[Finale] Windows Enterprise setup of Finale 25
The problem's solution lay in the way a server-based system works. And Finale seems to need special attention in this case. The problem was that ROAMING APPDATA is on an external drive and is reloaded to the user's account on each re-boot. The solution was to change the settings on the server and re-start. The changes will only become permanent in this matter. I must thank a help source at MM for the text settings. [Finale] Scanning, what to do now?
First, please forgive me if this topic has had an exhaustive discussion. I haven’t had the opportunity to read the postings for a little while. With that being said. . . I do a lot of transcribing of solos and ensemble pieces for my saxophone students. If the original is printed I’ll scan it and import into Finale. Most of the time that yields pretty workable results. With the introduction of Finale v25 they’ve removed scanning. What options do I have now beside entering in everything with Simple or Speedy entry? Thanks for the advice. Re: [Finale] yKey (iKey) "Move To" shortcuts no longer work in 10.11
Hi Darcy et al, Just updated SmartScroll (Mac), and it is working well. I think I abandoned it thinking that the horizontal scroll wheel would replace it, but the keyboard is far better for controlling small scrolling increments. I was mistaken about which keys SmartScroll uses to scroll horizontally. It uses Command/Option to scroll to the right, and Command/Control to scroll left. Pretty intuitive and easy. I recommend it. And, by the way, when I did have trouble in the past, the developer was always quick to respond with help. Hi Darcy, Yes, used to have occasional trouble, but it also worked a lot of the time. Haven’t used it lately, so I don’t know if it’s been updated. I have a thumb wheel on my Logitech mouse that I use for horizontal scrolling, but it is hard to control, so I will check on Smartscroll again. It had’t occurred to me to use mouse clicks in Keyboard Maestro (the app I now use for macros). Chuck > On Sep 25, 2016, at 11:42 AM, Darcy James Arguewrote: > > Hi Chuck, > > Thanks. For me, Finale playback goes silent every time I export audio (and the exported audio is fine), requiring a Finale restart. It might go back to a problem someone else was having -- that Finale's playback engine defaults to a specific setting different from my system default. Since other audio programs work fine while Finale is running, it seems to point to Finale as the culprit. In the Staff Tool, select all, go to Edit Groups and select Create Group. The options you want are there to be checked or unchecked. The reason this happened was because the staves have names. Finale will preserve groups only for unnamed staves in the parts, like the two staves of a piano part. If you name them, like SATB or your ripieno staves, Finale assumes that they aren?t meant to have brackets. One trick that occurs to me (but I?ve never tried) is deleting the staff names, creating the part, then naming the staves again once the part has been ?tricked? into preserving the groups. But it?s so easy to recreate a group compared to typing in all those staff names that I?ve never tried it. I hope this was true in 2008. I don?t have a computer that will run this version any more.
