Is the name of the product you use for stomatitis called Brush Away? Can you describe it and tell me where you get it? I've not been able to clear up two areas on MeMe's upper gum. I've been giving her First Born and several other immune supplements, but these two areas are difficult. Thanks Jane
Re: to Marylyn
I get it from a holistic vet, Susan Maier, in Simpsonville, KY. However you can order directly from PetzLife if you can't find it. Here is the link: http://www.petzlife.com/category/ You can work your way back and forth thru it to get additional information. They are calling it Oral Care Gel now--probably to avoid confusion with the Mr. Clean and other brush away ads. Good luck. Re: Pictures and a question ~ marylyn
No they aren't dumb. Forgive the spelling but AIHA is Autoimmune Hemophilic Anemia. Mai Mai had it and alternative vet meds helped a lot including acupuncture, homeopathy etc. The steroids that helped save/extend her life were making her miserable. This type medicine helped decrease the amount we gave her and improved the quality of her life. Additionally, to help build up her blood (country terms) I gave her a lot of liver. I cooked a lot at a time, ground it and froze it in muffin pans, pop them out, bag them and have them ready. As I've mentioned before, I am vegetarian and fixing this stuff is difficult so I make pretty large quantities at a time. It really seemed to help. Differences: This was about 10 years ago and Mai Mai was a dog, the most wonderful Portland Purebreed in the world. I don't know if there is anything here anyone can use but I am putting it on the table. Obviously she doesn't get every thing every day. A lot depends on what is going on with her and what just feels right at the time. She eats 2-3 times a day and really has surprised me with the veggies and yogurt. This girl eats better than I do. I use Brush Away on her teeth (almost daily). She is wonderfully happy and healthy and I look forward to many years with her. She has been with me over 2 years and is probably around 5 years old. She is a throw-away so no one is sure of anythingjust that she is marvelous and amazingly grateful for anything you give her. An idea if you can handle it: Start writing Monkee stories and emailing them to yourself and/or your friends so you will always have all the wonderful memories. The purrs, how Monkee got the name, how he came into your life, litter training.. all those things that tend to disappear from the mind when it is totally stressed as yours is. This may help you clear your own mind and get very close to Monkee. It will definitely help to read and re-read them when, hopefully a very long time from now, Monkee leaves this world. The specialists were very insistent on chemo. I went to my vets and we had a very long hard talk (actually several of them since they are very good at holding my hand when things turn ugly). There are several types of chemo. The one Kitty would have to have was rough to put it mildly. I think she was to be on it for 6 months. Without it she was to live about 2 months and with it maybe 6-8 months (according to the specialists). My vets and I agreed that there was no quality of life to gain and, as much as Kitty hated vets, traveling etc, a lot to lose. We opted not to even try the chemo. Kitty lived 14 months and had a high quality of life. Her lungs filled with the masses but she never seemed to be in any pain---some discomfort but not nearly what she would be in had I forced her to travel. So much

You know I had thought about the yogurt and probiotics..but just didn't do it..until last night..I have some in the refrigerator...so I looked in one of my natural books to check the dosage...opened a cap, tasted of it then mixed about 1/2 in some water and shot it in him..He took it real well...I did mention it to them, but they didn't say to much when I took him in today so when I go visit tonight, I may just take some with me and sneak it in cause he won't get any other meds at that time...I know people sprinkle it on food so I hope it is ok to use it like this..what do you think? Re: Prayers needed for Bandy -- Marylyn
That works for me. Just don't use real warm water to mix it in. It will kill the bacteria. Frankly, I don't think you can over-dose on probiotics. At least that is what my people doctors tell me and my personal vets and alternative vets say re critters. I would sneak it in or give it openly or whatever it took to get it in my cat. Frankly, there are just times I don't care what anyone thinks as long as I believe I am doing what I think is right for my pet. Good luck and keep me posted. Thanks Marylyn. Do you mean Animal Communicators? Yes, I do believe in them, although realizing some are better than others as in all things. I did not think you doubted my decision. I said that about always being glad of this decision as I have gone through so much in the past 3 yrs related to illness and death that have taught me much about who I am and what I think is right to do and how that can change so rapidly with terminal illness. If there is a chance for treatment and quality of a longer life, I will choose that if I am able to provide that for person or animal. Quality of life during treatment is so important, my dad lived one month to the day from a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, 4 different kinds in his body and he refused treatment but his family was with him that last month and I am so grateful I could be with him in his final days. I remember so many little things we shared that month that bring me joy and laughter. Yet it was also painful and still is on some levelsI miss him much of course. Hi all I'm wrapping up the letter with all your wonderful testimonials about the joys of living with and/or caring for FeLV cats to Paula Fasseas in hopes she will, as she indicated, assign one of the rooms in her new shelter to FeLV cats. Could you please also let me have your city and state to add after your name- I'll just be using first names of course (eg "Gloria, Little Rock, Arkansas"). Marylyn: OT: New journey-laying tile!!!
Thanks for all the tips Marylyn. I'm going to see if I can get my hands on some of that OdoBan. I don't have a Sam's card, but I bet I can find it somewhere else. We are going to go with grout that matches the tile, so it won't be dark or white for sure, but I will keep that in mind before all is said and done as things have a way of changing. :) Wendy __ Do You Yahoo!? Sam's will now let you in without a card but you have to pay 10% (?) more. It is worth it. I did not know that-I will definitely do that then. 10% isn't a lot. About how much is the OdoBan concentrate at Sams? And how much square footage do you think it will cover? Would you put anything else on the concrete after you use the OdoBan? Re: Marylyn: OT: New journey-laying tile!!!
About $10. for a gallon that makes 32 gallons. Given what I think you are up against I would make it make 8 gallons. I'm not sure what that would cover but bet 2 gallons will more than take care of anything you need. If you like it as much as I do, you will keep finding uses for it. And the flower odor is not overwhelming or fake. You might want to call your Sam's and make sure they are doing what they are in Louisville (letting non members in). Hi Marylyn, Prayers coming your way for Kitty. Please keep us posted on her. I am still trying to name my little new one. For now, we have been calling her Kitty since she doesn't have a name. I asked my husband what he thought about Miss Kitty, and he didn't like it much. I'm still drawing a blank on a name, even after asking Kitty what she'd like to be called. I am thinking about going through one of those pet name books. Any thoughts? If we did decided to keep her as Kitty, would you be offended? Thanks, Wendy --- Marylyn [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Ask her what she needs and wants. Kitty was very plain about it all. No chemo. No intervention. Forget it . Nope. No way. I wish she liked them. She was raised feral and isn't a very affectionate cat in the way most house cats are. But when she chooses to show love, it is the most wonderful thing. Re: Spayed twice - Marylyn
They were looking at the hormone levels. There are two tests that can be run. I don't understand the details but the one they ran on Dixie was a simple blood test. The other involves giving the cathormones and seeing what the reactionis. I would have loved to have seen my vet's face when the test results came in. He was very sure she was intact. Anyway, when he called it was "Dixie is either a male or she has been spayed." I understand an ultrasound and a very good reader can tell. I was a big believer in animal communicators before this. Now I am totally convinced. What are the odds of a cat who has been thrown away being spayed and showing up at my house? Then having enough sense to tell two friends that she absolutely did not need to go to the vet's again? My vet was against letting her come into heat if we could prevent it. He said the spaying would be less traumatic for her than coming into heat. Marylyn: Hypertension and Julie, our geriatric kitty
Hi Marylyn, Julie is 16.5 years old. She's a Maine Coon kitty. So sweet, until she has to take a pill. lol. I guess we'll both become used to it after time. Thanks for the info. I added it to the manual and will keep compounding in mind. I tasted one of the pills and it was completely tasteless, so you might want to look into getting the kind that is tasteless. I saw it on the websites of either 1-800-petmeds, drs. foster smith, or entirely pets. It was one of the last two I believe. Thanks for the info.! :) Wendy --- Marylyn [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Kitty has hyperthyroidism . Know that the medicines can be compounded and rubbed in the ear if the pills become too difficult (they are with her). Personally I prefer the pills because you know exactly what the cat is getting (except with Kitty who spits them out when I am not looking). The pills are very bitter so coating them with something may be helpful. Keep up on the bloodwork. The amount she needs can change. Once everything is stabilized you may want to consider radiation treatment for the thyroid. I would with Kitty but it would be too traumatic for her and, in her current position, I don't want to stress her any more than I have to. Pull up some articles on this condition but do not be scared. How old is your cat? Re: Marylyn: Hypertension and Julie, our geriatric kitty
I'm not sure of the cost. The figure of $1000.00 was mentioned when I was considering it for Kitty. It is a once in a life time event. Had Kitty not developed cancer I would have had it done in a heart beat. Even using the topical meds stresses her. She was feral when she moved in with my parents then was forced to move in with me. The cat has to stay at the clinic where the radiation is done for a few days but I didn't pursue it further. Good luck. If you do use it, please let me know how it turns out. I've got sleep deprivation from trying to figure out a way to bring him in at night. His lungs are still congested and his eyes, still runny. Sleeping outside in the cold cannot be good for him. He's got shelter, but he insists on sleeping on a shelf that looks into my bedroom and he's exposed to the elements. He cries and cries to come in. When I open the window, he tries to push his way past me into the bedroom. It's pitiful how much he wants to enjoy the comforts of human living. He's still hostile toward my cats, and visa versa for the most part. Two nights ago I tried to put him in a huge wire dog crate next to the bed. I had it covered, but he was so freaked out about being confined that he peed his bed twice. Nasty, nasty intact Tom, scared to death, extremely pungent urine smell permeated every thing in the room. Between crawling into the crate to try and comfort him, doing midnight laundry duty, and his fearful crying, I got absolutely no sleep. The next night he decided that he'd rather not come in and spent the night on the shelf again. I put a heating pad under a blanket and except for a pitifully crying for me to come out and join him every couple of hours, it seemed to work out okay. Last night the winds were so bad that it had him scared. Around 4am this morning I finally wrapped him in the blanket he was sleeping on and hustled him into the bathroom. More crying, more getting up to go in and comfort him. Arrgghh! I tell you I'm tired! He has an appointment to get neutered this Thursday, but I'm still concerned about his lung congestion and the anesthesia. The boy has got to get those pom poms snipped before we can proceed with acclimation! On the plus side, he's really come to trust me, (don't ask me why or how!) Marylyn, Thank you for the advice. I hadn't thought to ask Stretch what she wants, and will do that tonight. I don't know how much I will understand from her (or her me) without using a communicator, but maybe I will get lucky. She has been really good about taking the food I have fed her twice now, although this morning she wasn't as happy about it. Maybe that is a good sign though; maybe the food is making her feel better. You make a good point about treatments maybe not being what an animal wants. I have pondered this a lot after I lost Cricket. I often wonder how I would have felt had I just taken him in to be pts, which was the original plan. Instead, after someone caringly suggested that a feeding tube might help save him or at least give him a little more time, which I thought was a great idea, to have one inserted. Part of why he was going downhill so fast was that he wasn't eating. Also, I selfishly wasn't ready to let him go, and I did want him to feel better and get some food on his stomach; no one feels good when they are starving. I do and don't regret my decision to insert the feeding tube. I would probably do the same thing given the same circumstances, yet I will never forget the last time we looked at each other with him being lucid, which was through the glass of the anesthesia gas box. He had that look like don't leave me and I told him it would be ok, and it wasn't. But you know, had he come out of it and not died that night and lived longer feeling better, I would have been elated that he had gotten the feeding tube. And that could have been the sitution given a different cat or had Cricket been in a little healthier place. We can never make all the right decisions, because we don't know all the variables and can't see into the future. Living with those decisions that don't turn out the way we would have liked can be hard. Thank you for taking the time to write. I will keep everyone posted on Stretch. Re: Marylyn
Just because you chose not to take certain steps does not mean you put the animal down. Allow the cat/dog/elephant to tell you if and when she needs help leaving this world. Put aside your own feelings and sit very quietly with your friend, talk to her as though she was a person and ask her help. Ask what she wants and needs (unfortunately they may not be the same thing). Allow her to guide you. Know the difference between discomfort and true lasting pain. And allow your nephew to be a part of this. Do not exclude him because you want to save him the hurt. You will prevent him from giving and receiving true love, the love an animal gives us unconditionally. Have no regrets about Cricket. We all question ourselves but act with true love for the critter entrusted to your care and not to make things easier for yourself. I promise you, it would have been a lot easier for me to have done what the specialists wanted with Kitty but it would not have been an act of love. Luckily, I have a set of vets that understand the value of life as well as quality of life (I wish a lot of physicians understood this) and we talked about what each of us would want in the situation. Perhaps that is what you need to do, ask Stretch to help you understand what you would truly want. Maybe that is her special job on earth. My prayers are with you and I am asking my angels to help you, your nephew and your four legged friends who have been, are, and will be. - Original Message - From: wendy [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 9:52 AM Subject: Marylyn Marylyn, Thank you for the advice.
