Re: [Felvtalk] cat attract
My 12 yr old cat recently wet the bed (and #2 on the couch twice). I got Dr. Esley's Cat Attract and all my cats love, love, love it. Meanwhile, to keep my furniture safe, I put vinyl tablecloths (cheap) over my bed and sofa during the day. I also covered my mattress and couch with waterproof mattress covers, too. The vinyl tablecloths have flannel on the back and it keeps it from slipping around. I found them at Target. Hey, I'm the queen of waterproofing. With all the cats I have had, there has always been a bed wetting problem with at least one or two of them. Instead of screaming and tearing my hair out and dumping the cat out the door, I used some of my elderly mom's disposable mattress pads for a while. She actually wasn't incontinent but she couldn't walk so needed a bed pan, so just in case...I would use the mattress pads. Then I purchased several of the washable types when one of my very old cats began thinking the bed was her litter box. You can also purchase a zippered waterproof mattress cover, then put a regular quilted mattress topper over it and just toss the topper into the washing machine if someone makes a mistake, sponge the waterproof cover with rubbing alcohol. It's a good deodorizer after it evaporates. But in the summer, if you don't want to feel you are being shrink wrapped, you can use the top removable types and either toss into the wash or toss into the garbage if they are disposable. The washable are more economical. You can even make up the bed in the morning and then put a fitted waterproof mattress topper over the whole thing to keep everything good while you are gone. If an accident happens, you just whisk the cover off and you are ready for sleeping in the bed. For the nasty drip into the mattress I would recommend an enzyme type odor eliminator. I used to use Petzyme, which you can purchase at PetsMart. It doesn't have any added scent as a cover up. Sometimes I think I prefer the odor of cat pee to those awful perfumes they dump into deodorizers. When you use the enzyme type deodorizer, you have to make sure the spot stays wet for at least 24 hours. If it dries out, by-by little beneficial bacteria and the enzyme doesn't work. [Felvtalk] Bedwetting cat solution
Went to the store that the mattress came from. They sold me a waterproof cover for $40. I got one for both of the beds in the house. The man says it works great for pet problems. I put the cover under the mattress pad. I hope it works. I put vinegar/water on the soiled spot and it dried quickly with the ceiling fan on high. We have a recently adopted cat and there are some battles going on in the house. I might try the feliway diffuser. Oh, also I wanted to add that my couch is covered with carpet protector that is held onto the couch with upholstery Twist Pins. On top of that are two slipcovers. That's how I have my couch protected. It's pretty comfy. Who was that on this board who said to let the cats have the house and the humans can live in the closets? ha ha ha On Mon, Nov 5, 2012 at 12:44 PM, Lee Evans moonsiste...@yahoo.com wrote: For the summer, you can get either the disposable large size pads or the adult mattress pads that are sold at medical supply shops for adults with bladder incontinence. He only has 11 days to find a home, foster, or rescue. Please feel free to crosspost. Thanks, Cindy Here's the info she sent: There is a resident population of feral cats at Tom's Cove Campground. Some of the people living there put food out. Occasionally a cat is trapped and taken to an area vet. Storm showed up after Hurricane Irene. He was trapped and taken to the vet to get shaved down because he was badly matted and infested with fleas. At the vet's it was discovered he was already neutered. His ears were not notched and he has no microchip. Storm has not shown any aggression at all. He is fed separately, but the other cats don't bother him. He is not feral. I was asked if I would take him home with me when I visited in October. I took him to the local vet to be tested and that is when it was discovered that he is FeLV+. I have a 3yo female cat who is FeLV-. There is no way I could keep him separated from my cat. While the rest of the colony will survive the winter, it is doubtful if Storm would make it through the winter outside and without a regular source of food. The campground where he is now closes at the end of November. I honestly think he would make a wonderful pet. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
Re: [Felvtalk] FeLV+ Cat - Chincoteague Island - URGENT -Transportation Available
John, I know that Tigger would want you to have your heart open to a cat in need (Storm). You have the support of a great fellowship of cat lovers. Over the past 2 years I have lost 3 cats to old age/disease and I immediately found 3 loving cats that needed a home. Nothing will replace Tigger, but every new cat brings so much joy. Good luck with all things feline. The woman who contacted me is desperate to find a place for the cat by the end of November and she's willing to cover all vetting costs herself. Transportation is also available most anywhere. The family that owned Peaches found her abandoned outside a vacant apartment. Their neighbor moved out, but left the cat. They took Peaches to the vet to discover that Peaches already was spayed. I don't know why the Vet gave her Feline Leukemia vaccinations without testing her first. They kept Peaches for almost 2 years and properly vetted her, wife had a baby and they didn't want Peaches anymore. That's how Peaches came to live here.
