe IV it will be safe sub-q, only potentially not as effective. Humans do not take things sub-q very well-- we do not have the same kind of skin or the same space between our skin and under-layers. Several others on this list have given I-R sub-q without any bad reaction at all, and I assume without pain since they said it works fine. Lucy gets really stressed about going to the vet for the IV shots (she hates the car), which is why I asked the vet about giving them sub-q. Michelle In a message dated 11/16/2006 6:30:24 P.M. I'd recheck that with the manufacturer before giving it Sub-Q, it seems I recall it being said it is NOT meant to be given sub-q, and MUST be IV. I'd hate for her to have her skin start to slough off or something else horrible due to using I-R off label!!! http://www.neogen.com/immunoregulin.htm (the people who make it) http://www.pharmcast.com/Patents100/Yr2004/April2004/042704/6726913%20_Acnes042704.htm (more about the active ingredient, and specifically points out that administering it sub-q is PAINFUL, and if done so, should probably be mixed with lidocaine for use in HUMANS) And on another not so cheery note IF you do choose to use it OFF LABEL administered via Sub-Q, then you will have NO recourse if your cat is hurt or killed due to a bad reaction. You can't report reactions if you're not following the manufacturer's instructions for usage! Just be safe follow the label and give it IV only. Is it REALLY worth the RISK? Re: need prayers
Are you SURE that there are no fleas in the house? Fleas are the most common cause of anemia. Did you test them for Hemobartonella (several times, several different cats)? What brand of food do you feed (what's the first ingredient)? Hemobartonella: How is Diagnosis Confirmed? Confirmation of diagnosis has been problematic since the discovery of the organism. Because it lacks a cell wall, Mycoplasma haemophilus cannot be cultured, which means one cannot simply culture a blood sample and isolate the organism the way one might isolate the organism causing something like a urinary tract infection. Most reference labs scan all feline blood samples under the microscope looking for the characteristic appearance of infected red blood cells (see graphic at the top of the page). Unfortunately, the number of organisms cycles in a matter of hours such that the number of infected cells can change from 90% to 1% in a matter of 3 hours. This makes it very easy to miss infected cells, even in a grossly infected cat. Hemobartonella felis was first discovered in Africa in 1942 but it was not recognized as a mycoplasma until gene sequencing was possible recently. This has led to renaming Hemobartonella felis to Mycoplasma haemophilus, though after decades of celebrity we shall see if they new name becomes commonly used. Complicating matters further, gene sequencing has revealed a second species, previously thought to be another variant of Hemobartonella felis. This one, which is smaller, has been named Candidatus M haemominutum. This smaller mycoplasma seems to only be a problem for cats infected with the feline leukemia virus. Phaewryn I just don't know why everyone has become so anemic!!! It's driving me CRAZY - What could it be? Rikki tested all the parasites and it's negative, too. Re: Michelle: Lucy
good, thanks. The Immuno-regulin really seems to have helped her. When I took her last Thursday for it, she had just about stopped eating again from her URI and was very stuffy. About an hour or two after the shot she started eating again, and she has acted normal ever since, except for a bit of stuffiness now and then. I took her for another I-R shot on Tuesday, and since then all I have noticed is a little bit of a dripping nose a couple of times. She is energetic and eating well, though, knock on wood. I may try to follow up with sub-q for a dose or two. The vet said that anything that can be given IV won't hurt given sub-q, but just may not be as effective. (I know this is not true for chemo shots, though-- the ones that need to be given IV are deleterious if given sub-q, but maybe that is the only exception). Susan, I wish I could bring one of my kitties to my library, but I think the school district would have a heart attack...they'd probably say something about contagious diseases or allergies or whatever. I really like that - memories will warm the heart rather than break it. That time is still to come for so many of us -- my Bessie and Daisy -- it will be a while. But one of my kids here at school was talking to me about Daisy, who was one of our Library Cats - and he said something I just loved -- "Daisy will never leave my memory. She was a cool cat" And he was right - but the memory will change and some day warm my heart. Marylyn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: If you could forget they would have meant nothing to begin with. It is better to do it IV because this ensures it gets everywhere it is supposed to go. It is what the drug company says to do. But my vet said that if a drug can be given IV, then it is safe to give it sub-q or IM, just potentially not as effective. I think it is fine to combine it with interferon. Hey Tonya, I'm sorry I have been so late in answering your post. I am too darn busy right now for my own good! No, the dog does not chase the other dogs or the cats. Her ears kind of perk up when she sees the cats run by, but that's it. She's VERY docile, but does play with our other puppy, who's about a year and a half now. He's an Akita mix. We also thought our female Akita mix would not get along with her, but the three seem to get along fine surprisingly. She's just so quiet right now. All she wants to do is sleep when we let her in. She sleeps so hard, she snores. I think she went through hell before we found her, because of the way she acts. When my husband walks her though, she's great. Better than the other two troublemakers. lol. We need to take her to the vet to get her fixed, but have just not had the money. We plan on taking her in the next three weeks, or sooner if by some magical chance, a few hundred dollars drops into our laps. I can send out some pics to anyone who's interested in seeing her and maybe you guys can tell me if you think she's a pit bull. I think she looks a lot like a Staffordshire (sp?) pit. :) Wendy --- catatonya <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Don't be so sure wendy. OT: To Tonya : Re: my experience with pits.....
SOS -help My Rikki - severe ARF
Hi, everyone, please share your insight - my older boy kitty I rescued is experiencing severe ARF - I say this only because his blood work two weeks ago shows pretty normal value of kidney functions, ,but he starts losing weight and can't each as much as I thought he had FIP as I recently lost of my babies to FIP - The blood work shows very very profound RF - might be what Hannibal had at the end.. today 1-Nov normal range Crea 12.5 3 0.8-2.3 BUN 167 28 15-34 phos 17.5 4 3.0-7.0 HCT 17.3 28.2 29-45 WBC 30.6 23.8 4.2-15.5 total bulirubin 0.7 0.2 0.0 - 0.4 indirect bilirubin 0.5 0.1 0-0.3 TCO2 5 19 13-25 He is on IV right now and we started on epogen this morning as well. Also, gave doxycycline as antibiotics - I am thinking using SAMe as I heard that it's good for anemia - please share any of your insighg - what do you think it's causing this severe ARF - could it be FIP? I am trying to find other cause - Also, please pray for my Rikki that he will feel better - thank you.

Re: Update on Valley - and thank you
He has improved on the Epogen alone. My vet - who I have 100% trust in -- and I discussed a transfusion. He said he'd seen a transfusion kill a cat with a low crit -- and based on that and on Valley's overall condition even with the low crit we decided against. Re: need prayers
Dear Hideyo, I have been following your posts, and know the anguish you have felt over your kitties. I too, do rescue, and can relate. My good friend called last night. She is also into rescue. Last month she accidently exposed her cats to distemper. She lost 35. It broke all our hearts. Anyway, she was doing dishes, and heard the unmistakable meewing of newborns. One of her females during all the illness had been pregnant when brought in. She gave birth to 2. One died within hours. We are on our way to vets this AM. You kind of have to keep things in perspective. Cats in the wild live only 2 or 3 yrs. If you bring them home, and they die, at least they have had loving hands stroking them, a warm bed, medicine to ease their pain, and if necessary help in going to the bridge. Don't be too hard on yourself. You are doing great things!! I will keep you in my prayers, Dede --- Hideyo Yamamoto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi, everyone, I have a couple of kitties who are not > feeling too well > and I need you to send them positive energy and > white beam of light - > when you lose more than one kitties to FIP.. you > become so paranoid.. > when they sneeze, run fever.. you think they have > FIP - and I am so > tired of being fearful of this disease - my older > boy Rikki has lot lots > of weight and he is anemic and I am a bit freaking > out, and my ayumi has > mouth sore and can't really eat and lost lots of > weight and am not sure > whether I should do a dental for her for certain > conditions that she is > in right now.. and my new rescued boy Toni, has had > sneeze and running > fever today - and am a little bit paranoid and > worried. > > > > Please pray all of the babies are just going to be > fine. > > "When you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God" Mosiah 2:17 Sponsored Link Mortgage rates near 39yr lows. $510k for $1,698/mo.
